Just a quick observation - quite a few people in this thread have reported struggling then when they have posted a screenshot of their tactics they have had conflicting instructions. The most common being having "control" as your philosophy, but having the rest of the tactic not suit it. Playing control means your team will try and keep the ball, dictate the tempo and control the game. A lot of people have been using defensive/counter attacking tactics (deep defensive line, low pressing, direct passing etc) while playing control. This will result in your team just being a mess.
If you want to play defensively and hit them on the break put the philosophy to defend/counter, defensive line - deep, pressing - stand off, passing - direct, counter - yes.
If you want to dominate, play on control/attacking, defensive line - high, pressing - high, passing - short.
