Well done on the title pal, back where Frankfurt should be! Plenty of talent in your squad to do well next season too.

Thanks mate!! Am quietly thinking we might ruffle a few feathers next season!

Had to catch up with the story from when you left Oss! But a superb read man, good luck in the Bundesliga!

Season 6 Game 36 – Brauhchwieg (h)

Not that this title was secured it was party time!! This was our final home game of the season and there was a carnival atmosphere around the ground before kickoff. I took this opportunity to give Stendera a start so he could have one last run in front of the Eintracht faithful. He was overshadowed today though by boy wonder Sauter, he has been an ever present in my starting lineup since his insertion into the AMC role not long after the winter break and he has gone from strength to strength. Until today, the only gripe that could be aimed at him was that perhaps he should have scored more goals but a double today has even started to allay those fears.

The more he plays the more I believe he is the man to fill Stendera’s boots next season.

Season 6 Game 37 – Zwichau (a)

The final game of the season was away to Zwickau. Lucas Boye was given the start up front in place of Iheanacho and played extremely well. I am somewhat concerned that some of the bigger clubs may come calling for the Nigerian in the offseason so I really was hoping for Boye to prove today that he could handle the load up front and he well and truly showed me he could.

I noted with amazement the ascension of Sauter this week when the pre-match media guide listed him as our key player – the kid’s only 17!! He has gone from strength to strength though since being promoted into the first team and I am salivating at the thought of him leading the way for us in the Bundesliga next season!!

Final Table

Whilst we had ended up winning the league in a canter the fifteen point gap probably flatters us though. Interestingly Ingolstadt pipped Bochum to the 3rd and final playoff spot, although they would lose out there – Bochum really did never recover from our narrow victory over them when there was only 2 points between them and us and Ingolstadt was further 9 points behind them but in the following final 7 games they could only amass 6 points! What a collapse!!

Congrats, emphatic title win, and Sauter is developing beautifully! Look out Bundesliga!

Season 7 – Preseason Roundup

Our offseason this year was relatively low key. Once we knew of our promotion I set about looking for free transfers to assist with our battle to stay up next season. We came back from holidays welcomed Barkley and Boga into the fold. Those two look like they will be key players for us next season.

I must admit that I am still a little salty that Stendera decided to leave us although it is hard to blame Madrid for wanting him. An opportunity for a bit of revenge presented itself to me though just before the beginning of July. Lucas Silva, who had signed for Madrid with significant fanfare in 2015 had never really kicked on there, only earning a handful of first team appearances and his contract ran out. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to sign someone who will give added steel to my midfield and also represent somewhat of a reclamation project to stick my nose up about to Madrid! Just remember who loves you Stendera when Madrid chews you up and spits you out…

Once we had a fair idea of the squad I sat down with the Board and discussed our objectives for the upcoming season. I remember thinking at the end of the last season that the Board really didn’t seem all that happy even though we had won the Bundesliga 2 title and the expectations they outlined today further reflected their opinion that Eintracht was nowhere near where they should be. The lowest objective they would even consider was an above mid table finish! Personally I will be ecstatic if we avoid relegation but obviously I was the only one in the room who felt that way. I’ve got some work ahead of me.

Preseason started off pretty ugly but soon improved as I got away from experimenting and down to business towards the end. I feel we are ready to roll!!

Season 7 Game 1 – German Cup First Round, TSV Landsberg (a)

Probably the highlight of the season for TSV Landsberg from the Bavarian South league in their first game of the season as they welcomed us in the German Cup. Unfortunately for them Iheanacho was not in a generous mood. He was outstanding today finishing up with 5 goals en route to a 7 nil victory.

View attachment 256436

After the match a number of pundits in the media called Iheanacho’s performance “the perfect striker’s game” and who am I to disagree!? I’ll take that performance any day of the week!!

We also broke a couple of records in this game.

Season 7 Game 2 – Bundesliga, Bremen (a)

So this was it. For almost 2 full seasons I have been at Frankfurt now and every day has been leading up to this one – my first game in charge of one of Europe’s true big leagues (no disrespect Eredivisie). It was the first time I had been nervous for a while in the lead up. The team started nervously too, in the lead up to this one first choice centre back Kinsombi was injured so I was forced to start 18 year old Andreas Brendel and some miscommunication in defence allowed Prib to steal in and stab home after just 3 minutes. Gedoz had us level though before the break as he arrived late onto a Jung cross and headed home.

We pressed hard for a winner in the 2nd half but it was Bremen who would take all 3 points as Selke evaded the attentions of Punec on the edge of the area and then fired past Felipe. Frankly I expect a little better from both my defender and goalkeeper in that situation. Irrespective we had lost, but had been far from disgraced, perhaps we need to be slightly more pragmatic now that we are p with the big boys. Prior to this game I accepted an offer from Koln for Boye - he had joined on a free last January so to turn that around an into potentially 6 mill was too good to turn down.

Season 7 Game 3 – Bundesliga, Hertha (h)

Hertha, with Rafa Benitez in charge, came to town for our first home game back in the Bundesliga. The day before this one I got news my other first choice central defender Punec had sliced his arm in a freak accident at home. He would be available but not fully fit so I decided to start with him on the bench and in came Salehvand to complete my 18 yr old centre back duo. To compensate I reverted to the 4-3-3 with Silva dropping to a pure DM to provide extra cover to my inexperienced defenders.

It worked a treat as we coasted to a 4-1 win. Some of the goals may have come late but we were always in charge here. Great first win for the lads and a great way to ensure there is another full house next home game!!

Table Update

Its far too early to be worrying about the table but for the time being it makes nice reading. If we can finish anywhere near here in 9 month’s time I will be delighted!!

Solid start to the season! I'm confident you'll get top half this season, especially if you can just outscore everyone!

Congratulations! Well deserved triumph in the 2. Bundesliga, can't wait to see how you do in a top division.

How far do you see yourself going with Frankfurt anyway, the facilities are there for you to be a title contender.

Thanks mate. The formation change worked a treat so I am thinking I will defintiely stick with it.

I still cant believe you got Ross Barkley on a free! Sensational!

Thanks Ace. The facilities definitely are there. I was seriously considering leaving last season if a club that was obviously in better shape came in but most who were interested didnt have the playing roster we had!!

I would leave if a club that interrsted me enough or was huge came knocking but I'm probably a few seasons off that.

I had to do some serious negotiating. The agent fee on that one was a little higher than usual - if you know what I mean ;)

Season 7 – September Roundup

Season 7 Game 4 – Hamburg (h)

This was the Jereie Boga show. Hamburg actually went ahead in this on when they scored from an early corner. From there they seemed content to sit and defend but inviting pressure against us is never a good idea. We pounded them for the entire first half and were unlucky on a number of occasions not to even things up. In the 50th minute the ball was rolled out to Boga on the left wing, he slalomed inside their fullback, then with a burst of pace reminiscent of Marc Overmars in his prime, accelerated towards the byline leaving the central defender who had tried to shut him down stranded. As the other central defender was caught in two minds he lost sight of Iheanacho who had dropped off and a simple rolled ball from Boga found him and he made no mistake from 10 yards.

More impressive was our second goal. In the 90th minute Hamburg actually had a corner and my immediate thoughts were of seeing the danger out after conceding from a set piece in the first half. We managed to clear it and the ball fell to Boga 75 yards from their goal. Despite it being so late in the game he still had the reserves to lead a length of the field counter attack, evading 2 tackles, before crossing to Barkley who smashed in his first time volley for the win – the Commerzbank Arena erupted! What a finish!! I’ve been blessed with some good players in my time as a manager but none have been able to beat defenders with the same ease that Boga does – what a delight!!

Season 7 Game 5 – Koln (a)

If the Hamburg game was the Boga show then this was the encore!! Despite Koln being more than our match for the entire 90 minutes we found ourselves in comfortable position thanks to 2 moments of pure quality from Boga. The first was after Druissi found him with a through ball after he made a diagonal run in behind the fullback, with his first touch he jinked inside the centre half and with his second his curled the ball in the far corner, sweet. The second came after Jung had made a lung bursting overlap run and, instead of swinging a cross into the middle for Druissi to battle he chipped it back to Boga on the edge of the area and he side volleyed it first time into the opposite corner of the goal – amazing balance to be able to pull that off!

Konl pressed and made us sweat it out scoring a goal in stoppage time to cut the margin to one. Their targetman striker Kenan Karaman rose highest from a corner and headed home but we managed to pick up all 3 points again. We have now won 3 on the trot and it’s looking like the Board’s aspirations of a mid-table finish weren’t so farfetched after all.

Season 7 Game 6 – Schalke (h)

The might Schalke came to visit next. They have been runners up in the Bundesliga the past 2 seasons behind Bayern and have really stepped up to be the main challenger to them recently with Dortmund falling off quite a bit. Not that you would have known it from this game! We respected our more fancied opponents but we didn’t fear them and dominated both the possession and shots created over the course of the game. Man of the moment Boga scored our first sliding in at the far post to get on the end of a Sauter cross. We really should have been two up shortly later when Gedoz won us a penalty but when he stepped up to take it he saw his meek spot kick saved.

Thankfully Schalke weren’t really threatening and we eventually got the second goal when Rossiter, who had just come on for Sauter, picked of the ball 25 from goal, dribbled to the edge of the box, then found the back of the net with a nicely placed shot. From there we weren’t really troubled and ran out easy 2 nil victors – is it too early to start thinking European qualification yet?

Season 7 Game 7 – Kaiserslautern (a)

We have been playing some absolutely scintillating football lately and today was no different. Boga continued his good from going on a mazy run, beating 2 defenders, before firing in from the edge pf the area. Sauter extended our lead shortly after when he curled a ball in the Iheanacho had rolled across to him. From there it was evident that poor Kaiserslautern were severely overmatched. We continued to dominate them in front of their own fans and deservedly took a 3 goal lead when Sauter scored almost a carbon copy of his second goal, this time it was Rossiter teeing up his curling effort.

We finished this month sitting in 2nd position and it is taking all my willpower not to get ahead of myself and start dreaming about pushing for Europe. We are beating established Bundesliga sides both home and away so long may it continue!!
