SANOGO LOAN CONFIRMED
View attachment 1124151

Everton youngster Moussa Sanogo has today joined Scottish side Hibernian on loan

Sanogo, 18, made an impression on loan at Bristol City last season, with many Toffees fans hoping the teenager would be involved in the first team this season

The Ivory Coast international will instead spend the campaign at the Edinburgh giants as they hope to make the group stages of the Champions League

The 9 time Ivory Coast international was born in Madina but raised on Merseyside and had the option to play for England but chose his native land, making his debut against DR Congo at the age of just 18

THREE JOIN HIBS
View attachment 1124208

Hibernian have announced the signings of three players as they gear towards their Champions League Third Qualifying Round clash with Club Brugge

First in was Jason Barker, who joined Hibs on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Tottenham Hotspur

The Derby-born right-back never made an appearance for Spurs which really stunted his development as a youngster

Now 20, the Englishman has moved to make his mark north of the border with the Edinburgh giants
View attachment 86651

Next to join was another full-back, with left-back Nick Turner joining on loan from Manchester United for a season

The 18 year old Welsh international is looking to wrestle with Slovak Robert Martinka for the left-back spot with the teenager having made 44 league appearances in the Sky Bet Championship with Southampton and Wolves over the past two seasons

Coincidentally, the Welsh left-back, who started his career at Wrexham, was born in Ruthin, the same town as former Welsh international Neil Taylor, also a left-back

Last to join was another loanee in Warren Kyle, who's joined from Hawkins' old flame Borussia Mönchengladbach on a season long loan deal

The 21 year old Welsh international came through the Gladbach academy despite being born in Bangor and had the option to play for Germany but instead opted for Wales, and has made 17 appearances for the Dragons, scoring 4

Kyle has made 75 first team league appearances for VfL Bochum and LOSC Lille, scoring a combined 23 goals in the 2.Bundesliga and Ligue 1

DRAW ENOUGH FOR HIBS

A draw was enough for Hibs on a gusty, wet night at Easter Road as the Edinburgh side sailed into the Champions League Playoff

An early Johannes Radschuweit goal all but sealed Hibs' progression following their 3-1 win in Bruges last week and it could have been even better had Alex Hood converted a 34th minute penalty

Hibs' dominance continued but they still couldn't keep a clean sheet which will worry manager Matthew Hawkins

Hibs expect to be asked a lot of tough questions in the next round, as they face English giants Liverpool as they attempt to reach the group stages of the Champions League

Its all to play for next Tuesday at Easter Road as a resilient Hibernian side held Premier League giants Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Gerrard Stadium last night

A near capacity crowd of 69,000 arrived expecting a walkover but it was the 1,652 Hibs fans who left the happier following the match, with Hibs having every chance to win the tie at home next Tuesday

Liverpool had the better of the game but heroics from goalkeeper Ben Foley as well as huge performances from Steven Orr and Moussa Sanogo at the back saw the Scots leave Merseyside with a draw

Despite their defensive solidity, Hibs were slightly wasteful going forward which is a problem they'd wish to address if they are to progress

FAMOUS NIGHT AT EASTER ROAD

LIVERPOOL 1

An incredible evening of football in Leith has resulted in Hibernian making the Champions League group stages for the first time in their history

The Edinburgh club have shocked pundits and fans alike by beating favourites Liverpool 2-1 on a dramatic night in Scotland

Hibs started on the front foot immediately but found Liverpool a hard side to break down as both sides went in level at the break

Liverpool came into it after the break but it was Hibs who took the lead in the 71st minute via Johannes Radschuweit

The Reds equalised just 5 minutes later via Jimmy Stanley and were going through if the scores remained the same

However the old adage of a team being at their most vulnerable after scoring came true as Liverpool didn't touch the ball until John Mackay finished a wonderful flowing move, giving Hibs the lead 13 minutes from time

The scores remained the same and it will be Hibernian who will join Celtic as Scotland's representatives in the Champions League this season

HIBS FINISH BUSINESS
View attachment 86261

Hibernian have concluded their summer transfer business by bringing in a trio of players for a total of £142,500

Two came in on fees, with these two the only fees Hibs have paid this summer, with boss Hawkins bemoaning a lack of funds as he attempts to kick on from last season's 2nd place

With that in mind Hawkins brought in goalkeeper Brian Page on a free transfer to offer competition for keeper Ben Foley

Page, 33, has played for 7 clubs throughout an 18 year long career, playing for Chelsea, Norwich, Middlesbrough, Hull, West Ham, Brighton and Manchester City

Despite his age the veteran keeper has only made 119 league appearances, an average of 6 appearances per season

Next up; a youngster. Gary Barnett has joined Hibs from Cobh Ramblers for a fee of £12,500

Hibs manager Matthew Hawkins returned to his old stomping ground to land the 18 year old Ireland Under 19 international made 40 league appearances across a season and a half, featuring in the SSE Airtricity Premier League and the Airtricity First Division

The teenager has been lauded for his versatility, comfortable in both midfield and at right-back
View attachment 86258

Last but not least is Jim Mitchell, who's joined from Dunfermline Athletic for £130,000

Mitchell, 16, has joined following extensive scouting from Hibs after the teenager broke into the Dunfermline first team at just 16 last term

Hibernian's European exploits seem to have taken their toll on Hibs' players as they've stuttered at the start of their domestic season

The Edinburgh club kicked off their domestic campaign by beating Inverness 2-0 in the league and Dumbarton 1-0 in the League Cup

Disappointing draws with Saint Johnstone and Dundee United then sandwiched an emphatic 3-0 win over rivals Hearts which will give Hibs' fans some solace

The League Cup will remain in Edinburgh following Hibs' 2-1 win over Rangers at Hampden yesterday

Hibs took the lead early on and seemed in the ascendancy before Rangers equalised against the run of play in the 19th minute

Warren Kyle restored Hibs' lead shortly after the break and the Edinburgh club held on to keep the League Cup at Easter Road fr another season

This result was a surprise to no-one considering Hibs' form going into the game

They'd won each of their games in November as they eased past their opponents, with 4-1 victories against Motherwell and Saint Johnstone sandwiching a 3-0 win away to Inverness

Good results against the Old Firm aside (a draw with Celtic and a 2-0 win over Rangers) the Edinburgh club have faltered, losing to Ross County at home early on in the month

This joined back-to-back 1-0 away defeats to Aberdeen and Falkirk although Hibs fans will find solace in their 3-0 victories over Dundee United and Hamilton Academical

HIBS STRENGTHEN YOUTH SIDE
View attachment 1125205

Hibs' have been accused of focusing on the youth side rather than the first team this January, with the club spending upwards of £2m on youngsters

First up was Alex Hughes, who's joined from fellow Scottish side Aberdeen for a fee of £1.2m, which could rise to £2.1m dependent on goals scored and appearances

The defender, 17, came through the ranks at Aberdeen but never made an appearance for the Dons, instead spending time out on loan at Queen of the South for whom he made 19 league appearances

The Scottish Under 20 international has gone on loan to Ayr United
View attachment 85781

Next up is another centre back in American Jeff Tran, who's joined from New York City FC for an initial fee of £2.8m

The 18 year old is one of America's brightest prospects and has been on the Hibs radar for some time now following his MLS debut

The American Under 20 international had spent this season on loan at SV Darmstadt in the 2.Bundesliga, making 7 appearances before moving to Scotland
View attachment 85780

Last but not least is Mario Morilla, who's joined from HJK Helsinki for £120,000

The Spanish midfielder started life at Alajuense in Costa Rica before joining the 36-time Finnish champions

Scotland will become the next in a long line of nations in which the midfielder has played football after Spain, Costa Rica and Finland

Hibernian overcame Aberdeen in an end-to-end game to secure their place in a third successive Scottish Cup final

It was a frantic start to a frantic game, with 4 goals in the opening 15 minutes as the Hampden crowd were treated to a feast of attacking football

Hibs' superior quality shone through however and they will be joining cross-city rivals Hearts in the final

The result came as somewhat of a shock following a poor month for Hibs as they drew with Falkirk and slumped to a 2-1 loss away at Motherwell
