The title race would come down to the last game. Even the last day was as exciting as the first day of the season. A tie would of put CSKA a tie in first, but with the tie breaker going to Levski would keep them in second. A loss, depending on how Cherno more did, could keep them in second or drop them to third. A win would seal the deal.

BOARD AGREEMENTS

Only one of two requests by coach Ryan got approved this year. Surprising one of them wasn't even to upgrade the stadium. "There were about 8 games this year where we could of have the lowest attendance. Luckily for us it didn't happen, but I believe most people wanted to see how a rookie and inexperience coach did at their beloved team. Next year we shall see how the supporters section fills up, and then we will take the appropriate action then."

New Season brings new Hope

Off-Season and Pre-Season

View attachment 70378
Coach Ryan had a successful first year campain and with that broke the top 100 in European Club rankings.
View attachment 70371
Even with their successful year, and yes losing in the second round of the Bulgarian Cup still is successful. The vocalist coach who has bashed the board, after the transfer of one of his young prospects, was offered a new one year extension with the club. It didn't take long for the coach to sign the new deal.
View attachment 70379View attachment 70384
Still while the Board was happy apparently the sponsorships were not as they offered a new deal for less money than last years. Although last year when the coach opened his mouth it never got him in trouble with the fans, Board, or even the FA. It looks as if it finally caught up to Adam Ryan and now he is paying the consequences.

Transfer Recap

View attachment 70383

Most of the money that was made last year was from transfers. Or should we say mostly just one. Still with that it helped them upgrade their training grounds.

With the new year approaching the coach decided to cut the deadwood from his team and start to fill out his roster the way he saw fit. "I gave a year for everyone to show me what they got. If they feel they have been slighted I am sorry, but I think a year is ample time to show why you should be here or not. Five players were shown the door. Although with five people out and with their money the coach has decided to go for youth to replace them to hopefully put this team in a better position.

Updates and Awards

Coach Ryan took over the team last year and expectations were to win the league. This year the result needs to be the same. However, its not expected but a fact.

View attachment 70385View attachment 70381

Pre-season there were suppose to be two friendlies. By the time pre-season started one of those friends dropped (since they moved up in the same division) and ten more were added. It looked as if it was a bad decision too add all of those since the injury bug bit one guy and then spread like a wildfire through the locker room. With that here is the results of nine of the ten pre-season games.

View attachment 70382

Liaoning 2-1
Colo Colo 1-2
Central Coast Mariners 2-0
Aurora 2-0
Portmore Utd 1-0
Banfield 0-4
Liaoning 2-1
Communicaciones (ARG) 4-0
Korean FA 3-0
Sportist (Svoge) 1-0
Linfield (playing after first leg of EC Qual's)

Fiances

For the first year was very good. Coach Ryan already started that with the loan debts being paid off this year that they are going to open up the checkbooks. He already made a big splash with a 3.7 million deal (to be paid out in the next four years though) to try to keep the team finances in good shape.

View attachment 70383View attachment 70386

Injuries

To start the year it doesn't look good for CSKA (Sofia) as they have ten people injured. It is a little better than a week ago when they had twelve people out, but coach Ryan thinks that the new people brought in and also the reserves who got moved to the senior team.

I am surprised I got Ribeiro for how cheap on wages (2,000 a week). Hopefully they will give more defense and now go after some more powerful strikers. I just need to stop having like 10 people injured a month.

Both legs of the second round qualifiers for the EC took place with the first leg in the third round, the Bulgarian Super Cup, and the last friendly. In the EC they were heavily favorite and they showed as they cruised by Linfield. Both the Super Cup and the friendly (against a league team) would prove that the injuries that CSKA substained where too much as they lost both games. Coach Ryan wasn't too upset of course with the friendly. He also called up some reserves to play in that game, but even the Cup wasn't that heartbreaking for him. "If it was the final for the Bulgarian Cup I think it would of been a different story. It's the beginning of the year and we already have half of our squad out with injuries. Plus add in the fact that the new guys are trying to get their barrings and we have have to keep changing out starting eleven for every game is not the best signs of things. The outcome isn't shocking and I am pleased that the boys didn't give up in any of the games.

Other Tidbits

One of the youth coaches was signed by Litex and CSKA got 50K from the signing. While that was the only confirmed signing their are rumors that coach Ryan is a little worried about all the injuries and is looking to find some more people. Again this is a rumor since they only have 800K left in their budget.

View attachment 70553

The board and the coach finally agree on something. It only took over a year to do so, but with the new squad bonuses they were happy to announce that they are going to pay the normal bonuses. "I would of liked to give them high bonus, but as a manager of this team we have to make sure its beneficial to both parties. Right now we don't have the money or the resources to actually do that. Hopefully when the fans see I am going to stay here for a long time that maybe things will finally work out for both parties."

August 2010

Monthly Review

This has to be one of the busiest month ever for CSKA (Sofia) under the reigns of Coach Ryan. Sure there was seven games being played, but new signings, loan players to other teams, a massive amount of money that club received, and then the dreaded "Welcome to the ECC. You are now screwed."

League Games

View attachment 70622

With the league finally starting up it looked as if CSKA would start again on top of the charts. It would be not the fairytale prediction that took place. Sure they were undefeated in the first month (2-2-0) but are not even in the top three. Although they are just two points out of first which shows what type of month its been for the league.

ECC

View attachment 70648

The playoff's came and went and they won one and lost another, but won on goal differential. Then the ECC drawings came along and they got stuck in a very hard group. There is a slim, if you consider like winning the lottery, chance for CSKA to get out of this group. Still coach Ryan isn't upset but more determined.

View attachment 70627View attachment 70625View attachment 70628

Fiances

It looked with the signing of Ribeiro (48 month payment) that they might be in the red for a couple of months. That wouldn't be the case as they been awarded money for playing in the ECC group stage. Plus with the future money from the TV rights (won't be that much) it looks as if next year they will have more than 3.6 million for their budget. Also I forgot to post last months difference so that is why there is two of them.

View attachment 70611View attachment 70616View attachment 70614

Other Tidbits

One was loaned out from the team, one was sold, and three players were bought who were free agents. While some of the players have expensive wages (or for my club) that is the only money that could of been afforded by the management for this month. Coach Ryan wanted some players on loan, but said, "I was told that with the lack of funds that the owners didn't see it wise for us to bring in anyone that cost money. I know we are in the ECC this year, and we need to bulk up the team for that competition, but they were adamant about not spending money on loan people. They feel that if we do spend money it should be for someone to come in and stay with the club for a couple of years. Tell me one good person to buy thats worth like 800K. That's right no one."

Also the numbers are in for season ticket prices. The team was ecstatic by the soaring of the numbers. Coach Ryan said it might be another year before they start to add on to the stadium for how low the number of season tickets there are. That and he is a little sad that the normal ticket price is $2.80. "Seriously that is just depressing news to hear." said coach Ryan about the average ticket price.

View attachment 70612

With at least the ECC group stages starting up soon the team is happy to announce that most of their players are back. It looked as if the injury bug had enough to feed and has left the team for awhile at this point.

Again CSKA goes undefeated in the month with a 2-1-0 record. They moved up in the standings to second, but unlike last year where Ryan juggled with two different squads for League games and the European Champions Cup he has had success.

With an away game at Ranger then the dreaded home again against AC Milan they couldn't have asked for better results. Sure they weren't suppose to win either, and they didn't, but they did manage to find points in both games. The most surprising result was Milan game at home where they went into halftime at a nil-nil game and then scored the first goal of the game.

With the two draws in the ECC helped the team bring in over another million dollars, and so far has made more money in the first two months than all of last year.

View attachment 70875

Other Tidbits

One of the new signings this year has been lost for the year during the Rangers game. Coach Ryan was a little down for losing him, but had this to say, "He is still young at only 20. He will have plently of chances to play and hopefully he can come back as strong as he was before the injury. It is a loss, and we hope the rest of the team will play at his level."

View attachment 70874

With that sad news of the injury we do have some good news to share with you and that is that a play record has been broken for the fastest goal scored in a game.

View attachment 70873

Also this month the completion of the training facilities has been upgraded. This is good news for the coach and he stated with the money being made this year that he would like it to be invested again in the training grounds and youth club for the future.

Sure we lost to the number one place team which means we are now four points out of first. Still three straight wins after that did push us back up in to second. While the scoring is down this year (only 21 goals) we have seem to shore up our defense. Don't know why we aren't scoring much, we win games either 1-0 or we blow them out like 4-0 or 4-1. Either way the coach is still impressed that we are still in title contention.

Sorry I don't have a picture. I though it did after my celebration. No sadly I didn't win, but I again got a tie at At. Madrid. I was so excited since it was at their place and basically though I didn't have a chance although they had like 28 shots to my like 9 and we ended up with a 1-1 tie. I scored in the third minute and they scored late in the second half. From the tie which moved me to last, but still in it, I was calling up some friends to tell them that my CSKA is doing well in their first ECC. Although I don't expect to advance it's still good to see me at least complete with some of the big boys.

With the tie to At. Madrid helped keep this team positive for the month. Coach Ryan acknowledged that without the money from the ECC game that they would be in the red for the month. Its the wages that are high and he said he is looking into if the team needs to cut some more deadwood. As of yet no one is on the transfer market, but that can change soon.

Yes I am very happy with the 3 ties. Sure its no wins, but luckily no losses. Plus I still get some money for a tie so in the end it all helps out.

This was a very ugly game. There was five yellows before the first goal of the game. Only for 4 minutes was it impressive. Luckily for CSKA it was their team that got focus during that time. Young Bulgarian striker Dimitar Iliev (14 games, 6 goals) rebounded a bad clearance and shot it in the top right hand corner pass the goalie who was scrambling to get back in position. A couple minutes later the game would be put out of hand as Joshua Obaje, the top scorer for CSKA, would put his tenth goal in.

View attachment 71092View attachment 71069

Michel Platini would score in back-to-back games to make it seven on the year. With being only three behind leader Obaje he would step up and score two more. Late sub Adlene Guedioura would take a shot about thirty yards out. Going far post it looked as if the goalie might get a hand on it, but it would ricocheted off of a player and would score on the near post.

View attachment 71093

With leading goal scorer Obaje injured would give Michel Platini another start. He wouldn’t disappoint his coach as he would be on another goal scoring tear as he scored twice in this game (9 goals, six goals in 3 straight games) . He had a little help from Lokomotiv as they would be down to ten minute within the first couple minutes of the game. Dimitar Iliev (8 total) would put in two goals on his own. Loco would try its best to get back in it and even had two by their striker, but with Marquinhos (4 goals) would again prove he has a dangerous shot from outside the box.

View attachment 71095View attachment 71080

Another league game and another hat trick. Yes Michel Platini did play, but he didn’t have the hat trick. However, he did score the first goal of the game (12 goals). Jozsef Kanta, who scored his first goal last game, added three more as he had the hat trick. The other midfielder, Alex, got his second goal of the year. Late sub Dormushali Saidhodzha again came through and looks like a super sub this year as he netted his fifth goal. Two goals from this game (one from Platini and Kanta) made goals of the week.

Bulgarian Cup

Coach Ryan would go into the Bulgarian Cup and would rest six of his starters. They were heavily favorites, but some fans were worried about the early exit last year and with this game being on the road. Michel Platini would break his scoreless streak of 381 minutes as he would score a hat trick (7 games, 6 goals) to win player of the match. He wouldn’t be the only player with the hat trick as captain Chrapek (9 goals) would score one was well. Backup Striker who got a start in ten games, Dormushali Saidhodzha (4 goals), would be the third scorer for CSKA as they went on to a rout. Sorry no picture!

ECC

View attachment 71084

View attachment 71085

CSKA would come out hard and fast as captain Ivan Stoyanov made his second appearance in the ECC and scored first goal (2 on year). The lead for last for at least twenty minutes until the equalizer. In the second half it would be Krysztof Chrapek (2 goals in ECC, 5 total) would have a breakaway on a counter attack. Lead was short lived as the game would be tied two minutes later.

View attachment 71094

A very weird game. This game would see seven goals, but three were disallowed and all by Rangers. In what was a loss and basically the knockout for CSKA in the group stage the refs saved them in this game as they came out with a huge win. Michel Platini would be the hot scorer. He would start his fourth straight game, and his two goals (11 goals) would be huge on the year. Jozsef Kanta (5 games 5 assists) would finally get on the scoreboard as he would have a nice curl shot from the eighteen. Walter Smith, coach for Rangers, was angry after the game. “We had the game in hand. We should be preparing for the next round of the ECC, but now we are in a fight to get out of the group stage.”

Fiances

A huge win against Rangers in the ECC and a draw against Madrid helped the team raise over a million dollars this month. With the increase from the ECC it looks as if it will be a very good off-season for CSKA.

League play has taken a break for this month and next. So with the break CSKA moves its away into first place. On the year they have only loss one game, and of course it had to come during league play.

Bulgarian Cup Round 3

View attachment 71452View attachment 71445View attachment 71446

Third time in the last four games that a player, Marquinhos and Saidhozha this game, scored a hat trick. Marquinhos (7 goals, 2 assists) did score two of his goals on his normal outside of the box shots. He did venture in and score one inside the box off of a rebound that hit off the woodwork. Saidhozha (8 goals, 11 assists) who went from super sub to starter this game. Top two team scores also got their hands dirty again in this game. Obaje (13 goals, 9 assist) is leading, but nipping at his heels is Platini (12 goals, 8 assist). Plus this is where CSKA lost last year in the Bulgarian Cup and they show that they are ready to complete in this tournament. Two team records also fell during this game.

In a game that A.C. Milan was suppose to dominate they did. At least on shots and that’s all. “Sometimes its not the quantity but the quality. Sure they had more shots on target, but most were straight to the keeper. The first goal was great for our team. On the road it not only quiet the crowd, but it showed our team could play and complete against them. While we were huge underdogs this is a great result.” said coach Ryan after the game. After the game they needed at least a tie or a win by Rangers to advance and Rangers would come through as they won so CSKA gets out of the group stage.

In their first game in over a month and a half it looked as if the team didn’t even miss the beat. The captain Stoyanov and top goal scorer Obaje would push the team with an easy 2-0 win. Ryan losses one of his most better and consistent player on defense to his collection of five yellow cards. Also Ribeiro was out of the country for international play, so last years goalkeeper Karadzhov got his second start this year.

View attachment 71589

Nothing looked good in the first half of this game for CSKA. It looked as if they would lose their second game of the year as they were trailing at half 2-nil. Maybe it was cause a couple days ago they sold their captain, Stoyanov, and broke up some of the chemistry. “At half I told the lads that maybe we should forfeit the game. It was the worst half of football I seen since I been here. If they wanted to play like that I told them to just pack it up now and lets go home. I went out to actually throw in the towel, but the lads followed me out and said they were ready to play.” The second half looked like a totally different team as they would not only comeback, but would dominate the game. With sixteen minutes left in the game they would finally break through. Illiev (breaks double digits goals with 10) and Platini (ties team record with 15 goals) would come through as both would score two goals each.

View attachment 71591

CSKA comes back from a 1-1 tie last game at home, and off of a destroying loss to Barcelona. They still had some lingering effects on defense, but in the end they came out on top. We have a new leader in goals on the team as Platini (17 goals) as he put in two more this game while Obaje (16 goals) would only score one. “I was afraid after the last two games that there would be a hangover. I am not too happy as they outshot us 3-1, but a win is a win. We all know that we are out of the ECC, but all I ask for is that the team still completes in every game.

View attachment 71588

We had that game won. It was our game and we let it get away.” is what coach Ryan said after the tie. They were up and should of won this game easily, but the second two goals were off of PK’s in which the defense would give up cause of a lack of concentration. Midfield Alex (seven start in league) put in his third goal in the year. Super Sub, Saidhodzha, got another start and wouldn’t disappoint as he scored his ninth goal on the year. The hottest player on the team, who is loan to them for the second straight year, is Platini who capped off the scoring with his eighteen goal.

ECC Knockout Round 1

View attachment 71585View attachment 71582View attachment 71574

CSKA got the first leg against Barcelona at home. Of course Barcelona had the odds, but it was the worst odds that CSKA in the ECC this year, which means that CSKA is improving under new coach Adam Ryan. CSKA only got 4 shots, with only one on target which was softly hit to the goalkeeper. Barcelona saw that CSKA is sometimes prone to counter-attacks, but then never played against a team who could kick it from their final third to opposite field. It wouldn’t be good for CSKA when they would get destroyed, like we had a chance, and have both feet and are ten feet outside the door.

Fiances

Only made money this month due to the fact of the sale of a guy for five million.

View attachment 71580View attachment 71583

Other Tidbits

Coach Ryan decided it was time to loan out some players to the end of the year. Mostly were young people trying to get some playing time. Only one of the players got a fee for the loan and that was 14K for Orlin Orlinov. The only player sold was Ivan Stoyanov. Most people liked him, and so did Ryan, but he didn't make the regular team on the normal basis. Plus since he was worth only 2.5 million and the sale for was 5 million with incentives up too 5.5 million.

With another winning month, 3-1-0, they still are in first place. With two months to good (7 games), they look to be in the prime position to claim top spot again. Platini and Obaje look to be peaking at the right time, and all eyes are on the coach to see if he will make Platini transfer for good.

Boris Galchev gets his first goal for the club. Obaje (18th) and Platini (20th) would both score goals to lead the team to the shutout.

View attachment 71597View attachment 71594

In the battle of first place, CSKA could have been tied with a lost for first, still kept a lead with a tie, or push the lead to six points. CSKA would get help by Obaje (19th) goal early in the first half. It would be a closely defensive game and both teams would be hard press to get shots off.

Finishes this month with a 3-0-2 record. Even with losing more games this month than any other previous months combined, they only gave up one point in the lead from last month. So while the top teams are struggling with just two games left all CSKA needs to do is win one of them to seal off their second league championship.

View attachment 71618

With the first and third place teams facing off it would be more in it for CSKA than Litex. No way for Litex to take first, that is unless CSKA and Cherno lose the rest of the year. With six points its all about CSKA. With that it looked as if the pressure got to them. Down 1-0 at half and then a two minute span in the second half would put them in a 3-0 hole. Looks as if the streak of form of Platini and Obaje has ended.

View attachment 71616

Platini and Obaje wouldn’t waste long getting on the scoreboard. Platini wouldn’t get the score, but Obaje would be on the receiving end of the pass to score his 21st. Rumen Trifonov got his first goal for CSKA off of a beautiful header on a corner. Dimitar Ilier would get his 11th in stoppage time.

View attachment 71619

Saidhodzha would be the fourth person on the team who would score in double figures as he hit his 10th goal of the year, and ended his 365 minute drought. The lead would be short lived as they would concede two goals. Right before half though Obaje (22nd) would come through to tie up the game at half. They would regain the lead when Kostadin Stoyanov would score his first ever goal for CSKA to seal the win.

View attachment 71617

Iliev (12th) would score within the first two minutes to open up this game. That would be the only good moment for coach Ryan in this game. Again for the second straight game they would give up the lead, but unlike that one they would fail to come back from it.

With a 1-1-1 record this month they sure did make the final month exciting for Bulgarian fans. Would they repeat as champions or would the pressure of being champions be too much. Last year it came down to the final game. It was fine since it was the first year for coach Ryan. This year same scenario, and again his team pulled it out. "It would be nice if we could close out the year sooner than this, but I guess you will take it whenever it comes. I know I am young but this is not good for the health. I guess the fans are getting their money's worth though." said a calm Adam Ryan after repeating as champs.

View attachment 71643

Everything was controlled by CSKA in this game. Sadly though the shots that went in the goal was the only thing that they didn’t control. There were two goals scored by Cherno. One was an own goal which kept them from talking all 3 points today. Second place lost today so all CSKA needs to seal up first place is a tie in the next two games.

View attachment 71646View attachment 71629View attachment 71630

In what could of sealed up the league with a tie CSKA came out flat and laid a goose egg. Not only did they lose the game, but they also lost two people with injuries. The biggest hit was with leading scorer Obaje. Looks as if Platini will claim top goal scorer this year since he is out for the rest of the year.

Again the champions would be decided in the last game of the year. Again it would be between Cherno and CSKA. Again a tie gives CSKA the win. CSKA would get off to a quick start with a nice low strike by Iliev. Another goal by defender Kostadin Stoyanov (2nd) in the first half would look to all by seal the championship. The next goal that would come would be at the hands of the opposition, but would be in stoppage time. A goal a little too late sealed the championship to CSKA as they do the double.

Bulgarian Cup Semi Final

Platini (22nd) would get things started off with a bang in the third minute. It would looked like the trend of losing games would continues as they would concede a goal before half. It would be tied, until super sub Saidhodzha (12th, 13th) would score twice to seal the game. First off of a rebound from Obaje block shot, and the other was a screamer from the nineteen.

Bulgarian Cup Final

CSKA would fall behind early in this game. With leading goal scorer, Obaje, out with an injury he told Platini to pick up the slack and take over the leadership of the team. Plus it was okay if he beat him in goals cause it’s just a friendly completition. With only this game and the last league game it came down to just one goal that seperates them. He wouldn’t disappoint and wouldn’t keep fans wondering who would win it as he would score a hat trick (23rd, 24th, 25th). Loko would tie the game up at 2-2, but couldn’t keep up with Platini as CSKA wins their first Bulgarian Cup under coach Ryan. There was more yellow cards (6) than goals and they came all by the hands of CSKA players.

Coach Ryan in two years of being a coach has already made it into a Hall of Fame. Sure its the American list, but hey its a start. Plus coach Ryan won his second Manager of the Year.

AWARDS

Two of Ryan's players won awards this year. Not only that, but two more were runner up's to awards.

RETIREMENTS

View attachment 71631View attachment 71633

Only two people this year. Sadly it is coaches and not players. One of them was very good for the club, and Coach Ryan doesn't know if he will be able to replace a coach of his caliber.

UPGRADES

Again another year and the stadium is staying the same. Again some low numbers were expected to come out to a couple of games. Luckily for the team it never happened. Still that alone kept the Board and coach from putting money into it. They went the safe route and decided to spend money on upgrading on how the team progresses throughout the years.

Nice ending to the season mate winning the double. Ribeiro has proved himself to be a good player. Who's that Michel Platini? Looks like a very good player.

He has been on the team for 2 years. I don't know if he led the team in scoring for both years, but I know he was close the first year if he didn't win it.

Sponsorships Deals

Again two new deals up, and the new deals are less than what it was previous. Apparently winning league two years in a row, the Bulgarian Cup last year, and making it out of the group stage of the ECC isn’t good enough to get more money.

Didn’t see this coming. Too bad I am not very good of getting people on loan. Well at least I like it just for the money.

TRANSFERS

SOLD

Again all players sold have been impressive. Only one was sold at market price (Marquinhos). Biggest surprised was Boris Galchev. While he didn’t produce that much last year he was sold for almost a million more than the asking price. He was sold at $1.5 million. Don’t have a picture which is why I am saying the price.

BOUGHT

Coach Ryan had the option to buy Platini for $850K, and he did not hesitate at all to get this deal done. Really weird thing was I got money from the sale (or me buying him) from the transfer clause. Though it was funny so I took a picture of it.

Man, I have a CSKA Sofia game at the moment. They're a really good team to play as.
