Tireless midfielder Sebastjan Avbelj has no place in Marcelino's plans and has been allowed to leave for Borussia Dortmund in a £4.2m deal. The Slovenian played 22 games for Chelsea last season but only managed to produce a single assist.

Left winger Siaka Diallo (29) has left Chelsea for Paris Saint-Germain. The French club will pay the Blues £9m for the Ivorian. Diallo spent two seasons with Chelsea after joining for £16m from Leeds but only managed 30 appearances with 5 goals and 6 assists not enough to convince Marcelino to keep hold of the player.

Manager Marcelino signed his fourth addition in the transfer window - 33 year old Korean central midfielder Lee Sung-Ho. Sung-Ho joins from Everton in a £6.25m deal which broke the hearts of Toffee fans as the Korean was a crowd favourite at his previous club. Lee Sung-Ho has been ever-present in Everton midfield during his two seasons.

BBC Sport football expert Mark Lawrenson takes a look at the title contenders

6 days and counting down to the start of the new season! Who will challenge for the title? Who will suffer relegation? Will anyone beat Newcastle to the trophy?

I think we are up for a cracking season this time. After Blackburn came so close last time they could go an extra mile and beat Newcastle to it. Leeds may make the right conclusions after they crushed out in the spring. Chelsea and especially Liverpool invested heavily in the transfer market and are an unknown quantity. And of course let's not forget the Manchester clubs who yet again sit as peripheral favourites. But what can we really expect from each of the clubs? Did they change their manager or prefer stability? Did they strengthen or a lucrative offer depleted their squad? What are their provisional squads for the upcoming season? Did they spend a good pre-season or they will meet Day 1 marred with injuries? It's all here on BBC Sport for you. Just read on and spread the word. Starting with the big favourites.

*Note - if the club conducted January transfers, they have been included in the squad sheet using the following format: players bought in January have their name in bold and marked by stars: *Aaron Abraham*; players sold in January have their name in bold and marked by brackets: (Aaron Abraham). All January transfers are additionally marked in the Notable transfers in/out field.

Newcastle squad is amazing, so many players with insane stats, though dare I say a few too many 30 plus for my liking!

I could address the age issue as you see a lot of younger players are out on loan, but I've grown sympathy for the lads in the first team and will probably stick with them until they retire or drop their level too much to stay competitive. It's sad a few of my stars will spend their careers out on loan though but they generate some important income through loan fees.

As long as they are doing the business then I suppose you have no reason to move them on and like I said on previous pst, they do have insane stats

Hopefully some of the other contenders will offer as much challenge as Blackburn did last season to keep it interesting. They have some pretty players, too.

Speaking of Blackburn, how comes Ter Stegen has only 1 cap! That is very odd for such a quality keeper

The German national team has always been strange, they have a Lazio regen with 33 caps, OM regen with 9 and Stuttgart regen with 2 in their current selection. I'd pick ter Stegen over each of them but they never offered me the job :)

FINAL SCORE:
Newcastle United 2-1 Blackburn Rovers

Newcastle defeat Rovers for the second consecutive season in the FA Community Shield match. And just like last year Aguilar gets himself sent off for two needless yellow cards within 10 minutes. The difference between the sides wasn't as big as anticipated though and if it wasn't for two soft penalties, the game could have had a different outcome. Let's take a look at match stats and individual performances:

FA Community Shield 2027/28 - holders Newcastle!

Blackburn conclude arguably the best transfer this summer!
............................................................................................................
By Kevin Gallacher.........iiiiiiii..........1:26 PM Thursday 12th August 2027 in Sport
............................................................................................................

Neil Lennon has produced a real coup today by convincing Can Özdemir to join Blackburn. The striker is the next best thing after sliced bread and needed a move to get himself a well deserved chance of trophies at the age of 28. Manchester City were convinced to sell with a reasonable bid of £21.5m but the Turk is probably worth twice that money. This major signing means we can compete with Newcastle in terms of strikeforce now.

Can Özdemir

Can Özdemir spent four seasons with Manchester City and played 169 games for the Citizens during which he managed the impressive 118 goals. He has represented the Turkish national team 77 times with a scoring record of 74 goals.
