So I am feeling pretty smug right now. The appointment of Laurent Blanc has worked a treat! 7 Games this month and we are officially undefeated for the first month this season!

Hull 0 - 0 Aston Villa​

We perhaps clung on slightly for this game without creating too much but an important point against a good side, with a clean sheet to boot. James Ward-Prowse does seem to be continuing at right back though. oO)

Hull 3 - 1 Leicester (FA Cup)​

A great win in the 3rd round of the cup against big spending Leicester. A first goal for new recruit Moussa Sissoko as well a goal each for Carlos Mane and Curtis Davis secured our place in the 4th round after a good game.

Tottenham 0 - 3 Hull​

The result of the month by far. To go away to White Hart Lane and come back with the 3 points and a clean sheet is a huge achievement. During the transfer window I wanted to bring in some fresh goal scoring potential and it seems to have worked. Another goal for Sissoko who makes it two in two as well as a goal for Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson gave us a great start before Berahino polished it off nicely. Not only did we win, but dominated the match as well and arguably were the better team.

Hull 1 - 1 Crystal Palace​

Another point in the bag in a tough game against Palace. Robert Snodgrass chipped in with our equaliser just moments after Kenedy opened the scoring for them.

Hull 2 - 0 Brentford (FA Cup)​

We march on in the cup. Berahino grabs a brace for us as we breeze past Brentford and into the 5th round.

Stoke 1 - 3 Hull​

And the results just keep on going our way. A hatrick for Christian Stuani was enough to secure three more points and drag us out of the relegation zone.

Leicester 2 - 2 Hull​

Next up was a trip to Leicester who were obviously keen to take revenge for their cup defeat. Twice we came from behind to earn a point with Berahino scoring the first and Robert Snodgrass grabbing a late equaliser to ensure our undefeated month.

Chairmans player of the month​

Moussa Sissoko has been a monster since he signed for us and has already paid back a huge lump of his £5.5 mil transfer fee. Seven games for the tigers have seen him score twice and assist once with an average rating of 7.2. Keep it going Moussa!


Honourable mentions as well for make-shift right back James Ward-Prowse and hitman Sadio Berahino. Berahino in particular is unlucky to miss out this month after scoring four goals for the club.

January was an extremely busy month for the team, with 8 games in total including games against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as the start of our FA Cup campaign, a competition we were looking to do well in with no European competitions this season.

However, it was not a very successful month, with just 2 wins out of 8 as we dropped points in the league and went out of the FA Cup in the 4th Round after beating Sunderland in a replay. In the league, a home loss to Manchester United was followed by a draw with Chelsea. A very disappointing loss to QPR meant we needed to win our final couple of games to stay in the hunt for the European spots. We managed to beat Newcastle, but a draw against Aston Villa meant we sit down in 10th.

That is below our expectations and that coupled with our FA cup exit means manager Tony Pulis' job is currently under review.

Hammer of the Month

Stewart Downing has been our player of the month with plenty of strong performances from centre-midfield despite it not being his preferred position. His 7 assists in the league this season shows this.

Tony Pulis Sacked and Replaced by Roberto Martinez

After losing out in the FA Cup and dropping into 10th position in the league, Sir Geoff Hurst has made the first managerial change of his tenure as West Ham chairman, with Tony Pulis being sacked by the World Cup winner. It has been reported that Pulis was never his first choice and was looking for an opportunity to bring in a new man more in line with his footballing philosophies.

Replacing Pulis is former Everton manager Roberto Martinez, who joins the club after a stint with Real Sociedad in his native Spain. After having lead Everton into Europe in the past, Sir Geoff will be hoping hope he can have the same effect at West Ham as they look to push for European places.

The Spaniard will also be encouraged to play a less direct style of play than the previous manager Pulis, who was known is his rigid route one style of play.

Sir Geoff commented: "Tony has been a great servant to the club but we felt it was the time for a change in manager as we look to not stagnate and push towards Europe. Roberto is a top manager and we feel he is the ideal man to do that."​

Slutskiy fired as Arsenal manager

In a press conference today, Arsenal Chairman Prince Harry revealed that Russian manager Leonid Slutskiy has been relieved of his duties as Arsenal Manager.

As a result of the poor results over the last couple of months, and less than convincing signings made by the Russian, the players had lost faith in his project, and Prince Harry stated that he felt the move was one forced upon him by the circumstances.

Prince Harry wasted no time in revealing that the new manager of Arsenal will be former Inter, Sunderland and Fiorentina manager; Vincenzo Montella. Montella is a young and up and coming manager who wants his sides to play attacking attractive football, which is very in mold with the Arsenal way.

We look forward to backing Vincenzo up in the summer, and have great faith that he will turn this ship around, and once again create excitement at the Emirates!

Maybe Vincenzo will be kind to his former employer during the summer transfer window. If he can win the Capital One Cup with the us I'm sure he will lead you to glory.
 
I probably won't be able to do an update until Sunday. I'm just a lot busier than I should've been this week. I'll obviously try to get an update done before then, but Sunday is for definite :)
 
Aston Villa Update
Our first match of December was against QPR. We managed to scrape a 1 - 1 draw. We probably could've - and should've - won, but QPR have a strong team so I suppose I'll take a draw.

Sunderland was up next. They also have a pretty strong team, but I'm disappointed with a 3 - 1 loss.

After two poor results, we faced Chelsea in the Capital One Cup Quarter Final. I wasn't hopeful, especially as they played a very strong side. However we managed a shock 2 - 0 result, thanks to new signing Diafra Sakho

West Brom at home was our opponent after that great result. I was confident that we should be able to manage a win, but we lost 1 - 0 thanks to an early James Wilson goal. Sadly it was a sign of things to come.

Arsenal wasn't going to be easy either, but it was only thanks to a Coutinho penalty they managed to win 2 - 1.

Cardiff beat us by that same scoreline, with a penalty adding a bit of respectability.

Swansea then thumped us 3 - 1, in another awful result. It was the score that broke the camel's back, and after a winless month Pearson was fired and experienced former Roma and Atletico Madrid manager Rudi Garcia brought in.

For the Frenchman's first game, we faced Hull. A 0 - 0 draw was a disappointing start, but I imagine Garcia was simply adjusting to English football.

In the FA Cup 3rd round meanwhile, we comfortably beat Sheffield United 3 - 1 to progress further in the competition.

Middlesbrough gave us our first victory in the league since the end of November. A 2 - 1 result was a good sign for our new manager, but there was no time to dwell on it as we faced Man City next.

Predictably, they battered us 5 - 1. They were 10 times better than us and fully deserved the result.

Liverpool in the Capital One Cup was next. I wasn't expecting anything considering the battering we just got handed by City, but we managed an astonishing 3 - 2 victory at Anfield!

We then faced Huddersfield in the other cup, the FA Cup, and they shocked us with a 3 - 1 victory. Disappointing, but we can now focus on the COC and the league.

Liverpool then came to Villa Park, and we managed a 0 - 0 draw. We were through to the finals, against Manchester United!

To cap that amazing result off, we managed to draw 1 - 1 against West Ham, looking forward to facing United at Wembley.

So, after all that we're 16th in the league but with 2 games in hand against Cardiff with 4 more points than us, and 1 against Newcastle who also have 4 more than us. With a couple of wins we could potentially go up to as high as 12th. We made no transfers in the January window, however midfielder Carlos Sanchez left for Independite in December.

Stoke still stumble


A big win at Arsenal was all we had to sing about this month. Swanse aput us out of the Cup and we lost to Hull & Man City while managing to graba draw at Swansea. Wins over Cardiff & Middlesbrough were not enough to keep us in the top 10 however



Two signings
Marcelo Meli & Victor David join the club, both midfielders. Meli has played and scored for us already while David has gone off to Portugal on loan for the rest of the season.

A great month. 9 games, progression in both cups and a return to the top of the league! That awfully strange visit from QPR at the start of the month is long forgotten.

Coming Up

I nearly fainted until i saw we had 3 games in hand on most.....

Update will be in the morning some time.
 
It's really annoying because Spurs are playing so well, they just keep dropping points to prevent us getting into the top four. Hopefully we can make a good push in the last ten games.
 
No one can accuse Montella of playing boring football, 11 goals scored in his first 3 games!
