Looks really good can I understand the admiring glances from the English elite. Definitely 30k well spent! Maybe one to try to take with you if/when you move onto bigger and better things
Hopefully, although I fear his career is going to grow a whole lot quicker than mine

Still unbeaten.

As you can probably guess, we beat TNS in the Qualifiers, racking up a 3-0 win in Wales to make it an 8-0 aggregate victory over the Welsh champions. That left us just 180 minutes away from the Champions League group stage

Who was standing in our way? Legia Warszawa.

I was pretty pleased with this draw. We could have had Celtic, Ludogorets or Steaua Bucurest and Warszawa were probably the second best draw possible, after Swiss champions FC Sion

I felt that Legia were beatable over 2 legs. I mean, we've won at the Mestalla after all. The first leg was away and it was, in all honesty, an absolute borefest, but that suited me down to the ground. I was happy so long as we remained within touching distance for the second leg back home in Dublin, and we did that, led by the "Imperious" Lee Desmond

So it's all set up for fireworks at the Aviva Stadium as we look to become Ireland's first Champions League representatives for a long time. Let's do this.

We went with our narrow 4-3-2-1. Hewelt in goal, Nolan, *****, Feely and Field across the back four, Wilson, Brown and Reilly in midfield, Morgan and Camps in attacking midfield and Tony O'Neill up front on his own. Would we miss the injured Gordon Beattie and suspended Lee Desmond? I hope not.

I gave the lads a rousing speech, quoting Braveheart, Gladiator, Rocky VI and Wayne's World as I geed them up for the biggest game of their lives. We streamed out of the dressing room determined and emboldened

5 minutes in and their keeper pumped the ball forward, Camps brought it down, played through O'Neill and.. BANG! 1-0! 1-0 TO ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC!

30 minutes in and Hewelt pumped it forward, they brought it down and played through O'NEILL!!! OVER THE BAR! Warszawa went up the other end, whipped it in, Szkatula hit it on the volley! Saved by Hewelt!

Legia stopped hoofing and started playing the ball about a bit, we won the ball quickly and broke, Camps, finding O'Neill, for Morgan, he's through! SAVED! ON THE REBOUND!!!! SAVED AGAIN!

Half time. More film quotes. Lets go boys!

Straight away, Nolan gave away a free kick, Legia tried to take it short, but Nolan intercepted and found Wilson, who played through O'Neill, he still had half the pitch to run, O'NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEILL!!!!! 2-0!!!!

Legia really came at us then, with some nice play outside the box resulting in Hammalainen going through on goal! Hewelt made himself big and made the save! Yes Mateusz!

Legia kept coming and their goal soon came, when a high cross was nodded home by Wypario. 14 minutes to hold on

I told the lads to concentrate and remain calm as I preceeded to **** myself. Fortunately my players were more professional and started to see out the game, keeping the ball well and forcing Legia to chase the ball, pulling them out of position before striking as Morgan played through Callum Camps!! He hit it hard and true, beat the keeper and... IN!!!! 3-1!!! 3-1 up with 5 minutes to go! Surely we can hold on?

AND WE DID!!! WE AR INTO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP STAGES!!!

HOMECOMING
View attachment 107504
St Patrick's Athletic have kicked off their title defence with a bang as they secured a HUGE deal late last night

The Saints, fresh off the back of consecutive titles, have wasted no time in bolstering their squad for next season as they have immediately brought in a familiar face

That familiar face is goalkeeper Greg Murphy, who's joined St Patrick's from Celtic for €725,000

The 21 year old has rejoined the club he made his name with for €25,000 less than he left them for 2 years ago as St Patrick's attempt to assert their dominance on the Airtricity Premier League

The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland Under 21 international never settled at Parkhead, making just 3 competitive league appearances for the Bhoys, with none of those in the league

He has returned to Dublin in order to try and recapture the form that made him one of Ireland's brightest talents when he was a teenager

ICELANDIC INVASION

View attachment 107493
Dublin will be home to a few more Icelandic accents for the foreseeable future, with champions St Patrick's Athletic bringing in 4 players from the Scandinvan nation

The first player signed was Bjorn Axel Gudmundsson, who's joined St Patrick's from recent foes Breioablik UBK on a free transfer

Gudmundsson, 18, has signed a year long contract with The Saints and the striker will be hoping to impress his new manager enough to grab a new deal
View attachment 107492

Second to join was Gudmann Arnarson, who's joined St Patrick's from their Champions League foes Valur Reykjavik €16,000

Arnarson, 17, has joined on a 3 year deal and is seen as Iceland's next great defensive hope, with the centre back seen to have the potential to captain the national side in the future
View attachment 107491

Next was another freebie in Agust Hilmarsson, who's joined St Patrick's on a free transfer from semi pro Ungmennafelagio Fjolnir on a two year deal

The right winger, who is known to possess a fair amount of pace, is another one of Iceland's great hopes, with the Icelandic press hoping that the 16 year old can use his time with St Patrick's to develop
View attachment 107490

Last but certainly not least is another centre back in Bjarni Freyr Gislason, who has also come in on a free transfer

The 18 year old has come in from Iprottafelagio Por for nothing and will partner Arnarson in the youth team at St Pat's, could we be seeing an Icelandic core at the Dublin club in the future?

TRIO JOIN ST PATRICK'S
View attachment 107323
With the historic Europa League First Knockout Round tie against Steaua Bucharest less than a month away, St Patrick's have decided to flex their financial muscle by bringing in three players for a total of €455,000

The first player to join was Barry Keane, who's joined St Patrick's on a free transfer from Premier League rivals Dundalk.

The 21 year old had allowed his contract to run down with Dundalk and signed a pre-contract with champions St Patrick's two months ago

Keane, who can play up front or as an attacking midfielder, was at the centre of controversy earlier in the year having made 8 appearances at Under 21 level for the Republic of Ireland, before turning his back on the nation and declaring for Northern Ireland, for whom he has 1 cap

Keane scored 26 goals in 57 appearances for first club Glentoran before joining Dundalk, for whom he scored 24 goals in 54 appearances and he will be hoping to replicate such form at St Patrick's
View attachment 107320

The next player to join was 27 year old Englishman Jake Reeves, who's joined St Patrick's from Dundee for €325,000

Reeves started his career at Brentford, making 34 appearances and spending time on loan at St Albans and AFC Wimbledon, before leaving for Swindon where he made 20 league appearances

He soon left Swindon for AFC Wimbledon where he made his name, making 158 league appearances for the Wombles, before leaving for Dundee for whom he made 64 league appearances
View attachment 107319

The final signing was that of Jordan Thompson, who signed from Rangers for €135,000

Thompson, 24, can play in a variety of positions, from left-back to central midfield to attacking midfielder all they way up to playing as a striker!

The Northern Ireland international then moved on to Rangers on a free transfer where he struggled to break into the first team, making just 62 league appearances in 6 full seasons with the Glaswegian club

Welcome to Ireland, the home of Guinness, and, hopefully, a Europa League Second Knockout Round club.

We drew Steaua Bucharest, a club who, like us had fallen out of the Champions League having finished third in a group containing Manchester United, FC Barcelona and RSC Anderlecht, bad luck lads.

Anyway, the way the draw went meant that we had to travel to Romania for our first game of the 2021 season, gulp.

We played a LOT of friendlies to get the lads up to speed and fortunately their professionalism meant that they didn't turn up 20 stone heavier, well most of them anyway.

What also didn't help were prolonged transfer sagas for key players Tony O'Neill and Scott Wilson, half of Europe wanted O'Neill but fortunately we managed to keep hold of the Northern Irish international

Anyway, we went to Romania and really turned on the style, dominating Bucharest, before going 1-0 down. Fortunately we re-grouped before Liam Kelly converted a penalty 6 minutes later. We continued in the same vein, only for Bucharest to grab a lucky goal on the stroke of half-time to leave us a goal down at half-time.

I gave the lads a proper bollocking and they went back out baying for blood and started laying into Bucharest, it took us a while but we managed to grab the equaliser via Europe's most wanted man, Tony O'Neill. Things went from good to better minutes later as Kevin Morgan scored an excellent volley to give us the lead, and, eventually, a 3-2 victory. What a result

So, where does that leave us? A win, a draw, or a 1-0 or 2-1 loss will put us through to the next round. So who are the men who will be hoping to put us there?

Murphy, Beattie, *****, Feely, Desmond, Wilson, Reeves, Reilly, Kelly, Morgan, O'Neill. Let's go.

6 minutes in and we're already in the ascendancy as Liam Kelly stands over the corner, he whipped it into the near post for SEAN HOOOOOARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1-0 TO ST PATRICK'S!

We kept pushing, but so did Bucharest and 20 minutes later they had a corner of their own, it was only partially cleared, they managed to work it into the box, a scramble ensued and.... GOAL! 1-1!

On the stroke of half-time, Lee Desmond had the ball, he played it to Morgan, whipped it in for SCOTT WILSON!!! WHAT A BLOCK FROM CORNEA AND WIDE! If that had gone in, I would have been a lot more confident.

Half-time, and I don't know what to say, bollocking or happy, or somewhere in between? I'm stuck in the middle. And that's where I stayed

The second half became a tense affair as both sides lost the momentum gained in the first half, having been halted by half time and I didn't know what to do, should I make subs? I HAVE NO IDEA. I made two subs, Nolan and Cawley coming on for Desmond and Reilly.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand nothing happened, I **** you not, nothing happened. But that's fine by me because we are in...

THE SECOND KNOCKOUT ROUND!!!!!!!

Bienvenue à Monaco. That beauty of a principality is where we, St Patrick's Athletic of the Airtricity Premier League will be fighting it out for a place in the Europa League Quarter Final.

And when I say fighting it out, I mean we're going to get absolutely pumped by a world class team.

This Monaco side are full of world class players. Geronimo Rulli, Niklas Sule, Alessio Romagnoli, Thiago Alcantara, Alessandro Florenzi, Bernardo Silva, Balde Keita and Gabriel Barbosa!

We, on the other hand, are relying on an attacking trio that cost €30,000.

To put it in perspective, I will list the club we bought our starting XI off/their last club compared to Monaco's.

MONACO: Real Sociedad, Academy, Hoffenheim, AC Milan, AS Roma, Valencia, Bayern Munich, AS Roma, Benfica, Lazio, Inter

ST PATRICK'S: Celtic, Celtic, Shelbourne, Shelbourne, Brentford, Dungannon Swifts, Dundee, Celtic, Reading, Aberystwyth, Glenavon

Spot the f*cking difference. I have a feeling this is where it all ends, how on Earth did we hold them to a 1-0 win (for them) at the Aviva Stadium.

Still, this is doable, 1 goal for us could unsettle our hosts, and boy do they need unsettling. We really are relying on O'Neill and Morgan here.

I told the lads to enjoy it, we really have no chance and Monaco almost confirmed it when ***** cleared Sule off the line

Just over 10 minutes later Monaco confrmed my fears when Barboas met Toure's cross and beat Murphy in our goal. 1-0.

Five minutes later, Monaco concocted a stunning counter attack that ended with.. Keita blazing it over the bar. No such mistakes were made minutes later however when the clinical Barbosa doubled both Monaco's lead and his tally. Bollocks. 45th minute and Barbosa completed his hat trick. Monaco have had three shots on target, all three have gone in for f*cks sake.

A bollocking ensued and all of a sudden we started playing football and some nice play resulted in an excellent Tom Field cross and.... GOAL! THE COMEBACK IS ON

THE COMEBACK IS OFF as Balde Keita got in off the act and scoring Monaco's fourth, every shot on target has gone in. Tom Field then found himself in some space, whipped the ball in and Kevin Morgan slotted home! Amazing!!

And then, nothing happened. And we returned to the dressing room with a respectable 4-2 defeat and the respect of Europe. Good going, lads.

TONY O'NEILL
View attachment 107007
Tony has, as ever, been in scintillating form. 19 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions so far for the Northern Irishman and an astounding 12 goals in 11 league games means interest in his services continues to grow

KEVIN MORGAN
View attachment 107006
7 goals and 4 assists in 18 appearances in all competitions is pretty good going for the attacking midfielder, as well as a pass completion of 84% and an average rating of 7.33 as he attempts to break into the Wales squad

JORDAN THOMPSON
View attachment 107005
Not to be outdone by his attacking midfield partner, Jordan has scored 8 in 12 and has grabbed 2 assists since joining from Rangers. He's scored 4 goals in 8 league games and will only improve as he continues to settle

TOM FIELD
View attachment 107004
Tom has been a vital, if understated member of the team since joining from Brentford 2 years ago and provides vital width to a very narrow side. His 7 assists in 15 appearances are testament to this

SCOTT WILSON
View attachment 107003
And last but not least, Mr Scott Wilson. The Northern Irish midfield maestro has been in inspired form this season, scoring 4 goals in 19 appearances, 3 of which in the league which has matched his record haul. He is also averaging a 7.61 in the league and has become a regular for Northern Ireland.
