Steve Clarke has been fired by West Ham United president David Sullivan. The former Blackburn employee has been manager at West Ham since June 2011. Following the 0-2 Premier League defeat against Newcastle last Saturday, Allardyce's men are currently 16th in the league table with 28 points from 27 matches. West Ham have lost three of their last five games in the league.

Sam Allardyce parts ways with West Ham

Speculation as to Allardyce's successor at The Boleyn Ground is rife, with Derby County manager Steve McClaren being touted by the media as the favourite to get the nod. Oscar Garcia, Brian McDermott and Tony Mowbray have also been linked with the position.

Odds for next West Ham manager:
3-1 Steve McClaren
3-1 Oscar Garcia
5-1 Brian McDermott

Odds for next manager to get the sack:
5-4 Ian Holloway
5-4 Steve Bruce
5-4 Manuel Pellegrini

Brian McDermott has been hired as the new manager of West Ham United, confirming speculation that he would leave Leeds. Fifty-two year old McDermott is said to be relishing his new role at The Boleyn Ground and has already turned his attentions to the match against Manchester United on Saturday 1st March.

Mark Lawrenson Capital One Cup Final preview

This season's Capital One Cup sees tactical mastermind Mourinho's Chelsea face surprise league leaders Newcastle and eccentric Dimiter Hristov. Both clubs deserve their place here but while the Magpies are getting away in the league it will be even ground at Wembley. Newcastle won the league clash at Saint James' Park 4-2 and held off for a 3-3 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season which suggests Hristov might have the upper hand over Mourinho for the time being.

Team news:
Chelsea - Kevin de Bruyne injured, Frank Lampard doubtful
Newcastle - Davide Santon, Hatem Ben Arfa, Memphis Depay injured

FINAL SCORE: Chelsea 2-3 Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Dimiter Hristov promised before the game his team would come out and attack from the first minute and so they did! Chelsea were always at the back foot chasing the game and even though they managed to make it a close affair in the final ten minutes it wouldn't have been fair if they got that equalizer. Newcastle have finally broken the hoodoo by winning a trophy and can get back to the Premier League with renewed confidence they can really win it. Now let's take a look at match stats and individual performances:

Newcastle United Head of Youth Development Jason Dodd has informed the Evening Chronicle a new batch of youngsters have arrived at the club's academy. The crop is considered slightly underwhelming but after consultation with the staff manager Dimiter Hristov has decided to sign two of the youngsters on permanent deals, with an option to extend the contracts for additional three seasons. The first player is young winger Bob Dillon (15), who is equally adept as winger and advanced playmaker.

The second youngster who will have a chance to prove his worth for the black and white jersey is young centre-back Ricky Flaherty (15), who is quite capable of playing on both sides of defense if required.

Bob Dillon is certainly the more promising prospect of the pair but they both are aware they would need to show remarkable progress in the next few years to earn a place in the first team. In the meantime manager Dimiter Hristov has revealed his scouts are already on various trips to check on a number of prospects in other club academies throughout the world and promised Newcastle will do their best to sign the new Ronaldo and Messi on a long term contract as soon as the summer transfer window opens.
