Transfer News
21st August 2019

Aston Villa are delighted to announce the loan signing of Norwegian international midfielder Eivind Ruud from FC Barcelona for the 2019/20 season. Ruud, who joined Barcelona from Tippeligaen side Odds Ballklubb in 2016/17, will be a familiar face to many English football fans having spent last season on loan with Chelsea.

"I'm delighted that we have the chance to work with Eivind this season. He's a player I've had on my radar for a while, and I think he's a tremendous talent. I did try to sign him a few seasons ago, but he made the move to Spain instead. I was impressed with him at Chelsea, and when we knew he was available again, I decided to make the move for him."

The deal with Barcelona does give Clark the option to sign Ruud for a fee of £2.1m at any point this season.

Ruud - The Fact File

  • Born Nedre Eiker, Norway (19/11/1999).
  • He joined his first club, Odd Ballklubb, in 2012 aged 13.
  • He made his professional debut in 2016.
  • Joined Barcelona for a fee of £1.5m in 2017, and was moved to the Barcelona B team.
  • Named vice-captain of Barcelona B in 2017.
  • Named captain of Barcelona B in 2018.
  • Made four starts for Barcelona B, scoring two goals and getting two assists. Made a further sixteen appearances from the bench.
  • Joined Chelsea on loan for 2018/19 season.
  • Made nine starts, and a further thirteen appearances from the bench, for Chelsea.
  • Made five appearances for Norway, scoring one goal.
  • Made his international debut against Finland in 2018, aged 19.
  • Scored his first international goal against Canada in 2019.

Who are your star performers

Moussa Dembele got 27 goals in 41 games for me in the Championship. Grealish and Traore were fairly important too. Henri Lansbury has been a hero (averaged 7.74 in the Championship, averaged 7.4 over the last four and a bit seasons), Lewis Cook is a great little player too.

Aston Villa gossip updated: Villains near deal for two, third deal looks unlikely

Rumours are circulating that the top brass at Aston Villa are attempting to negotiate deals for a number of "key targets". Despite the window closing just a few weeks ago, rumours are flying around tht the club are looking to seal a few deals before the end of the month. A club insider revealed that Villa are looking to announce FOUR deals before the window re-opens in January.

Arguably the two highest profile deals would see the club secure
Leroy Sané and Eivind Ruud on permanent contracts. The two players are currently on loan with Villa, and have impressed the management in their short time with the club. Ruud looks set to be confirmed soon, with a purchase clause of just £2.1m in his loan deal, however, capturing Sané may prove to be trickier.

The German winger, who joined parent club Real Madrid for £36m, made just 23 appearances in his three years in Spain, and there is a clause that will allow Villa to sign him for £13.75m at any point. However, an insider has revealed that the player and his agent are demanding wages in the region of £180k a week, with a combined signing on fee of over £10m! This would bring the total cost of the transfer to nearly £70m, before any playing bonuses. Understandably, the club appear reluctant to do business at that price.

The other rumours surround a young Swedish midfielder, from Elfsborg, who is believed to have signed a professional deal with the club, and a Brazilian midfielder currently on loan in Israel. Jonas Martinsson and Anderson Faria are two highly rated young players, and would fall into the new youth-focused approach Clark has brought the Villa Park.

More details as they break.

THE VILLA BLOG

Youth Spotlight - November

We decided we needed a new feature here at VillaBlog, and thought with the recent success our teams have been finding on the field, what better feature than one that shines the spotlight on the young Villains bringing success to the club. Each month we will select and profile one of the many talented young players currently within our ranks.

Where to start?

What better place to start than at the back? The first name on the team sheet for any great team is the goalkeeper, and the Young Villains have a gem of a keeper.
Andy Bühlbecker is a second-year scholar with Villa, having joined from Hertha Berlin. The 19 year-old German Under-21 International stands 6 foot 2, and has announced himself as one of the hottest prospects in youth football.

Born in Landstuhl, Kaiserslautern, Bühlbecker has already made three first team appearances for the club, and looks to be the long-term successor to fellow German Timo Horn.

Already an established player at youth level, Bühlbecker was a member of the German side that were runners-up in the recent UEFA Under-19 Championships, and was named in the team of the tournament, having made five appearances for the Germans.

The future looks bright for this imposing young man, who continues to grow and impress with every appearance he makes.

Have a look at some of the big boy clubs. City are usually good for a bargain with the player/manager turnover. Same with Real Madrid. Think James Rodriguez ended up being sold for like £25m or something in my fourth season. Wish I'd seen it sooner.

THE VILLA BLOG

Youth Spotlight - December

For the second in our new monthly feature, we've decided to give you a seasonal bonus. Two players for the price of one!

Who's up next?

They say goals win games, and if that is true, this guy must responsible for winning whole seasons. Rune Vleminckx (pronounced Roon Vlem-inx) is a tremendous youth talent, and has been on the radar of many large European clubs. The Belgian forward, born in Heist-Op-Den-Berg, is a second year scholar with the Young Villians, having joined the club from Club Brugge in his native Belgium.

Just 18 years old, Vleminckx has netted 40 goals for the various Young Villains this season, grabbing 11 assists in the process. What makes this more impressive is Rune has played in just 30 games.

Affectionately known as "Runey", this young man has represented his country at Under-21 level on 6 occasions, netting 5 goals for the Young Devils in the process. He is incredibly highly thought of by the club, who seem him as a potential breakout star in the clubs youth ranks. Expect him to make his mark sooner, rather than later.

iH5YX6O.png

Up next is Villa's resident boy from Brazil. Born in Sao Paolo to a German father and Brazilian mother, Galego joined legendary Brazilian side Santos in 2014. He was soon attracting attention from sides across the world, and Clark moved quickly to secure the signature of the young man. Galego, otherwise known as Wisley Jakobs, had failed to agree professional terms with the Brazilian side, and eventually joined Villia after his 18th birthday for a nominal fee. Since moving to Europe, Galego has found himself called up to the ranks of Die Jung Mannschaft, and the rumours are he could revert to using his birth name as a result.

A technically gifted young attacking midfielder, who is as tricky as he is versatile, is making a real name for himself in his first season with the club. He has made 24 starts for both the Under-18 and Under-21 sides at Villa Park, and in those combined games has netted 10 goals. To make things more impressive for the young man, he's also chipped in with a staggering 23 assists. The future is bright for Galego, and whether he commits to Germany as Wisley Jakobs, or is tempted back to represent his birth nation, the fact is we could see the birth of a footballing legend.
