NEWCASTLE UTD 0-2 LIVERPOOL

On a gusty and wet afternoon, Newcastle were outplayed by a Liverpool side who had a bit of luck going for them. After a decent Harper save from Ryan Babel, the ball fell to Mascherano who played a through ball to Dirk Kuyt, who, with a deft touch, lifted the ball over the Newcastle 'keeper for 1-0. Andy Carroll came close to equalising but his header was acrobatically tipped over from Pepe Reina, who otherwise was rarely troubled. The weather certainly played its part for Liverpool's second, as Tavlaridis made an excellent tackle on Steven Gerrard, only for the Greek defender to then lose his footing, and allow Dirk Kuyt to pinch the ball off him and slot home Liverpool's second. A lot of praise must go to fellow Newcastle debutant Ben Tozer, who certainly didnt look out of depth against their opponents.

NEWCASTLE UTD 1-1 TOTTENHAM

Another strong performance by the home side helped Newcastle to a point against Londoners Tottenham. Newcastle were infront after 10minutes thanks to Andy Carroll's 9th league goal. Anice low shot from the penalty spot had Gomes beaten, and had the Geordie faithful cheering and singing to their hearts content. However, on the 50th minute mark, a mistake from youngster Ben Tozer allowed Tom Hudlestone to nod home for 1-1. Loanee Stathis Tavlaridis again staked his claim for a permanent deal with a strong performance , denying the likes of Defoe and Crouch any room or time on the ball. There was also a new chant sung by the home crowd. "We are staying up"

FA CUP RESUMES FOR NEWCASTLE AGAINST ROVERS

Former Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce returns to St James' Park today with his Blackburn side hoping to make it through to the next round of the FA Cup.

NEWCASTLE UTD 0-2 BLACKBURN

"Disappointing, gutless" were 2 words used by manager Rick Evans after watching his side easily dumped out of the FA Cup by Blackburn. Although they have had a good run upto now, they seemed to lack the determination needed to get past Rovers. After a dull first half, Samba headed home 4minutes into first half injury time to put Rovers ahead, hopefully sparking a change in performance from the home side. Still, 9 minutes into the second half, and Blackburn won a corner, Pedersen swung the ball in, and a sliced clearance from Mohamed Zidan landed straight to Nikola Kalinic who made no mistake. Carroll almost pulled one back for Newcastle but his effort was smothered by Paul Robinson, who again, 5minutes later, denied Tiago.

BOLTON 2-0 NEWCASTLE UTD

Bolton took all 3 points today as Newcastle failed to turn up. Despite a nervy 35minutes from both sides, Bolton then won a penalty which Harper saved, and within a minute Kevin Davies headed in to spare Matty Taylor's blushes. Newcastle then had a chance, but Jo's feeble shot was easily caught by Jussi Jaaskelainen. with 20minutes left, Bolton cut Newcastle open with some one touch football which ended with Lee Chung-Yong squaring for Kevin Davies to add a second. Nolan had a chance to score against his former club but missed the target from 18yards. Jeers were heard from the away fans due to the poor display but manager Evans said "we'll learn from this. You can't play the way we did and expect to win, back to the drawing board for us on Monday and we pick ourselves up"

NEWCASTLE UTD 1-1 ASTON VILLA

St James' Park saw a decent game of football played out today between mid table Newcastle and Aston Villa. After Morten Gamst Pedersen's 44th minute strike Newcastle fans must have expected the worst. But with some neat football, and a lot of passion Newcastle started to get on top. Within 2 minutes of the restart, Uruguay's Javier Chevanton smashed home from 20 yards to send St James' Park wild... and things got out of hand 2 minutes later when Chevanton thought he'd put Newcastle ahead, however the 4th official again was Newcastles nemesis, by ruling the goal offside. Chevanton then got himself booked after arguing with the official, but he had no case as he was a good yard or so off.

MANCHESTER UTD 2-0 NEWCASTLE UTD

A solid win for Manchester Utd with this 2-0 scoreline. Despite a good start by Newcastle they couldnt build on it and after 20mins found themselves trailing thanks to a strike from Owen Hargreaves, making a rare start for Manchester Utd. On the stroke of half time man of the match Chris Smalling made it 2-0 with a headed effort from a Nani cross. Despite a decent chevanton chance and a few great saves from Van Der Sar, Newcastle were never really in the game.

NEWCASTLE UTD 0-1 STOKE

Lady luck couldn't have been more against Newcastle if it'd tried. Despite dominating, Stoke snatched all 3 points thanks to a Tuncay left footed strike. Fode Mansare, and Andy Carroll both missed great chances to equalise but Asmir Begovic showed why Stoke were delighted to sign him. Shola Ameobi, picked for the first time this season, tested the Bosnian on 2 occasions but Begovic matched up to Ameobi's efforts. Newcastle fans thought theyd snatched a point in the 92nd minute, only for Kevin Nolans freekick to rattle the crossbar and go out for a goalkick. Its now 8 without a win for Newcastle and Evans is feeling the heat "Im nervous" said Evans "I dont want the players to pick up on this, but we all know we can do much better, and must improve if we want to play Premier League football next year"

WEST HAM 2-0 NEWCASTLE UTD

Recent form showed no sign of letting up today as West Ham collected 3 points at Newcastles expense. Summer signing Matt Jarvis struck after 11mins to settle the Upton Park faithful, and it was just as well he did as moments before Andy Carroll headed against the post. On the half hour mark, Steve Harper produced another stunning save, like many times this season, to deny Carlton Cole as the striker broke through. On the stroke of half time Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie attempted a speculative effort which had Green scrambling back to tip it over. After the restart, it took West Ham 8minutes to double their lead as Alessandro Diamanti skinned Ryan Taylor out wide to cut inside and curl a stunning effort past Steve Harper into the far corner. Newcastle must have thought all the luck in the world was against them, as in the 70th minute, a corner from Ryan Taylor was about to be attacked by Fabricio Coloccini, only for Carlton Cole to seemingly wrestle him to the ground, but the referee had no interest in the appeals, and West Ham hung on for 3 points.

WIN COMES AT VITAL TIME FOR NEWCASTLE

NEWCASTLE 1-0 WOLVES

On a overcast day, with drizzling rain, Newcastle produced a display of courage and fight to shut out Wolves and grab 3 points at the most vital time. Following an early scare when Stephen Hunt brought Steve Harper into action, Newcastle then went on to dominate for large periods. Fode Mansare continued to prove he was a shrewd signing by bringing out the best in Wayne Hennessey. Mansare then turned provider as his drilled cross found the head of Andy Carroll, who couldn't quite direct his header goalwards. However, Javier Chevanton won the game for Newcastle with a typically powerful finish.
Evans said afterwards "I hope this means we are safe, I wont rest until its mathematically impossible to go down, but we feel fairly confident"

NEWCASTLE 1-2 BIRMINGHAM CITY

Home defeat for Newcastle today which shouldn't mean too much in the fight for safety, as Newcastle seem safe enough. A penalty for Barry Ferguson put Birminghan ahead in a dour first half at St James' Park. After the restart a volley from Andy Carroll after 57mins saw Newcastle restore parity, and what a volley it was, sweetly struck left footed from a corner to the far post. But with just 5mins left, Swede Sebastian Larsson struck a sensational effort past Harper to give the travelling fans something to sing about on the journey home. Evan said "Luck goes with you some weeks, and against you others, today it went against, but what a strike to win the game, I take my hat off to Larsson, goal of the season contender easily for me"

EVERTON 1-0 NEWCASTLE UTD

Everton did enough to win today against a dogged Newcastle side. Everton's only goal came from a Pienaar corner which was thumped in by Marouane Fellaini at the near post. On the half hour mark, Danny Guthrie hit the post for the visitors with a lovely freekick, then in the 51st minute Carroll made Tim Howard work with a sweet left footed effort. With 15minutes left Newcastle loanee Jo entered the fray to a chorus of cheers and boos, but was unable to change the outcome, in part due to a terrific Everton defensive display.

SURVIVAL ASSURED!! NEWCASTLE HAVE DONE IT!

NEWCASTLE UTD 1-0 FULHAM

St James' Park erupted today as Newcastle were guaranteed Premier League football next year. Rick Evans has made early media reports labelling him a "joke appointment", certainly seem wrong. And he'll no doubt be overwhelmed with joy after keeping Newcastle in the top flight. Ex Newcastle winger Damien Duff almost put Fulham ahead but scuffed his effort wide, and within minutes Stathis Tavlaridis headed against Mark Schwarzer's post. In the second half the crowd started to get behind Newcastle and the players lifted their game, out playing Fulham for the entire 45minutes, and despite the game looking set for a 0-0 stalemate, Andy Carroll's presence in the box proved too much as Brede Hangeland fouled him in the area with 2 minutes remaining. Up stepped Danny Guthrie and he sent Schwarzer the wrong way to send St James' Park into raptures of joy. Evans said "Im absolutely ecstatic, I proved many people wrong this season, and I've learnt from my mistakes, we now hope to build on this and be stronger next year!"

FINAL DAY OF SEASON ARRIVES!

Newcastle Utd complete their Premier League season today with a home match against Wigan. Roberto Martinez has admitted that although Newcastle are safe and have no pressure on them, he still expects a very tough game. Newcastle manager Rick Evans is expected to take the opportunity to field some fringe players and give youngsters a chance to impress.

NEWCASTLE UTD 3-1 WIGAN

How this game wasn't called off I'll never know, the pitch was absolutely full of water and the bal hardly moved on it and had no bounce, but still we got 90mins of football. The first 15mins were what Newcastle hoped for as Danny Guthrie and returning loan star Kazenga Lua-Lua put Newcastle 2-0 up. After half hour Newcastle almost added a third, but although Nile Ranger's shot went under Kirkland, the sheer amount of water on the pitch held the ball up and Gary Caldwell hoofed it clear. Then 2mins before half time, a Lua-Lua corner was headed by Mansare, but Kirkland pulled off a great stop to divert his header onto the crossbar. On the hour mark, Danish forward Peter Lovenkrands made sure of the points for Newcastle with a blistering turn of pace to beat Steve Gohouri, and coolly slot past Kirkland. Hugo Rodallega grabbed a Wigan consolation in the 81st minute, but Newcastle were well on top throughout. Debuts were handed to Lua-Lua, Kadar, and Zamblera and the trio impressed.

6TH MAN JOINS TOON

SEASON KICK-OFF IS HERE!

The Premier League restarts today with Blackburn facing Newcastle. The trip to the North East wont be an easy one for Blackburn, as Newcastle are riding high on confidence following last season survival. Evans has made 6 signings so far this summer, with only 5 available today. Christian Obodo is still undergoing treatment for his backstrain and is likely to miss another 6 days. Mchedlidze is pushing for a start aswell as Jamie O'Hara who only signed yesterday, although Guinean star Fode Mansare may have something to say.

NEWCASTLE 0-1 BLACKBURN

It took just 32seconds for Blackburn to silence St James' Park today thanks to Nikola Kalinic's strike.Newcastle battled bravely for 89mins and were unlucky to leave without a point, maybe even 3! Michael Mancienne made his debut at Right back and looked very accomplished until an injury forced him off with 5mins remaining. Dan Gosling then switched to right back and Jamie O'Hara came on in centre midfield. Within 2mins O'Hara provided a lovely through ball to Chevanton who shot straight at Robinson, and minutes later Gosling grazed Robinsons crossbar with a sweet effort. Georgian signing Levan Mchedlidze also came on but was quiet.

TOON DEFENCE SLEEPING AGAIN

FULHAM 4-1 NEWCASTLE UTD

The first minute was again Newcastles enemy as it took Brede Hangeland 54 seconds to nod Fulham ahead. Newcastle were sleeping from a Simon Davies cross and the unmarked Hangeland had Harper well beaten. 8minutes later and Englishman Bobby Zamora stung the palms of Harper with a well struck shot, then, after 20mins, Fulham's pressure told as summer signing Nikola Zigic poked home from 6 yards. A jinxing run from Ryan Taylor 5mins before the break saw Newcastle awarded a penalty, which Georgian Levan Mchedlidze dispatched for a goal on his first start. But 15minutes after half time, Newcastle defence were caught napping again from a corner, this time Senderos rose highest to plant a header past Harper, who went absolutely bezerk on his back 4. Kevin Nolan went off injured for Newcastle and was replaced by Fode Mansare, who then switched with Jamie O'Hara, and Mansare struck the Fulham post. But, with 3minutes left, Jonathan Greening put the icing on the cake with a tap-in from a Leandro Somoza cut back.

CARROLL MISSES ARSENAL VISIT

Andy Carroll will miss todays showdown with Arsenal following the news he has to see a specialist. Carroll is suffering with shin splints and could miss the next 6 weeks

NEWCASTLE 1-2 ARSENAL

Newcastle went into this on the back of 2 straight defeats, but for the first 20mins you'd of never guessed. That was until Dan Gosling scored an own goal to give Arsenal the lead. A Abou Diaby cross inadvertently deflected in off the youngster. An otherwise dull first half was lit up by some moments of brilliance from Andrei Arshavin. After the break, Newcastle drew level on the hour mark with a Kevin Nolan chip, something I dont even think the player knew much about! But with Newcastle fans still cheering, Theo Walcott silenced the crowd, and his critics, with a strike from inside the area, which Harper got a hand to, but the shot had too much pace. Evans said at full time "We played so well and deserved better, we just need a win to set us on our way"

NEWCASTLE BLITZ INTO NEXT ROUND

NEWCASTLE UTD 6-0 BRISTOL ROVERS

Newcastle made light work of underdogs Bristol Rovers on a still North East night. Inside 5minutes Lovenkrands shook the Bristol Rovers woodwork, and Mansare brought a terrific save from the away keeper. But, on 15minutes, Dane Peter Lovenkrands slotted home to put Newcastle ahead. And then, 17 minutes later, it was 2-0 as forgotten man Shola Ameobi headed home to practically book Newcastles place in the next round. With the fans sensing a rout, Newcastle were 3-0 up 2minutes after their 2nd. This time, Lovenkrands pace was too much for Rovers back 4, and he had all the time in the world to wrongfoot rovers keeper Craig Coates. Newcastle were 4-0 up on the 70 minute mark when Ivorian Salomon Kalou hit a fierce shot under the body of Coates, who will feel he should of done better, but Kalou was happy to grab his first Newcastle goal. In the final 10minutes, Lovenkrands added numbers 5 and 6, to take his tally to 4 in one game, and complete a morale boosting win for Newcastle

Great result for Newcastle as they held old foe Manchester Utd to a draw. Salomon Kalou carried on his scoring exploits from the League Cup win v Bristol Rovers, to put Newcastle ahead with a volleyed effort from 12 yards. And with chances to further their lead, the Toon Army must have thought this was their night. On the hour mark though, Dimitar Berbatov sidefooted home a Nani cross to level it up. Shola Ameobi almost snatched a win at the death but he couldnt quite reach to get on the end of a Kalou cross. Evans commented "This is a great result, the season hasn't started well, but we always give our best, and thats the main thing, this result can give us the foundation to build on"

TYNE-WEAR DERBY ALL SET FOR KICK-OFF

The famous Tyne-Wear derby kicks off today with Newcastle having not last in the last 2 meetings. Jose Enrique and long term absentee Andy Carroll miss out, Javier Chevanton is back in training but not quite match fit. As for Sunderland, Cristian Riveros is injured so sits out this one, while summer signing Rafael van Der Vaart starts.

NEWCASTLE UTD 0-4 SUNDERLAND
Newcastle fans were furious with Evans and his players following this dismal display. 17 minutes in Jakub Blaszczykowsi put Sunderland ahead with a neat finsih past Harper. Sunderland kept knocking at the Newcastle door and got their reward in the 25th minutewhen Darren Bent outpaced Fabricio Coloccini, and made no mistake as he smashed the ball into the roof of the net. What wound the Newcastle fans up, is the fact Bent celebrated infront of them with his finger against his lips, signalling the Geordie fans to "be quiet". That seemed to rile the home side up too, as 5 minutes later Manuele Blasi was shown red for lunging into Lee Cattermole, and sending the Sunderland man sprawling. Which, ironically, brought out a huge roar from the Newcastle supporters. The advantage soon told, as within 6minutes Rafael van Der Vaart scored a 25 yard freekick, which Harper could only watch into his net. And then, on the hour mark, Newcastle fans started to let their feelings known towards Evans, when Sunderland's Dutchman scored his second and Sunderlands 4th with a simple finish. Evans said "I understand the fans frustration in a game like this, we were awful, and they'll certainly know it in training, I apologise to the fans, and promise to turn it round"
