Not too overly impressed with it so far. I had more success with your Germany style tactic which was really good, especially at the beginning of the season. I started new save with Arsenal to try this tactic and it is the beginning of September, the results haven't been too good. Lost 2-3 to Lille on away ground and 2-0 to Man. City on home ground. Had 4-4 draw with Standard de Liége. 2-2 draw with Laval and have won the rest. Most victories however are 3-2, 2-1. Biggest victory was 4-0 over Colorado Rapids. Will continue my game and will let you know how it goes. I do like the tactic so hopefully the results get better.

Lost 2-0 against Burnley in the first round of Carling Cup...woops. :P

Strange one. Somebody else earlier in the thread used it with Arsenal and did well. Walcott got a hat full of goals too. oO)

How much impact does the pitch size matter? I have introduced this tactic halfway through a season and have given it about 10 games. I have won about 5 but all but one was against the run of play and I am generally only generating about a quarter of the chances my opposition do! My pitch size was already set to standard

Am I best leaving it till the start of the following season and trying again with small pich and a full pre-season?

1. Tried with a few different types of striker, all scored more than a goal a game.

2. Smaller pitches work better for teams who use short passing. Well they do on the game anyway. The AI doesn't seem to like a small pitch.

3. Yes ive tried. Worked ok and probably better defensively but scored less goals. Stand off seems to suck the opposition in. That's why quick wingers is a must.

4. No i don't think so. Feel free to give him a free role and see the difference, ive not tried it.

Thanks for addressing my questions JP. I'm going to try out the tactic with Schalke. They have two fast, talented wingers (Draxler and Holtby). Have a few more questions though if you don't mind:

1. Regarding a different type of striker. If lets say I have a target man type striker, should I change the role to target man or should I still keep him on poacher role?

At Schalke I have Huntelaar, who actually seems like a great poacher but is not that fast. He only has 11 for acceleration and pace. Plus my assistant recommends him as a deep-lying forward. So should I change his role or keep him as a poacher?

2. The same kind of question but about midfielders. I have a midfielder that is recommended to be played as a advanced playmaker. Should his role be changed from central midfielder to advanced playmaker?

I'll also try out the free role for the trequartista and see how he gets on.

Did very well for 3 seas in Brazil, toke charge on America(RN) on 3rd Div and went all the way straight to the 1st. Once there did a seas with Palmeiras (Med Pred 11) end up in 2nd 4 below Santos (the one that play's with Ganso & Neymar) but they lost to me 6-0 ... :P

So Brazilian Hero from Steam - Done

I just started now in Scotland with the same save (I think it's my 1st time there) on 3rd Div with Annan, 1st Game 6-3... let's see how it goes.

I still have the impression that the team could do better in defense... so I might give a try to some tweak's

Go Annan

Walcotts been a beast in the poacher role, but nows hes out for 3 months:'(. Switched RVP to complete forward for the moment(also a beast with assists on the right wing) till i can snap up Cavani in january because Park has been worse than useless covering Theo.

3rd season with Boro went well. Won the FA cup, League cup and Europa league. Also finished runners up in the prem:

This season ive decided to have a change and have converted the tactic into a flat 4-4-2 which is more like Wenger's invincibles tactic, im also using defensive positioning instead of attacking movement:

As you can see things are going very well so far:

To be fair my squad is decent now and a lot different to the awful boro team you start with and Ighalo who has an amazing 152 goals in 108 games:

Looks v good JP - are you planning on releasing it?

What made you change?

I'm in my 3rd season as Newcastle... after finishing 2nd in the 1st season I finished 6th in my 2nd season... slightly disappointing but just lost some crucial games against those around me to miss out on europe.

Things are going well in the 3rd season but would love to try a flat 4-4-2 like your working on.

All I've done is move the players. Dropped the wingers back and moved the TQ alongside the poacher.

Still using the 4-2-3-1 with Arsenal and i'm currently in 1. place in the prem :) Upload some screenshots of the team, transfers and league table tomorrow :)

There's something shady about this tactic, Hernandez has scored 73 goals for me in 40 ish games. I've scored over double the amount of corners than anyone else in the league and atm hernandez has scored a hat-trick 7 games in a row.

I'm using the tactic with Schalke, only in September 2011 right now, however, the tactic is working only ok, not great. I'm actually predicted to finish 2nd in the Bundesliga but I'm concerned with the way we play at home. I have set the pitch to the smallest possible size as recommended, however, I concede an obscene amount of goals at home. Have conceded 10 goals in 3 home matches. Luckily though is that I was also able to score more so I did win 2 and drew 1 of those three home games. I realize it might still be early but according to the tactics interface, all the bars are at fluid already so my team has become used to it.

I wanted to ask for some help with team talks. Is there some guide that I can use as this part of the game has made me almost completely lost. The players' reactions don't make much sense to me. So can't anyone please help me with this or provide a link to some kind of guide?

Also, for the match preparation, does the work load need to be on average or can I lower it to low? I ask because I'd like my players to get a bit more training to improve their attributes.

Ive said before that you will concede goals im afraid. If you prefer good defensive play rather that attacking then this isn't for you.

Team-talks, its already been mentioned that the best thing to do is get a good Assistant and let him do it. Good motivation and man management.

Match prep i don't know. Tbh im not really sure how much affect it really has if any.

Ive now completed my 4th season at Boro using the 442 formation. Not long after my last update i decided to change the right sided striker into a complete forward. I just felt i wasn't getting the best out of my strikers as a trequartista in terms of goals or performances. The change proved to be highly successful as you will see:

The only disappointment was the FA cup, knocked out in the 4th round 1-0 by Newcastle. It was after this match i decided to use a complete forward.

Now for the successes with the new 442 system.

The Premier league we were outstanding, scoring for fun and dominating:

Player stats, check out Ighalo with 52 league goals for the season 73 in all comps:

The League cup we managed to retain having won it in the previous season, the Semi final against Man City a particular highlight:

The European super cup:

Finally the Champions League. Wed already done amazing beating the likes of Bayern, Dortmund and Benfica to reach the semis. I thought it would be curtains though when we drew Real Madrid, i was wrong though:

Final was going to be even harder against Barca. The match though is one of the best ive ever seen playing FM. Also check out how many CCCs i created:

All in all id say the 442 version is definitely my favorite. Its much more solid and more successful against the better teams. Seems much more solid in away games too.

If anyone wants to use the 442 here it is, ive also added it to the main download:

It abuses corners, aka corner bug.

This tactic is unbelievable, just won every competition I was in. Premier league, champions league, league cup, fa cup, super cup and the club world championship. Hernandez scored 80 goals in 50 games with an average rating of 8.21. Amazing.
