Priestley rediscovers his scoring shoes

In a fine Saturday afternoon Jim Priestley returned to his finest form and bagged a first half hat-trick to punish Oxford. Goalkeeper Villalobos came off the bench to finish them with a composed kick from the penalty spot. The visitors posed little threat and after this easy fixture Newcastle are tightly on the back of surprise league leaders Manchester City.

On the footsteps of surprise leaders

Our top scorer this campaign Dong Dexin couldn't make it on the scoresheet but still contributed with two assists, while the most potent passer last season Diego Escudero also managed to create a goal before van der Vaart subbed him.

Hristov demands focus

Manager Hristov talked about the importance of keeping focus after a thrilling start of the campaign. He criticized wingers Escudero and Bonato for losing sharpness in the second half and admitted he brought them off the pitch to signal he will not tolerate anyone giving less than 100 percent. With Leomar back in contention after an injury Diego and Paolo will know they can't take anything for granted and unless they listen to what Hristov said they may find themselves on the bench.

Excellent response from Devils to turn around Spurs

Gary Neville

Published at 7:41PM, September 18 2027

80 minutes into the game at White Hart Lane it seemed we were in for another terrible weekend. Newcastle graduate Max Beresford had given Spurs the lead with a first half goal and despite our numerous attacks the ball just wouldn't go in. The second half went from bad to worse when Almamy Traoré walked off with an injury.

View attachment 355019
Beresford goal seemed a likely winner...

Just when the home fans were tasting a sweet victory Martyn Flint had a moment of brilliance to recuperate the terrible performance against Newcastle and pierced Spurs defense with an intricate pass which found Amos Obi who calmly slotted the ball home. Inspired by this goal the lads pushed on and Stuart Gillespie took advantage of some sloppy defending after a corner to bag a dramatic winner.

View attachment 355020
... but two late goals did the job!

This win is exactly what we needed. Spurs may not be the opposition they once were but are in bad need of points and turned the game in a real fight. Taking three points home from it will convince everyone - and especially the players - the blip against Newcastle was nothing more than a bad day at the office long gone.

Added time miracle saves Rovers
............................................................................................................
By Kevin Gallacher..................iii.6:20 PM Sunday 27th September 2027 in Sport
............................................................................................................

They say better late than never and Rovers fans had to go through added time **** to live the essence of these words to the hilt. Nobody would have expected Sheffield Wednesday to present so difficult questions to visiting Blackburn and after a confident penalty from new fan favourite Can Özdemir in the first half Rovers appeared to be on track for a routine win.

View attachment 355105
The Owls celebrate before half time whistle

It was too easy to celebrate though and instead of collapsing and letting more goals in, the Owls patiently waited for their moment and found it in first half stoppage time. Neil Lennon was furious and I guess the lads didn't enjoy the most pleasant of half time team talks in their careers. It didn't prove fruitful though as Wednesday stood their ground competently. As the minutes passed by the routine win was suddenly under question.

View attachment 355104
How much could happen in 4 minutes?

The hosts managed to limit the second half to few events as they were more than happy to settle with a point. We had to wait until added time to see something noteworthy happen but wasn't it worth it... Experienced commanding centre-back Jan Vogler was orchestrating the Owls' defense over 92 minutes but their line failed to handle a through ball and Vogler to avoid letting Can Özdemir go in a clear scoring position he brought him down. The referee had no choice but to send him off. The Owls surrounded the referee and delayed the free kick to the point it was clear it will be the last kick of the game... Josué stepped up to take it and wrapped the ball in the corner of the net - what a way to win!

Voltolini temperament disrupts team effort

Every once in a while you will get your hands on a player so talented you'd be forced to ignore his mistakes. I think the Premier League hasn't seen an Italian as temperamental as Voltolini since the Balotelli days at Manchester City. I will go as far as saying Pierpaolo is what Mario could have been, but still hasn't overcome the tendency to do stupid things in the wrong time.

View attachment 355117
From saint to sinner for Voltolini

This is exactly what happened in today's loss at Spurs. To be fair to the hosts they completely deserved their two goal lead on the hour mark thanks to a Beresford brace but after that it was only Liverpool on the pitch. It's always hard to come back from two behind although we did have a glimmer of hope when Voltolini erupted with a wonder goal on 73 minutes. It was his sixth in five games and we still had plenty of time left to avoid defeat.

View attachment 355118
Spurs emerge victorious

It wasn't to be. Pierpaolo needed ten more minutes to walk the way from saint to sinner as he got a second yellow card. With ten men on the pitch we didn't have enough options and our attacks became predictable. Tottenham held on for a big scalp and three valuable points and we had to go home empty-handed. I hope the lads won't hold a grudge against Voltolini as he definitely wasted the effort of the team today and few faces in the dressing room will be happy with it.

Liverpool (12th; 6pts; +3) - a loss at White Hart Lane means Liverpool end September in the bottom half of the table. Time is running out for the expensively assembled squad to produce. Player of the month: Pierpaolo Voltolini (AML/ST) 8.12
1 Current first team injury:
Eldin Jesenkovic (D/ML) - 9-14 days (sprained ankle)

Other teams to watch:

Manchester City (1st) - top form continues for Citizens and deservedly leads to top spot for second month running.

West Ham (7th) - the Hammers expectedly fall behind the title contenders but are still in a decent position to attack European qualification.

Oxford (8th) - just like West Ham, Oxford rake in enough points to attack European qualification.

Arsenal (10th) - the Gunners have a game in hand to get closer to Europe but need to hit form soon.

Crystal Palace (16th) and Swansea (17th) are yet to record a win and sit dangerously close to relegation zone.

Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Crewe Alexandra occupy the bottom three with only a single draw to show for six games. It would have looked dire for them if there weren't other teams in similar form.

Magpies demolish everything on their way to the top

View attachment 355221

Published at 7:03PM, October 3 2027

At the start of the season Newcastle manager Dimiter Hristov confidently talked about his desire to stamp the league position with a dominant start and pull away from the other contenders as early as the winter. Seven rounds in the campaign these words resound as Newcastle simply destroy everything on their way to the top. Three of five contenders have already been beaten, by a devastating margin. A terrific win at Anfield today finally sees us get where we wanted and the first position is ours.

View attachment 355223
Liverpool on their knees

I was expecting heavy spending Liverpool to pose more of a challenge at home but they only registered one shot in the entire game and it was off-target. Their aggressive approach did get them decent possession although they had little idea what to do with it and conceded too many fouls to justify that. On the other hand they were unable to resist our attacks, especially from the wings. Escudero and Bonato reacted to being substituted because of complacency in the previous game and terrorized Liverpool full-backs. Each of them scored and they shared three assists.

View attachment 355222
Fearsome rep doing the job before the cage is opened

With Liverpool concentrating all their efforts through the middle they outnumbered Mashishi and Toase and often found their way past our midfield. This is the time to point out if it wasn't for Bernal and Ibáñez we could have been in for a lot of trouble but the defenders handled everything thrown at them with commanding presence. I believe our name is beginning to weigh on whoever we face now and we seem to have the upper hand psychologically before the game has started. This is exactly what Hristov wanted and the way things are going we should have that lead he looks for when the winter comes.

Huerta and Magazin pull the strings for third win in a row

Tony Cascarino Commentary
Last updated at 8:03PM, October 3 2027

You can't compete at the top if you don't put together strong sequences. With this in mind Chelsea took the short trip for a London derby with West Ham knowing the Hammers share the same number of points as them after an inspired start of the season. Beating them would mean the Blues would gain momentum and in the same time break down their aspirations for Europe. Losing or even drawing and Chelsea would have been sitting next to West Ham in the table rather than Newcastle and the Manchester clubs.

View attachment 355226
Marcelino pulled genuine coups from the bargain basket

Summer signings Huerta and Magazin had no intention to see the latter happen. And they took care business is done, Huerta scoring a brace and Magazin finishing the Hammers off. The pair represent some excellent coups - they already have 10 goals between them in as little as 17 starts and are the leading scorers for Chelsea. It is even more impressive considering Magazin is a midfielder. The fans are already seeing early resemblance of one Frank Lampard but only time will tell if Magazin stays long enough to earn the legendary status Frank has. He looks to have it all in his legs though.

View attachment 355227
Extending the run will be hard with this leaky defense

It isn't all butter and honey though. Chelsea defense was once again unable to keep a clean sheet. They have managed that just 2 times in 9 attempts, conceding 13 goals in the process. This is simply too much for a title contender and the leaks must be stopped. Otherwise the next hurdle might be a little too high to keep the run going.

Leeds United: Chelsea destroyed - still unbeaten this season! - Matteo
View attachment 355249

by Dominic Matteo
Prior to this weekend there were only two sides in the league yet to taste defeat - Newcastle and Leeds. We faced Chelsea in a clash of giants and that run was about to be tested. As I suspected, Harry Redknapp left our Korean star Ahn Jung-Ho on the bench despite his red hot scoring form. It was simply bound to happen now that Herrera has returned to full fitness - Harry delays but doesn't forget.

View attachment 355247
Harry has the final laugh in Ahn Jung-Ho debacle

It might have been a costly decision as it was Chelsea who took the lead in the 20th minute through their own man on fire Osvaldo Huerta. Despite the lack of Ahn Jung-Ho we still fielded a team brimming with quality and a single goal was never going to be enough to bring us down. Chelsea seemed satisfied to see out the first half at that score and slowed the tempo down - way too early! The Blues can hardly count on their defense to win games and Pöyry was quick to punish the irrational decision of their manager just 13 minutes after they opened the score. But there was still time to get a second - Boyaro snapped it in stoppage time and Chelsea's tactical plan was on tatters.

View attachment 355248
Leeds fly past Chelsea

Redknapp was aware Chelsea posed serious threat going forward but were vulnerable on the back and looked to exploit that to kill the game off. Boyaro executed that plan to perfection with a thunderous drive just 3 minutes after the break and Chelsea never recovered from that. There was enough time for Rivière to grab another goal and complete a final score suggesting we look much more like title contenders than them. And after this tough fixture we are just two points off the top!

Clash with the Owls: two red cards, four goals and three points off the top!

Gary Neville

Published at 7:17PM, October 17 2027

Our game with Sheffield Wednesday always had goals in it but I didn't expect it to be so eventful. The Owls can't be a match for us at Old Trafford and everyone was expecting a convincing win. The lads were in good mood and after two goals from Shoretire and Amadou there was little intrigue left on the half hour mark.

View attachment 355253
Second yellow in the first half? Come on!

Just as the fans laid back and expected to see more goals McFadden got himself sent off and all of a sudden we were under totally unnecessary pressure. Sir Alex instructed the players to hold possession and see the game out but the Owls were now threatening on the counter. They did have a couple decent chances and with a little bit of luck could have made it interesting. It was a great relief we managed to get a third early in the second half to kill off their hopes. In a little annoying final ten we lost our concentration and allowed them to get a consolation goal but a straight red for De Havilland put us on a level playing field and there was no way back from then on.

View attachment 355254
Callaghan kills it with the third

We need to improve our concentration in these "easy" games. Two yellow cards in the space of seven minutes is always going to make your life difficult - and if Sheffield Wednesday couldn't get that bit of luck, other teams might.

One question: which database do you use?

The default one, I can't remember but I think I added some of the winter transfers. I purchased the game some time January so not all of them - it's the first and only save I have on it.

Must admit a little sin though, I didn't move Ba to Chelsea and he went on to become a club legend and retire at Newcastle. Maybe I would have found it harder or at least more time consuming to establish us as the powerhouse we currently are if I didn't have him.
