Shutter Island - 5/10. The only good point was Leanardo DiCaprio putting in a good performance, in a poor film
Hmm would you care to explain what was poor about it?
SHUTTER ISLAND. Not what you could call a typical Martin Scorsese film, nevertheless this was enjoyable and full of strange twists right up until the end. Id sort of guessed the main twist but that was mainly because i had seen a similar thing in an episode of the Twilight Zone. The main story plot is about a US Marshall (Leonardo DiCaprio) who goes to a mysterious lunatic asylum on Shutter Island in search for an escaped patient. Very enjoyable film. 8/10
I agree, 8/10 from me as well which (despite making me fall asleep) was very enjoyable and intriguing. Would of been a 9/10 if there wasn't a Calculon moment.
Previously I'd heard of a lot of people saying the film was a let down because the main twists were obvious. I feel they're missing the point, the twists are supposed to be predictable with a lot of clues (marhsall who can't handle a gun, interview scenes, etc..) and impressive build up to each one. This is Scorsese not M. Night Shyamalan.
Really edge of your seat stuff, with the plot twisting and turning all the time while not being too sudden. Each time it took a turn it really felt balanced and that it wasn't just trying to **** with your mind.
Really loved the ending as well. He had finally come to terms with the tragedy of his family's murder, but chose to be lobotomised because he couldn't cope with the weight of his and his wife's actions. Or maybe he did actually turn crazy again, who knows.
