DECEMBER

Partick Thistle 1 (Jones 34)
Aberdeen 3 (Pawlett 6, Goodwillie 36, Fleck 50pen)

--

Rangers 2 (Gallagher 39, Wallace 45)
Aberdeen 5 (Pawlett 6, 9, 16pen, 76, Hazard 11)

VICTORY AT CASTLE GREYSKULL!!!!

Aberdeen hadnt won at Ibrox since the early 90s so this is a memorable victory, especially for Peter Pawlett as he helped himself to 4 goals.

--

Aberdeen 3 (Goodwillie 37, Bruce 42, 77)
Dundee 2 (Roberts 4, 44)

I was missing a few players here so I was pleased that we came away with the points. Ben Bruce is close to getting a call up to the first team squad and impressed here.

--

Ross County 2 (Barr 36, Boyce 63)
Aberdeen 3 (Fleck 2pen, 39pen, Goodwillie 57pen)

Thanks to the referee here as we got 3 penalties and converted all 3 to get 3 points!! Hazard got injured and is out for 3 months though.

--

St.Mirren 0
Aberdeen 3 (Pawlett 74, Rooney 83, Jack 90)

We left it late here but got there in the end against the side who is cut adrift at the bottom of the table.

--

Aberdeen 1 (Babunski 32)
Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1 (Polworth 88)

**** YOU LIAM POLWORTH!!!! It was he who scored the goal that beat us earlier in the season and he denied us the win here too.

SUMMARY

Apart from the last match this was a decent month. We thumped Rangers 5-2 and picked up some more wins in some tight matches which sees us end the calendar year 11pts clear at the top of the table.

The only negative thing that happened during the month was the injury to Thorgan Hazard as he is instrumental in my tactic. I may sign a better backup option but having said that Babunski and Bruce should do a job.

I signed a new contract during the month and in the Europa League we will face Sporting Lisbon which should be a tricky tie.

JANUARY

Celtic 5 (Fridjonsson 1, 21, 53pen, 82, Filipovic 37)
Aberdeen 4 (McGinn 23, Fleck 51pen, Taylor 77, Mackay-Steven 90)

I have never heard of Holmbert Fridjonsson before and I sure as **** hope I dont hear about him again!!!!

--

Aberdeen 3 (Goodwillie 13, 20, McGinn 56)
Dundee United 0

We get back to winning ways here thankfully and a clean sheet is always a nice extra bonus too.

--

St.Johnstone 1 (Mackay 65pen)
Aberdeen 3 (McGinn 33, Goodwillie 89, Scougall 90)

How we won this I dont know. At 1-1 we had Reynolds sent-off and I went 3 at the back to go for the win and it paid off somehow.

--

Hamilton Academical 5 (Cripps 10, 71, O'Hallolran 35, 81, Muirhead 90pen)
Aberdeen 5 (Pawlett 36, Scougall 49, Gregorovic 68, 82, McGinn 83)

**** OFF!!!! This was a crazy game and I thought we had won it when McGinn scored but Traore got sent-off and 2min later they got a penalty which cost us dear. Gregorovic became our youngest ever scorer here.

--

Scottish Communities League Cup Semi-Final
Aberdeen 2 (Wright 76, Rooney 85)
Dundee 0

This game was so boring and heading towards extra-time until I threw on young Scott Wright and he turned the game in our favour.

SUMMARY

This was a very strange month. Our performances were on the whole, very poor. Evidence of that is the fact that we conceded 5 goals in a game twice!! Sure we have a big lead at the top of the table and have made it to the league cup final but I think things are going a bit stale.

With that in mind I splashed a bit of cash on deadline day!!! Firstly for $950,000 I brought in Jason Naismith from St.Mirren. He will be cover for the right back slot as I will probably be loaning out Steven Smith next season.
View attachment 309413

I then spent $425,000 to sign yet another Croatian in the shape and form of Andrej Kramaric. My DoF arranged this deal and I went ahead with it as it seems like a bargain. I actually agreed to sign him last season but I had second thoughts. We will make a large profit on him methinks!!!
View attachment 309411

Earlier in the month I brough in Stefan Scougall from Sheffield United. I signed him on a pre-contract deal but paid his old club $240,000 to bring him in immediately.
View attachment 309410

I also agreed to sign another lad on a pre-contract deal which will be announced at the end of the season.

Leaving the club to join Charlton Athletic was Andrew Considine and Kevin McNaughton for a total fee of $167,000. Both were out of contract in the summer and were wanting regular first team football.

FEBRUARY

Aberdeen 3 (Pawlett 22, Babunski 41, Kramaric 80)

Rangers 2 (Good 27, Boyd 73)

Debuts for Aberdeen dont get much better than scoring the winner against Rangers so Kramaric will be delighted here. I had moved him to the LW when he scored too.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup 5th Round
Brechin City 1 (Barr 72)
Aberdeen 4 (Mackay-Steven 22, Babunski 31, Kramaric 42, 85)

--

UEFA Europa League 1st Round
Sporting Lisbon 2 (Slavchev 36, Gauld 90)
Aberdeen 2 (Babunski 39, Fleck 54pen)

I am naturally delighted with the scoreline and naturally annoyed at conceding a last minute equaliser. However I am absolutely livid that David Goodwillie and Adam Rooney both had goals disallowed. That better not be costly.

--

Heart of Midlothian 1 (Walker 45)
Aberdeen 0

I dont know how we managed to lose this game as we battered them but we just couldnt score no matter how hard we tried.

--

UEFA Europa League 1st Round
Aberdeen 0
Sporting Lisbon 0
(Agg: 2-2, Aberdeen win on away goals)

What a time to get an extremely rare nil nil draw!!! This was an even game but neither side scored so we sneak through.

--

Aberdeen 5 (Hamill og6, Hayes 21, Pawlett 36, McGinn 39, Taylor 75)
Ross County 1 (R.Quinn 64)

After failing to score in each of our last 2 games we were due somebody a hiding and unfortunately for Ross County it was them on the receiving end.

--

Aberdeen 4 (Kramaric 29, Reynolds 45, Pawlett 56, Fleck 90pen)
St.Mirren 0

We could have scored 9 or 10 here such was our dominance and we even missed a penalty.

SUMMARY

This month was full of big games. We kicked it off by beating Rangers at Pittodrie thanks to Kramaric's late winning debut goal. We then progressed in the Scottish Cup before edging out Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League after drawing twice. There was a defeat aginst Hearts but we finished the month with 2 big victories.

Our reward for knocking out Sporting Lisbon is a tie against Spanish cracks Valencia so I doubt that we will progress further there.

Finally, I was offered the chance to manage Algeria but I rejected it as I didnt fancy it to be honest despite the fact that they are competing in the Confederations Cup in the summer.

MARCH

UEFA Europa League 2nd Round 1st Leg
Valencia 4 (Piatti 33, Roberto 35, 64, Vinicius Araujo 53)
Aberdeen 1 (Goodwillie 11)

**** it!!! We started off on fire here as we scored early and couldve added to it but then their superior quality came through and they won pretty easily in the end. Both sides had late goals disallowed.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup Quarter-Final

Dundee 0
Aberdeen 0

This game was terrible although our cause wasnt helped due to Kramaric, Pawlett and McGinn having to go off injured.

--

UEFA Europa League 2nd Round 2nd Leg

Aberdeen 2 (Goodwillie 28, 57pen)
Valencia 0
(Valencia win 4-3 on aggregate)

SO CLOSE!!!!! To win this match is a great achievement as I fielded an under-strength side. We almost won it right at the end but Goodwillie's shot hit the crossbar. Hazard returned from injury here.

--

Scottish Communities League Cup Final

Aberdeen 3 (Goodwillie 12, Kramaric 71, Fleck 86)
Hamilton Academical 0

We retain the League Cup here as we defeat Hamilton easily enough. We had a few players out and picked up a few knocks during the match also so I am happy.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup Quarter-Final Replay
Aberdeen 2 (Fleck 25, Naismith 96)
Dundee 1 (McGinn 35)
AET

Yes we won but I dont know how as we had 3 players taken off injured, 5 booked and 2 men sent-off for 2nd bookable offences as we ended the match with 8 men!!!!

--

Aberdeen 6 (Kramaric 3, 28, 34, 89, Wright 74, Taylor 90)
Celtic 3 (McGregor 7, Whittaker 18, O'Connell 38)

Last time it was 5-4 to Celtic but we edged the 9 goal thriller this time thanks to a superb performance. Kramaric was deadly in front of goal while Hazard was pulling all the strings. This puts us 7pts clear with 3 games in hand!!!

--

Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1 (Christie 64)
Aberdeen 5 (Kramaric 2, 23, 43, Jack 9, Fleck 30)

Another big win and another hat-trick for Andrej Kramaric!!

--

Aberdeen 2 (Kramaric 43, Mackay-Steven 49)

Partick Thistle 3 (Hanlon 10, Doolan 74, Forrester 90)

This game came just 2 days after the previous one so we werent going to be on top form. That being said we had an early goal disallowed, a man sent-off and finished the match with 9 men when Mackay-Steven went off injured.

SUMMARY

What a month this was!!! We had an exciting tie in the Europa League against Valencia where we narrowly lost out, we won the League Cup by beating Hamilton, scraped past Dundee in the Scottish Cup and in the league we thumped Celtic and Caley before slumping against Partick.

Injuries and suspensions were coming thick and fast and my team selections varied from game to game. That being said Andrej Kramaric scored 8 goals in the last 3 games as he is settling into life in Scotland very nicely indeed.

I still cant get Gary Mackay-Steven to sign a new deal so it looks as though he will be off at the end of the season while I have agreed to sell Ange Traore for $500,000. I have offered new deals to Logan, McGinn, Pawlett and Babunski though.

The youth intake was ****!!!!

More dropped points here and I am ****** off as we threw away a 2 goal lead. Having said that we didnt deserve to win.

--

Dundee 1 (McGowan 61)
Aberdeen 1 (Kramaric 43)

3 games without a win now!!!! This game came 2 days after the previous one and the next one is in 3 days time............

--

Aberdeen 5 (Hazard 24, Kramaric 45, 49, 57, Fleck 71)
St.Johnstone 4 (Davidson 10, Holt 14, Anderson 22, Nyman 82)

WHAT A COMEBACK!!!! We quickly went 3-0 down as Jason Naismith had an absolute nightmare for us. We got 2 back and then at half-time I put Steven Smith on for Naismith and he immediately set up the equaliser. Kramaric went on to complete his 3rd hat-trick in his last 6 games.

--

William Hill Scottish Cup Semi-Final

Celtic 2 (Olinga 19, Mayuka 39)
Aberdeen 4 (Pawlett 15, Hazard 34, Whittaker og48, Goodwillie 90)

Into the final we go here as once again ourselves and Celtic serve up a thriller. I actually thought that we would lose here beforehand.

--

Celtic 3 (Taylor og7, Olinga 18, Kakitani 67)
Aberdeen 1 (Pawlett 17)

We didnt deserve to lose this but lose we did. If we won here he would have claimed the title so I am a bit annoyed but we won the more important clash in our previous game.

--

Aberdeen 2 (Hazard 12, 49)
Dundee United 1 (Boero 37)

We should have scored 5 or 6 here but Kramaric is missing a load of chances just now. We won though so I am happy!

SUMMARY

Results wise this month was pretty poor as we only won half of our games but we are almost there with regards of winning the title and claimed a place in the Scottish Cup final where we will come up against Dundee United.

A few things to note player wise - Andrej Kramaric is level with Goodwillie as our top scorer in the league such has his impact been since joining in January while despite starting in all but one of our games Mackay-Steven still wants out.

Cammy Smith has agreed to join Dundee at the end of the season on a free transfer.

MAY

Heart of Midlothian 3 (McHattie 22, McKay 68, Gytkjaer 72)
Aberdeen 3 (Pawlett 19, Kramaric 45, Fleck 53)

A poor result but it was enough for us to retain the title.

3 TIMES IN A ROW NOW!!!!!!!!!!

--

Aberdeen 3 (Goodwillie 27, Babunski 54, S.Smith 83)
Inverness Caledonian Thistle 0

The title is secure so the backups came in and did a fine job. I gave Paul Crawford, Miljenko Kantolic and Kieran Thomson (at 15, Thomson is our new youngest ever player) their debuts here.

Aberdeen 3 (McGinn 29, Fleck 98pen, Babunski 109)
Dundee United 3 (Dow 16, Kingsley 99, Kerr 118)
(AET Aberdeen win 6-5 on penalties)

We did this the hard way as despite having 29 attempts we had to go to a penalty shoot-out which almost went all the way itself as Leali scored the winning penalty for us.

Another treble is complete!!!

SUMMARY

This month was mostly about going through the motions in the league as we wrapped up the title before coming out on top against Dundee United in a thrilling cup final to complete our 2nd successive treble.

I will go into more detail in the upcoming end of season post.

Off the field I managed to get Real Murcia as a feeder side while our budget for next season has been set at just over $4m.

END OF SEASON REVIEW

Our 2nd treble in a row was secured this season but I am not ecstatic. We only got 87 points which is our lowest out of our 3 seasons so far but on the other hand we scored 118 goals which is our highest tally so far.

Last season we won the league before the split but not this season although it was never in doubt as we surged into an early, unassailable lead. The league cup was captured as we beat Hamilton again in the final while in the Scottish Cup we defeated Celtic in the semis before beating Dundee United in the final on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

We improved greatly in Europe as we finished 3rd in our Champions League group stage to get into the Europa League where we edged past Sporting Lisbon before narrowly getting beat by Valencia. In individual games we defeated Anderlecht, Metalist Kharkiv and Valencia while drawing with Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon.

Regarding the squad it is pretty hard to select a standout player as we were pretty consistant. John Fleck was immense as he scored over 20 goals from midfield, Thorgan Hazard was immense but his season was broken up by injury while David Goodwillie was unstoppable until Andrej Kramaric came in to take over the mantle and he scored for fun.

As for next season? Well I hope to strengthen the squad and have another decent campaign in Europe. We will see what bargains come along during the summer.

PRE-SEASON & JULY FIXTURES

This pre-season wasnt that great to be honest as we had a few disappointments. Although having said that I broke the clubs record transfer fee (both paid out and incoming) and overall I feel my squad is stronger than last season.

Mainly due to our performances in Europe, Scotland have been given an extra Champions League spot for next season while in the summer Stefan Scougall and John Fleck won their first caps for Scotland.

So without further ado I will introduce my new signings so far.......

--

PLAYERS IN

Firstly I broke the clubs transfer record to bring in Craig Wighton from Dundee for $1.6m. I have been trying to get him since I arrived and he is a player with great potential who Ihopefully will develop into a top player.
View attachment 307743

I spent $400,000 on Siphiwe Mchunu. I had agreed to sign him ages ago and I think he will be a top keeper. He doesnt have a work permit though so I have loaned him out to my feeder side Real Murcia.
View attachment 307741

On free transfers I brought in Cristian Cuevas from Chelsea and Lewis Macleod from Brentford. Cuevas will be my new left back and should be immense in Scotland and be more than competent in Europe. I had agreed to sign Macleod in January on a pre-contract deal and hopefully he can improve with us the same way John Fleck and Stefan Scougall have done.
View attachment 307740View attachment 307739

I brought John Souttar back to Scotland on loan from Manchester United for a $300,000 fee. He should be first choice but I will stick with Taylor and Reynolds as they havent put a foot wrong in the last 3 seasons.
View attachment 307737

Finally I brought in Grant Allison from Cowdenbeath for $86,000 and Stuart Sibanda from Raith Rovers on a free to add to my U20 squad.

PLAYERS OUT

The biggest disappointment was the loss of Damir Prce to Feyenoord for a record $6.5m. Feyenoord tabled a few bids so I offered him a new deal but when they came up with his release fee he had to go and annoyingly I had to give his former club $1.2m of the fee.

Adam Rooney left to join Charlton Athletic for $250,000. He made 137 appearances under me and scored an impressive 91 goals. He wasnt happy and his contract was up at the end of the season so I let him go for a modest fee.

Another loss was expected but disappointing all the same as Gary Mackay-Steven (72/17) left. He is yet to sign for a team so I may try and get him back. Also leaving on a free was Cammy Smith (Dundee), Lawrence Shankland and Bartosz Bialkowski (Hearts).

Barry Bannan left to go to Sundowns for $300,000 while Ange Traore joined Dijon for $500,000.

Out on loan went Ben Bruce and Siphiwe Mchunu (Real Murcia), Kevin O'Hara (Ross County), Miljenko Kantolic (Steaua Bucharest) as well as a couple of youth players.

A decent first game to the season that bodes well for the future. Wighton and Souttar came off the bench to score on their debuts.

AUGUST

UEFA Champions League Champions 3rd Qualifying Round 1st Leg
Aberdeen 2 (Fleck 45pen, Kramaric 56)
Crvena Zvezda 1 (Sreckovic 90)

This was almost a complete performance until we gave away a sloppy goal in injury time which better not cost us!

--

Partick Thistle 0
Aberdeen 2 (Kramaric 57, Fleck 70pen)

We werent at our best here but we got the win anyways.

--

UEFA Champions League Champions 3rd Qualifying Round 2nd Leg

Crvena Zvezda 3 (Despotovic 52, 87, Schwertfeger 55)
Aberdeen 2 (Kramaric 6, Fleck 22pen)
(Agg: 4-4, Aberdeen win on away goals)

I am pleased that we got through to the next round but I am not happy at throwing away a 2 goal lead.

--

Aberdeen 1 (Hazard 36)
Hamilton Academical 0

--

Dundee United 3 (Telfer 31, Boero 56, Dow 71)
Aberdeen 4 (Kramaric 33, Fleck 39, 54pen, Pawlett 58)

We are really struggling in central defence and the 2 I played here were only 85% fit so to cling on to this win is great. They had an equaliser disallowed.

--

Aberdeen 1 (Hazard 4)
Motherwell 0

We should have won by a lot more here but we just didnt take our chances.

--

UEFA Champions League Champions Playoff 1st Leg
Rosenborg 2 (Kamper 17, 87)
Aberdeen 2 (McGinn 50, Kramaric 90)

A decent result and to get 2 away goals is helpful so I am confident heading into the 2nd leg.

--

Aberdeen 4 (Wighton 24, 68, Fleck 63, Scougall 81)

Hibernian 0

A decent win as we thump a poor Hibs side. We had Ash Taylor sent-off in the 2nd half.

--

UEFA Champions League Champions 2nd Leg
Aberdeen 5 (Kramaric 1, Hazard 4, 84, Reynolds 28, Wighton 47)
Rosenborg 1 (Paulsen Vatshaug)
(Aberdeen win 7-3 on aggregate)

This is a great result and performance which sees us stroll into the group stages.

SUMMARY

This month was hectic as we had 9 matches in both the league and UEFA Champions League and had several transfer deals happening. In the end we started off with 5 wins out of 5 in the league (somehow), qualified for the Champions League group stage as well as breaking our record transfer fee and selling 2 of my stalwarts in the first team!!!!

In the Champions League we have been drawn in a group alongside Ajax (again), Benfica (again) and Dynamo Kiev so I would like to think we could avoid finishing bottom.

As for the players sold I loaned out a couple and then agreed to sell Jonny Hayes to Hearts for $1.5m. Despite being a winger being played at left back he excelled and scored 7 goals in 146 appearances for me.

David Goodwillie is the other one who left as he joined Bolton Wanderers for an initial $2m which could rise up to $3.5m. He scored an amazing 115 goals in 151 games for me but with the arrivals of Kramaric and Wighton I thought it was best to cash in.

Now to the incomings. My new record signing is Frank Bagnack who arrived from Barcelona B for $1.7m. He looks as though he has the ability to be the best defender in Scotland and should be a massive player for me. The only question is who does he replace - Reynolds or Taylor?
View attachment 307298

Isaiah Brown was brought in from Chelsea on loan for $300,000 as I felt I needed another player who could play on the right wing. He will be a backup but I wouldnt be surprised if he forced himself into the first team picture.
View attachment 307297

Finally I brought in a young striker from the Ivory Coast as Didier Bamba arrived from ASEC for a fee of $96,000. I then realised that I hadnt signed a Croatian for a while so I brought in Toni Djuzel on a free transfer.
View attachment 307296View attachment 307295

Bamba, Brown and Djuzel were brought in on transfer deadline day.
