Blackburn Rovers would like to make it known to everyone that, following relegation from the Premiership, Davie Bond has sold all of his shares in the club for ?1.
The new owners of the club are the fans themselves.
After a poor end to the season we ended up in 20th position, only picking up 3 points in the last 3 games.
First up in May was the six-pointer away to Everton. The winner of this game could probably escape from the drop zone and successfully avoid relegation. Unfortunately we never turned up and Everton were the far hungrier team. Adam Henley got a straight red after only 3 minutes to put us up against it from the start only for that goal scoring machine Jordan Rhodes to pop up and put us into the lead 4 minutes later. His 18th league goal of the season. From then on however, Everton made use of the extra man and eventually ran out 3-1 winners.
Next up was another away match. This time it was a trip down to London, to White Hart Lane to take on the Spurs. A fantastic performance from the Rovers was not expected and it was great to give the travelling fans something to cheer about after a poor season. Spurs opened the scoring after 2 minutes only for Peter Whittingham to equalise in the 7th minute. Seven minutes later and Spurs were in the lead again after Oliver had added to Lewis Holtby's opener. A close hard fought game continued with chances at both ends until Rudy Gestede ghosted in at the back post to tap in his 9th league goal to pull us level again. Not to be outdone, Jordan Rhodes pounced yet again in the 80th minute to put the Rovers fans into raptures as we won 3-2.
Last game of the season and we still had a chance of escaping the drop. A home match against 5th placed Man Utd, we needed to win. Javier Hernandez put the Reds one up after only 6 minutes and it was all uphill from then on. Player of the season, Jordan Rhodes gave us hope when he equalised midway through the first half. That was his 20th league goal of the season, 22nd in all competitions, a strike rate of just over a goal every 2 games. Only for Juan Mata to put Utd back in front in the second half and that was that for our season back in the Premiership.
Gianfranco Zola tendered his resignation after the Man Utd game and the following week Nigel Pearson was named as the new manager of Blackburn Rovers.
