Hristov gives five year contracts to twelve players

Newcastle manager Dimiter Hristov has moved swiftly to handle the contract situation at Saint James' Park. As widely speculated no less than fourteen players had twelve months left on their deals and Hristov opened negotiations with all of them. Only two of those have so far rejected to put pen to paper. The Evening Chronicle understands Sam Thomas and the management are still some way apart as the young wing-back believes his salary should match the other first team players and the club are unwilling to give him such a raise considering he is on £25k p/w. Vice captain Michael Toase has also asked for a significant raise from his current £165k p/w contract and Hristov prefers to up only his bonuses.

In the meantime all the other players have already signed their new five year deals and will stay with the club until 30th June 2033. The club has published the figures but picked not to disclose the various bonuses included:

Striker Jim Priestley will receive £190k p/w. His previous contract was for £160k p/w.
Winger Mickaël van der Vaart will receive £150k p/w. His previous contract was for £150k p/w.
Centre-back Santiago Bernal will receive £150k p/w. His previous contract was for £150k p/w.
Winger Paolo Bonato will receive £135k p/w. His previous contract was for £150k p/w.
Winger Roland Le Gac will receive £23k p/w. His previous contract was for £24k p/w.
Youngster Berkay Sezer will receive £12.75k p/w. His previous contract was for £0.75k p/w.
Wing-back Christian Lemos will receive £8.75k p/w. His previous contract was for £50k p/w.
Youngster Sam Latham will receive £5k p/w. His previous contract was a £55 p/w youth deal.
Youngster Tony De Havilland will receive £3.5k p/w. His previous contract was for £1k p/w.
Youngster Mamadou Ba will receive £3k p/w. His previous contract was for £3k p/w.
Youngster Tom Riley will receive £2.5k p/w. His previous contract was for £1.5k p/w.
Youngster Kamel Boukhari will receive £1k p/w. His previous contract was for £1k p/w.

This means Newcastle will pay these players a total of £178m over the next five seasons, bonuses not included. The new deals have raised the overall wage bill of the club by a little more than £40k p/w.

Callaghan the hero at Hillsborough with a late brace

Gary Neville

Published at 6:29PM, August 13 2028

We came pretty close to a foul start in the Premier League opening weekend. Hosts Sheffield Wednesday were in good mood and did their best to disperse doubts they would roll over. Alarm bells rang pretty quick as the Owls took the initiative and looked to make home advantage count. And they nearly got it when the referee awarded them a penalty kick in the 16th minute. Amrani missed from the spot but we ignored the warning and looked content with playing second fiddle for large portions of the first half. Our apathy was inevitably punished just before the break when Kljestu gave Wednesday a well deserved lead.

Hillsborough boost put Owls in driving seat

Sir Alex turned on the hairdryer at half time and the lads left the holiday mood in the dressing room. We were much better and pushed for an equalizer from kick-off. The Owls were unable to hold off consistent pressure and summer acquisition Le Gac was quick to level the score. But instead of taking advantage of the psychological boost our game suddenly lost intensity and we let the hosts back in it.

Late turnaround and Red Devil joy in the end

The final ten minutes were as dramatic as you'll ever witness in a Premier League game. Ridley burst in our box to cap a brilliant counter and Wednesday took the lead again. We were set for a massive disappointment when who else but Martin Callaghan took matters in his hands and grabbed a brace within five minutes to ensure we start the season with three valuable points in the bag.

Vicentini follows Voltolini footsteps... in the wrong path

New era under Kenny Dalglish ownership got to a stumbling start with a disappointing goalless draw at Anfield. For the second season in a row a big Italian signing makes a red card debut - last season it was Voltolini, this time - Vicentini. Sadly the young striker's sending off was the only notable accident in the entire match and we had to settle with only a point.

Italian debut painted in red again

The scoreline is not the only reason to worry. Queens Park Rangers have spent big and assembled a pretty decent team. Their performance was a match for everything we could throw at them and don't let the lack of goals trick you - they looked pretty dangerous as well. It's too early to look over the shoulder but our visitors today are amongst the sleeping giants and it would be smart not to underestimate them in the long term.

Q.P.R. look threatening this season

Of course Míchel had limited options to chase the game once Vicentini headed for an early shower just three minutes into the second half. I wouldn't want to be overly critical but the manager's decision to sub Voltolini for more midfield stability with bringing in Sosa was probably a tactical mistake even though van Bremen and El Alagui do pose plenty of firepower and had a decent number of chances. In the end of the day our shooting was incredibly wasteful and we hardly deserved anything more than what we got.

Djokovic arrives at Old Trafford!

Gary Neville

Published at 9:11PM, August 14 2028

I never thought I'd say this but Djokovic has signed a five year deal with Manchester United! It is not global tennis superstar Nole though but his cousin Dario Djokovic (22) who has been doing a decent job in building his way off the shadow of his relative. Dario comes from npower Championship Leicester for £7.25m and has already had a taste of Premier League football with the Foxes when they failed to survive in 2025/26 and went straight down. The tireless midfielder has played 216 games for Leicester and scored the impressive 63 goals.

Dario Djokovic

It may be open for discussion whether we need another player in this position although I think that's not the main point about this signing. Sir Alex has once again made a smart move in terms of brand synergy with a blockbuster name now related to our club and news already broke fan shops in Serbia are asking for thousands of shirts delivery to answer the great demand. The rest of the world is likely to follow...

Boccaccini sinks Bolton to put Rovers on equal terms with Newcastle
............................................................................................................
By Kevin Gallacher.........iiiiiiii..........7:43 PM Saturday 19th August 2028 in Sport
............................................................................................................

Pundits looked at our squad in great detail during the pre-season. Opinions differed whether we would defend the title or lack of hunger would see us slide behind Newcastle again. One thing they agreed on though was our season would heavily depend on the goalscoring form of Turkish star Can Özdemir. They couldn't have been more wrong.

View attachment 360370
Captain Luca as good as old wine

Captain Luca Boccaccini may be 30 now but he is still the soul and driving force of this team. He was the top scorer last season with 34 (his partner "only" managed 27) and after today no one could argue he is most likely to once again hold this achievement. Don't get me wrong, I don't intend to compare the two of them, I merely admire the luxury of having them both in the team.

View attachment 360371
Amazing rivalry with Magpies continues

Luca scored five past Bolton and we won the game 7-0. This means we have responded to the glove Newcastle threw in our face in the opening weekend and both clubs sit top of the league, separated by nothing but the alphabet. Our terrible loss in the Community Shield is officially forgotten and we are looking forward to another breathtaking season of this magnificent rivalry.

Shola madness forces Red Devils to settle with a point in North-West derby

Gary Neville

Published at 8:02PM, August 19 2028

Many say the days when Manchester United and Liverpool fought over the title and the right to call themselves the most successful club in England belong in the past. The rivalry and the fierce derbies between us and the scousers may lack the shine of the contemporary titanic clash between Newcastle and Blackburn but remain one of the manifestations of true British football.

View attachment 360374
It was first North-West derby since Dalglish return

This weekend was no different. Liverpool arrived after a lackluster opening draw with Q.P.R and everything implied we were the heavy favourites. Home advantage, flying start of the season, fully fit squad and a great first half in which we probably deserved better than the 2-1 lead we had with the half time whistle. And we would have had it if Shola Shoretire hadn't blasted his shot from the penalty spot over the bar. It was 1-0 at the time after an early own goal by Liverpool goalkeeper Holy and building up a two goal advantage just ten minutes into the game would have put immense pressure on the visitors. Instead we let them back in it and Voltolini equalized. It was forgotten quickly though when Amadou put us ahead once again.

View attachment 360373
Shoretire hit a flat tire this evening

But good old Shola was in the epicenter of events once again just after the break. Having picked up a yellow card in the first minute of the game he went on to pick another in the very first minute of the second half as well and we had to play on with ten men. The tide turned massively and Liverpool completely blew us off the park. Even Sir Alex admitted after the game he doesn't know how we survived to pick up a point, especially after Gajic equalized with over ten minutes to go. Shoretire has been a great servant to this club but he is experienced enough to know screw ups like the one today cannot be justified.
