Unsurprisingly the Liverpool fans laugh at Roy, well he's not only got West Brom organised, but also playing pretty decent football. Have no problem with a similar organised framework for England that then allows our very best to flourish

Not to mention the great work he was doing before at Fulham what made Liverpool want him as manager in the first place.

Give Roy a chance for goodness sake. He was on a hiding to nothing when he went to Liverpool anyway, and did great work at Fulham and has things ticking along nicely at the Baggies as previously mentioned. The only downside I can see, is there are some players who have biggers egos than their playing abilities, and remains to be seen wether or not they'll play for him.

There are no big characters at West Brom for him to clash with. Do you think Rooney, Terry, etc will like Hodgson's brand of football, which it will be, due to the lack of time he'll have spent with them.

I think one incident sums that up well. Agger was taking the ball out of defence once, taking a striker on, then calls of "Just ******' launch it" from Hodgson ring out as Agger played a ball into the opposition's corner flag.

West brom are playing good football, and it doesnt stop rooney from doing what he does.

What it does do is set england up in a 4-2-3-1 shape, that allows the front 4 good freedom. Oh wait thats what england have been crying out for.

That must have been when Kyrgiakos was injured, otherwise Agger wouldn't have been on the pitch.

The football was fantastic at Fulham when they went on that run in the Europa league, i went to every game at home. Well organised at the back, with a structure not too different from the 'English way' of 442 and it's one that would certainly allow Rooney to work in his most effective manner. (not sure why a formation that suits Rooney is the big priority as he's banned anayway...)

He is a member of the FIFA technical study group which i always felt would give him an 'in' that wasn't immediately obvious to the press and most fans, and definitely gives him a good shot at the job, in the eyes of the FA anyway.

It doesn't matter who we appoint the England job is a career killer. This current crop of players don't have anything in them at International level, the next generation can win things I hope.

That being said, good luck Woy.

mixed feelings about Roy. He's had his success and failure in the past but he may be worth a punt. The fact he had Switzerland as the 3rd best team in the world at one stage is very commendable

Oh, my apologies, I was unaware that being a Liverpool fan meant I'm not allowed an opinion.

Redknapp isn't worth the £10 million or so Spurs are demanding.

If England have a poor Euro 2012 campaign you can expect the backlash against the FA to be huge.

Here's one for you Mike. Do you want Allen Wade football filtering through down to academy sides? That's what Hodgson's appointment does unless there's a big ego there to restrict his influence solely to first team affairs. Dull, joyless, drilled football is what Hodgson specialises in. It works well with players of limited ability. It may even work well, at least defensively, at the international level providing England are more drilled than their opposition. It's acceptable, but it's only acceptable when it's winning. (Echoes of complaints about late years Ramsey there).

Can understand and see why the FA have appointed Hodgson. He's a really good fit in every way bar the football his teams produce and issues around whether you like his approach. If he gets results, job's a good'un. If he taints the young players through with Wade's philosophies, then it'll set England back another generation or two. I'd call him Sven Mk.II but Sven was a better coach and actually postdates Hodgson on the road up.

Ah, ty for picking up on that, I meant the Euros.

Title is confusing me though, is he being offered the job or just being given an interview.

Just an interview-they're still to see Harry before the seasons finished then they'll decide

Bernstein said: "Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set out.''

Probably because Redknapp has been ignoring their calls, faxes, texts etc.

considering the almighty balls up we are in, and what England need in the short term, it's what we need. Long term, to be honest I get depressed even thinking about where this nation is going, do we even have a plan. I guess it depends how wide ranging his remit his. But looking purely at the senior side, right now it's a good appointment. He certainly doesn't merit immediately being laughed off.

P.s will get back your pm from last week, totally forgot.

FA's Alex Horne told @Iandennisbbc recently that England appointment would be long-term covering four years and three tournaments.

If that's Hodgson;

I personally think Roy would be a great choice. Look at his past experiences and see what he has done, except for Liverpool of course because they were in termoil before he arrived. Take a look at the '94 World Cup, Inter Milan, and Fulham and now WBA. Anyone who doubts his ability needs to seriously have their brain checked. Roy has been in the game for a **** of a long time and has had much success.

I think he would be a good appointment. Lets face it, we are not going to win the Euro's and I think releasing this kind of pressure of the players will sort of allow them the freedom to play how they want to play. Our younger players, imo, play better than the Ageing England squad from the past. Look at Germany at the World Cup, they had such a great young squad, now I'm not saying we should copy Germany but we should use them as Inspiration to help develop our younger players. Time will tell, but Roy is a good step forward if we appoint him.

Didn't know where to post this so i thought why not here. As we know since Capello's resignation Harry Redknapp has been the media/most fans favourite to take the England job. From day one i have dismissed that he is the best man for the job, Redknapp for me is someone who motivates the players well but tactically looks lost at times (plus the fact he loves to ruin clubs finances). Now from the day Capello left i was banging the Guus Hiddink drum but as we know he is at Anzhi and the FA want an English manager anyway. Now my personal view is that Roy Hodgson deserves the job (sorry WBA fans), he is more clued up tactically and knows the International scene really well having had spells with Switzerland, UAE and Finland. Any views?

Something I posted only a week ago, and before you ask no I don't work for the FA because I didn't think they would ever offer him the job as it seems the smartest option and we know the FA don't like to do that.
