Scholes, or Pirlo. Some greats could match their short passing, some others could match their long passes, but they couldnt cover the sheer range of passes these players could make, they'd find you at 5 or 50 yard, didnt matter where you or they were on the pitch. Outstanding players

Long range passes - Xabi Alonso
Short range passes - Xavi
Out of mind, unexplainable, amazing passes - Guti Haz.
And for the crosses free kicks with great curve - Andrea Pirlo and Becks.

worth mentioning :

Sneijder
Sahin
Schweinsteiger
Scholes
Iniesta

etc.

I would agree with most of that . Perhaps zidane instead of xavi that would be about it.

In my life time (from my probably biased view) Xabi Alonso. Just magnificent, makes it look so easily, always looks comfortable passing it and keeps it marvelously.

Thought there was already a thread on this

http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/rest/63203-who-do-you-think-best-passer-ever-grace-game.html

But for my 2p worth:
I think it’s a very close run thing. It’s almost as if we have two kinds of passers in the game. We have your people who love the killer balls (the Totti, Iniesta, Xavi’s of this world) and then the quarter back style lynch pins (Scholes, Pirlo, Seedorf etc).
Scholes’ ability to do both (I know Xavi can do both) excellently as well as the other means he’s probably one of the best passers there has ever been. Who else do you see pinging 70 yd cross field balls at the feet of his target.
What distinguishes Scholes for me is that when he has the ball and attempts a typical “Scholes” pass, you know it is finding the destination, whereas another player may have this pass labelled ‘hopeful’.
He is a wonderful player. But it is a very very close run thing

Xavi for me is an amazing short passer, is long range passing does not meet the same standards as Scholes and Pirlo. I voted for scholes, his overall range of passing is amazing and you only have to watch him play most weeks to see him ping a cross field ball with pin point accuracy.

Also, you should change the title, many of us are to young to have seen Platini in his prime nor maradona and most of the people are from the modern professional age of football. Something like "Best passer of modern day football"

I posted this thread two months ago.

And again, Scholes and Xavi.

Some big names being put out there, but Guti is definitely the most under-rated on the list!

This Video tells the whole story, genius! YouTube - Real Madrid - Top Assists (Guti DOMINATOR)

completely agree in a totally non-bias way...

Good idea mate. I would but i cant change the names in the poll so it would get confusing :S

Long ball passing - Alonso. Short passing - Xavi, Iniesta.

But for the all round passing and his amazing short game, long game, middle game (Yes I just made it up) it has to be Scholes. In my opinion there's no one quite like him. Whilst IMO he isn't as good as players like Xavi, Iniesta etc, his passing game is as good as anyone's and has a lot to be admired.

And that's from a Liverpool fan.

Paul Scholes > any other passer

Xabi Alonso is a close second for me though...

Figo and Rui Costa could also be added to that list mate :)

Rooney has been passing the ball like a God recently... his vision is unparralleled

you also forgot Iniesta who is also a little master :) and Beckham does deserve a mention!

Paul Scholes > any other passer

Interesting to see scholes with so many vote. I personally thought that Andrea Pirlo was the most all rounded passer ever.

short passes - zidane

long passes - alonso

Passes that are impossible and no one else would even think of - guti
