Unbeaten Cardiff secure Premier League football for another season
View attachment 388318

Following a winless January, Cardiff City's fortunes improved where the bluebirds went unbeaten throughout February, and progressed to the 6th round of the FA Cup. We were pleased to get our revenge over Elton John's Watford by thrashing them 4-1 with a squad consisting largely of fringe players. A second slice of revenge was served up at Palace where we lost 3-0 earlier this season, with a 2-0 win.

Reporter: You've matched your points tally accumulated last season. A job well done or are you more ambitious?

Njmclare: Its a fantastic job, the players have performed well ever since Stefano became manager. I am very happy with our current position, however with the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Norwich breathing down our necks it will be difficult to secure a top six finish. I would be happy with a top ten position, but the higher we finish the more prize money we get so we will fight for every point.

Reporter: now that you are safe, any predictions for who will get relegated?

Njmclare: Unfortunately I think Watford might be down, they had a terrible month and still have some tough games remaining. I can't believe Everton are bottom. Maybe its down to the chosen one. It will be interesting to see if they replace Moyes, otherwise they could be down as well as it seems the players have lost interest. Finally West Brom will also finish in the bottom three. They went on a great run in February, however their run in to the end of the season looks tough. There are rumours they will be replacing their manager, in which case, they could do enough to escape the drop but it will be tight.

Reporter: Any transfer targets for the summer.

Njmclare: no targets yet. I've got a few videos to watch on youtube and we will speaking with their agents over the months to see if any deals can be made. We have however decide to give free transfers to Kenwyne Jones, Nicky Maynard and Jo Inge Berget. I was a little uneasy leaving jones in the squad incase the club secretary gave him another ludicrous contract. In wages we spent 1.4m on each of Kenwyns three league goals, only bettered by Nicky Maynards 2m wages for one goal. Money we could have done spending elsewhere. I do however look forward to see what team he signs for next. and don't forget...

"He's big,
he's bad,
He comes from Trinidad,
Kenwyne Jones, Kenwyne Jones!"

reporter: err, thanks for that. I bet kenwyne is happy with the pay out

Kenwyne: Yes I am!

njmclare: where did he come from?

February started well for us here at Blackburn with an away from home victory against Hull. On loan from Liverpool striker Gabriel Iancu scored the only goal of the game. David Marshall winning the man of the match award after an outstanding display in goal for us.

Unfortunately that was the only bright spot for us in the league as our form deserted us for the rest of the month.

Next we were at home against Newcastle, where a poor performance by everyone lead to a 0-2 defeat. Moussa Sissoko scored a very early goal for the Toon and we were chasing the game from then on. Only for Mehdi Abeid to catch us on the break and score to double their advantage over us. We had no reply and Newcastle travelled back up the road with all 3 points.

On the Tuesday night we were up against Liverpool at Anfield. Lavezzi scored after only 7 minutes to put us under the cosh yet again but the players rallied brilliantly and top scorer with 14 goals Jordan Rhodes levelled the match after 18 minutes. Only for Luis Suarez to score to give the Reds a lead going into half time. A close second half led to David Goodwillie (2) scoring with only 15 minutes left and it looked as if a draw was on the cards for us only for that man Suarez to pop up and hit the winner with 8 minutes left.

Time for the next round of the FA Cup and it was a home tie on St. Valentines Day against Chelsea. This would be our third meeting with the Blues this season, a loss and a draw being the previous results. Andre Schurrle gave Chelsea the lead after only 9 minutes but Gabriel Iancu hit an unstoppable shot in the 26th minute to earn us a replay at Stamford Bridge on the 4th March with the winners meeting Watford the following Saturday at Vicarage Road.

Back to league duty and we were away to struggling Arsenal. The only team struggling that day was us as they stuffed us 4-1. Theo Walcott hit a hat-trick with Victor Wanyama scoring the other goal. Our goal coming as a late consolation through David Goodwillie's diving header.

So a very poor month that has us sitting in 17th place in the Premiership and a decent run is needing to be put together to get us out of trouble. Lets hope that March is the month that it all comes together for us.

Getting back on track

Liverpool has done great business in the Premier League this month, having won all 4 league games. With Watford, Nottingham, Blackburn and Everton as opponents, Liverpool didn't have the most difficult games in February, but the team still did well to get the maximum amount of points from these matches. On top of that, Liverpool also progressed to the 2nd knockout round of the Europa League. Despite losing in the away game against Hannover 1-0, the team managed to turn the tides and get a great 2-0 win at Anfield. Russian team Kuban will be the next opponent of Liverpool in the Europa League. The only downside of February is the 1-0 away loss against Manchester United in the 5th round of the FA Cup, making the Europa League the only potential trophy left to win this season. Chairman Thompson has said to be happy though with the direction the club is heading in.

An awful month for Watford saw them taking no points from five matches, and left them just one point above the relegation zone. The performances from some of the new players left Elton John fuming at both them and his manager, who has gone from flying high, to one of the most likely managers in the league to be sacked. We tried to question Mr. John about who might be taking over, but he refused to give us an answer, instead remaining steadfast in his belief that managers should not be sacked at the slightest sign of trouble. He did however tell us that if the results did not improve, then his manager should be worried

1st March 2015

Neville Southall is outraged by his clubs current situation! I honestly don't understand how we have sucumb to this? We have strengthened our squad year on year, we are now considering if our (Southall and his associates) options. It is rumoured that it all comes downs to these final seven games, as the board have decided that if under Nevilles reign they drop out of the top division, they would buy him out of the club.

Well, it's certainly looks like doom and gloom for the Toffee, either way.

"We are also hearing rumours that Southall is looking into the possibility of sacking the manager in hope this may turn things around, currently in discussions with the FA in regards to hiring a free agent, issues in regards to the managers current qualifications, with Everton having been registered in the UEFA Europa League this season, the manager needs to surpass a Continental B License. We get back to you as soon as we hear anything further developments."

Arnie is ecstatic with Arsenal's recent form

Arsenal were lying in the relegation zone 2 months ago, there was fights between the manager and the chairman and an Injury list not seen since the battle of Hastings. Ex Man Utd Striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer quickly turned things around with 4 wins out of the last 5 matches which has propelled them up the table to 12th.

"I am very pleased with the effort the lads have put in in recent matches. I was starting to get worried while sitting in the drop zone. Luckily with our new (non-French) manager we have been able to settle the ship and strive towards where we are supposed to be."

"This year hasn't been as good as we expected but onwards and upwards, we will start preparing for next season once this one is over."

We asked who he believed would go down and he had this to say!

"Well Everton are in a very bad position but they have the talent and the manager to keep them up. I think it will go down to the wire but I think they will survive, however I would like them to go down so I steal a player or 2 on the cheap!!"

"My 3 to go down would be Palace, Watford and Blackburn....however we are still not safe and some bad results and we could be right back down there!!"

Big Birds February & March Update

View attachment 387478

Hello once again to the all the boys and girls
smile.gif

The past two months have been tough on the team, lots of injuries, and an unsettled midfield, has led to some very poor results, as well as some good wins.

February started with three straight defeats to Man Citeh, a resurgent Arsenal and The Palace.... Citeh dominated possession but we had more strikes at the onion bag (we learnt this expression from listening to Talk-***** - 1053/1089AM). Only N'Zonzi impressed for Fulham. Alex Buttner hurt his ankle in clash with Yaya Toure. Yaya, who has a stupid name, is now on the list of people we don't like.

At Arsenal we held out for 75 mins until they scored the one goal which decided the game. There was a whiff of offside surrounding it, but in fairness we're not 100% sure what the offside rule is.... Sky pundits Neville Neville and J'aime Redknapp seemed to think it was though, and who are we to disagree with their collective genius.

Against The Palace we were outplayed and outclassed in every department (they even had smarter uniforms). Ruben Pardo made his debut. Legendary offensive player Chamakh scored the winner. We were very disappointed to lose this game, but, we like The Palace and we hope they remain in the EPL for next season.

Since then we have gone on a five match unbeaten streak. This started with a frustrating draw against the Cardiff Dragons. Alex Buttner thought he was all better again, he wasn't, and hobbled off after just 4 minutes. Loan signing Romeu opened the scoring but the very impressive Lucas Romero equalized for the Welsh team. We understand he's being borrowed from Arsenal at the moment and, if FA rules permit, then we'll look to "tap-him-up" during the close season ahead of a proposed transfer to us in the summer.

We finally managed a win in our next game against Sherwood Forest. Having fallen one behind early in the second half we fought back in the last 12 minutes through goals from the Greek-guy-who's-name-i-can't-spell and Tom Ince.... This was our first win in six games and lifted some of the pressure off Coach Rafilla.

Back-to-back wins were then completed with a lucky win at What Ford. Three goals in the first 23 minutes, from that-Greek-striker-we-have, proved just enough to gain all three points despite a credible fightback from the home side to get it back to 2-3.... Well done to them and better luck next time.

Blackbird were up next and we were again lucky, this time to come away with a point. The ever reliable Jordan scored very early with a hotly disputed penalty. N'Zonzi equalized. Not much else to say on that game.

The month end with a 4-0 thumping of Swansea. Goals from the Greek lad, Evangelista, N'Zonzi and Ince completed our biggest win of the season. We gave the lads a couple of days off, in Disney World, after this to celebrate and relax.

We are now in 4th place, with 7 games to go.

April will be crucial with some big games against United, The San Antonio Spurs, Everton Toffees and Chelski. Top 5 seems all but certain, so it looks like we'll be going on a European vacation next season. But we should not start counting unhatched chickens etc..... and so we remain focused on doing the very best we can.

Bert and Ernie's Player Review

New signings Rybalka, Romeu and Juelsgard have certainly settled in and we're very happy with their progress. Player of month for Febuary & March is jointly awarded to Igor Akinfeev and Brede Hangeland. Young player of the month is Tom Ince. Most improved player is, again, Sam Byram.

Elmo's Transfer Update

Um, yeah, so, anyway..... Turns out that having FOUR central midfielders is not enough of our manager, so, he decided to loan Saul from Tottenham..... We didn't sanction this deal, and we'll be having very strong words with Mr Rafilla once he gets in from playing outside.... Don't do it again, otherwise you know which step you'll be made to sit on for a week.....

Cardiff consolidate

Cardiff City had a solid month as they look to keep hold of a top ten finish. The month started with a couple of tricky games against Man City in both the league and the cup. We managed to help out our friend at Chelsea by drawing 2-2 in the league. Unfortunately however we couldn't continue that form into the FA cup, and we lost 3-1.

We were disappointed to lose to Forest, however they have had a good debut season and have a good, young squad. So fair play to them. We put another nail into Blackburns coffin and secured our first victory of the month, with a feisty 1-0 victory, which saw 7 yellow cards issued.

Overall a good month, however I think the party we had to mark Kenwyne Jones expulsion was maybe ill judged as our players started the month slowly. Some tough fixtures in April with games against Man Utd and Spurs although hopefully we can start strongly against poor performing everton and swansea.

Predictions: Chelsea to win. Man city, Fulham and southampton for top 4. Everton, watford and palace for the drop. Wigan, villa and stoke for promotion.

March began with the FA cup Replay game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. In a reasonably close encounter, Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners after goals from Paul Pogba and Eden Hazard. And so it was Chelsea that went on to meet Watford in the next round and it was back to league business for us.

The next two games for us were very hard home matches against high flying duo, Fulham and Manchester City. Having lost our previous 3 league games we went into these fixtures in poor morale and not really looking forward to the final outcomes of each match.

Firstly 4th place Fulham at Ewood Park. Top goalscorer Jordan Rhodes hit his 15th goal of the season for us from a blatant penalty in the first minute. Although we are still trying to work out why Mark Clattenburg didn't even give the offender a yellow card, never mind a straight red, for the atrocious tackle that led to the penalty being given. That's 13 goals in the league for Jordan this year. We controlled the whole game from then on in and only a small mistake from the defence was cruelly punished in the second half when we allowed N'Zonzi in to equalise. That momentary slip of concentration could come back to haunt us as the season nears it end.

The following Wednesday it was second place Man City's turn to come to Ewood Park. Again that little rub of the green was missing for us as although we pounded City we just couldn't get the ball over the line and it ended up 0-0. Man City had most of the possession at 57%-43% but we had more shots at goal and on target than they did, 5 out of 10 compared with City's 2 out of 7.

We ended the month with an away trip to Wales to take on Cardiff. A poor performance from us with only four of our players managing to get ratings of 7 or more after the match. Goal scoring machine N'Djeng hit his 15th league goal for the Bluebirds in the first half and that was it. Jason Lowe's second yellow card in the second half finished off any chance of a comeback and the game petered out.

The next 5 games will make or break us. We play against teams in the bottom half of the table so these are games that we must win or at least take points from if we are to give ourselves the slightest chance of escaping from the relegation zone. Three more wins gets us to the magic figure of 40 points which is usually enough to survive in this league but unfortunately I think that that will not be enough for survival this season. Think that we will need 4 wins out of the last 7 games to be safe this year.

Predictions for this year

Premier League winners - Chelsea
Relegated - Everton, Watford & West Brom
Promoted - Wigan, Reading & Sheffield Wednesday

Some of these conferences are HILLARIOUS! Fulham's in particular! I think Evertaken, my old team, Wat the ford and Westey Brummies. I really want Hull Tiggers to go down. Man Citeh to win the league IMO and Ful(west)ham to sneak 2nd on the last day.
