Finally the game was completed!

Wanyama's in Pyjamas win!

In what was an end to end game from start to finish Wanyama's in Pyjamas prevailed in their opening match against Multiple Scoregasm FC.
The game got off to a flying start with Willian scoring twice inside 7 minutes to put WIP in a very commanding position however with an earlier substitution from Manager Bornexplorer88 Multiple Scoregasm FC soon found themselves back in the tie with a goal from Andre Schurrle.

After the restart both goalkeepers pulled off some top draw saves to keep both their sides in the game. However, WIP were soon able to open the gap up to two goals again when Loic Remy found the net.

Soon though Karim Benzema scored again to set up a nervy finish before in the last 5 minutes Yohan Cabaye stepped up to but the game to bed and end the game 4-2.

As has been the common theme of this tournament so far the game was played in good spirits and if it wasn't for Petr Cech the game may have ended with a very different scoreline.

I just wanted to say thanks quickly to you all for waiting patiently for this final game to be played. Also thanks to born, even though we had to restart the game because of technical difficulties, I think we were both glad we did as the start of the first attempt was a very boring match.

Bring on round 2!

Round 1 Review:
A round that didn't fail to disappoint, filled with hard fought points and a few upsets to boot. Let's take a look at what happened in Round 1.

Group A:

Lippo's Losers(Lippo255) 3-2 Matt's Maestros(Matt419)
It would be the Losers to triumph over the Maestros (LOL) in a very tight encounter, and one that puts Lippo in the hotseat as he goes into his next match against Craig.

Carlisle City FC(CraigWL) 2-2 Waka Waka(xJamieWilliams)
A pseudo upset, as Ashes underdog CraigWL got a point off of tournament favorite Jamie Williams in an interesting encounter. This could be crucial as it might decide which one of the two advances as they both have tough matches next round.

Group B:

Wanyama's In Pyjamas(Taskers01) 4-2 Multiple Scoregasm FC(Bornexplorer88)
In a definite upset, big player Bornexplorer was not as clinical as Taskers's outfit and got trumped 4-2. Born now faces a very strong Stonecold as opponent, with the loser of that match really hurting their chances to advance.

Blink-1 Eto'o(Stonecold) 1-2 Mendez Marauders(Brendn)
In the match of the round, two heavyweights took to the pitch, and it was a slightly favored Brendn that came away with all three points; however, both sides looked very dangerous and are certainly ones to watch out for.

Group C:

The Angry Burritos(Znik) 5-2 Gegenpressers FC(AW190)
In a perhaps generous scoreline, Znik's side came out with a very healthy goal difference that matched the amount of points they earned, demonstrating his ability to well.. score goals.

Spartak Bosco(Nomadic) 5-2 Out_on_Bale(Disclaimer89)
In perhaps the largest upset of the round, unknown player Nomadic confidently brushed off Ashes English POTT Disclaimer 89 with a 5-2 victory, making it all the more harder for the veteran to advance from this group.

Group D:

Living on FM FC(Lewie100) 3-2 Sunlight Sky(Yiliang99)
In a very tight match, Lewie edged out a formidable Yiliang to a victory; although an expected result, this shows that Yiliang is no pushover and has the ability to take off points from his remaining two matches.

PFC Sporting(Mkmillwall) 1-1 Stuntcock FC(Yeti01)
In a hard fought yet slightly underwhelming match, neither side could take the spoils as it ended all square, putting that much more emphasis on the next round for both teams.

Round 2 Preview:

Group A:

Carlisle City FC - Lippo's Losers
Lippo knows from the Ashes that Craig is definitely one to fear, and will be wary of this fact in this next round. However, if he wins then he is almost guaranteed to be in the top two on the final day.

Waka Waka - Matt's Maestros
In a winner takes all scenario, Matt must win to have a chance to stay alive in the competition, while Jamie needs points as well to have a good chance at advancing. This is definitely a game to watch for, and because of this it takes the Premier Match of the Round slot for Round 2.

Group B:

Blink-1 Eto'o - Multiple Scoregasm FC
This is a very tough match, and a contender for dual-premier match of the round, as the two sides with no points look to confirm the expectations set upon them in this tournament.

Mendez Marauders - Wanyama's In Pyjamas
After defying the odds and beating Bornexplorer in the last round, Taskers will go against another heavyweight in Brendn, with victory all but guaranteeing that team's place in the quarter finals.

Group C:

Out_on_Bale - The Angry Burritos
A very tough matchup, with English Disclaimer taking on Norwegian Znik; two tough sides, with a clear victor unclear in this battle.

Gegenpressers FC - Spartak Bosco
Can Nomadic truly make a name for himself in this tournament? Or will AW finally get the credit he undoubtedly deserves after a good preseason? Well, it isn't preseason anymore, and with everything to play for, two good players go head to head in this Group C clash.

Group D:

Stuntcock FC - Living on FM FC
With Yeti a favorite from the group, yet Lewie the only one with a win, these two players go into a very interesting fixture with the victor possibly leaving the rest of the group (if Lewie wins) or muddling the table even more (if Yeti wins). For this reason, this fixture is our Underdog Match of the Round.

Sunlight Sky - PFC Sporting
In a much tighter matchup than many will have predicted, Yiliang, who narrowly lost to Lewie last round, takes on Mkmillwall, who got a point from group favorite Yeti. Both sides need wins if they want to have a chance of moving on to the next round.

That's all the writing for today, and at midnight GMT, round 2 begins! Thoughts? Predictions? Leave em' below. Expecting this round to take 3-4 days (now that we are all here ;) ) but we officially have a full week so don't worry about time constraints. Cheers guys and good luck to you!

Me and Lippo are in the same situation. Need a win in our games, and for the other fixture to be a draw, and we're through. :D

I'm going to predict our group gets blown wide open with Craig beating me & Matt beating Jamie. Everything to play for in the final round! :)

Blink-1 Eto'o v Multiple Scoregasm FC - Close call but stonecold to pull out the stunner.

Mendez Marauders v Wanyama's In Pyjamas - Upset of the round, I'm backing Taskers as the surprise packet in this tournament.

Out_On_Bale v The Angry Burritos - Gotta back my Ashes nemesis.

Gengenpressers v Spartak Bosco - Flip of the coin, Bosco won :P

Stuntcock v Living on FM FC - Yeti for an Ashes repeat, a bit closer this time though I think.
