EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP KNOCKOUTS

We face a huge test against Portugal in the Second Round (A team we lost to 3-0 in a pre-tournament friendly), the winner of this tie will face Greece or Croatia in the Quarter Final

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP SECOND ROUND
Wales 2-0 Portugal
View attachment 134880
Morris, Pugh, Giggs, Walsh, Thompson, Grant, Felgate (Huws 45), Ramsey, Cook, G.Williams (Bale 74), Thomas (Sampson 87)

What a performance! We revered to our 4-5-1, having ditched it for a 4-2-3-1 against Scotland and Sweden and it worked a treat, nullifying Portugal's various attacking threats before hitting them with devastating counter attacks. Portugal, like Italy before them, didn't create much and were stopped by the "Red Wall" as we handled them superbly. Jamie Thomas scored a great breakaway goal to give us the lead before Gareth Bale and Danny Sampson played an excellent one-two to guarantee us passage into the Quarter Finals

Greece in the Quarters, interesting....

The name Danny Sampson will be sung in pubs for years! The game was extraordinarily cagey but it was obvious we were the better side as we created more than Greece. The goal just didn't come though and it took us until extra time when Aaron Ramsey slipped through Swindon Town's Danny Sampson, whose powerful effort put us in the Semi Finals

We will face Denmark in the semis, Denmark beat Germany 1-0 in their Quarter Final so are obviously a good side

Both Wales and Denmark have performed well above expectations in reaching the Semi Final of this year's European Championship. For Wales, this is the first time since 1958 that they have progressed beyond the group stage, whilst Denmark will be thinking of their historic triumph in this competition back in 1992

BLUEBIRDS IN HUGE DEADLINE DAY DEAL

View attachment 134150

Premier League champions Cardiff Cit have lit up an otherwise drab deadline day with a record breaking transfer

The Bluebirds have splashed the cash and finalised their defence for the foreseeable future by buying 24 year old Pangiotis Koulopoulos for a club record fee of £42m

Koulopoulos arrived from Gelsenkirchen earlier this morning for a medical before signing his £110,000 per week contract, becoming Cardiff's record signing in the process

Koulopoulos made 180 league appearances for Schalke, winning the European Golden Boy award during his time there. He has been a long-term target of the Bluebirds, with Cardiff having many bids knocked back over the years

Meret, Jair, Koulopoulos, Tausendpfund (Bellamy 69), Krejci, Grant, Nakagawa, Brown, Felgate, Oliver (Pritchard 69), G.Boyle

A dominant display in our first Champions League game of the season. We kept 62% of the possession and didn't allow them a shot on target, converting 2 of ours to grab the three points

Meret, Krejci, Jair, Koulopoulos, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez, P.Boyle (Block 70), Oliver (Pritchard 53), Angerschmid, G.Boyle

An incredibly poor match decided by an unfortunate error from Mr.Consistent, David Krejci. Very disappointed to lose this one

MATCHDAY 3
Cardiff City 4-0 Atletico Madrid

Meret, Koulopoulos, Jair, Tausendpfund, Nakagawa, Brown (Felgate 68), Martinez, Green, Oliver (Pritchard 68), Angerschmid, G.Boyle (Block 45)

An early goal from Marco Angerschmid gave us the perfect platform to build from which we did. Greig Boyle's penalty before half-time killed the match and allowed us to pass the game away in the second half

MATCHDAY 4
Atletico Madrid 3-3 Cardiff City

Meret, Krejci, Jair, Tausendpfund, Nakagawa, Brown, Martinez (Grant 67), Green, Oliver (Felgate 67), Angerschmid, G.Boyle

A strange game where we dominated and were cruising at 3-1 but were lucky to get away with a 3-3 draw as Atletico pushed and pushed

MATCHDAY 5
Olympiakos 0-5 Cardiff City

Meret, Krejci, Koulopoulos (Miller 69), Jair, Thompson, Brown, Martinez (Grant 58), Green, Oliver (Prithcard 58), Angerschmid, Block

A slightly rotated side did the business in Greece as we smashed Olympiakos 5-0 on a wet night Tuesday night, with German youngster Max Block bagging a brace to compliment David Brown and Andre Green's goals, as well as Olympiakos' own goal

MATCHDAY 6
Cardiff City 4-0 Sporting CP

A brace apiece from our two main goalscorers puts us through into the First Knockout Round as group winners. It was a dominant display that has banished memories of our loss in Portugal
