Willie Miller was quite simply captain fantastic. He made more appearances than anyone else for Aberdeen after a successful 18 year career which seen him win 65 Scotland caps and 12 trophies with Aberdeen. He also managed the club for a couple of seasons in the early 90's and was the director of football for a few years this decade.

SEPTEMBER
Ross County 0 Aberdeen 2 (Pawlett 25, Hazard 79)
Another solid win here but it could have been better as Hazard missed a penalty. Isaiah Brown made his debut.
We performed well here and fully deserved our victory. Frank Bagnack made his debut and capped it off with a goal while Pawlett had one disallowed.
--
UEFA Champions League Group D Ajax 1 (Leizinho 50) Aberdeen 0
We might have lost but there is no shame in that as Ajax have some outstanding players such as Jovic, Boye and the goalscorer Leizinho.
--
Aberdeen 2 (Wighton 11, Hazard 56) Heart of Midlothian 0
A decent win but it came at a price as Ryan Jack got injured and will be out for 3 months.
-
Scottish Communities League Cup 3rd Round Aberdeen 4 (Gregorovic 2, Babunski 47, Naismith 60, Djuzel 79)
Dunfermline Athletic 1 (Buchan 58)
I put out my backups here and they cruised to a victory here. Djuzel scored on his debut while Sibanda and Bamba also made their debuts.
--
Dundee 4 (Roberts 32, McGowan 38, Longridge 53, Ferry 90) Aberdeen 4 (McGinn 36, Wighton 64, Kramaric 79, Broadfoot og82)
Our 100% record is over as we failed to hold on with 10 men after my substitute Lewis Macleod got sent-off. This was my 200th game in management.
This month was a success as we managed to bed in my new players and perform on the pitch. Our only failure in the league was when we drew 4-4 with Dundee while in the Champions League we narrowly lost to Ajax 1-0.
My favourite match was the 4-1 win over Dunfermline as I played my youngsters and they excelled. I feel we have some top young talent at the club lurking in the U20s in the likes of Gregorovic, Djuzel, Bamba and Smith.
If I featured Miller in the last post I have to feature his partner in the centre of defence for both club and country. He won 12 trophies with Aberdeen and one of his highlights was a stunning goal in a 4-1 Scottish Cup final win over Rangers. McLeish won 77 caps for Scotland and left to become the player manager of Motherwell.

OCTOBER
UEFA Champions League Group D Aberdeen 6 (Kramaric 9, Hazard 11, 81, Fleck 13pen, Wighton 68, Macleod 77) Dynamo Kiev 1 (Cuevas og83)
WOW!!! We got off to a great start here with 3 quick goals and with the penalty they had a man sent-off. Kiev have some great players so to win so handsomely is very pleasing.
--
St.Johnstone 0 Aberdeen 3 (Wighton 4, Hazard 73, Brown 74)
This is a convincing victory away from home. We are actually struggling for midfield players at the moment and I may have to recall a player that is out on loan or maybe bring in one on a free transfer.
--
Aberdeen 1 (Wighton 49) Celtic 2 (Kakitani 45, McGregor 59)
Our first defeat of the campaign and I am not happy naturally. We deserved a draw but missed too many chances.
--
UEFA Champions League Group D Benfica 5 (Oliveira 3, 32, 45+1, Cristante 43, 45) Aberdeen 4 (Scougall 27, Wighton 44, 51, Brown 74)
This was a thriller but I am left to rue a crazy 5min spell in the first half where we conceded 3 goals. We tried our best to come back but we just fell short.
--
Aberdeen 4 (Scougall 3, Pawlett 40, Wighton 55, Bamba 90) Partick Thistle 0
We got back to winning ways here in convincing style and we could have had a 5th but Hazard missed a penalty.
--
Scottish Communities League Cup Quarter Final St.Mirren 4 (Atajic 50, Feruz 81, 94, 100) Aberdeen 6 (Babunski 5, McGinn 66, 108, 120, Bamba 99, Scougall 118) AET
This was just stupid. 10 goals shared, 2 red cards and a missed penalty. We had this game won and lost numerous times but somehow despite falling behind twice in extra-time we bounced back to win.
We were back to our goalscoring best this month as we netted 24 times in 6 games. That being said we lost our first league match of the season against Celtic and just came up short against Benfica.
We ended the month with a thrilling cup tie against St.Mirren where we came out on top 6-4 after extra-time.
I made a signing during the month as we were short of options in midfield as Macleod and Jack have long term injuries so I brought in the former Manchester United midfielder, Anderson, from West Ham on a free transfer. He made his debut against Celtic and promptly got injured!!! View attachment 306882
Behind Miller and McLeish was the brilliant Jim Leighton. Jim won 10 trophies while at Pittodrie and was a stalwart in goal. 3 stories that go with Jim are when he lost his contact lenses and had to get subbed at half-time in a crucial Scotland match against Wales (the night that Jock Stein died), he almost cut his finger off prior to a cup final with his lawnmower and in his final match he got stretchered off after 3 minutes in the Scottish Cup final which was an awful end to his career. He left Aberdeen to join Man Utd and had spells at Dundee and Hibs before returning and he won 91 Scotland caps. He is Aberdeen's goalkeeping coach both in real life and in this save.

NOVEMBER
Aberdeen 1 (Scougall 12) Dundee United 0
Only 1-0 but w did well here especially since Taylor and Lisica went off injured and Scougall picked up a knock also. I now have 5 CM's injured!!!!
--
UEFA Champions League Group D Aberdeen 4 (Hazard 8, Brown 31, Wighton 38, 71)
Benfica 2 (Ricardo Goulart 16, Rodrigo 40)
WHAT A GREAT RESULT!!!! Going into the game I was missing 7 first teamers and just about all of my U20 squad so to win this so convincingly is a great surprise. This is their 1st defeat in the group stage and gives us half a chance of progressing.
--
Hamilton Academical 3 (Gillespie 39, Ivan Perez 51, Mackie 57) Aberdeen 3 (Brown 16, Cuevas 19, Kramaric 69pen)
I am not happy in throwing away a 2 goal lead but I am pleased that we got a point when it looked as though we were destined to lose. They had a man sent-off late on.
--
Hibernian 0 Aberdeen 5 (Wighton 20, 60, 70, McGinn 24, Fleck 87pen)
This was a stunning performance as we had Thorgan Hazard sent-off very early on but Wighton was unstoppable as he scored 3 and setup 1.
--
UEFA Champions League Group D Aberdeen 2 (Bagnack 18, Brown 83)
Ajax 0
One great performance follows another here as once again we were superb. Wighton had an early goal disallowed and Fleck missed a penalty but this win leaves us top of the group with an away game in Kiev to play............ View attachment 306818
--
This month couldnt have gone much better as we were immense apart from a draw with Hamilton. We especially excelled in the Champions League and got victories over both Benfica and Ajax to top our group and secure European football after Christmas but will it be in the Champions League or Europa League?
I got another feeder side during the month as I picked Omonia Nicosia from Cyprus. They join Walsall, Real Murcia, Steaua Bucharest, Inverurie Locos and Takushima Vortis as affiliated clubs.
Joe Harper is Aberdeen's record goalscorer with 199 goals in 2 spells with the Dons and is known as "The King of the Beach End". Harper won 3 trophies with the club and scored in the 3-1 Scottish Cup victory over Celtic in 1971. He also had spells with Morton, Huddersfield, Everton and Hibs and scored 2 goals in 4 appearances for Scotland.

DECEMBER
William Hill Scottish Cup 4th Round
Dunfermline Athletic 3 (Shankland 29, 60, 81) Aberdeen 6 (Kramaric 36, 45, Anderson 28, Brown 47, 53, Lisica 83)
This was a thriller!!! I played as many backups as I could here and we were made to work hard by the Pars. My former striker, Lawrence Shankland, ripped us to shreds and even had a goal disallowed!
The goals kept flying in here as we rattled in another 5 with Peter Pawlett scoring a hat-trick in the first 20min.
--
UEFA Champions League Group D Dynamo Kiev 2 (Garmash 71pen, Kravets 87) Aberdeen 0
We battled hard here and deserved a draw but it was not to be. However Ajax beat Benfica so we go through as group runners up!!! View attachment 306683
--
Aberdeen 2 (Taylor 61, 71) Ross County 0
We werent at our best here and had to rely on a defender to get us the goals. Jack and Macleod returned from injury.
We got a bit fortunate here as Dundee had 2 goals disallowed.
--
Heart of Midlothian 3 (Pallardo 28pen, Gytkjaer 34, King 90) Aberdeen 2 (Brown 11, Bagnack 81)
This was not good enough. Too many individual players had poor games and we cant even use the excuse of Cuevas getting sent-off as he got his marching orders after they scored the winner.
We werent at the races this month as we stumbled in 3 of our games. Team selection was varied and that might have something to do with it plus Craig Wighton went through a barren spell in front of goal which I suppose was bound to happen with a young striker.
We end the year 10pts clear ahead of Celtic who have a game in hand but I am confident that we will win the title. In the Champions League we will play Bayern Munich so progress wont be forthcoming there while in the domestic cups we will come up against Partick Thistle in both ties.
Eoin Jess was the teen prodigy in the late 80s and early 90s of Scottish football. Blessed with great attacking skills he was a flair player and god knows how far he would have gone had he not broken his leg in a cup tie against Clydebank. He left Pittodrie for a club record $1.75m to join Coventry before returning to the club for a few more seasons. He then headed back south to play for Bradford, Nottingham Forest and Northampton.
Jess won 18 caps for Scotland, scoring twice and in this save is one of my coaches.

JANUARY
Celtic 4 (Olinga 22, Johansen 32, Mayuka 68, Kakitani 90) Aberdeen 4 (Fleck 13pen, Kramaric 54, Brown 58, McGinn 82)
Anytime we score 4 away to Celtic I expect victory but it was not to be here as they got a last minute equaliser.
It was imperative that we won this after our previous matches and we did so easily.
-- Partick Thistle 2 (Lawless 24, Bannigan 62)
Aberdeen 4 (Brown 39, Pawlett 58, 76, 90)
Another 4 goal haul here and a 2nd hat-trick of the season for Peter Pawlett. Their manager, Alan Archibald cant stand me so this was particularly pleasing.
--
Aberdeen 3 (Hazard 18, 58, Jack 49)
Hamilton Academical 2 (Crawford 9, Orlov 35)
2 stunning free-kicks from Thorgan Hazard helped win us the game here as Hamilton caused us a load of problems but we battled through to win.
This was a quiet month in terms of games played but on the pitch there was goals galore as we both scored and conceded a lot highlighted by the 4-4 draw against Celtic.
Isaiah Brown was given a run out up front after Wighton's poor January and he was on fire and has even been linked with a call up to the England squad. It is a pity that I cant afford to sign players such as Brown on a permanent deal.
Regarding transfers, I brought in a new backup keeper in Joshua Smits as he arrived from NEC Nijmegen on a free transfer while I also brought in a young left back from the Ivory Coast, Narcisse Kouakou, also on a free transfer but he doesnt have a work permit. View attachment 306036View attachment 306033
Outgoing was Anderson who went out on loan to FC Kobenhavn while Davy Roef was loaned out to Oostende, Sean Weir to Inverurie Locos and Paul Crawford to Alloa. I rejected several loan bids for Bamba and Lisica while John Souttar wanted to return to Man Utd but I told him where to go!!!
How can a player who only played half a season for Aberdeen be a legend I hear you ask? Quite simple as the Hungarian, Zoltan Varga, is probably the best foreign import Aberdeen has ever had and arguably one of the best that Scottish football has ever had. Signed from Hertha Berlin for $40,000, Varga had unbelievable skill and in one match sat on the ball to entice an opponent forward before going past him. He left the Dons to replace a certain Johann Cruyff at Ajax and went on to play for Borussia Dortmund too.

FEBRUARY
Scottish Communities League Cup Semi-Final Aberdeen 4 (Brown 32, Pawlett 36, 60, Kramaric 85) Partick Thistle 0
Once again we reach the League Cup final as we battered Partick here. Now to do it again..........
--
William Hill Scottish Cup 5th Round Aberdeen 3 (Brown 1, Kramaric 10, 66) Partick Thistle 1 (Mania 47)
.....and we did!!! Kramaric was superb here as was Ryan Jack who assisted 2 goals in the first 10min before going off injured.
--
Aberdeen 3 (Fleck 45, Hazard 54, Pawlett 71) Hibernian 1 (Craig 28)
Hibs are in a relegation battle and we added to their misery here. Both sides had a man sent-off.
--
Aberdeen 6 (Wighton 13, 84, Zaluska og21, Brown 25, Kramaric 38, Bagnack 65) Motherwell 2 (Hutton 62, Higgins 88)
We were on top form here and banged in 6 goals past a hapless Motherwell side. I re-introduced Craig Wighton into the side and he was excellent.
--
Dundee United 1 (Vigurs 63) Aberdeen 2 (Kramaric 40, Reynolds 90)
A last minute winner at Tannadice is always sweet and Mark Reynolds provided it here. The man of the match was their young midfielder, Ali Coote, who I have been interested in for the past season or two.
--
Ross County 1 (McGeouch 21) Aberdeen 3 (Kramaric 65, Hazard 69, Fleck 81pen)
This was a thrilling match as Ross County came out and had a go at us but that risky strategy didnt pay off as my forwards finally clicked into gear in the last half hour.
--
UEFA Champions League 1st Round 1st Leg Aberdeen 1 (Brown 29)
Bayern Munich 1 (Hojbjerg 53)
What a proud day this is for me. My inferior side were outstanding here and in the first half especially we were terrific but like ourselves domestically, Bayern are too good not to score and were always likely to equalise.
This month couldnt have gone much better to be honest. We started it off by dumping Partick out of both of the domestic cups and then went on to record 4 league wins before getting a fantastic draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
It seems as though we are making progress year on year with the measuring stick being our European campaigns. Individually we get stronger each year but we are still a long way off to where I want us to be.
Gordon Strachan was one of Scotland's best midfielders and for a spell in the early 80s was one of the best in Europe. A regular goalscorer and a creator of goals Strachan was the creative spark in the successful side under Alex Ferguson. Signed from Dundee, Strachan won 7 major trophies for Aberdeen before leaving to join Manchester United for $500,000. He is currently the national team manager of Scotland of course and he won 50 caps and scored 5 goals for the Tartan Army.
I dont mind Caley but I cant stand their manager, John Hughes, and he cant stand me so this was a pleasing win.
--
Dundee 2 (Roberts 51, Boyle 77) Aberdeen 3 (Bagnack 18, Hazard 28, Pawlett 55)
Dundee were tough opponents here but we just managed to keep them at bay. Kramaric missed a last minute penalty.
--
William Hill Scottish Cup Quarter-Final Aberdeen 5 (Watson og10, Gregorovic 14, 77, Babunski 48, Petrie og66) Raith Rovers 1 (Campbell 41)
As ever with a cup tie against a lower division side I put out my backups and they were great. I would love to play Gregorovic more to be honest but he is still only 17 so has time on his side.
--
Aberdeen 3 (Djuzel 59, Brown 67, 90) Heart of Midlothian 1 (McGrandles 27)
Deespite dominating we fell behind but I made a triple situation which changed the game as Djuzel and Brown fired in the goals. Craig Wighton had a goal disallowed.
--
Scottish Communities League Cup Final Aberdeen 4 (Wighton 5, 14, 63, Kramaric 85)
Hamilton Academical 1 (O'Halloran 10)
Another cup final, another cup final against Hamilton and another win. Wighton has been threatening a performance like this for a while and he came through when required.
--
UEFA Champions League 1st Round 2nd Leg Bayern Munich 2 (Hojbjerg 37, Gaudino 57) Aberdeen 2 (Fleck 45pen, Kramaric 50) (Agg 3-3, Aberdeen win on away goals)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cant believe that we have knocked out the mighty Bayern Munich. Unbelievable.
I cant remember many better months than this one as we won both the title and the league cup but the highlight of course was knocking Bayern Munich out of the Champions League on away goals which is an amazing achievement.
In the League Cup final we demolished Hamilton thanks to a Craig Wighton hat-trick while we rounded off the month with a battering of Celtic which clinched the title. Some of my players were rewarded with their first international call ups as Isaiah Brown made his England debut and Wighton and Leali were called up but not played.
I got a decent player in the youth intake and he made his debut during the month......... View attachment 305225
Oh and our reward for beating Bayern Munich?? Barcelona!!!!!!!!!!!
Russell Anderson is the current club captain and the most experienced player in the current squad. The centre half played through a turbulent period in his first ten years with the club before leaving to join Sunderland for $1m. After an injury hit spell down south he returned to the club on a free transfer and he lifted the League Cup last season becoming the 6th Aberdeen captain to lift some silverware. He has also won 11 caps for Scotland.

APRIL
UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final 1st Leg Barcelona 4 (Cartabia 12, Messi 33pen, 58, 66pen) Aberdeen 1 (Kramaric 24)
There is no shame in this defeat as they are on another planet compared to us. Two penaltes added a bit of gloss to the scoreline which was a shame.
--
St.Johnstone 3 (Scobbie 37, Emmanuel-Thomas 66, Kane 90) Aberdeen 4 (Gregorovic 19, Souttar 22, Djuzel 24, Easton og45)
With the title won the backups came out and they were fantastic in the first half but the 2nd half was terrible but a win is a win I suppose.
--
UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final 2nd Leg Aberdeen 3 (Pawlett 67, Hazard 69, Gregorovic 70) Barcelona 3 (Messi 40, Neymar 63, Pedro 79) (Barcelona win 7-4 on aggregate)
We almost got another fantastic victory here but it was not to be. The game was turned on its head when we scored 3 in as many minutes as Thorgan Hazard took the game to Barca.
--
Aberdeen 1 (Scougall 62) Dundee 1 (Alston 54)
We should have won this game but we just couldnt take our chances which was unlike us.
--
William Hill Scottish Cup Semi-Final Dundee 1 (Roberts 86) Aberdeen 2 (Pawlett 2, Bamba 119) AET
Once again Dundee proved to be tricky opponents but we just edged it thanks to Bamba's late winner in extra-time.
The two ties against Barcelona were the main fature of this month as we lost the first leg but performed valiantly in the 2nd leg. In the league we are just going through the motions and I am playing my backups to give them some game time.
One piece of bad news was an injury to Igor Gregorovic as he will be out for 6 months which is a shame as he was just about to get a run in the side. Didier Bamba now has a chance instead.
Zero was a fans favourite at Pittodrie and the Moroccan international was incredibly skillful. He famously wore the number 0 on his back and if he had better body strength he would have been playing for one of Europe's greats as his ball skills were incredible. Tragedy happened though after he left Pittodrie as he died in a car crash aged 27.

MAY
Heart of Midlothian 4 (Frdijonsson 13, 53pen, Miller 50, Gytkjaer 79) Aberdeen 5 (Wighton 45, 46, 58, Babunski 55, Scougall 56)
This was a thrilling match which wnt crazy in the 2nd half as 6 goals were scored in the first 13min of it. Ultimately we won thanks to a hat-trick from Craig Wighton.
--
Aberdeen 0 Dundee United 2 (Dow 29, Armstrong 34)
I dont know how we lost this as we had plenty of attempts but we just couldnt score. Smith got sent-off late on. I am not happy.
--
Celtic 3 (Jensen 43, 58, Olinga 74)
Aberdeen 1 (Scougall 7)
Two defeats in a row now as my backups struggled to assert themselves. Pretty ****** off with how we have ended the league campaign but I feel it is important to give my backups a run out.
--
William Hill Scottish Cup Final Aberdeen 2 (Brown 61, Taylor 86) Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1 (Polworth 90)
A treble of trebles was secured here as we defeat Caley Thistle here. The crucial moment came on the hour mark when Ryan Christie missed a penalty for them and then we ran up the park to take the lead.
This month was pretty poor as my team just went through the motions. Sure we beat Hearts in a 9 goal thriller but we then lost out to Dundee United and Celtic. I played my backups to give them a chance to impress and out of everyone I think Djuzel is a top prospect.
In the cup final the big guns came back and we just managed to beat Inverness to get us a 4th successive Scottish Cup and nobody has ever won 4 in a row before.
Season number 4 is over and we ended it with our 3rd successive treble plus we managed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after defeating the mighty Bayern Munich.
To be honest the title was just a procession as we stormed it and won the title before the split happened and I didnt even realise we had won it until after the game. We ended the season pretty poorly however as our backups slipped up against Dundee United and Celtic.
In the cups we stormed into the finals and thumped Hamilton in the league cup before sneaking past Inverness Caley in the Scottish Cup. In the Champions League we made it to the group stage and qualified ahead of Benfica and Dynamo Kiev before knocking out Bayern Munich on away goals before losing out to Barcelona.
Progress has certainly been made in the European front but now the challenge is to kick on.
Individually my players on the whole did well. Hazard and Bagnack were the pick of the bunch while Wighton, Brown and Kramaric scored the vast amount of our goals. There will be changes in the summer but I have no deals in place as yet.

AROUND SCOTLAND
Hamilton sack Felix Magath
St.Johnstone join Hibs in being relegated to the Championship
Sold him to Bolton for an initial $2m last August as with Brown, Kramaric and Wighton in the first team squad and with Gregorovic and then Bamba coming through I thought it was best to cash in
