Arsenal Report - Zonal Marking for Gooners

Yeah, I know her, her site is awesome!

Indeed it is :) That's why it's so great having this collaboration - she does brilliant graphic and coding work and has terrific knowledge of all things Arsenal!

Arsenal were back to Premier League action today against Sunderland, and Arsenal Report will have a full report within 24 hours of the final whistle.

Lots to talk about, with the Diaby-Denilson axis of poo, Wilshere's advanced position and Koscielny's Vermaelen-esque attacking runs.

Today's report will be slightly late, aiming for 7-8pm...

But for now;

We have updated our stats page with the Sunderland match + new arrows to indicate difference from last average: http://bit.ly/h9aoMh

Talking of which, an interesting statistic is that Arsenal have won 9 out of 10 matches (1 draw) when Denilson has come on as a sub this season, but only 2 out of 5 when he's started.

Good work so far, liking it. KUTGW.

Cheers man. Leave a comment if you found something particularly interesting.. We don't write just to say "This is what we think, accept it"! We're always up for a bit of discussion about the game and the tactical side of things..

Random Denilson fact from today's article: he's had a 100% passing accuracy on three separate occasions this season. Guess the fixtures?

Gutted..

BUT - It brings me to another topic to plug AR some more ;)

Question 1.

Bendtner or Chamakh?

Question 2.

Who should AW play in midfield? (Assuming Fabregas is fit, and Wilshere starts, that basically leaves who should play Song's position and who should play wide)

Arsenal Report | Facebook Discussions | Who should replace Alex Song? http://on.fb.me/gBJnqU

Ooh question time :p

Question 1.

Bendtner or Chamakh?

Hmm, toughie. Bendtner's hat-trick vs. the mighty Orient probably just about convinces me he's more of a threat than Chamakh - he had a good start to the season but recently he's been pants.

Question 2.

Who should AW play in midfield? (Assuming Fabregas is fit, and Wilshere starts, that basically leaves who should play Song's position and who should play wide)

Again, it brings up the topic of recent performances, and neither Denilson or Diaby have been convincing enough for me. Diaby is more of a whole player than Denilson in my opinion, so naturally I'd choose him.

I'd absolutely love it if we put this to bed. Love it.

New post - Barcelona v Arsenal Preview: Restrict Messi = Proceed To Next Round http://t.co/Arz1TdP - player impact in the Barca camp

Touching on:

- Messi's unpredictability.

- The rather more predictable focus on Barcelona's right flank.

- Villa's movement off the ball.

- Diaby or Denilson? Who should replace Alex Song?

Arsenal’s Probable Line-Up

Arsene Wenger will keep his faith in Wojciech Szczesny, even though the goalkeeper has been slightly nervous in the matches following the first leg win over Barcelona. The defensive line will be the same as in the first leg as well, but with Bacary Sagna coming back from suspension to replace Emmanuel Eboue. With Cesc Fabregas fit to play, Jack Wilshere will revert to his preferred position as a left central midfielder, with the first question mark being about who will replace the injured Alex Song – Diaby or Denilson?

Samir Nasri and Andrei Arshavin will flank Fabregas, and the second question mark is regarding whether or not Robin van Persie is fit to play in the central forward role – surprisingly Van Persie was today included in the provisional 19-man squad to face Barcelona. What this means is anyone’s guess, but Wenger wouldn’t include him if he wasn’t fit to play at least 20-30 minutes. We might very well see Van Persie tomorrow in some capacity, several weeks ahead of schedule.

Compared to Nicklas Bendtner, Marouane Chamakh has more overall quality, and follows similar movement patterns to Van Persie – dropping deep and acting as a second attacking midfielder at times. But Bendtner has more flair and is able to do the unexpected on a good day. For this match, Chamakh is a better starting choice in my opinion, while Van Persie or Bendtner should come on as a substitute in the last 25-30 minutes if needed.

Admittedly - that didn't quite go to plan..

BUT - Arsenal Report will have an article up by about 9pm (hopefully), complete with an IP and some graphics, and the two normal articles - Main section, and Second OP.

We're launching a competition on twitter!

We've run out of ideas, so we're giving you the chance to come up with a suitable tagline for Arsenal Report (That's the bit in small, white writing below the main bit on the Header)...

It has to be less than 50 characters, so send your entries to [email protected] - for more information, follow Arsenal Report on twitter - @arsenalreport ..

I feel like Blue Peter, so that's enough from me - remember to read the latest article if you haven't already on why Arsenal fell at the hands (or rather feet) of Barcelona, Lionel Messi and Massimo Busacca.

I'll be doing a Live Blog for today's FA Cup clash against Man Utd - updating on all things tactical as usual! Unfortunately, you'll have to refresh the page every couple of minutes, but it's worth it! ;) http://www.arsenalreport.com/live-reports/

Today we're starting a tagline competition for the website, 1st prize is a Savile Rogue cashmere Arsenal scarf. You can submit your tagline on Twitter (mentioning @arsenalreport), or you can even submit it in this thread. The length limit for the tagline is 50 characters, and the competition will end on March 25th (in two weeks). We'll use all the good ones on the site, but only one will win a prize. Go!

Arsenal Report will be publishing an article today about why Arsenal haven't won a trophy in 6 years - explaining what went "wrong", and how Wenger's 10 year plan has worked out.

I'll link when it's done but one of the most important factors goes back to 1999 when Stadium plans were announced after HIghbury's capacity was significantly reduced (all-seater) and why as a result of that, having Wenger at the helm as been key.

Yesterdays 2-0 loss against Manchester United meant Arsenal have now dropped out of three competitions in the span of only 14 days, which of course means a massive blow to morale within the team. But is there any reason to panic, or start doubting Wenger’s approach and philosophy? I say not and here's why...

What a fantastic read the "why we haven't one a trophy for 6 years" was.

Really informative and i learned a few things

Well Done, Joss and friends ! :)

Just read over it and left a big comment, if you wouldn't mind having a look at it Joss I'd be grateful.

EDIT: I read the comment again - it's worded a tad incorrectly as I'm majorly tired :p

Continually pressing my father to have a look at the site. Think it's something he'd enjoy.

Remember to send us your entries for the Tagline Competition before the 25th March, and be in with a chance (if you're funny enough) to win the Savile Rogue Arsenal scarf up for grabs.

Also, I should be doing another Live Blog this weekend, and the RSS feed is looking rather nice even if I do say so myself. Unfortunately, we can't make the Interactive Pitch work, though so you'll have to download IE9 or another browser to see it (It's worth it ;))

Hehe here are my favourites so far:

"Massimo Busacca’d"
"Real Gooners don’t date Spurs fans"
"No, you may not see our Thierry Henry tattoo"
"Now with 300% more interactive clickable things!"
"Where buying young boys equates to fiscal prudence"
"Harry Redknapp's worst nightmare"

NEW POST: Press Conference Analysis: Wenger talks about injuries and WBA | Arsenal Report http://t.co/sNlkPJy

We've tried something a little different this time, a sort of preview based on guess work from AW's press conference. Hope you like it, give us some feedback in this thread, or preferably on the blog =)

We've also had a bit of a facelift, so the landing page looks slightly different (we think it's cooler) and includes some social networking icons, so be sure to follow us on facebook and/or twitter to tell us what you think and keep up to date.
