Despite our exciting signings, some fools think they are better off away from Wales' capital city, who are they?

DANIELE ARRIGONI
View attachment 139765
Italian right-back Daniele Arrigoni has left us to join Manchester City for a fee of £16.5m

Arrigoni joined us from Charlton for £1m back in 2017 and made 9 league appearances for us, all of them coming last season, a season which was cruelly culled by injury

DONIS AVDIJAJ
View attachment 1064980
Donis has finally gone! The Albanian international, who's scored 11 goals in 18 games for his country, has joined Championship club Everton for a fee of £11.5m

Avdijaj, who enjoyed a wonderful debut season in English football, started kicking up a fuss and couldn't re-capture his form, scoring 21 goals in 60 games for the club

MIKKEL DUELUND
View attachment 1064989
This sale hurt me if I'm honest, I love Mikkel, the fans love Mikkel and he loves us too, but, if you love something, you've got to let it go, and I have, to Crystal Palace for £10m

Mikkel joined us in 2015 for £600,000 and went on to make 164 league appearances for us, winning the Championship, the Europa League, the European Super Cup and two FA Cups with us

JHONNY TORRICO
View attachment 139757
We brought Jhonny in from Tahuichi Agiulera in his native Bolivia for £5,000 in 2017, he never made an apperance for the club and has been moved onfor £3.7m

Jhonny never made an appearance for us but made plenty at Halmstads BK, where he made 92 league appearances over 4 years

RHYS COOK
View attachment 1064998
Rhys came through our academy and showed plenty of early promise and made 17 league appearaces for us but scored some key goals in cup competitions, winning the Europa League with us in 2020

With Rhys, it is another case of "If you love something, you've got to let it go", just keeping him here was stinting his development and bad for the national team so I've moved him on to Reading for £2m

OLGER GAMBOA
View attachment 139755
Olger is one of the many players we couldn't get a work permit for when we first signed them and his development worsened as a result

The Costa Rican never made an appearance for us and has been sold to Huddersfield for £1.8m

League football is back as I enter my eighth season at the helm of Cardiff City, the World Cup is over after Brazil beat Argentina 2-1 after extra time in Gunagzhou

View attachment 139490
Meret, Gunter, Jair, Smalling, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez, Green, Oliver (James 45), Angerschmid, G.Boyle (Ferreira 69)

A very uninspiring way to begin our league campaign as we are somehow held to a draw by Burnley, we really should have scored in this one and I'm not sure how we failed to do so

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Cardiff City 1-1 Newcastle United

View attachment 139488
Meret, Gunter, Jair, Ilic, Nakagawa, Zielinski, Brown (Martinez 79), Green, Pritchard (James 68), Angerschmid, Diba

Another game we should have won, we should have been about 3 goals up by the time Ayoze Perez grabbed Newcastle's opener and that threw us off our game, we failed to create anything for a while as we regained our composure and had to rely on a moment of magic from Marco Angerschmid to get us the draw

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Liverpool 3-3 Cardiff City

View attachment 139485
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Nakagawa, Zielinski (Martinez 79), Brown, Green, Oliver (James 79), Angerschmid, Diba

What a game! This game was full of twists and turns (as the scoreline suggests). Andre Green turned in a magnificent performance as he drove us on throughout the game, securing us the point with his hat-trick. He's the one who set the ball rolling with a wonderful free-kick as we cruised to a 2-1 lead at half-time, only for it to be squandered immediately and for Liverpool to lead 3-2 15 minutes into the half. It took another late moment of magic from one of our wingers to salvage a point as Andre Green bagged another for himself

Two tough fixtures this month as we look to build form heading into the Euro Qualifiers

EUROPEAN LEAGUE DIVISION C GROUP 4
Wales 2-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina

View attachment 139476
Morris, Yorwerth, J.Williams, Walsh, Grant, Cook, Ramsey (King 18), Huws, G.Williams, Bale (Evans 66), Roberts

We used a new formation to utilise the ageing Gareth Bale and it worked wonders as we produced a confident performance at home to Bosnia. We played a 3-6-1 formation with Bale in the hole behind Tyler Roberts and it worked very well. Unfortunately Aaron Ramsey was forced off with injury and will be out for 4 months

EUROPEAN LEAGUE DIVISION C GROUP 4
Denmark 0-0 Wales

Morris (Ward 72), Yorwerth, J.Williams, Walsh, Grant (Huws 67), Cook, King (Evans 67), Allen, G.Williams, Bale, Roberts

Our toughest match in a pretty tough European League group as we visit the Danes, we payed incredibly well defensively, not allowing the Danes many chances as we kept the ball away from them, with us recording 59% possession

An ok beginning to the season but we're going to have to improve on it if we want to progress

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Stoke City 3-1 Cardiff City

View attachment 139283
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Nakagawa, Zielinski (Martinez 63), Brown, Green, Oliver (Pritchard 72), Angerschmid, G.Boyle

Not the ideal start to the month as we register our first loss of the season. We deserved a victory here but just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. Stoke were clinical but unfortunately Greig Boyle is yet to put his shooting boots on this season. Gareth Pritchard bagged his first for the club

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Cardiff City 1-0 West Ham United

View attachment 139280
Meret, Jair, Ilic, Burke, Krejci, Brown, Nakagawa, Zielinski, Martinez, Oliver (Pritchard 69), G.Boyle

We went with our slightly unconventional 5-4-1 (With a sweeper and wing backs!). We dominated possession and didn't allow West Ham many chances which lead to a well deserved victory

LEAGUE CUP THIRD ROUND
Swansea City 0-2 Cardiff City

View attachment 139279
Meret, Jair, Ilic (Grant 74), Burke, Krejci, Brown, Nakagawa, Zielinski, Martinez, Oliver (Ferreira 74), G.Boyle

My 400th game in management and of course it's away to Swansea! We dominated again as our 5-4-1 worked wonders once more. Two quickfire second half goals killed Swansea's resolve and it was a wonderful win

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Cardiff City 0-1 Leeds United

View attachment 139278
Meret, Jair, Ilic, Burke, Krejci, Brown, Nakagawa, Zielinski (Pritchard 69), Martinez, Oliver, G.Boyle

An unfortunate slip up for our 5-4-1 as Leeds nick three points despite having just 5 shots and just 2 on target

Man City started like a house on fire which wasn't great for us as they raced into a 1-0 lead. We equalised unfairly just before half-time and I thought we could kick on., which we did, we just couldn't put it in the back of the net

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Fulham 0-2 Cardiff City
View attachment 138895
Meret, Krejci, Ilic, Burke, Nakagawa, Brown (Zielinski 66), Martinez, Green, Pritchard, Angerschmid, G.Boyle

A brilliant performance away at Fulham where we could have won 5-0. Great to see Greig Boyle find the net and brilliant to see Oliver's replacement, Gareth Pritchard, put in a Man of the Match performance

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Cardiff City 4-1 Tottenham Hotspur

View attachment 138896
Meret, Krejci, Burke, Ilic, Nakagawa, Zielinski (Rossiter 79), Martinez, Green (Claudon 79), Oliver, Ferreira (Pritchard 69), G.Boyle

Spurs' early goal threatened to destroy our chances of two wins on the bounce but it served as a rallying cry as we pushed forward, equalising around half an hour later through Dragan Ilic's first goal for the club. Jeison Murillo's own goal meant that we lead from half-time and we continued to push on in the second half, scoring 2 more to confirm the victory

LEAGUE CUP FOURTH ROUND
Leeds United 1-2 Cardiff City

Meret, Krejci, Smalling (Tausendpfund 67), Burke, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez, P.Boyle, Pritchard, Green (Angerschmid 67), G.Boyle

Two early goals killed Leeds' chances of winning and, despite the goal, we were in total control from then on

Morris, Yorwerth, Barlow (N.Taylor 52), Walsh, Grant (Gunter 52), Owens (Cook 9), Allen, Huws, G.Williams, Bale, Roberts

I'll never know how we didn't win this, Tyler Roberts missed a hatful of chances as we tried (and failed) to make it 2 wins from 3 in the European League. Rhys Cook scored his first for Wales as he came on to replace injured debutant Richard Owens, who suffered a pulled hamstring just 9 minutes into his Wales debut

View attachment 138562
Meret, Gunter, Jair, Burke, Nakagawa, Brown (Zielinski 72), Martinez, Green, Oliver (Pritchard 56), Angerschmid (P.Boyle 56), G.Boyle

A dominant performance that was unsettled slightly by Leicester's goal 20 minutes from time. Fortunately Paddy Boyle bagged a late brace to ease my nerves and to step up his European Golden boy campaign

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Cardiff City 2-2 Southampton

View attachment 138564
Meret, Gunter, Jair, Burke, Ganea, Brown (Felgate 65), Grant, Green, Pritchard, Angerschmid, Ferreira (Diba 57)

A match decided by the few minutes either side of half-time. Southampton took an undeserved lead heading into the break but luckily we came out all guns blazing and equalised, before conceding again. Fortunately David Brown scored to make it 2-2 to an end a whirlwind opening 6 minutes to the second half. Not much happened after that

LEAGUE CUP QUARTER FINAL
Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Cardiff City

View attachment 138565
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez, Green, Oliver, Angerschmid (P.Boyle 72), G.Boyle

View attachment 138464
Meret, Krejci, Ilic, Jair, Nakagawa, Brown (Zielinski 66), Martinez, Green, Oliver (Pritchard 59), Angerschmid, G.Boyle

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Cardiff City 2-1 Watford
View attachment 138463
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Ganea, Brown, Martinez, Green, Oliver, Angerschmid, G.Boyle

Watford were fairly impressive but weren't solid enough to take any points back to Vicarage Road. Oliver produced the kind of performance that places his estimated value at £34.5m as he ran the show, winning us a tight encounter

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Chelsea 0-2 Cardiff City
View attachment 138461
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Ganea, Brown, Martinez, P.Boyle, Oliver (Pritchard 65), Angerschmid, G.Boyle

What a performance! We limited Chelsea as we dominated possession, scoring 2 as our German wing wizard ran riot tearing his compatriot, Joshua Kimmich, to shreds as he bagged a brace

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Cardiff City 1-0 Arsenal
View attachment 138459
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez, P.Boyle, Oliver (Pritchard 64), Angerschmid, G.Boyle (Block 64)

Even better! Despite the scoreline, we dominated Arsenal and deserved more as we limited them to 5 shots with just 1 on target (compared to our 31 shots and 13 on target). David Brown was an unlikely source to break the deadlock but I'm glad he did as we gain a richly deserved three points

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Manchester United 3-1 Cardiff City

View attachment 138458
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Ganea, Brown, Martinez, Green (P.Boyle 64), Oliver (Pritchard 64), Angerschmid, G.Boyle

United are just too strong. They are incredible and it scares me, in these matches they're the Empire and we're the Rebels, with Greig Boyle being our Luke Skywalker. United beat us but it was closer than you might expect with their array of talent so hopefully next time it can be more "Forest moon of Endor" and less "Battle of Hoth". I can't believe I just wrote that.

We have a pretty tough Champions League group where we'll need to take points off of AS Monaco and Real Madrid if we want to progress

MATCHDAY 1

View attachment 138408
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez, Green (Zielinski 56), Oliver (James 86), Angerschmid (Burke 56), G.Boyle

This win could be huge! Monaco are the second seeds in this group and I was hoping for a draw to take bac to South Wales but we somehow managed to bag the three points. It was quite an even game which took a long range strike from David Brown to break the deadlock and to bag us a huge 3 points

MATCHDAY 2
Cardiff City 2-0 Real Madrid

View attachment 138406
Meret, Krejci, Jair, Burke, Nakagawa, Brown (Zielinski 55), Martinez, Green, Oliver (Ferreira 73), Angerschmid, G.Boyle (Claudon 88)

Another game, another huge win! 2-0 over Real Madrid is the stuff dreams are made of and this, coupled with the victory over Monaco, could be enough to see us through to the next round (As long as we beat Rosenborg of course)

SK Rosenborg 1-5 Cardiff City

View attachment 138405
Meret, Gunter, Jair, Burke, Nakagawa, Brown (Grant 64), Zielinski, Green, Oliver (James 64), Angerschmid, G.Boyle

We've played Monaco and Real Madrid and managed to keep 2 clean sheets, yet it is Rosenborg who break through our defence! Still a massive win and with 9 points from 3 games, one more win will confirm our passage into the First Knockout Round

Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez (Zielinski 77), Green, Oliver (Pritchard 71), Angerschmid, G.Boyle (Claudon 71)

A huge 6-0 victory has confirmed our passage into the knockout rounds of the Champions League! A near perfect performance from Marco Angerschmid which earned him a Match Rating of 9.9 helped us on our way to a historic win

LOAN DUO SIGN AS BLUEBIRDS COMPLETE JANUARY BUSINESS

View attachment 138141

Cardiff City have today announced the signing of two players on loan until the end of the season, with both signing from Premier League clubs

First to join the Bluebirds was Spanish striker Paco Alcacer, who's signed on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season
View attachment 138139

Alcacer, 29, joined Manchester City for £50m from Valencia back in 2017 and went on to make 96 league appearances and score 34 league goals for the club, but he never breached 10 league goals in one season

The 29 year old striker has scored 43 goals in 63 appearances for Spain and is held in high regard in his homeland, but not so much here
View attachment 138138

Second to sign for the Bluebirds was Mexican winger Hirving Lozano, who's joined from Arsenal until the end of the season
View attachment 138137

The Mexican winger, 27, joined Arsenal for £44.5m in 2018, signing from Portuguese side FC Porto, who'd bought him from Mexican side Pachuca for £8.75m just a season earlier

Lozano, who's scored 25 goals in 58 games for his country, has made 132 league appearances for the Gunners, being one of the North London's sides top performers, averaging an Average Rating of 7.5 over his five ful seasons at the Emirates

Greig Boyle's missed penalty was a sign of things to come as we spurned chance after chance before Gareth Pritchard's 37th minute strike, only for Burnley to equalise straight away through their first (and only) shot on target. A brilliant start to the month as we produce a great performance and a great result at home to Fulham. 3 different scorers including striker Boyle makes me happy

Dominance and a missed penalty, nothing seems to be going our way at the moment as we somehow fail to win against Derby, at least we broke our spell of defeat to the Rams though

FA CUP SIXTH ROUND
Manchester United 0-1 Cardiff City

We entered Old Trafford with trepidation but left with a victory and a straightforward route to the final. We limited United to few chances and took ours, with Greig Boyle striking in the first half to put us into the Semis

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FIRST KNOCKOUT ROUND 2ND LEG

A great performance from us wasn't enough to get past Barca who defended all game and grabbed a goal through a dodgy penalty on the break, very disappointing

Meret, Krejci, Jair, Ilic, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez (Grant 76), Lozano, Oliver (Pritchard 55), Angerschmid, G.Boyle (Block 55)

A pretty even game that could have gone either way with a draw being the fairest result.

A solid away performance earned us all three points here at Hampden Park. A great first half that included goals from debutant Gary Lloyd and seasoned campaigner George Williams allowed us to sit back in the second

Back-to-back 2-1 wins gives us the perfect start to our qualification campaign as we deal perfectly with two tricky opponents. Daniel James' last gasp winner bagged an important win for us

We've had our youth intake and had one player, but boy is he a good one.
