APRIL

Aberdeen 1 (Pawlett 42)
Partick Thistle 3 (Balatoni 61, Craigen 73, Mason 76pen)

WHERE THE **** DID THIS RESULT COME FROM??? We were awful here and from memory this is our first home defeat in the league this season.

--

Aberdeen 5 (Goodwillie 13, 90pen, McGinn 35, Logan 59, Fraser 79)
Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2 (Doran 3, McKay 66)

It was important to bounce back with a win here and we did so in an emphatic fashion as we scored 5 and had 2 disallowed!! We went past the 100 goal mark here.

--

Kilmarnock 0
Aberdeen 2 (McGinn 13, Rooney 30pen)

Killie had a mid-season revival but they seem doomed now as we go into the split. A rare clean sheet!

--

William Hill Scottish Cup Semi-Final

St.Johnstone 1 (MacLean 29)
Aberdeen 2 (Rooney 16pen, Reynolds 100)
AET

We did what was required to make it through to the final. Rooney missed a penalty in the 2nd half and they had a man sent-off so we made a meal of it.

--

Dundee United 2 (Paton 74, Dow 79)
Aberdeen 2 (Pawlett 42, C.Smith 81)

A decent point I suppose but Celtic won to reduce our lead in the table to 5pts. Squeaky *** time!!!

--

Aberdeen 1 (Aarons 46)
Celtic 2 (Commons 66, Pecnik 90)

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems we are bottling it big time here. A draw would have been a fair result but we couldnt hold on.

SUMMARY

Oh dear - this was not a good month as we dropped 8pts in the league and our defeat against Celtic means our lead is now only 2pts with 3 games to play. The only consolation for us is that we managed to reach the Scottish Cup final by beating St.Johnstone - Hamilton Accies will be our opponents.

One piece of good news was that Mark Reynolds signed a new long term contract with us. He is one of my key players and has been a top performer this season.

MAY

Ross County 1 (Ross 65)
Aberdeen 2 (Toshney og3, Pawlett 11)

This is a great result as we had Logan sent-off and Goodwillie injured but we held on. Celtic drew so we are 4pts clear!!!

--

Aberdeen 5 (Pawlett 26, Goodwillie 27, 51, Reynolds 40, Caddis og90)
St.Johnstone 0

CHAMPIONS!!!!!! We needed a win to take the title and we did so in fine style. Celtic lost 1-0 so now our lead extends to 7pts!!

--

Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3 (Asensio 29, 66, Tansey 82)
Aberdeen 3 (Fyvie 2, Antolic 34, Robson 67)

We end the league campaign with a thrilling draw against Caley. Barry Robson came off the bench in what will be his last game for the club and scored against one of his former clubs. I rested several players for the cup final here.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup Final

Aberdeen 8 (Pawlett 5, 47, Goodwillie 27, 29, 75, Fyvie 60, Aarons 62, Rooney 84)
Hamilton Academical 1 (Crawford 79)

WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!!! Pawlett (2 goals, 4 assists) and Goodwillie (3 goals, 2 assists) ripped Hamilton to shreds as we completely destroyed them.

SUMMARY

What a finale to the season this month was as we ended up winning the double. We won the title in fine style as we put 5 past St.Johnstone but we saved our best for the Scottish Cup final as we beat Hamilton Accies 8-1!!!

Barry Robson will retire at the end of the season as will one of my scouts while the board have told me my budget for next season will be $2.7m. There were several awards etc that we won but I will tell all in the end of season post.

END OF SEASON POST

What a debut season that was!!! We absolutely blew everyone away in Scotland as we romped home in the league by 7pts and cruised it to be honest apart from a dodgy fortnight at the end of April. We scored 116 goals in the league as my attacking formation paid off - sure we conceded a few too many but hey ho.

We won the Scottish Cup to complete the double too. We smashed Hamilton 8-1 in the final but the victory over Celtic in the quarter finals was just as sweet as we thumped them 4-0.

Unfortunately we threw away a 2 goal lead in the semis of the league cup to Celtic which denied us the domestic treble. In Europe we had a great adventure as we scored 46 goals and had some glamour matches against Inter Milan to boot.

Player wise just about everyone excelled. Rooney and Goodwillie scored over 40 goals each while Pawlett, McGinn and Aarons banged in a lot from the wings. Flood and Jack impressed in midfield while Reynolds and Taylor were solid at the back.

Probably the only disappointment was my signing, Domagoj Antolic, who I had hoped would be a major first team player but he just didnt get a regular first team start.

I am not a fan of this years game due to the fact that there are far too many goals scored. To tell the truth when I first started this save I beat College Europa 17-0 and 10-0 over the 2 legs so restarted it lol

I have however got over the goals scored in this save. Not going to demolish teams in the Champions League with Aberdeen for a while yet!!!

Ha, ha, ha, 27-0! I'd have been bragging not restarting lol :P

PRE-SEASON

I have been pretty busy so far this summer regarding both player and staff recruitment and with my first game being played on the 15th of July I am not finished yet!!! With a transfer budget of $2.7m I went into the window with a mindset of not using the loan system if I can help it.

Regarding the new staff that came in, I took Rene Meulensteen away from relegated Motherwell as my new coach and I also signed up another ex-Don in Ross O'Donoghue as an U20 coach amongst others.

There was some bad news during the summer as Willo Flood got injured and will be out for 6 months and I failed to agree a new contract stupidly at the first attempt so hopefully I will get another chance to negotiate!!!

--

PLAYERS IN

I have only spent a transfer fee on 2 players so far and that was on 16y/o Kevin O'Hara from Falkirk ($110,000) and 15y/o Paul Crawford from Airdrie ($25,000). I stumbled across O'Hara in a random player search and with the right development I feel he could turn into a decent player.
View attachment 314002View attachment 314001

All my other signings so far have been on free transfers and unquestionably my best signing was Nicola Leali from Juventus. He will be my new first choice keeper and in arriving is probably the best keeper in Scotland now.
View attachment 314003

My favourite signing saw the return of one of my favourite ever ex-Aberdeen players in Kevin McNaughton from Cardiff. He will provide cover in both full back positions and is a great signing. The silver fox returns!!!
View attachment 314004

I also brought 3 other players back to Scottish football. Former Hearts defender Ryan McGowan, and 2 former Rangers midfielders John Fleck and Jamie Ness have been signed. McGowan will get plenty of game time as he can play anywhere in defence. Fleck should also get decent game time while Ness has been brought in as backup - mainly to cover for Flood's injury.
View attachment 314007View attachment 314006View attachment 314005

Gary Mackay-Steven was signed from Dundee United and he will provide cover on the wings as will Wellington Silva - who was released by Arsenal.
View attachment 314010View attachment 314009

There were some players I missed out on for various reasons - Islam Feruz, John Guidetti, Anthony Annan and Craig Wighton being the main 4.

--

PLAYERS OUT

The only fee I received was from Partick Thistle for Clark Robertson ($53,000). There hasnt been too much interest in my players surprisingly so it has been pretty quiet on that front.

Barry Robson retired while amongst the players being released were Nicky Low, Craig Murray, Craig Storie, Declan McManus and Kieran Gibbons.

Lawrence Shankland and Joe Shaughnessy are 2 of a group of players who are being loaned out and hopefully they can push on and develop further with regular first team games.

Obviously Fyvie, Aarons and Fraser's loan spells came to an end also.

Vardar 0
Aberdeen 8 (Pawlett 4, McGinn 27, 60, Goodwillie 31, 78, 90pen, Fleck 34, Rooney 46)

Aberdeen 5 (Goodwillie 1, Pawlett 33, Reynolds 41, 47, Fleck 60)
Vardar 1 (Krstevski 68)
(Aberdeen win 13-1 on aggregate)

Safely through to the next round we go. Young Kevin O'Hara came off the bench to make his debut.

--

UEFA Champions League 3rd Qualifying Phase 1st Leg

FC Kobenhavn 2 (De Ridder 54, Leali og85)
Aberdeen 2 (Goodwillie 45, 69)

This was a decent result I suppose and by looking at the quality of the opposition I dont envisage us having too many problems in the 2nd leg.

SUMMARY

There were just 3 games played this month so there is not much to say really!! We thrashed the side from Macedonia 13-1 on aggregate and then went to Denmark and got a decent result against FC Kobenhavn.

The only other bit of news was that I got a new feeder club - Steaua Bucharest.

AUGUST

Aberdeen 2 (Rooney 2, Goodwillie 42)
St.Mirren 1 (McLean 12)

We were nowhere near our best here but we got the win which was the main thing.

--

UEFA Champions League 3rd Qualifying Phase 2nd Leg

Aberdeen 6 (Rooney 13, 21, 27, Goodwillie 29, Wellington Silva 45, Pawlett 71)
FC Kobenhavn 3 (Jonsson 56, De Ridder 60, 85)
(Aberdeen win 8-5 on aggregate)

Into the next round we go as we blitzed the Danes apart here thanks to a hat-trick from Adam Rooney.

--

Hamilton Academical 3 (Ryan 17, 69, 70)
Aberdeen 5 (Rooney 8pen, 14pen, Goodwillie 26, Hayes 78, Mackay-Steven 89)

We were cruising here but their young striker Andy Ryan just ripped through us as he scored a hat-trick. Fortunately we got 2 late goals.

--

Aberdeen 5 (Mackay-Steven 1, 26, Goodwillie 14, Considine 40, Wellington Silva 85)
St.Johnstone 1 (Sutton 51)

I had to make 7 changes to the starting lineup so I am delighted that we managed to win so convincingly.

--

Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2 (Ferguson 53, McKay 56)
Aberdeen 5 (Goodwillie 3, 49, Wellington Silva 43, Reynolds 60, McGinn 73)

Another 5 goal haul and once again both of my front 2 got on the scoresheet - Goodwillie especially s in great form. They had a man sent-off one minute after they got it back to 2-3.

--

UEFA Champions League Playoff 1st Leg
Aberdeen 6 (Goodwillie 35, 79, Pawlett 58, 71, Rooney 64, Antolic 68)
Basel 2 (Kakitani 9, Sio 86)

WOW!!!! We certainly are on fire just now as we ripped their defence apart (more holes than in some swiss cheese you could say lol) and scored 6 plus Wellington Silva had a goal disallowed.

--

Aberdeen 3 (Reynolds 1, Rooney 60, Morris og72)
Dundee United 0

A good win and considering our scoring record in our recent games Dundee United should be proud of limiting us to just 3 goals. This was the first time this season that Goodwillie didnt score.

--

UEFA Champions League Playoff 2nd Leg
Basel 3 (Streller 70, Kakitani 87, 89)
Aberdeen 3 (McGinn 38, Sinkala 41, Reynolds 90)

(Aberdeen win 9-5 on aggregate)

This game was a dead rubber to be fair but it was entertaining all the same with a frantic ending. They had a goal disallowed too.

--

Ross County 1 (R.Quinn 61)
Aberdeen 3 (McGinn 15, 77, Pawlett 26)

There was a war of words between myself and Jim McIntyre beforehand so I was pleased to win this.

SUMMARY

This was a hectic month as we had 9 games to shove in. We were on fire too as we scored 38 goals which was an average of more than 4 a game. My forwards were really on top form and if it was possible seem to be better than last season.

In the Champions League we were drawn in an impossible group alongside Bayern Munich, Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur.

There was a load of transfer business done. Firstly I rejected offers for Jonny Hayes ($2m), Peter Pawlett ($2.6m) and Shay Logan ($1.2m).

I did sell Domagoj Antolic to Empoli for $950,000 which was a large profit on the $91,000 I paid 12 months ago.

Incoming were 4 new players. I spent $300,000 on David Babunski from Barcelona and $60,000 on Ben Bruce from my feeder side Walsall. Babunski was brought in as cover for LW and he is a technically gifted player who has a lot of time to develop. Bruce was subject of a bid from Chelsea so I stepped in.
View attachment 313451View attachment 313450

Finally on free transfers I brought in Nicky Maynard to act as cover up front and Nathan Sinkala to replace Willo Flood after he suffered a long term injury in the summer.

Pittodries greatest night - 1983 Aberdeen v Bayern Munich

SEPTEMBER

Aberdeen 4 (Goodwillie 7, 58, Jack 64, 78)
Falkirk 1 (Durojaiye 33pen)

Falkirk are bottom of the table without a win but they made life awkward for us here for an hour but then our greater quality shone through.

--

UEFA Champions League Group A
Aberdeen 0
Tottenham Hotspur 2 (Soldado 89pen, Young 90)

This was heartbreaking. Spurs battered us but we defended brilliantly and Leali was superb in goal but in the last minute McGowan gave away a penalty and got sent-off and that killed the game for us. Amazingly this is the first game that we have failed to score in.

--

Aberdeen 2 (McGinn 57, Pawlett 60)
Heart of Midlothian 1 (Walker 62)

This was a tricky match and Hearts caused us a lot of problems, so much so that Leali got the man of the match award.

--

Scottish Communities League Cup 3rd Round

Aberdeen 3 (Wellington Silva 45, Fleck 86pen, Maynard 87)
Stirling Albion 1 (Reid 67)

I played my backups here and they struggled against the League 1 side until the last 5min where we scored twice.

--

Celtic 2 (Commons 43, Biton 62)
Aberdeen 1 (Goodwillie 8)

The key moment here was when Sinkala had a goal disallowed that would have put us 2-0 up. Celtic had a man sent-off with 15min to go but we couldnt take advantage. Our 1st league defeat of the season.

--

UEFA Champions League Group A
Bayern Munich 3 (Lewandowski 13, 61, Javi Martinez 41)
Aberdeen 1 (Rooney 46)

We were never going to win this game so I am really pleased with the effort that the players put in.

SUMMARY

This wasnt the greatest month as we won 3 and lost 3 of our 6 games although our defeats were against Celtic, Spurs and Bayern so it was understandable. We end the month 6pts clear at the top of the table so that is good.

What is also good was that Ryan Jack got his first cap for Scotland while Goodwillie and Reynolds were also involved. I also appointed former Aberdeen player and co-manager, Jocky Scott as a youth coach.

What is worrying however was that I failed to negotiate a new contract for the 2nd time!! Lets hope they dont get too ****** off with me.

OCTOBER

Partick Thistle 1 (Doolan 32)
Aberdeen 3 (Rooney 51pen, Fleck 62pen, Maynard 65)

Partick made life difficult for us here but Peter Pawlett tripped over his laces twice in the box and we converted the resulting penalties to take the spoils.

--

Dundee 1 (Boyle 82)
Aberdeen 4 (Reynolds 20, 44, Jack 23, Konrad og77)

A good win with Mark Reynolds notching up his 6th and 7th goals of the season.

--

UEFA Champions League Group A

Ajax 2 (Boye 33, Klaassen 90)
Aberdeen 1 (Goodwillie 49)

AAGGHH!! For the 2nd time we have last minute heart-break in this group stage. To be fair we deserved to get thumped. Taylor got sent-off in stoppage time.

--

Aberdeen 1 (Goodwillie 13)
Hamilton Academical 0

From memory this is our first 1-0 win under my management but it should have been 4 or 5 nil. Sinkala got injured and is out for a couple of months.

We sneaked this one but we had a goal disallowed and were missing a few players too.

SUMMARY

The goals dried up a bit this month as we scraped by in a few games but overall I was content with our efforts. Already in the league we have opened up a 15pt gap although Celtic have a couple of games in hand.

We are in the League Cup semis and will face Dundee United while in the Scottish Cup our opponents will be either East Stirlingshire or Clyde.

I finally signed a new contract with the club and then the board gave me a higher wage budget so that could come in handy in January!!!

Ash Taylor won his first cap for Wales during the month while Rooney scored his first goals at international level too.

NOVEMBER

UEFA Champions League Group A
Aberdeen 1 (McGinn 62)
Ajax 1 (Zivkovic 3)

We get our 1st point of the group stage and it was deserved, even though they had a goal disallowed.

--

St.Johnstone 2 (MacLean 43, O'Halloran 51)
Aberdeen 4 (Reynolds 13, Mackay-Steven 35, McGinn 61, 84)

This was a topsy-turvy affair as we had it won before we were in danger of throwing it away until Niall McGinn popped up with 2 goals.

--

Aberdeen 1 (McGinn 90)
Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1 (McKay 13)

Caley are 2nd in the table and have some decent players on loan from Arsenal such as Marco Asensio (again), Hector Bellerin and Dele Alli and we were rescued by Niall McGinn's last minute free kick. Willo Flood finally made his return from injury here.

--

UEFA Champions League Group A

Tottenham Hotspur 4 (Aubameyang 10, 49, Soldado 34, Townsend 78)
Aberdeen 2 (Jack 3, Rooney 44)

This was a respectable scoreline but if they didnt have 3 goals disallowed and missed a penalty then it would have been a different story!!!

--

William Hill Scottish Cup 4th Round

East Stirlingshire 0
Aberdeen 2 (Babunski 48, McGowan 90)

My backups made hard work of this but they got the job done in the end.

SUMMARY

Once again we werent quite at it this month as we won only 2 of our 5 games. That being said we progressed in the Scottish Cup and got a decent draw against Ajax in the Champions League.

In the Scottish Cup we will play Hearts while we are destined to finish bottom of our Champions League group so no consolation prize of Europa League football either.

Peter Pawlett made his international debut for Scotland during the month.

SUMMARY

This month was pretty decent as we performed well enough and end the calendar year a whopping 15pts clear at the top of the table. We also got a decent draw against Bayern Munich but that was tainted by ourselves conceding a last minute equaliser.

The other bad point was the defeat against Celtic. It came out of the blue and was totally unexpected.

SUMMARY

This was a good month as we won every single game and in doing so progressed to the League Cup final where we will come up against Dundee so I would like to think that we can win that. The title is all but ours as we have an amazing 20pt lead at the top of the table.

Off the pitch I was busy too. Regarding transfers I brought in 2 young defenders on free transfers. The one I rate highest is the French U19 defender Ange Traore while I hope Toni Zivkovic improves greatly too!

I also arranged an amazing deal for the summer, pulled out of a $2m deal for Andrej Kramaric and just missed out on getting Youri Tielemans on a pre-contract deal as he decided to join Real Madrid instead.

Outwards was Nicky Maynard who joined Dundee on loan until the end of the season and Scott Brown joined Kilmarnock for a whopping $3,750!!!! Russell Anderson announced his impending retirement at the end of the season.

FEBRUARY

Hamilton Academical 1 (Allart 35)
Aberdeen 1 (Hayes 59)

This was the top 2 going against each other and Hamilton gave us a tough match and almost beat us.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup 5th Round
Heart of Midlothian 0
Aberdeen 3 (Considine 4, Goodwillie 75pen, 84)

I thought that this was going to be a bit of a banana skin but we dominated from start to finish and march into the next round.

--

Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1 (Tansey 10)
Aberdeen 0

This is getting worrying. Our first game without scoring in the league since I took charge and an awful performance. We need to kick on big time, yes the title is going to be ours but I have standards to keep.

--

Aberdeen 3 (Goodwillie 29, 90, Rooney 34)

Dundee United 0

We bounced back here and could have scored more. Pawlett had one disallowed.

--

Ross County 2 (Brittain 2pen, R.Quinn 83)
Aberdeen 5 (Goodwillie 21, Rooney 39pen, 90pen, Jack 45, McGinn 51)

This game changed when we got rewarded our first penalty and they had a man sent-off. A decent away victory.

--

Celtic 0

Aberdeen 2 (Pawlett 5, McGinn 51)

This was the perfect way to get revenge of our defeat to Celtic earlier in the season. We didnt deserve it as we only had 3 shots on target and had Ryan Jack sent-off but I dont care!!!

SUMMARY

This month started off terribly but ended brilliantly. We dropped 2pts against Hamilton and then lost to Inverness as we were really struggling for form but then we picked ourselves up and got convincing victories over Ross County and Dundee United before beating Celtic 2-0 away.

I released Danny Rogers from his contract as he was causing a bit of a fuss while in the youth intake we got nobody of note.

Enjoying seeing Nathan Sinkala go round.

He was always one of my first buys on previous FMs.

I have never heard or seen him before!!!

I found him by accident for Deportivo in about 11(?), have bought him every year since & he has been quality.

Yet to try him this year so lets hope he doesn't make an *** of me. ;)

MARCH

Aberdeen 4 (McGinn 15, Rooney 75, 80, Wellington Silva 89)
Falkirk 1 (Taiwo 32)

We left it late here but we won convincingly in the end.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup Quarter-Final
Hibernian 0
Aberdeen 6 (Rooney 7, 33, 57pen, Babunski 19, Wellington Silva 41, Turner og63)

I rested a load of players here and they did the job against the Championship side.

--

Aberdeen 2 (Rooney 15pen, 49pen)
Heart of Midlothian 0

WE RETAIN THE TITLE!!!! This win takes us 28pts clear of Hearts which is quite rediculous.

--

Scottish Communities League Cup Final

Aberdeen 3 (Goodwillie 3, Pawlett 8, McGinn 26)
Dundee 1 (Harkins 83)

We claim the League Cup here thanks to the great start we had as we scored 3 in the first half hour. They had a goal disallowed but we just went through the motions to see the game out.

--

Partick Thistle 1 (Lawless 86)
Aberdeen 3 (McGinn 3, 17, Pawlett 34)

I was tempted to play my backups but I decided against it and despite ******* up the team talk we got the win. They had 2 late goals disallowed though.

SUMMARY

Any month where you win all your games is a good month but when you get one that also includes your team securing the championship and league cup then it is an amazing month.

The title was secured when we defeated 2nd place Hearts and though I am tempted to play my backups in the remaining games, due to the lack of quality in the youth ranks, it probably wont happen.

We defeated Dundee to win the League Cup and in the Scottish Cup we will play in the semis against St.Johnstone.

The board have told me that my budget for next season will be just under $5m so maybe I might start splashing the cash (in Scottish terms) in the summer.
