Its interesting to see the mixed results people are having with this tactic. I'm in my second season with Thurrock having won promotion to the Conference by winning the league. I've just started to use the methods contained in the Wolfgang's team talk thread after a shaky start to the new season and performances are improving.
Bearing in mind I have just relied on my assistant's recommendations for buying players and not the recommended filters, my results have been good. I do seem to struggle at home though from time to time.
The ethos I have adopted which has served me well in this Thurrock game is pre-season use team blend on very high. When all bars are fluid drop down to average. Use the principles in the Wolfgang team talk thread (I have written down all the scenarios for quick reference). When playing lower leagues your unlikely to get anywhere near the attributes required for each position. My assistant has 11 for judging player ability but one of my coaches has 13 so I use my coach to further assess any recommendations. Its not ideal, but so far most of the players I have brought in have been good (check your team report to see recommendations btw for those who don't know).
I'll be doing a thread on this Thurrock game specifically to try and get users of this tactic to share their ideas and successes.
Questions I'd like answered are:
Has anyone had success with a bigger pitch size than the minimum specification recommended?
Any tweaks people have made that has improved the tactic in any way i.e. tactic used for home and away?
No offence to those who say the tactic is rubbish and are suffering heavy defeats, but this tactic is effective. It must be if i'm not even using players with the required stats and still winning with Thurrock of all teams! Pre-season I think is absolutely key. Get it right and your off to a winning start!
Update
----------
Since utilising wolfgang's teamtalk my record is as follows P14 W9 D1 L4
Impressive when you consider my form was pretty erratic before that. Incidently one of the above loss was to Brentford in the cup so that doesn't really count as their 2 leagues above me.....food thought people
