LEEDS 0-1 NEWCASTLE UTD

A dire game at Elland Road, which was settled with a Andy Carroll headed effort from a Ryan Taylor cross. Leeds rarely threatened and if not for Schmeichel in goal, could of lost by 4 or 5, as he produced stunning saves from Mchedlidze and Wilshere. A crucial win for Newcastle which sees their survival bid boosted.

NEWCASTLE UTD 2-3 STOKE

A back and forth match at St James' Park, but an exciting one. Abdoulaye Faye nodded Stoke ahead, from Matt Etherington's corner, but soon after Andy Carroll slammed home for 1-1. Carroll then put Newcastle ahead with a tap in after Begovic saved well from Kevin Nolan. A dubious Danny Higginbotham penalty had the home fans fuming with anger, and the referee felt the full force of this. With the game looking a draw, Aritz Aduriz settled it in the 89th minute with a low drilled left foot shot. A great game for the neutral, but Newcastle fans must now be nervey. Manager Evans said "Its tense, and the race is hotting up for survival, we are confident we can see it through"

RETURNING STAR WANTS CHANCES

NEWCASTLE UTD 2-0 WEST HAM

A great win for Newcastle's survival bid today with a 2-0 win. A first start for Phil Airey, and a return for Fode Mansare, were the main talking points of Newcastle's starting 11. Evans' recall of Mansare proved a good choice, as he struck to give Newcastle a 1-0 lead. Some great play in midfield saw O'Hara play a nice ball out to Taylor, who crossed in, his cross was headed out by Gabbidon, and the dropping ball was smashed home by Mansare for the opener. With West Ham coming close through Afellay and Carlton Cole, an equaliser seemed likely, but with a minute remaining it was 2-0. Andy Carroll broke the offside trap, and with Green rushing out, Carroll lifted it over the 'keeper and made Newcastle's points safe.

NEWCASTLE UTD 0-2 EVERTON

Newcastle couldnt quite carry the West Ham result into this game, as Everton were too strong. The same 11 started for Newcastle, and they started well. With Mansare and Mchedlidze going close. However, a Jamie O'Hara own goal sent Everton ahead. A drilled shot from Balotelli deflected off O'Hara's legs past Harper. Everton dominated from there, and the second came on 77 minutes when on-loan Mario Balotelli curled past Harper for 2-0, and his 18th Everton goal. Fellaini hit Newcastle's crossbar with a fine header, but Newcastle will be quite disappointed with their display. Evans added "We didnt try hard enough, and Everton deserved the win. I think we are virtually safe but it'll all become more clear within a week or so."

WEST BROM 3-1 NEWCASTLE UTD

Dissapointing display from Newcastle today, but take nothing away from West Brom, who took the game to Newcastle. Both sides started well, but after 4minutes Graham Dorrans broke the deadlock by firing in from a Brunt cutback. Newcastle then came close through Christian Obodo, and left Ludovic Baal, making a rare start, crossed for Andy Carroll who headed over. On the half hour mark, Chris Brunt scored a powerful freekick to put West Brom in the driving seat. With the game entering the last quarter, Youssuf Mulumbu headed in for 3-0, and sent West Brom fans crazy with joy. A bit of good news for Newcastle, was youngster Phil Airey's first senior goal, but it was too little too late

NEWCASTLE UTD 0-1 WIGAN

With one game left, Newcastle are safe, but a win here would of made it all the more sweeter. However, a average display saw Wigan take all 3 points thanks to Mauro Boselli's strike. The Argentine bagging his 7th league goal. Andy Carroll spurned 2 Newcastle chances, and Coloccini headed over, but with safety guaranteed, there were celebrations of some sort from the home fans.

NEWCASTLE SURVIVE !
