Welcome to the match thread for the Carling Cup 3rd round match between old rivals Leeds United and Manchester United.

Team News:
Leeds United defender Patrick Kisnorbo serves a one-match ban following his sending off against Bristol City.
Manager Simon Grayson may rotate his side given that they play Brighton in the Championship on Friday.
Manchester United are set to play a host of youngsters such as Paul Pogba and Will Keane.
Experienced strikers Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen are expected to feature, but Chris Smalling has been ruled out with a groin injury.

Match Preview:
Manchester United travel across the Pennines with revenge against bitter rivals Leeds at the forefront of their minds.
Embarrassing defeats have been thin on the ground during Sir Alex Ferguson's near 25-year tenure as Manchester United boss, but the 1-0 home defeat by Leeds in the FA Cup third round 18 months ago left a sour taste for him and Red Devils' fans.
Jermaine Beckford wrote his name into Elland Road folklore with the only goal in that game, and Leeds boss Simon Grayson has a squad of players desperate to get the chance to do something similar on Tuesday night.
Grayson would dearly love this fixture to be played twice a season in the Premier League and while his focus is solely on promotion to the top flight, he knows how much another victory over Manchester United would mean to every single Leeds fan.

Head-to-Head:
  • This is the 107th meeting between the sides. Manchester United have won 54 times, Leeds 26 and there have been 35 draws.
  • This will be the fourth time they have met in the League Cup - Manchester United have won every match - including both legs of the 1991 semi-final.
Leeds United:
  • They have won the League Cup once - in 1968 - and were also runners-up in 1996.
  • They have only reached the fourth round once in the last nine years in the 2008-09 season.
  • Leeds are looking for a fifth win in seven league and cup matches.
  • They are yet to keep a clean sheet in any competition this season
Manchester United:

  • The Red Devils have won the League Cup four times: 1992, 2006, 2009 and 2010.
  • Coventry were the last club outside the top-flight to knock Man Utd out of the Carling Cup, beating them 2-0 at Old Trafford in the third round in September 2007.
  • They have scored 25 goals in their seven matches this season (including the Community Shield).
  • They have made their best start to a league campaign since the 1985-86 season.
My View:

I am very much hoping for a weakened Man Utd team and even that team will have a huge amount of quality that we are going to struggle with. I'm sure Fergie won't want to lose to us 2 times on the bounce so will mix in the youngsters with the more experienced players to make a solid team. We have not been playing great this season and have a tough game against Brighton on Friday so wouldn't be surprised if some of our better players didn't play this. It would be great to get a win over Man Utd at Elland Road but the Brighton game is more important. Grayson has a tough choice on what to do. A win against Man Utd could be a spring board for us to go forward and improve on our inconsistent form or could go to the players heads and we could end up playing **** like we did last time we played and beat Man Utd. A good performance from Leeds and a respectable scoreline would make me happy.

Heart: Leeds 3-2 Man Utd
Head: Leeds 1-3 Man Utd

no problem :p
If we have a better scoreline than an 8-2 defeat tomorrow night does that make us better than Arsenal? ;)

what big white space...... ;)

12-0 for Man Utd.
It's going to me a decent game, hopefully Ravel Morrison will play some part. I'm going with 1-1.

Morrison won't play as he hasn't been named in the squad.

Going for a 3-0 win for Man Utd with Pogba, Owen and Macheda getting the goals.

Do you know why he isn't named ?

Wow. Amos, Fryers getting chances. Diouf as winger and also Macheda. Hm.. Diouf plays well as RW not sure about Macheda, Owen or Berba.

No lindegaard, carrick cb with fryers and 4 strikers? wtf

Just realised pogba not starting either, I'm slightly confused.

So only 2 defenders and 4 strikers in the line up along with 3 wingers and 1 CM playing as CB. Wow.. Absolutely mental.

both teams setting out quite attacking. There's going to be goals!

did man utd sell tomas kusak (sp)?

no they just never play him. Fergie must prefer Amos to get experience than let Tomas play. Either that or Tomas is too scarred from the last game haha

larnell cole on the bench!!!!, made my day he played in the same junior side as my brother!
