Big changes at West Ham
West Ham have undergone several different transfer moves already this January. In the biggest move, after weeks of speculation, Mamadou Sakho left the club for a massive fee of £47 million to Real Madrid. It is believed that Sakho demanded a new challenge and when the offer came, Oakes felt it was only fair to let him go. Andrea Poli also was sold earlier in the month. Andrea had a bad time of it at Upton Park and never settled in. He has now been sold to Sheffield Wednesday for £1.6 million. André-Pierre Gignac is also rumoured to be on his way out of the club, with Olympique de Marseille rumoured to be very interested in his services.
After these sales, shrewd manager Daniel Oakes moved to sign four youngsters who look to have great futures ahead of them. These are Defensive Midfielder Saif Aldulrahman from Hoffenheim, Central Midfielder Da Silva from Flamengo, Full Back Valdson from Santos, Defender Rogerio from Palmeiras and the player with perhaps the brightest future, central defender Nikita Vasiljev joins from Schalke for £8 million and is rumoured to be Sakho's direct replacement. These youngsters arrive for a combined fee of £19.4 million.
