Fernández has been great so far. Great defensive midfielder, and I've played him in defence too. Averaging 7 tackles a game, with an 80% pass completion rate. He's racked up 15 yellow cards in those games.

I currently have jones and laporte cb in my save need a new cm though

Young Villains Success.
Petty leads the Young Villains to more success in 2020.
18th April 2020

What a season it has been for the Young Villains, led by the talented Ben Petty. Petty, who has managed the Under 18s since 2014, has masterminded an incredibly success season for the young guns, and will look to continue building the blocks of success at Villa Park.

"The key, I think, to building a successful club is installing a winning mentality into your young players," said Petty. "Get them used to winning, and that spirit and desire will develop as they grow. Hopefully this will lead into the senior team, and we can expect more trophies to come our way."

Petty led the Under 18 side to their second consecutive Under 18s league win. Since the conception of the new format ready for the 2015/16 season, only three sides have won the competition: Chelsea (15/16), Arsenal (16/17, 17/18), and now Aston Villa (2018/19, 2019/2020).

The New Format

The Youth League has changed drastically over the years. In the last five seasons, the FA have implemented a new format, which sees 24 of the best academy sides from across the country compete in two separate leagues based on geographical location. The 12 most Northern sides play each other twice, with the 12 most Southern teams also playing each other twice. The top four teams from each division then play each other once, to decide the overall Youth League winners.

Villa, who competed in the Southern band, won a staggering 20 of their 22 group games, and scored 94 goals along the way. Whilst the Under 18s remained undefeated, they powered their way into the deciding final group, where they lost their only league game of the season in the opening game of Group A. However, a six game undefeated streak allowed them to capture their second league title under Petty. In total, the Under 18s have won 26 of their 29 league games this season, drawing twice and losing once, scoring 123 goals along the way. Rune Vleminckx, who was the team's top scorer in the league this year, netted an impressive 37 goals in 21 games. The league victory was made all the sweeter thanks to the Under 18s winning their first FA Youth Cup, thanks to a Vleminckz hat-trick in a 3-0 victory against Chelsea in the final.

The Under 18s still have much to play for, as they compete for the UEFA Youth League. In their maiden campaign in the competition, the team will face off against Lyon in the Semi Final, having won their group and beaten Real Madrid and CSKA Moscow en route.

Youth Spotlight - May

Our final look at the Young Villains of the regular season will see us looking at two more first year scholars. In what has been a season of unprecedented success for the Young Villains, we want to take this time to praise the staff at the club for developing these players, Clark and the scouting team for finding them, and Gordan Cowans and Ben Petty for leading them through the season, having captured the Under 21 Youth Cup, Under 18 Youth Cup, and the Under 18 Youth Premier League.

Who's up next?

Crayford born midfielder Tyron Hooper joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2019, having spent a year with Middlesborough, and a year with Dagenham and Redbridge. The 18 year old English midfielder has made 21 appearances this season, scoring 4 goals and grabbing 2 assists in the process.

Brussels born Belgian Under 19 international Christian Nguidjol joined Villa from Belgian side Anderlecht last summer, and has demonstrated in his short time so far at the club his immense promise. He has featured in 26 games, scoring 7 goals and assisting 7 goals in that time. The versatile player, capable of playing as a striker or just in behind one, recently turned 18 and should have a bright future for both club and country. Nguidjol, who is eligible for both Belgium and Cameroon, has represented the nation of his birth at Under 19 level.

Clark the Olympian.
Villa Manager offered Olympics Chance.
24th May 2020

The Aston Villa board are delighted to announce that the club have been approached by the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) and the Brazilian National Football Team manager, Tite, about the availability of Villain manager James Clark. Clark has made a name for himself in world football recently, having won the Europa League and reaching a Champions League Quarter Finals, where Barcelona needed away goals to progress, and his stock appears to be growing further.

After consulting the board, Clark has admitted this opportunity is one he cannot turn down. We are delighted to announce that James Clark will be leading the Sele
ção at this Summer's Olympic Games.

"The chance to prove myself on the next level is one I couldn't possibly turn down. Naturally, I would have loved the chance to manager England or Great Britain at the Olympics, but naturally, that wasn't going to happen. The Olympics is a tournament so few people get the chance to take part in, and I cannot wait to get myself and my new team into training and ready for the Games."

Clark will return from the games, to be held in Japan this year, and continue his leadership of Aston Villa next season. Whilst his participation in the Games may conflict with the start of the new season, we fully support this unique opportunity for our first team manager, and we hope that the success he will find in Japan will allow the club to continue our path of development.

You can order your own limited edition Brazilian jersey in the club shop now!

2020/2021 - Season Preview

Last season saw huge amounts of success at Villa Park, and the next season could be a real turning point for the club. What do we know heading into the new season? And what issues might the club face?

What we know...

Well, the board have decided to expand the stadium by another 12,000 seats. Expanding Villa Park to near 55,000 seats would give us the 6th biggest stadium in the league, which shows just how much progress this club is making. However, it does mean a move to Coventry and sharing the Ricoh Arena for the upcoming season. In the long run this should pay off.

We know Clark will be absent for the first few games of the season. This is both a positive and a negative. The reason we should look positively on this decision is that the Brazilian FA have headhunted our manager to lead their Olympic side this summer. How many clubs can say that their foreign manager has been recruited by one of the biggest footballing nations to lead them into a major international tournament? Not many. Yes, it will mean that Rudy Heylen will lead the team for the opening games of the season, but we find it hard to believe he won't have notes from Clark, and he would struggle with the squad at his disposal.

Confirmed Deals

So far the club have confirmed four major deals, and all of them outgoing. Sergi Samper, Willian, Sam Byram and Michy Batshuayi have all left the club. The future of Timo Horn remains in the balance, and Moussa Dembélé, Calum Chambers, Emanuel Mammana, Henri Lansbury and Abdelhak Nouri are all being heavily linked with moves away.

The reality is whilst the confirmed deals do leave the squad a little bare, they are great deals for the club. Sam Byram spent two years with us, and failed to nail down a first team spot. He cost the club £6.25m, and left for £10m. A profit of just under £4m, and £10m for your second choice right back? That's good business. Samper was arguably the fourth choice midfielder at the club, and made 23 appearances in all competitions last season. His chances were limited thanks to the emergence of Franjo Cirjak and Eivind Ruud. He joined for £10m, and left for just under £17m. His departure has seen a massive profit for a bit part player, and more opportunities for younger players is a great deal for everybody. Batshuayi joined Villa from Napoli for £9m, made 63 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals before the signing of Mauro Icardi limited his game time. He joins Newcastle for £10m, which combined with the £2.5m loan fee received, means the club have made a reasonable profit off a player with limited game time is another great deal for the club. This means we have made nearly £37m from three squad players, which is great business in anyone's books. Throw in the £20.5m deal for Willian, who will be 32 on his next birthday, and who joined the club on a free transfer, means Clark has worked incredibly well in the market so far.

Horn appears desperate to move, but sources at the club insist he won't move unless a team meets his valuation, and the same can be said for Mammana. Clark has informed the media that, whilst every player does have a sale value, he will not be bullied into selling any player he does not want to, or a player whose value is not matched.

Incoming Deals

Clark has announced that fans should not expect many players to be bought in this window. He has maintained his vision for Aston Villa is to produce and promote talented young players from within the club, and after the recent success of the Young Villains, we could see the first batch of young guns to be promoted. Easah Suliman has proven his Premier League ability after two successive loans with Wolves earned him a place in Ronald Koeman's England squad for the recent European Championships, and looks likely to be promoted. Jasper van de Kamp also looks set to replace Sam Byram as the second choice fullback. Conrad Gempf had a successful loan with Crystal Palace, where he was named Fan's Player of the Year, and could be moved into the first team squad, alongside Sergio Rodríguez. The club will be eager to sort out loans for a number of young players, and give them the opportunities to prove themselves on a larger platform, and we could see the promotion of Jorge Ortega or Goran Cvetkovic should a move for Dembélé materialise.

The future does look bright at Villa, despite the clouds currently hovering over the club. We have faith in the vision of the manager, the board, and the coaching team.
