Maybe it's a coincidence that whenever I watch Real (fairly often) - he does nothing but pointless stepovers and dives. Spurs goal is about the only good thing I've seen of him this season tbh and he was absolutely useless today; missed two chances when he should have done better with the shot/pulled it back. Good chances too and he sliced them both horribly high and wide

Hes a very very good player, even though you know where hes going it's still really hard to defend it, its like watching Robben except he's not semi crocked and is better from range

I'm not judging this on one game.. RM paid around £30m in total for him and he really hasn't done much IMO.

10 goals and i think 14 assists in 39 games in his first season, as well has his general excellent overall play? not quite sure what you demand of him to prove he's done well

9 and 13 in 45 games [all club comps] (vs Arshavin: 10 goals, 13 assists in 45 games) - It's not especially impressive and stats/goals don't tell the whole story. I really just don't rate him that much - he has skills and a bit of pace but goes over far too easily and has little variety.

you already admit you havent seen much of him, but his overall play his very good, much better than arshavin who doesnt nothing for vast periods, tactically hes vital to Jose as well as the counter-balance to Ronaldo

I didn't say I don't see much of him. I said whenever I watch RM (Which is fairly often) - he does nothing to particularly impress me. I'm not trying to say Arshavin's a better player (although I'd argue that Di Maria doesn't defend any more than Arshavin does), just that his goals/assists record isn't as good as you claimed it was.

as i said plus is overall play in his first season, yeah its very good, and hes a cracking player. You may not rate him, but most people do, certainly the madrid fans who watch him day in and day out, considering his age and the fact he will only get better as his game improves (still a fairly raw player) 30million is a decent price

Also - not trying to be argumentative, but in what way does he counter-balance Ronaldo? Both are pacey, skillful and good from range and both like to take on their man. Both very direct..

ronaldo is often deployed higher up the pitch, as the release point on the counter, Di maria is then deployed deeper on the opposite flank, instead of being deployed as high up. ronaldo is direct at goal and everything else is secondaru, hence averaging so many shots on goal, Di Maria is deployed to assist/switch the ball to the other flank (often to find ronaldo), link with Ozil, or shoot from range.

on paper they do look similar, but they actually play very differently

(if you were to recreate it in FM, ronaldo is the archetypical inside forward, Di Maria is winger support, often as deep as ML, but with high creative freedom)

Shocked to see Ronaldo cost more than all of Barcelona's starting line up tonight.
