What an amazing season mate! only really a couple of bad moments during the season, good luck for the next season ahead, seems like you got a great team on your hands, already looking at new targets for next season or you going to stick with the majority of the team from this season?

APRIL

Dundee 0
Aberdeen 2 (Pawlett 17, 43)

This was our final game before the split.

--

Aberdeen 4 (Reynolds 6, Rooney 23, 42, Babunski 72)
Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2 (McKay 4, Meekings 53)

McKay and Rooney went into this game as joint top scorers in the league and it was Rooney who ended the game ahead here. Caley probably deserved a draw though.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup Semi-Final

St.Johnstone 0
Aberdeen 4 (Rooney 16, McGinn 55, Pawlett 68, 71)

We march into the final here with a terrific performance.

--

Heart of Midlothian 3 (Ross 31, Pallardo 45, Milne 52)
Aberdeen 0

This, by far, was the worst performance since I have taken over. We only mustered 2 shots on goal and cant even blame the sending off of Mark Reynolds as we were 2 nil down and obviously going to lose when that happened.

--

Aberdeen 3 (Pawlett 3, Sinkala 10, Goodwillie 40)
Dundee 1 (Roberts 2)

SUMMARY

We are just going through the motions in the league so I didnt really care about the results (apart from the Hearts game) as we didnt have any points targets or unbeaten season aims to go for. The one important game was the Scottish Cup semi-final and we thumped St.Johnstone 4-0 to reach the final and keep alive our hopes of the treble.

Russell Anderson hung up his boots this month and joined the coaching staff of the U20 squad. Anderson is a club icon and is in the top 10 list for appearances at the club.

Signing new contracts at the club were Pawlett, Goodwillie, Logan and McGinn while I am currently negotiating a new deal with Reynolds.

there will probably have to be a tactical change for next season (never done that) as the player i have agreed to sign will have to play in a role that doesnt suit my current tactic. he can play in my current one but to get the best out of him i will need to change.

MAY

Aberdeen 2 (Goodwillie 5, Sinkala 44)
Hamilton Academical 1 (Crawford 84)

--

Aberdeen 3 (Wellington Silva 12, Flood 45, C.Smith 74)
Celtic 3 (Kakitani 43, McGregor 70, Parker 75)

Our first half performance was a joy to behold and we should have been 4 or 5 ahead but it was not to be. If my backups can hold Celtic to a draw then I expect my first team to beat them in the cup final.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup Final
Aberdeen 1 (Goodwillie 26)
Celtic 1 (Parker 3)
(AET Aberdeen win 3-2 on penalties)

THE TREBLE IS OURS!!!!

We got out of jail here. We played ok but Celtic were better and Leali was superb for me in goal as he saved 15 of their 16 shots on target and saved 3 penalties in the shoot-out!!!

SUMMARY

Just 3 games were played during the month and they seen us beat Hamilton and then draw with Celtic twice but in the Scottish Cup final we edged it on penalties to complete the treble.

Not much else is to be said really as I will cover most things in the end of season post which will be done soon!!!!

END OF SEASON POST

Last season we took control of the Scottish scene and this season we managed to assert ourselves even more so by winning the treble and blowing everyone away.

In the league we were pretty much just the same as last term. We scored over 100 goals (less than last season though) and got 6 more points than the previous season. Celticjust squeaked into 2nd place ahead of Hearts and they have to improve big time.

In the League Cup we strolled to the final and strolled in the final against Dundee. We were never tested there to be honest but it was a bit trickier in the Scottish Cup as we had to negotiate our way past Hibs, Hearts and St.Johnstone before beating Celtic on penalties.

Overall, regarding the domestic scene, Celtic have to bring in better players. There are maybe only 2 or 3 players I would take from the other clubs in total but I would expect most of the Celtic side to be better than my players but they arent. Rangers are coming up so we shall see how they improve.

In the Champions League we smashed it in the qualifiers by defeating Vardar (13-1), FC Kobenhavn (8-5) and Basel (9-5) before being put in a nightmare group alongside Bayern, Ajax and Spurs and we only managed to get 2pts. That said we conceded late goals numerous times which could have got us 4 or 5 extra points.

Player wise everyone in the first XI excelled with the only new additions being Sinkala and Leali. To get to the level I aspire to Leali is possibly the only player in my ranks who is good enough to be there (although one more is about to join) and in a team which bombs forward and leaves the defense at risk, he did a fine job.

John Fleck was great when he played and was a pleasant surprise but I didnt have many youngsters good enough to play and that is something I am going to have to address. Traore and Steven Smith got a chance towards the end of the season but that was it.

In other club news at the end of the season, Inverurie Loco Works (my affiliate) won promotion to League 2 to be the first side to take advantage of the pyramid system. Also my U20 side won the league at that level.

PRE-SEASON & JULY FIXTURES

This summer has seen a lot of change as several players came in and out of the club. Overall so far I am delighted with the business that I have done apart from one deal where we have been robbed.

I also made changes to the backroom staff. Eric Black, the former Aberdeen player who scored in the 1983 Cup Winners Cup final, joined the club as a coach while joining the scouting team was Kevin Cruickshank, Daniel Karbassiyoon, Everton Gushiken and Jurgen Kost.

I suppose I better introduce the new guys..............

--

PLAYERS IN

Now to finally reveal my main signing. I agreed a pre-contract deal in January for him and his parent club even refused to sell me him on the cheap immediately. His name? Thorgan Hazard. He will be the main man in my side and in my new tactic will be my AMC.
View attachment 311926

My biggest fee spent so far was the $775,000 that I gave to Hamilton Academical for Stephen Hendrie. With McNaughton ageing I decided that I needed another full back so I brought in the youngster and hopefully he will develop into a decent player.
View attachment 311923

I brought in Barry Bannan on a free to add some depth and technical quality into the midfield area. He should be a standout player in the SPL. Bartosz Bialkowski was also a free signing and he is my new backup keeper.
View attachment 311922View attachment 311921

Now to the invasion of a bunch of Croatians!!!! Coming in for a total of $800,000 from Hajduk Split was Andrija Lisica ($500k) and Damir Prce ($300k). Both should develop into great players and will be involved with the first team this season. Igor Gregorovic and Miljenko Kantolic was brought in on free transfers.
View attachment 311920View attachment 311919View attachment 311918View attachment 311917

Finally I brought in a youngster from Alloa for a pittance.

PLAYERS OUT

So far I have raked in $5.3m in transfer fees. Ryan McGowan left to join Basel for $2.1m but it could rise up to nearly for $4m. I brought in him on a free last summer and he was a backup player so to make such a huge profit was pleasing.

Next out for $1.5m was Wellington Silva and Nathan Sinkala. I was happy to let the former go to Auxerre but not Sinkala. Sinkala was valued at $4.1m but he had a release clause of $1.5m which I had forgotten about and Palermo swooped. Both were signed on a free last summer so once again it was a major profit.

Leaving for $70,000 each was Jamie Ness and Nicky Maynard to Hamilton and Falkirk while Joe Shaughnessy joined Dundee for $5,500 and Jamie Langfield was released.

Out on loan went Shankland to Livingston and Scott McKenna to Inverurie Locos amongst others.

--

NEW TACTIC

From a 4-2-4 I have changed to a 4-2-3-1 to get the best out of Hazard. This meant I had to drop one of my strikers and the unfortunate one is Adam Rooney. The tactical change should also see the best of Babunski when he gets a game in AMC.

JULY FIXTURES

UEFA Champions League 2nd Qualifying Round 1st Leg

Aberdeen 7 (Hazard 1, 70, Fleck 3pen, McGinn 5, 39, Goodwillie 12, 55)
Vardar 0

We played Vardar at this stage last season so they will be sick of us. Hazard scored with his first touch on his debut.

--

UEFA Champions League 2nd Qualifying Round 2nd Leg

Vardar 0
Aberdeen 9 (Postolov og11, Reynolds 13, Goodwillie 38, 46, 90pen, Fleck 48, Wright 70, 74, 85)
(Aberdeen win 16-0 on aggregate)

WOW!!! They had a man sent-off just before half-time and we tortured them afterwards. Scott Wright came off the bench to score a hat-trick.

--

UEFA Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg
Aberdeen 3 (Goodwillie 24, McGinn 60, Reynolds 77)
IFK Goteborg 0

This should be enough to see us through. They had 2 men sent-off.

AUGUST

UEFA Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round 2nd Leg
IFK Goteborg 1 (Fonseca 55)
Aberdeen 6 (Goodwillie 3, 28, McGinn 10, Pawlett 34, Hazard 35, Taylor 62)
(Aberdeen win 9-1 on aggregate)

What a glorious return to Gothenburg this was!!! Never did I expect to win by such a margin but we were on fire in the first half.

--

Hamilton Academical 2 (Crawford 54, Mackie 67)
Aberdeen 7 (Rooney 31pen, 55pen, 69pen, Mackay-Steven 47, Taylor 51, 82, Hazard 72)

A great start to the campaign!!! Rooney scored a hat-trick of penalties as we scored 7 and had a goal disallowed. Jamie Mackie signed for Hamilton and scored on his debut.

--

Aberdeen 2 (Traore 15, Mackay-Steven 35)
Partick Thistle 1 (Stevenson 83)

--

Heart of Midlothian 0
Aberdeen 2 (Goodwillie 40, Wright 90)

Once again Scott Wright came off the bench to score. Methinks more game time is required for him this season.

--

UEFA Champions League Play-off 1st Leg

Anderlecht 1 (Mitrovic 60)
Aberdeen 1 (Pawlett 27)

I am delighted with this result and performance and it leaves us in with a shout of qualifying for the group stage.

--

Aberdeen 3 (Babunski 30, Goodwillie 33, 80pen)
Rangers 2 (Feruz 42, 72)

I am delighted with this result as apart from the fact that it was our first victory against our fiercest rivals, Rangers, but I had such a weakened side out due to me having to rest players for the next match.

--

UEFA Champions League Play-off 2nd Leg
Aberdeen 5 (Traore 22, Goodwillie 38, 53, 81pen, Hayes 61)
Anderlecht 2 (Mitrovic 3, 65)
(Aberdeen win 6-3 on aggregate)

Another great result and performance here. I didnt expect to win so handsomely, especially since I was missing several players, but we smashed in 5 goals to qualify for the group stage.

--

Aberdeen 4 (Babunski 11, Goodwillie 29, Rooney 45, Fleck 81)
Ross County 1 (Tankulic 57)

This win rounds off the month in decent style. Goodwillie picked up a knock but it isnt serious.

SUMMARY

This month was hectic as we played 8 matches including 3 in the Champions League and my first match against Rangers.

In the league we got off to a perfect start by putting 7 past Hamilton. We ended up winning every league fixture but the highlight was the 3-2 victory over Rangers where I had to field a weakened side.

In the Champions League we thumped Goteborg and then drew with Anderlecht before demolishing them at Pittodrie. In the group stage we will face Arsenal, Benfica and Metalist Kharkiv - hopefully we can get 3rd place in the group!!!

Transfer wise I brought in yet another young Croat on a free transfer to bolster my U20 squad.........
View attachment 310772

That was it!!! Despite having $9m to spend I decided to be prudent and have faith in my current roster.

No matter who I am this happens in FM15 - that is why I havent liked this years game. Going Aberdeen meant it would be a challenge in Europe. If you look at my team I have only 3 signings in my starting XI so it is still pretty rediculous!!!

Aberdeen 5 (McGinn 2, 31, Goodwillie 4, Mackay-Steven 38, 56)
Celtic 4 (Mayuka 18, 90, Kakitani 73, 79)

Talk about a gam of two halves!!! We were rampant in the first half but in the 2nd we were pathetic. This time Goodwillie had a goal disallowed.

--

UEFA Champions League Group H
Benfica 3 (Ricardo Goulart 10, Rodrigo 59, 63)
Aberdeen 2 (Goodwillie 47, 50)

We were close to causing an upset here but in the end we failed. I was missing a few players though so that is encouraging.

SUMMARY

This month was pretty decent. We won every match bar one and scored a ton of goals. The highlights were the 6-3 win over Metalist Kharkiv to give us our first win in the Champions League group stage and the 5-4 win over Celtic in the league.

Off the field I managed to get John Fleck to sign a new contract as well as Ryan Jack. I now need to work on Gary Mackay-Steven as his deal ends this season but he doesnt want to talk as yet.

OCTOBER

Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1 (Polworth 49)
Aberdeen 0

Our first dropped points of the league campaign and a first defeat too. We were awful and deserved the defeat.

--

Dundee United 0
Aberdeen 5 (Goodwillie 5, Fleck 36, 86, Hazard 67, Samson og74)

We bounced back from our defeat in fine style here as we thrashed Dundee United here.

--

UEFA Champions League Group H
Arsenal 1 (Welbeck 10)
Aberdeen 1 (Logan 90)

WHAT A GREAT RESULT!!!!!!

Last year we conceded a few last minute goals to deny us some points but it was our turn to get one here as Logan scored a dramatic equaliser.

--

Aberdeen 4 (Pawlett 16, Hazard 45, Wright 75, Fleck 78)
St.Johnstone 0

Another easy victory in the league. Scott Wright continues to impress when given a chance this season.

--

Scottish Communities League Cup Quarter-Final

Aberdeen 2 (Rooney 54, O'Hara 70)
Heart of Midlothian 0

I took a bit of a risk here and rested some of my first teamers but my backups did fine.

SUMMARY

This month started terribly as we lost to Caley Thistle but it steadily improved and we put in some top notch performances to thump Dundee United 5-0 and get a very creditable 1-1 draw away to Arsenal in the Champions League.

We also made it through to the semis of the league cup and we will come up against Dundee in that round and in the Scottish Cup we will kick off our campaign against Arbroath. In the Champions League we lie in 2nd spot in our group with Arsenal somehow being bottom.

I signed a new keeper to act as cover during the month. Davy Roef came in on a free transfer as Bialkowski suffered an injury.

An old and rare Aberdeen fanzine (10 Men Went To Mow) which I used to write articles in. The main man is actually a close friend of mine and from here went on to be a BBC sports journalist and has his own website on Scottish Football!!!!

NOVEMBER

UEFA Champions League Group H
Aberdeen 1 (Rooney 79)
Arsenal 2 (Sanchez 34, Koscielny 56)

This was a close match but ultimately we were not good enough. Both sides had a goal disallowed and we had Reynolds sent-off in the last minute.

--

Aberdeen 2 (Goodwillie 53, 57)
Hamilton Academical 2 (O'Halloran 20, 21)

This is not good enough. We were awful in the first half and while I am pleased that we fought back to get a point we should really be winning these sort of matches.

--

Aberdeen 3 (Taylor 62, Lisica 75, Hazard 85)
Heart of Midlothian 1 (Pallardo 90pen)

The level of performance wasnt here in this match but we managed to get the 3pts which is the main thing.

--

UEFA Champions League Group H
Metalist Kharkiv 0
Aberdeen 1 (Hazard 87)

This is a massive victory. We started well but in the 2nd half we got absolutely battered, shown by the fact that Leali got the man of the match award, but we dug in, kept them out and when Hazard scored it was happy days!!!!

This is how the group looks with 1 game to go..............

We are guaranteed European football after Christmas!!!!

--

William Hill Scottish Cup 4th Round
Aberdeen 3 (Lisica 19, Mackay-Steven 33, 53)
Arbroath 0

The backups and youngsters got a run out here and we won easily. Boring game though.

--

UEFA Champions League Group H
Aberdeen 4 (Mackay-Steven 23, Goodwillie 51, 54, 78)
Benfica 4 (Rodrigo 14, 58, 71, Oliveira 47)

This was a crazy match but ultimately we end it disappointed as Arsenal won to claim 2nd place in the group. Goodwillie goes out of the Champions League having scored 19 goals in the competition!!!

SUMMARY

We werent at our best this month as we slipped up a few times and we werent blowing away teams as we have done in previous months. There was disappointment in the Champions League as we finished in 3rd place in our group and will now go into the Europa League.

I signed a new contract during the month as di Thorgan Hazard and Nicola Leali who have had their minimum release clauses increased from $7.5m to $20m each.

I still need to get Gary Mackay-Steven to sign a new deal though........
