Gary Lineker: Good evening and welcome to Match of the Day for our thoughts on the 2015/16 Premier League season! It seems the race will be as tight as ever this time around and as we all know it is those direct 6-pointer clashes that play a decisive part in deciding who will fly and who will fall. For this reason we will be focusing solely on those giant games in Match of the Day. Stay with us as Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer aid me on analyzing the key aspects of what happened and why it happened for you!

Manchester United - Newcastle
4-3

Gary Lineker: Old Trafford geared up for revenge as champions Newcastle were due to arrive off the back of an impressive victory over the other Manchester club. The Red Devils wanted to show their loss in the Community Shield was a one-off and continue a nice trend of wins over the Magpies. It seemed that would not be the case as the visitors dominated the game and built a nice three-goal lead with strikes from Donovan, Debuchy and Depay but Gareth Bale single-handedly sparkled the most unlikely of comebacks in the last 15 minutes. Fellaini pulled one back, Bale added another, Kagawa equalized - all within just three minutes - and Bale completed a breathtaking win with a 90th minute strike! Wow, the visitors will be left wondering what struck them!
Alan Hansen: This is why you have players like Bale in the team! Nothing was working for Man United until those final fifteen minutes and the Magpies were on track for a comfortable and deserved win. I think the only possible explanation for this dramatic shift of performance was the triple substitution Dimiter Hristov took on the hour mark - but even then the likes of Lamela, Alvarez Balanta and Januzaj should have been adequate cover for Donovan, Salvio and Varane. No more looking under small rocks - it was the Bale show that got the home side a sweet revenge!
Alan Shearer: We just can't look further than Bale for the PoM award, but I'd highlight Pogba as the catalyst to make the comeback possible with his two assists. Fellaini was also influential. Depay and Donovan shone for the guests and didn't take any part in the collapse at the end as they were already off the pitch. Varane and Debuchy were also pretty solid.
Gary Lineker: The debacle here threatens to hurt Newcastle's ambitions as the club slided down to 7th in the table. The Red Devils are on hot streak and this win will ignite genuine title aspirations in their side - and they haven't even dropped a point yet!!!

Arsenal - Manchester City
1-3
View attachment 414036

Gary Lineker: Arsenal welcomed heavy spenders Man City in a must-win game for both sides. Poor start of the season meant none of those two contenders had tasted victory, the Gunners failing to even win a point. Exceptionally tough schedule was partly to blame but you don't win anything without beating the big boys. Talking of big boys, the visitors had quite a few of them and they mattered in this game. Ronaldo gave them the lead in the very start of the match, Modric added another near the half hour mark. Messi scored his first goal in the Premier League after the break and Cavani pulled one back with 30 left to play. There was time left but belief was already gone for the Gunners and that was the last goal in this match - comfortable victory for Man City.
Alan Hansen: Just like the other title contenders clash this week, the big guns won it. I can sit here and analyze how Arsenal had more of the ball and crafted as many clear-cut chances as the visitors if not even more, how it was a very close fight but in the end of the day look at the scoresheet - Ronaldo, Modric, Messi. How do you stop this?! You simply don't.
Alan Shearer: There isn't much I can say about the home side in terms of individual performances. Maybe Jack Wilshere had a good, positive game - he also created his team's consolation goal. Messi was PoM. He scored and assisted for the other two. Ronaldo was also special. Modric was great, Gotze also created a goal. Vidal, Kompany and Neuer all impressed. Can you believe those names are in the same team?
Gary Lineker: That's true, the Citizens started off slowly but this game will be a message to the other contenders - there's no stopping us! It's getting worrying for the Gunners though - they still haven't earned a single point off their first three league games and must improve, fast!

City's team is unreal. Aguero is there too. Front four of Silva, Goezte, Messi and Ronaldo is creative as well as lethal. The midfield is epic, strong and creative with Modric and Vidal.

Still think Newcastle will win it? The way we dropped points at Old Trafford we'd be lucky to come second!! Deadline day is coming, I'll be updating the teams after that so you can see how they look.

I actually voted for Chelsea before all these transfers happened. City can win it but I think your win against City, despite that squad kind of makes you favorites now. I was high on Chelsea before all this happened.

Premier League predictions: Lawro v Usain Bolt

BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.

This week he takes on Manchester United fan Usain Bolt - the Jamaican superstar sprinter widely regarded as the fastest person ever.

View attachment 413813
Lawro vs Manchester United fan Usain

A correct result is worth ONE point. A correct score earns THREE points.

Tottenham - Newcastle
Usain Bolt: The kind of form Spurs are at the moment they can take points off the Magpies - 3-2.
Mark Lawrenson: I also like Spurs but I won't go all in for a home win here - 2-2.

Crystal Palace - Chelsea
Usain Bolt: I'd love to see the Blues drop points and this would be a pleasant surprise - 1-1.
Mark Lawrenson: This is the type of game Mourinho excels at. 0-3.

Nottingham Forest - Manchester City
Usain Bolt: Okay I won't get too carried away with emotional predictions, this is an away win. 0-3.
Mark Lawrenson: The Citizens have way too much for Forest. 0-4.

Manchester United - Everton
Usain Bolt: Those are the games we must win comfortably and I expect us to do just so. 4-0.
Mark Lawrenson: It might be tougher than the Red Devils think but I can't see Everton taking any points here. 3-1.

Liverpool - Arsenal
Usain Bolt: The Gunners are due a win - 0-2.
Mark Lawrenson: This is potentially season-wrecking game for Arsenal. 2-2.

Last week, Lawro got two results right, with one perfect score. His score of 4 was too much for the predictions of Tottenham fan Phil Collins, who scored 1, only managing one correct result with no perfect scores.

Total scores after Week Three
Lawro: 10
Guests: 3

View attachment 413772

Gary Lineker: It has been a while since White Hart Lane was trembling with excitement awaiting the arrival of Newcastle but this was just the case with Spurs sitting above the champions in the league table. Much credit was assigned to the home side's attack but it was their defense that cracked in the first half as Erik Lamela took full advantage of two awful mistakes within just three minutes to give the visitors a comfortable lead at the break. The Magpies had their early domination clattered though when Leighton Baines was sent off for two bookable offenses. Higuain pulled one back just after the break and then Lennon completed the comeback to give Tottenham a valuable point.
Alan Hansen: Even though I don't want to take anything away from Spurs, the Magpies probably didn't deserve to drop points here but everything went against them. The red card was a little harsh given the multiple similar fouls Tottenham players committed without any punishment, and of course Varane had to come off with an injury which messed the visitors' defense. What impressed me in this match was the high number of clear cut chances - Spurs had three while Newcastle crafted five.
Alan Shearer: Lennon was essential for Spurs and provided the equalizer but the one player I'd highlight from the home side was Coentrao - he created both goals for his team. The PoM award went to Erik Lamela for his tremendous display in the first half but striker Loic Remy was a bitter disappointment, missing a couple of clear-cut sitters.
Gary Lineker: This is the second time in a row the champions have thrown away a big lead and it fuels speculation this might not be their year. Spurs will certainly be the happier team as this point allows them to reinforce their high position in the table.
