Leicester City FC - (Early) August Review

AUGUST ROUND-UP (1/2)

Note: This post will be updated with Capital One Cup results and best player awards once I'm able to get back home and onto FM15!

Couldn't have asked for a better start from the team! 7 points out of a possible 9 is a great start for any team (especially when you've got Arsenal and Liverpool in your first three fixtures!), and most certainly is for a team predicted to finish just above the drop-zone pre-season! Now begins the hard work: keeping up this form to ensure we match or surpass our 9th place finish last year!

GAME SCORES

View attachment 917598

GW1:
Leicester City 0-0 Arsenal

A draw against a club of Arsenal's stature is a good result for a club such as ours, although a win would have been just perfect!

GW2: Sunderland 1-2 Leicester City

Got off to a terrific start thanks to goals from Kramaric and Long in the space of 12 minutes. Did concede one to Connor Wickham soon after, but managed to hold on till the end to seal the victory.

GW3: Leicester City 3-2 Liverpool

Poor start to this game as we were 2-0 down at the hour mark (thanks to Skrtel and Hendo), but a brilliant spell of seven minutes yielded three fantastic goals. Shane Long with a three-minute double and Leonardo Ulloa, last season's top scorer, netted the winner just four minutes after Long's second. What a comeback!

Current Position: 5th

Champions League watch: Currently level on points with Man Utd, Newcastle and Arsenal who are in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively. Hull City, meanwhile, are top of the table after a perfect August. What a start for them!

COMING SOON:

1. Capital One Cup results and draw!

2. The monthly player awards: Announcements of Players' Player of the Month and Fans' Player of the Month.

3. Squad Update: All the latest news on injuries, suspensions and the like.

4. The International Break: A comprehensive round-up of all our players on international duty.

5. A look-ahead to next month feat. Nigel Pearson: Previews of our September games. First up, a visit from Crystal Palace...

Go Foxes!

Aston Villa start of season update
View attachment 240103
Before we start this update, i would just like to say: He sold Enner Valencia. I will murder his babies. Sherwood, because he's brain damaged, sold our best player to inter milan. Oh dear oh dear oh dear. 20 goals in 32 games godamnit.

Our first competitive matches of the season was a couple of playoffs against some Azerbaijani team, Inter Baki. We wiped the floor with them, getting a 4 - 0 win at home and a 3 - 2 victory away. Our first premier league game, meanwhile was against Fulham. We won easily, Pelle and Benteke getting 2 and a consolation pen by Woodrow adding respectability to the scoreline. Next up, another europa league game, against KV Mechelen, a Belgian side. We won 2 - 0 at home, thanks to Wiemann and Pelle. Manchester United were our next opponents, they easily beat us 3 - 1, to be expected. We only got that goal because of a penalty however. Then came the return leg against Mechelen, who scored 2 against us after Silva was sent off. We managed to win on penalties however, to progress to the group stages. Finally, we went up against QPR. We somehow gave away a penalty in under 59 seconds, which Soldado slotted home. One of the league's surprise packages managed to rout us after Senderos was sent off, a Weimann goal making it 4 - 1 to them.

Overview
Well, not that promising honestly. The europa league is already fatiguing us, and Sherwood played N'zogbia as a target man against QPR. But the strangest decision of all, the root of all our problems was the sale of Valencia. How dumb can you be AI? HOW DUMB?!?!?!?

Liverpool Update
A disaster start for us. Only 3 points so far and I am not impressed with marcelo bielsa's style and tactic. I feel his 3-4-3 is too negative. He will only get one more month to prove himself.

Matches
After a good start against everton, we immedietly went into a badform. We lost to hull, ipswich and leicester. This 3 matches is must win match but marcelo bielsa failed to win any of them.

Transfers
I am not happy how he decided to sell marco verratti as he can become a good player. He bought lars bender which is doing well but he spend too much money on just one player.

Expectations next month
get at least 7 points
get a draw with man city and win cardiff and reading

Fantastic first month. Absolute massive win over City. Great start for West Brom.

full update coming tommorow losing the community shield and to west brom not a great start =(

AUGUST ROUND-UP (2/2)
View attachment 240009
2nd Round: Leicester City 2-1 Bristol City
LCFC scorers: Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater (penalty)

Next Round: Leicester City vs Arsenal, King Power Stadium

UPCOMING LEAGUE GAMES

Following the international break, we first welcome Crystal Palace to the King Power Stadium. The Eagles are in 9th place at the time of writing, and this should be a hard fought game.

The next gameweek sees us travel to Stoke to play the 20th ranked Potters at the Brittania Stadium. This will be a hard one as Stoke will be desperate to put their slow start to the season behind them.

Following the midweek Capital One Cup game against Arsenal, we travel to Craven Cottage to take on newly promoted Fulham, in what should be yet another tough game.

There is no reason why we cannot win all the league games in this month, but I'm hoping for 2 wins as a bare minimum.

SQUAD UPDATE

We are glad to note that no players are suspended as of now. We also only have three injuries (Erik Pieters, Patrick van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp) but they should be fit by the end of the international break.

PLAYER AWARDS

Both awards (Fans' Player of the Month and Players' Player of the Month) go to the one and only Shane Long!

HULL FLYING HIGH!!!
Preseason: Don't really care, but 6 wins, including a 4-1 against Valencia, and 1 draw.

August:
Hull 2-1 Sunderland
Great way to start off the season, New signings Kroehn- Delhi and Stuani got some debut goals. Possession was even, but we had loads of shots.

Liverpool 0-2 Hull
Huge win at Anfield, Dame N'Doye bagged a brace

Hull 3-2 Chesterfield (Capital One Cup)
Chesterfield went up early in the first half, then late in the 2nd half N'Doye bagged a brace, and Gnabry made it 3-1, before Chesterfield scored a late consolation. We go away to Crystal Palace next.

Hull 2-1 Stoke
Hernandez scores early in the first half, cancelled out minutes later by Stoke Livermore won it early in the 2nd half, and a few minutes later Mcgreggor was sent off, but that had no effect on the outcome.

1st place in the league, is far more than I had expected, I am sure we won't be there for long, but at least we know we won't be in a relegation battle. Fulham at home and Crystal Palace and United away next month, plus Crystal palace away in the COC. Drew Carey is happy

Sunderland chairman stranded in tent with his family.

He didn't have time to say much however he has stated it was always going to be an early season struggle with so many new faces in the team. However he is pleased that we have points on the board and is looking forward to what the seasons brings as the team starts to gel.

From what he can see Everton Ribeiro has been somewhat of a revelation since joining the club picking up 3 man of the match awards even though two of the games he was involved in were losses.

Phillips has said he will give a more detailed report once he returns from this torrid camping trip.

Arsenal start of season update.

The Gunners make promising start

In an active summer in the Premier League, Arsenal's summer was about suring up the defence, as well as getting rid of some deadwood. We managed to half-achieve those goals while sticking to our conservative spending-policy.
Transfers
Transfers In:
View attachment 239704
Jose Gaya,Valencia - Fee: £18.5M
We spent big on a new left back, when we've already got the best left back in the league. Some may see this as a big risk, but we have high hopes that Arsene will see fit to rotate Jose and Leighton Baines, to make sure that Gaya gets game time. In a year or two, Jose will be the best left back in the world.

View attachment 239703
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, FC Barcelona - Fee: £10.5M
Despite Szczesny having a decent season last year, we felt that competition for the #1 spot was needed. And bringing in possibly the most talented keeper available out there, for a mere £10M could well be considered a bargain. Marc-Andre is already a very solid stopper, and at 23, he is 2 years younger than Wojciech as well, and should give us a very solid keeper for years to come.

View attachment 239702
Mateo Musacchio, Villareal - Fee: £15M
This deal was completed by mr. Wenger while Prince Harry was busy on holiday, so the Prince was very surprised to see him at the club when he returned, as he asked kindly to get notice of any deals made in his absence. Despite this, it might turn out to be a good deal after all, as this gives us 4 very good CB's, but unfortunately, only weeks after signing, Mateo broke his leg in a friendly, and will be missing the next 4 months of football.

View attachment 239700

Matteo Darmian, Torino - Fee: £12M
It was all about the Mat(t)eos this summer for mr. Wenger, as he also signed versatile Italian international Darmian from Torino. This signing was one that Prince Harry raged about when he got home from holiday, as it was in big conflict with his other plans for the fullbacks. Arsenal now have an abundance of defenders and may well be seen looking to make some movements on that part in January. Matteo was also unlucky in pre-season, and suffered strained knee ligaments, missing 4 weeks of football.

Transfers OUT:

Joel Campbell - Aston Villa: £6.5M:
I feel both parts got a decent deal here. Villa get a good winger, and we get rid of a player that would struggle to get game time at a good price.
Carl Jenkinson - Sunderland: £3.5M: We continue our good relationship with Sunderland, making negotiations very profitable for both parts. Carl was deemed not needed at the Emirates, but is still a decent quality fullback in the PL, and should be able to win a good spot at Sunderland.
David Ospina - Sunderland: £3.5M: Sunderland may well have gotten a bargain here. With Ter Stegen coming in, and Leali in the reserves, David was, unfortunately, without a shot of playing time. But we might well regret this decision when David tries to stop us later on in the season, as the Colombian is still a quality player.
Natxo Monreal - QPR: £4.5M: After signing Gaya and Darmian, there was no way Natxo could get playing-time. He will do well at QPR, who look to be building a very solid team this season.
Winston Reid - West Ham: £5.5M: It is always a pleasure dealing with relatives, and when Musacchio was signed, Reid was 5th or 6th choice CB here, but he ticked all the boxes at Commonwealth Ham. A good deal for both parts, sending Reid back where he played 1 year ago.
Yaya Sanogo - Crystal Palace: £500K: Not needed, Crystal Palace needed some backup. Fairly straight forward deal.
Lukas Podolski - Rubin Kazan: £2.3M: At the end of the window, mr. Wenger made some moves to make the playing squad an acceptable size. One of the moves was selling Lukas to Russia. We had to take a major price cut on the German, but getting rid of his £100K/week wages made the deal worthwhile.
Hatem Ben Arfa - Real Sociedad: £3.9M: After signing on a free, I am not too downhearted at letting Hatem go, but would have liked mr. Wenger to negotiate a slightly higher fee for the Frenchman. But this will leave room for our younger players to develop.
Loic Remy - Napoli: £3.9M: A deal that really leaves me puzzled. We did not need to sell Loic, as he was more than happy playing a backup role to great effect last season. He is only 28, so why should we have accepted such a low fee? If we got £15M for him then sure, but this deal leaves me with great doubts about the ability of mr. Wenger to negotiate to the best interests of the team.

Loans out:
Richairo Zivkovic - Sunderland:
A good match for both sides. Richairo gets first team football from a team that we have a good relationship with, and Sunderland get a quality striker, for a low weekly wage.
Diafra Sakho - QPR: Diafra gets a move after we failed to move him on permanently this summer. QPR get a quality backup striker, and perhaps Diafra can impress enough to earn himself a permanent move. He did score 14 on loan at relegated Burnley last season.
Hector Bellerin - Leicester: I think Hector has every chance to make that right back spot at Leicester his own this year, so this is of great benefit to the player as well as Leicester.
Serge Gnabry - Hull: Serge needs playing time, and hopefully there will be opportunities at Hull for the quick German.

Results
Premier League:
Leicester 0 - 0 Arsenal
A stuttering start as no team managed to make the breakthrough in an even game. A draw was a fair result, so fair play to Leicester. Good to see Bellerin playing 90 minutes, but it was the usual fullback-suspect that won the MoM award.
MoM: Leighton Baines - 9.0 Rating

Arsenal 4 - 2 Reading
We managed to find our shooting boots here against impressive promoted team Reading. Ramsey gave us an early lead, but nomadic striker Robbie Keane, who was quoted saying he was delighted at making his debut for his boyhood dream club, Reading, equalized just before the break. Our Cameroonian beast, Aboubakar, who will play a bigger part in the squad this year, gave us the lead back straight after the break, and Alexis doubled our lead only 8 minutes later. Keane was not done however, as he expressed his joy at finally playing for his all-time favourite squad, making it 3-2 with 27 minutes to go. But last years big surprise performer, Santi Cazorla, kept up his great form, killing the game off with 10 minutes to go.
MoM: Alexis Sanchez - 8.3 Rating

Cardiff 1 - 3 Arsenal
We beat another promoted team here, and have started the league season well. An early Sterling goal, as well as goals from Sturridge and Ozil gave us a deserved win. A late Kenwyne Jones goal did cause some tantrums for Szczesny, who was hoping to keep his spot, with Ter Stegen returning from injury.
MoM: Leighton Baines - 9.1 Rating
Champions League Playoff:
Arsenal 3 - 0 Besiktas
We drew Turkish side Besiktas in the last qualifying stage, and disposed of them in the first leg, despite Mamadou Sakho managing to get sent off. Second half goals from Aboubakar, Sanchez and Wilshere all but secure qualification.
MoM: Mesut Ozil - 8.4 Rating

Besiktas 0 - 2 Arsenal
Another professional job. Sterling, as well as Wilshere again, gave us another goal and another clean sheet. Unfortunately, this meant Jack's luck was up. He limped off with what turned out to be a torn hamstring right before the end, and will miss at least 3 months of football.
MoM: Laurent Koscielny - 8.6 Rating.
Champions League Group Draw:
Arsenal
Dortmund
Monaco
PSV

About the hardest draw we could have gotten. We get two very strong teams in Monaco and Dortmund, as well as the reigning Dutch Champions in PSV. We will have to focus our efforts to make it through to the knockout stage.

Conclusion:
We have had a kind start to the season, but have still performed well. The only down-side was not stealing a win from the Foxes. But now the real test starts. We have some really tough games in October beginning with Chelsea at the Bridge, straight after the international-break. We then face Monaco at home in mid-week, then Man City at home, which is sure to be a tight affair, as they seek to rectify their horrible season start. We also have away games at PSV and Leicester, in the CL and Capital One Cup respectively, as well as a must-win game at home to much-improved West Brom. Truly a do or die-month ahead of us!

Now don't go and do something silly on deadline-day Arsene!

Pre-Season:
View attachment 239686 The squad had a good pre-season with some great results against lower tier teams. These wins are a good morale boost to start the new season.

Premier League: Aston Villa - Fulham
View attachment 239681Goals: Woodrow (pen)
The first match of the season results in a deserved loss for us against a strong Aston Villa.

Premier League: Fulham - Tottenham
View attachment 239679Goals: Woodrow x2
A great result in our first home game of the season against Tottenham. Woodrow scored both goals and has now already scored three in the first two games.

Captital One Cup 2nd Round: Yeovil - Fulham
View attachment 239678Goals: Mitroglou, Henriksen
A decent result against League 1 side Yeovil in the Capital One Cup. Henriksen scores his first official goal for the club since moving here in July.

Premier League: Newcastle - Fulham
View attachment 239677Goals: -
We got smashed by Newcastle in the final game of the month.

Premier League Standings:
View attachment 239676The win against Tottenham is enough to stay clear of relegation for now, which is the main goal of this season.

Next month:
View attachment 239675Next month will be tough, going up against Hull and Leicester in the league, who both had very good starts to the season, and Everton, who is never to be underestimated. We also get drawn Chelsea to play against in the 3rd round of the Captital One Cup, which will be very difficult.

August - Man city

A poor month all round

We started with a 4-1 loss to west ham in the community shield not a priority for us especially after winning it last year but 4-1 to west ham is poor by our standard caulker is the biggest culprit having a very poor debut.
Next we get to face west ham again at home however we couldn’t score and injuries to silva and zabaleta in the match are pretty disheartening aswell. 0-0

A big game against our rivals Chelsea could have a significant shame on the season. We were away from home. Chelsea scored two goals early on in lucas pratto showing us what we could have had pellegrini particularly annoyed as this suggested was ignored by sporting director joshster. However yaya toure pulled a rabbit out of hat scoring two goals before the second hand earning us a point.

Finally a 2-1 loss to west brom sums up a disappointing month with questions over the manager given fernandinho starting upfront…

This is a poor start however there’s no need to panic the new signings will take time to settle and while man city supporters may not be blown away with excitement with our summer signings they were necessary to add depth and increase our number of home grown players.

Currently lying in 17th pellegrini has plenty of time to pull it around before we become the next Liverpool however sticking to 4-4-2 and playing a central midfielder up front isn’t going to win him any favours, while earning himself a one year extension questions remain whether he has the full support of sporting director joshster given it was not his recruitment choice merely the manager who was in charge at the time.

In terms of possible January transfers expect to see rekik to go either permanently or on loan with possible loan placements for barker and gerson as well. In terms of the first team time will tell if clichy will get much game time and whether his happiness will drop as a result while fernandinho and possibly dzeko could also be making their way out of eithad park sooner rather than later. September Update

Great to see most of the chairmen getting an update posted! Fantastic!

A chairman update should be done at least once every 2 monthly game updates. For example, those who have posted an update for August are under no pressure to post one for September but those who didn't should be looking to post one.

Man city September Update

Another disappointing month for us

Losses to Liverpool and Bayern while not embarssing for the club are games we should be contesting and performing better in especially given the target of progression in the champions league losing to Bayern is disappointing even if less unexpected.
Draws to Sunderland and Arsenal cant argue with a point against arsenal sunderland though is another place where 2 points are dropped rather than one gained

Wins at Bate and Newcastle (capital cup) is our saving grace bate being in the champions league was a must win game while the carling cup is not important for us this year and win is always nice

Sadly this has not been the start we had all been hoping for and more questions are starting to be asked of pellegrini and sporting director joshster with questions over whether his summer transfer policy has been successful. But before analysing transfers in fairness to pellegrini and man city a big reason of their poor form is injuries with long term injuries haven affected several big players for the club such as

Schniderlin broken leg 6 months
Joe hart out for 1 month
Aguero out for 2 months

Aguero and hart are especially going to hit us hard and new signing schniderlin broken leg is a shame especially as he just joined the club and was playing well in the appearances he has been in so far. Hopefully other players can fill the void while they are absent from the team.

Ben amos our number 2 goalkeeper while may not be good enough on paper performances wise has been playing above expectation with an average rating of 7.30.

Managala and bony have been especially poor this month and will need to improve if they are to stay at this club.
In terms of evaluating transfers caulker, Schniderlin and rodriguez are all a step up on former personnel of demichellis, lampard and clichy (still at the club) and improve a city’s home grown status while significantly bringing our average age down. While not a high profile signing such as in recent years is what their squad needs and all have been performing to a satisfactory level. Expect a marquee signing to come next year.

Pellegrini will be given another month to turn things around before we start to look elsewhere.
