I agree with everyone here really, keep it more or less the same, just with qualifying if enough people are interested the next time it comes, which i'm sure there will be!

I mean the way I'm thinking of it, top four teams from previous competition automatically qualify, then there are twelve groups of 3 (so 36 more people!) who play each other twice, so four matches total, with the winner of the group advancing. Seeding is determined based on points, GD, GS.

What I was thinking, was that maybe there could be just the 1 top seed for the losing QFs and 2nd and 3rd in the GS from this tournament (If they don't re-enter, then replace with 4th, if they don't, draw a random person), and then the others will be randomised. This will prevent it being any groups where there are 3 QFs from this tournament, and it will still produce magic as an unknown may qualify ahead of the QF from this time?

Just an idea though

Could you elaborate a little bit? Not sure I understand what you are saying :p

So in qualifying, the 4 losing Quarter Finalists and the 3rd and 4th place teams in the Group Stage (All returning people) will get 1st seed in the draft, so they don't draw against each other (If one doesn't, put a random new member there). This won't take away the magic and unredictability as anything can still happen, and we don't want to see all of the strong people go out straight away. :)

Haha, but why do that? 1) There are plenty of strong competitors who aren't in this edition who have expressed interest (such as Coolmcool etc.) AND that does take a bit away from the unpredictability as it is not truly random who you face. Plus, it would be way more interesting if say, me you and Lippo are in the same qualifying group; sure, two of us go out, but I guarantee that those four matches would be VERY competitive and at the same time FULL of banter as well. I quite like the randomness and again, the FMBWC is supposed to be the strongest of the strong, which is why only the winning teams qualify. Sure, maybe there are some upsets in the qualifying groups, but ultimately, if you are good enough, then you should find a way to make it to the groups :)

EDIT: And I hope you meant 1st seed in the draw, as there is no qualifying draft, that would be a nightmare!

So, will 2nd round fixtures start as soon as borne & taskers play or will there be a round update/summary & then fixtures can start?

From the looks of things, Born and Taskers will play on Wednesday. Wednesday night, I will write a round update and summary, so by Thursday everyone should be set to play (round will officially start as soon as I post a summary and round 2 previews :) )

EDIT: I know it's a long wait, so I encourage practice matches throughout this time period or maybe reviews of some matches from you all in the meantime. Cheers and sorry for the inconvenience!

Hey guys, have only just woken up and I have a question to ask; do you think any of you could write some first round reviews minus Born and Taskers's game just to fill up time between now and Wednesday? Cheers!

I don't know how I feel about this for qualifying. A straight knock out where teams are randomly drawn sound more more practical to me. If there's a qualifying group, ther'd have to be a qualifying draft since you're asking people to play 4 matches. If you're not going to use a draft there, then it asks why use a draft at all in the tournament? I think you're making it too complicated.

I see where you are coming from, but if its only one knockout round, or even two legs in that round, doesn't that not give everyone enough of a chance to qualify? I mean, it's only one round, so one chance..

How about maybe making a league rather than a knockout tournemant?
Seeing as how all other FM-Base leagues have mostly fizzled out after a bit, keeping it shorter and more competitive in a group and knockout format seems a bit better IMO as it's more succinct and players don't have to play 20+ games.

Two legged knock outs are good enough for the champions league Group stage qualifications..... :P

But there are multiple rounds of qualifying :p

To be honest, I don't really mind. I just think it's strange to have a group stage with chosen teams (or everyone uses City, Barce, ect) and then have a draft for the final 16. I think it's complication for the sake of complication. Whatever you choose do do, fair enough but there has been one sentiment emanating from everyone when you've asked what needs to change: "Nothing much, keep it simple"

It is probably best to leave it until you open up the next game and see how many people are interested. It will then be easier to organise a system as some people declaring interest now, might not be in 4 months time or whenever the next game starts!

Yea I see what you guys mean, it is extra complication, I'll have a think and based on interest I'll design a simple system to solve for this.

I had a thought, not sure if I can share...

But my idea would have been, that for the qualifying you are wanting to implement, all the qualifiers get one team, whether that be through random selection or contestant agreed and use that in a single leg elimination format, thereby getting your group candidates.

Following on from this for the main rounds, a draft as this edition is made, a few changes implemented to streamline and speed up the process, which from this edition was well managed.

From there on in, play the games, get the results, continue on till 1 manager is left standing.

Let me know what you guys think of that?

Let me know if you need a hand either way :)
Definitely will you know it ;)

Hmm Idk one leg doesn't really sound like enough of a chance... any qualifying fixture would have at least two legs in it for sure. And, as Brendn said, not everybody will want to play with the same team, so why not let them play with whatever team they want, and if they have any sense, they'll pick the best team that they play the best with :)
