So, moving on from "lul Jagielka MEDIA LIES" bollocks, what's everyone's 23 man squad?

It's trickier than I thought it'd be.

Hart, Ruddy, Forster

Baines, Cole, Cahill, Jagielka, Smalling, Jones, Walker, Johnson

Gerrard, Carrick, Wilshere, Henderson, Lallana, Milner, Oxlade, Sterling

Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck, Rodriguez

It's a toughie. Leaving out Barry is harsh but I think his time's up internationally. Lambert's also a bitter pill to swallow. Townsend hasn't played enough, and I'd have loved to pick someone like Caulker, Davies or Tomkins or especially Huddlestone to bring in a new generation, but there's not enough space.

Henderson MUST go, and I think Welbeck should too 'cause he always raises his game. Rodriguez should be on the plane as well. Davies deserves it on form but has a lack of international experience counting against him.

I have to admit I'm struggling apart from the obvious choices. It is a tough one to call tbh

Was this forum your CV?

And Everton have the joint 2nd best defensive record in the league with Arsenal and City. You don't get that with a dodgy CB.

My CV was mostly "PLEASE GIVE ME FREE ACCESS TO OPTA STATS PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEEEEASE"

Looking at your squad think that you have nailed it to be fair

barring the usual 83 metatarsal injuries we usually get that when happen to said star players turn ordinary guys in the pub into physiotherapists

Thing is, even if we do, we've actually got an unusual depth of quality this time round. Hart gets injured, Ruddy and Forster are more than serviceable. Baines goes down, we have Cole, Gibbs and Shaw. If Carrick gets injured, Henderson or Huddlestone can start. If Lallana gets injured, Oxlade or Welbeck can step in. Our backups, for once, aren't of vastly inferior quality to our starters, so that's heartening to see.

Agree with you about Townsend, I'd say it's almost nailed on he goes if fit though.

Think you might be right. Hodge likes him a lot and he plays well internationally so eh, fair enough I guess.

No England team is complete without Mike Williamson.

I might get jumped on for saying this but I'd take Barry instead of Carrick.

Think he will. He's not Spain's best right or left back, but he's their only one who can play both.

The **** are you on about? Jagielka's one of our best CBs and he's been great for about half a decade now.

Yeah you say that, but you just did. :P
Arbeloa can also play on both sides of the defence.

John Stones will be one to keep an eye on aswell-showing a lot of potential
Yeah, I agree, he was very good against us keeping Su?rez quiet!

Gerrard's played pretty well as the holding player, plus Chamberlain and Wilshere are hard-workers, so you would like to think we could manage. I've got Henderson in their because of his work-rate, and the fact that if he can keep up his current form until the Italy game, his runs could create the game-winning space for us.

Plus I think alot of Liverpool's awful defensive record is down to individual mistakes, mainly by their centrebacks.

Who would you in centre-mid next to Gerrard? (If Gerrard at all?)
Phil Jones should be a good centre-midfield partner to Gerrard, as he's solid defensively. If we play on the counter-attack against Italy (as I think we should do), then Jones will help the defence and Gerrard can ping those balls forward.

Walker, Cahill, Caulker, Jagielka, Dawson, Jones, Shaw, Baines

Gerrard, Huddlestone, Henderson, Wilshere, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sterling, Townsend

Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck, Rodriguez

We could line-up like so:
Hart
Walker - Cahill - Caulker - Baines
Gerrard - Jones
Sterling - Rooney - Welbeck
Sturridge

Not taking Cole would be a mistake, IMO. He's not been getting games and he's not the player he used to be, but he'd be good backup and has vast amounts of international experience.

I know, but I just feel Baines and Shaw deserve it more and will do better. It's time we got rid of a lot of the old guard, who've underperformed at international level for so long, and it's fantastic that we have good replacements for them.

Big call.

Also the wrong call. :P

Oh god please no. I like Phil Jones but he should be nowhere near the England team as a midfielder. Not that he's bad at it, but Jordan Henderson offers everything he does but with the added capability to actually do something offensively too.

Only one specialist right-back, no Carrick and playing Phil Jones over Wilshere and Huddlestone? It's bold, I'll give you that.

Great backup, yes, though I'm split between taking him and Gibbs. Good as Cole has always been for England, he's not getting any games, and I'm loathe to give someone a spot in the squad if they're not getting minutes. In my eyes he JUST has the edge of Gibbs, but I'd feel bad doing it.

Jones is a fantastic midfield option if you enjoy watching a ball magically advance 10 yards as soon as it even contemplates touching his foot.

I may be biased as he's playing for Everton right now but his distribution has been very good, he's been pretty good defensively and even notched in a few goals and assists. Still a pretty long way to go but I believe leaving Barry out would be very harsh judging by his recent form.

The problem with Gibbs is that he's an njury waiting to happen. While Johnson can play LB if need be you'd ideally want a left back playing, well, left back.

Thing is, he's great against most opposition, but he just can't keep up that form in big games. He doesn't have the legs any more. It's sad but true.

Gibbs hasn't had a serious injury in ages.
