Emphatic win to get the title good job been a very good year, congrats
 
We had one last game in the league before the big final against PAOK in the Olympic Stadium. Olympiakos had to travel to the beautiful city of Xanthi to face the local team. For Billy this match was the perfect chance to rest some of his players and to give the opportunity to a few of his youngsters to get some playing time. But for one player this game was going to be one of the most important night in his life. David Fuster , a loyal soldier of "Thrylos" would be playing his last professional game since we had announce his retired at the end of this season. The Spanish was an example for all the players in this team. He was questioned from every coach that has passed from Olympiakos. Even Billy had sent him on a loan last year. He never complained though, not once. He was the first to report for training and the last to leave. That is why he would be starting this match and Billy had decided that he was going to play the whole 90 minutes.

Thanks man ! I am so delighted ! If I would not win it I would have resigned (or probably start a new save ha haha !!)
 
Last game of the season and what a game! Greek cup final and a chance to do the double! PAOK should not be taken lightly though since they had managed to take the cup and our chances to do one more double a few years earlier. It was the season 2000-2001 when PAOK took advantage the fact that Olympiakos was still celebrating the champion that he had won a few days before and won 4-2. Billy remembered that game and he did not had any mood for a deja vu !

Perhaps I am going to stay one or two seasons more. The team is looking good ( I 've made a great transfer but that is a surprise) and I really want to see just how far we can go in the Champions League. In Greece my goal is to get the double every year by all means !!!
 
The President of the club was very happy with Billy but when he announced to him the transfer budget for the upcoming season our hero thought that mr. Marinakis was still drunk from yesterday 's party in order to celebrate the double !!

But Everton and Fc Schalke came and changed and changed his plans a bit. The British club payed Fortounis minimum release clause (7.500.000 Euros) and the Germans made a deal for Romero that mr. Marinakis could not say no (15.000.000 Euros) So our hero made some more moves...

With Fortounis and Romero out he had to strengthen his middle field again. Simao Texeira and Dimoutsos (as a back up only) could do the job!

After this busy transfer period, Billy and his new assistant started to prepare the team for the upcoming year. Getting the double was his primary goal.

Only a few days before the opening game of the new season and Billy had to alter his plans one more time. Bayern Leverkuzen came and paid the release clause of Hernani and so a new winger had to be bought and fast in order for the him to be able to be registered for the champions league.

After two days of intensive searching Billy and Maunel decided that young Greek player Thanasis Karagounis would be the chosen one. He had great potential, he was a homegrown player and of course young. Another reason for this decision was that our manager had decided to use Zivkovic mostly in the left side and as first team regular, in order to persuade him to renew his contract which will be expired next year. So since he had two left footed wingers and only one right footed, he needed one more.

The first game of the Superleague was with Apollon Smirnis in Karaiskakis. The stadium was packed and the fans were curious to see the new players of their beloved team in action. Billy knew that it was not going to be an easy game. His team was at almost 50% new (since four of last year team regulars had departed), and the new players wanted time in order to learn how to work together as a group.

Finboganson was the savior today in a match were we dominated but we could not win their goalkeeper who put up a great show behind the sticks. But today winning was more important than the team‘s performance.
Before the second game for the championship everybody in Olympiakos were anxious to know their group for this year champions’ league group stage. Last year the team had managed to qualify for the next round. Will they do it again this year?

By taking a glance in the group the first answer is no but we won’t go down without a fight!

Next game was in the city of Agrinio. Billy was not feeling good for this game either. He had seen that his players could not stop thinking about the champions’ league and they were not focused. “Wake up and stop thinking about Europe! Panaitolikos will punish us if we enter loose in this game”, Billy tried to shape up his players.

His efforts were in vain. They just dominated the game and “we did not had any answer for them today” as Billy said after the game.
 
AEK Athens was coming strong in Karaiskakis for the third game of the Greek League. Thrylos was still trying to find his identity and Billy had to rotate his team since they had to travel to Madrid in three days in order to face Athletico for the opening game of the champions league. This season had not started so well …

A draw was a fair result even though it always nice to win in a derby especially when you play home.

Next stop was Madrid and Diego Simeone‘s crave. Atletico was the big favorite and it was going to be a very hard for the reds from Piraeus.

The team was not playing well and it was time to start showing its quality. Even though the team had to travel to Thessaloniki for a difficult game against PAOK, no other result except from the win was acceptable.

It was time for the Greek Cup to begin and for some players to come out and prove their worth. Win and a good show for the fans were the two goals from that game.

Mission accomplished.



Second game for the champions’ league and what a day for Yuri Tielemans! He had to face his previous team in just three months’ time since his arrival in Piraeus. Billy talked with him after the match and tried to calm him down since he was very nervous. He was not fully adjusted to his new team and a very cautious approach from our manager was needed. It was obvious that the young Belgian was going to be the new leader of Olympiakos but first he needed to believe in himself.

A great win!! Munir was absolutely amazing and so was Zivkovic! I must try to find a way to renew his contract because so far all my efforts are fruitless…
 
Start to the season is improving, I think you have chance of qualifying from your group but, you might need Atletico to beat Benfica to help

It is a very tough group for sure. I must try to win all my home games in order to have a chance. You never know what will happen in CHL. Look what happened yesterday where Olympiakos ant the favorite to qualify and Arsenal beat us with 3-0 and bye bye knock out stage even though we had two away wins !!
 
Back to Greek Superleague for Olympiakos and the team had to travel 500 kilometers in order to face Iraklis in Thessaloniki.

It was a very close game and Benfica managed to steal the win with a penalty at the last minutes of the game. Qualification in the knock out face is looking very difficult at the moment ...

Opening game for the Greek cup and the first match was against Larisa the team were Billy first played professional football and the city where he was born. The fans of AEL (the nickname of Larisa) packed the stadium in order to applause their hero. After all Billy was part of team (and one of the best players) that gave Larisa its first and only First Division (now known as Greek Superleague) championship.

Yes and that is why he did not became furious ha ha ha ! And some info about the player who scored the equalizer. His name is Koutsianikoulis and when he begun his carrier he was tipped as the Greek Messi. He was bought by PAOK but the night life of Thessaloniki did not let him concentrate in football. So he end playing in Greek League 2 (now called Football League).
 
Next stop was Crete and the village where our president Mr. Marinakis was born, where Olympiakos was going to face the local team for the Superleague.

Olympiakos was going to Portugal in order to win at least one point from the game against Benfica. Not an easy task since the former team of Joao Texeira was sitting on the first of the group looking very strong.

Munir is on bad form recently and so as Ideye. Also the absence of Hernani is more than obvious. The team this year does not look so good and the games with Benfica and Atletico proved that.

"The bad loss at Portugal affected the team and Asteras made us pay. We have to return to the wins though since our first goal is the championship and we won't let it slip off our hands" said Billy after the game.

The game against Panthrakikos at Komotini was very important. We desperately needed a good win to help the players chin up.
