Wasn't too aware of how Stendera may have been performing now. If he wasn't a huge player I'd probably drop him to the 21s and bring someone up to perform. Was really just playing devils advocate and always feel left with a dilemma when a player leaves on a pre-contract too - do I or don't I play them?

Don't apologize!! It was the perfect comment as it made me go back systematically over what had led me to that decision and reconsider it all!

Totally agree, comments like that are interesting, really make you think about alternatives and why you make particular decisions!

Season 6 Game 23 – Nurnberg (a)

Its not often you'll go away and dominate like this and not get the result. We are starting to see more and more of this, teams playing at home like they are the away side against us. They aren’t even that low on the table. Anyway, fair play to them, I’ve done it plenty of times. Their goal came after our central defender Puncec took a way too heavy first touch and gave the ball to Keissling 5 yards from goal. Horror error that cost us the match…

Season 6 Game 24 – Erfurt (h)

Bader and Garcia got the goals for us before Kern dragged one back for Erfurt. It should have never been this close though.

Prior to this match I had been offered and attended an interview with Bundesliga side Koln. They were sitting on spot above relegation and had the squad to stay up. They ended up being very interested and offered me the role.

View attachment 257444

After some deliberation and soul searching though I decided their plight really wasn’t any better than the situation I found myself in at Frankfurt except that here I have developed my squad now and come next season will have a good squad that I’ve built that I feel will be ready for the big time.

Season 6 Game 25 – Heidenheim (a)

Russ was drafted into the side after some injuries and suspensions meant I needed the extra center back. He showed exactly why he is now 5th choice getting himself needlessly sent off arguing with the linesman after the Heidenheim goal. From there we actually didn’t play that bad and that we were in with a shout for the entire match despite being a man down is a credit for the 10 guys who did play hard for the team. Russ was fined a weeks wage after this. We are still top but only now by the solitary point. Need to get back on a good run of form to hold our spot.

Thanks Andy. Now I feel bad because I've been silent reader on your La Hoya story also for a while now! Need to pick up my commenting game over there!!

Your welcome mate. And glad to hear you are enjoying my story too. I don't have chance to update as regularly as I'd like to though, as I've been appointed manager of a semi pro team and have a new coaching job too, so that takes priority. A real life FM though, haha. :D

Great stuff! Good luck with the new role! Maybe one day we'll see you matching wits with the likes of Jose and Wenger!!

That's pretty exciting man, I want more information :O. PMs are cool ;).

Haha, I doubt I'll get that far but hopefully in and around the conference south, depending on investment and sponsorship. Easier said than done though. I'll post an update my story tomorrow, so check it out mate.

Season 6 Game 26 – Berlin (h)

Berlin have been a bogey side for me ever since taking over at Frankfurt. I’m not sure if it is just a clash of styles or what but they always seem to play us hard and this one was no different. The game was even in the early stages and it took until the 24th minutes for Jung to give us the lead with a free kick that he managed to get up and over the wall before curling it in the top corner.

A fantastic goal for a fantastic servant to the club and this was in fact his first ever goal for Berlin. It ended up being the winner as the two side effectively cancelled each other out from then on. A decent three points.

Season 6 Game 27 – Chemnitz (a)

Its games like this that make you wonder sometimes if it is all worth it. We completely dominated a side that was supposed to be fifth in the league at their home ground with them playing like they were 15th and facing relegation…A horror error lead to their goal and a misjudged long ball found its way to Stroh-Engel and he buried the one on one chance.

Stendera had been training the house down in the lead up to this one and Druissi hadn’t taken his chance so I had actually started this one with 17yr old Sauter in the AMC role. In the 57th minute Rossiter was injured and, needing a goal, I sent Stendera on to play central midfield and it was the master and the apprentice who combined for our goal. Stendera found a clever Sauter run with an impecabbly timed through ball and Sauter, playing with a freedom afforded by youth, Cruyff turned his defender on the edge of the area and as he went to go past him the defender lifted his trailing leg into the air and brought Sauter down – penalty. Stendera held his nerve to earn us a point from the spot.

Season 6 Game 28 – Ingolstadt (h)

Another exercise in frustration as Ingolstadt this time held us out for a full ninety. Not too many teams can say they done that to us so fair play to them. I’ve done it plenty of times to others as well.

Season 6 Game 29 – Frankfurt Erlenbruch (a)

We made the short trip across town for the 2nd leg of the Frankfurt derby this season. We wanted to give the fans something to cheer for and did we ever. We were dominant here and it took everything Erlenbruch had to hold us out for as long as they did. In the end our extra quality shone through and we got the 3 points and sent our fans home happy.

Season 6 Game 30 – Bochum (h)

Huge game here with 2nd placed Bochum coming to town. In the 7th minute there didn’t appear to much danger as Iheanacho dropped deep to pick up the ball 35 yards from goal but he cleared the ball out from his feet with his first touch and then off two steps he hit a drive the swerved and dipped into the top right corner of the goal – ripping shot. It ended up being the winner but it was a goal worth winning any game. No keeper in the world would have saved that. Fair play to Bochum they came to play and pressed hard from then for an equaliser but it truth we held them out quite easily.

Season 6 Game 31 – Mainz (a)

Another derby match this time away at nearby Mainz. Mainz were really tough today and took the lead through a well-timed Schmitt effort. Kakuta ended up being our hero though with two goals in 10 minutes just before half time. When I signed him I only envisaged him being a backup but he has been an integral part of our push for the title.

Table Update

At the end of March we held a seven point lead over new 2nd placed side St Pauli. Bochum didn’t recover well after the game against us and dropped points again – have we ruined their challenge for good now? Only time will tell but we sit well placed with the magic number now being 4 wins from the last six to ensure the title.

Season 6 Game 32 – Paderborn (h)

Ahh man its games like this that make you wonder is it all worth it!! We dominated from the first whistle and took a deserved lead via a spectacular Iheanacho volley. 5 minutes of madness in the middle of the half though where we seemingly forgot how to defend meant we were soon one down as first Dausch and then Muller got on the board for the visitors. I was going off my nut on the sideline and thankfully it seemed to get across as Iheanacho was hauled down in the area and Multhaup stepped up to bring us level from the spot.

I still wasn’t happy though and let them know at half time – this is unacceptable when we are looking to wrap up the title. I was even more furious when Braun sent them clear after another misjudged long ball somehow evaded my central defenders – I swear that I see them line it up right, get in position and then inexplicably charge underneath the ball to give the opposition strikers one on ones for fun… I was starting to go horse on the sidelines from all the screaming I was doing when Ademi picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and thrashed in a wicked shot – amazing effort from the on loan Macedonian international. Try as we might from then on we couldn’t find the winner. Paderborn somehow scored 3 goals from 4 shots on target – terrible goalkeeping today…

Season 6 Game 33 – Red Bull Leipzig (a)

Another interesting game. RBL dominated the early proceedings. I think by about the 25th minute mark they had already had around 10 shots. From there though we tweaked the formation and pressed on a bit and it worked a charm. We began to dominate possession, progressively pushing Leipzig deeper and deeper. In the 67th minute they cracked. Iheanacho pounced on a rebound and turned home from inside the 6 yard box – pure instinct. Now that the brave RBL defence had been penetrated we dropped off and protected our lead. Rossiter got another for us in the 80th but we were really more content to control possession and ensure we didn’t get caught on the counter which we did successfully.

This win made it mathematically certain that we would at least finish this season in the playoffs. That’s goal no 1 complete. Next up in ensuring promotion and then the title. We have a handy 5 point buffer to St Pauli and a further 3 to Bochum so anything less than the title would be a disappointment.

Season 6 Game 34 – Wehen (h)

Wehen made the trip to the Commerzebank Arena and we duly dispatched them. Goals to Rossiter, Iheanacho (x2) and Gedoz had us 4 nil up and cruising after only 25 minutes. Wehen then had a very good chance of their own on the break so we decided to sit back and not expose ourselves. That meant, although we still threatened plenty, that we didn’t get another goal, also though it meant we were never really at risk of conceding either. A fantastic performance at this point of the year.

View attachment 256596

I was delighted that this 3 points had secured promotion to the Bundesliga! Don’t get me wrong, the title is still the main goal, but this was what the fans were desperate for. This is where a club of Eintract’s stature belongs. We did a lap and thanked the fans after the final whistle but once inside the sheds the celebrations were kept to a minimum – we still have a title to win!

Season 6 Game 35 - St Pauli (a)

The equation here was simple. Win and the title was ours. Lose and it probably still was, but we’d just have to wait a little longer. St Pauli manager Dirk Schuster had been wildly complimentary prior to the match praising all things Rhys Burnett and Frankfurt, secretly I think he believes I will be offered a better job at the end of the year and he was politicking to be my replacement!! Iheanacho certainly enjoyed the sentiment as he fired us ahead in only the 3rd minute with his 19th goal of the season. The game then did a complete 180 as Grbic and Klein then scored to give St Pauli the lead after only 7 minutes gone!!

Like a World Championship Heavyweight boxing bout though the contest continued, each team taking a turn to slug the other with their best shot. In the 44th minute St Pauli’s defence was pierced by a Stauter jab and he was brought down for a spot kick. Gedoz slotted home and the judges’ scorecards were level at the break.

Kinsombi landed a haymaker for us in the 50th minute to knock St Pauli off their feet when he scored from close range following a corner to give us a 3-2 lead but still St Pauli rose from the canvas and came right back at us. We stayed on the attack as we didn’t want to concede the advantage and when the final whistle sounded, although we hadn’t been able to knock them out, we had won on points. The belt was ours!!

The supporters were delirious. We came home to a king’s welcome as fans lined the streets near our base at the Commerzbank Arena. It was bedlam and we had to sprint from the doors of the coach into the facility. Once inside we caught up with the Board. Funnily enough, whilst they were happy, they weren’t exactly ecstatic either. I understand that they expected us to do this but I think they could show a little more joy. For now though the player let their hair down behind closed doors. I made sure I went over and thanks Stendera. He was a big part of this even though he had practically not featured in the final half of the season. He was still well pleased we had finished the job and now he could leave knowing the club was where it should be.

Congrats on the title!! And your writing is brilliant, love the boxing analogy

Well done on the title pal, back where Frankfurt should be! Plenty of talent in your squad to do well next season too.
