MATCH PREVIEW
Arsenal have fielded strong sides and been hugely impressive in this season's Carling Cup, earning their quarter-final place with emphatic victories at Newcastle and local rivals Tottenham, hitting four goals both matches.
But in the league, they have lost their last two home games, which may offer some encouragement to a Wigan side that has suffered four consecutive away defeats and have not won on the road since a victory at Tottenham in August.
The Gunners, League Cup winners in 1987 and 1993, will become the first club to reach the semi-finals 14 times if they can overcome Wigan, although Aston Villa could also reach their 14th semi-final when they take on Birmingham City 24 hours later.
Wigan, who have eliminated Hartlepool and Championship teams Preston and Swansea so far, are appearing in the quarter-finals of the League Cup for the third time in their history. The Latics are enjoying their best run in the competition since beating Arsenal to reach the final in 2006.
