I'm going to have to go with messi. They both have fantastic techniqal abilities, but Messi has more brains.

He'd get kicked in the Premier League correct, then rape every team that goes down to 8 players a game from everyone doing the usual English way of hoofing the good players. No wonder none of the best players in the world want to play in the Premier League, no where near as much FOOTBALLING ability as other leagues in Europe. Just hit it long to the tall man (Arsenal excluded from this) or hoof it out to the wings and hoof it into the box.

Lets be honest here.

Your obviously going to say Ronaldo as you have him in your avatar, and you support united.

Look what happened when Messi played against Arsenal, he ripped them to shreds, scored a header against Man united, and i think that if he played in the prem he would dominate it easily, teams like Stoke and Blackburn's players arent particularly good nor clever....They wouldnt be able to get near enough to Messi to even foul him.

For me its Messi > Ronaldo.

But i generally think hes a more overall better player, Ronaldo scored past arsenal enough times ;) if real madrid had a xavi who could link the play toghether we would be a bigger threat, atm i think they're level, if ronaldo ever ups his work rate which he probably wont and becomes less of an individual he will be better, but for the time being id say level

Picking up on your stoke/blackburn comment. Greece marked him out of the game in the world cup quite easily...

Now here's a question. If you put Messi in Madrid and Ronaldo in Barcelona, would Messi get a goal a game like Ronaldo has done?

Yes, because he'd link up the play better than Ronaldo can, bring Ozil into the game more, and allow for more shots on goal.

I'm going for Ronaldo overall, because he has dominated in 2 leagues. Plus I'm bored of the 'Everything is better when Messi does it' attitude.

Its Messi without a shadow of a doubt and think thats pretty much the view of most of the football world. No doubt Ronaldo is a great player but he is bit of a flat track bully. Recent El Classico is a prime example

Tirath, don't make me slap you! We all kno Messi is better. However when Barca played Arsenal we had Slivestre playing, so it doesnt really count ;)

It's rare Ronaldo will step up in a big game when it matters and take the game by the scruff of the neck and be the difference. Messi does it constantly. Last year against Arsenal for example. Plus Ronaldo is very narrow minded, Messi is much more of a team player. Messi all the way for me.

I say it is a pointless debate because we all know Ronaldo is better than Messi. Here are a few things to prove it.

Ronaldo has been in better form this season. He has scored more goals and made more assists. This makes him the better player.
That isn't actually true. Ronaldo has scored 18 goals (5 penalties) and made 6 assists this season in all competitions. Messi has scored 23 goals (0 penalties but he has missed one) and made 11 assists this season in all competitions. They have both made 19 appearances.

It's not fair to judge them on this season. If you look back over the years, Ronaldo has always been more effective than Messi.
This also seems to be wrong. Ronaldo has scored 174 goals in 377 games. He has also made 74 assists. That is on average, a goal or an assist every 1.52 games. Messi has made 63 assists and scored 150 goals in 233 games. That is on average, a goal or an assist every 1.09 games.

Maybe at club level Messi is superior, but what has he ever done on the International stage?
Well, apart from scoring a magnificent solo goal to win Argentina their last match against bitter rivals Brazil, he has also scored against world champions Spain. That, and the fact he was nominated for player of the tournament at the last World Cup.

Yes, well it's all well and good that Messi has done more with Argentina than Ronaldo has with Portugal. I mean, Argentina are far better than Portugal anyway. Ronaldo is proven in England, that makes him better.
Not necessarily, actually. Zidane, Cruyff, Pele, Platini, Maradona - all of them have been amazing players yet never graced the English leagues with their brilliance. Does this mean Ronaldo is better than them?

Good point, but Messi is not built to succeed in England. Send Messi to Stoke, Bolton or Blackburn on a cold afternoon and he would do nothing. Ronaldo would rip them apart.
Ronaldo has only scored 1 goal in 9 visits to the Reebok, the Britannia or Ewood Park. Can Messi really do no better than that?

Fine, but what about Messi's record against English clubs. It is shocking. He can be marked out of games easily. Against Spanish teams, Ronaldo would score for fun.
Messi has actually scored 5 goals against English clubs in the Champions League. When playing for United, Ronaldo never scored against a Spanish club.

Messi can't really do it in big games, though. His record against Madrid must be poor. Barca on the other hand are weak defensively and Ronaldo would destroy them given the chance.
Messi has scored 7 goals and made 4 assists in 8 El Classicos. He is also the youngest ever player to score in an El Classico and is the only person to score a hat trick in an El Classico this century. Ronaldo has never scored in his 6 appearances against Barcelona.

It's not fair to judge the 2 players on last night's performances. It was just a 1 off game. Ronaldo has achieved more in his career.
Messi has won 13 major trophies compared to Ronaldo's 9. He has also won 13 major individual accolades compared to Ronaldo's 11. He has also won 48 individual awards compared to Ronaldo's 44.

Messi plays better because he plays for a better team. When Barca are on form, they are unstoppable, with or without Messi.
Don't you think there is a reason Messi plays for Barca, the best team in the world? It wouldn't have anything to do with him being the best, would it?

Obviously for those of you who aren't the sharpest, I am being sarcastic. Messi >>> Ronaldo.

Xabi Alonso ....

Mate ... you are a hero :)

Messi is undeniably better, people just say Ronaldo cos he played in England so got more media exposure... Anyone who regularly watches both regularly can plainly see Messi is just that bit more special. Both fantastic players, though

Alex ( who wants to bone cheryl cole ) by the way il second u on that , by far just proved all u ronaldo bummers who are blinded by his loooks and want to *** him WRONG WRONG WRONG , Messi is by far the better player and in my opinion is the best player ever along with many football critics :D

No, I am not saying he plays in a bad team, rather that he plays in a team that isn't as good as Barca, especially when it comes to teamwork and passing.

And Ronaldo himself isn't doing that very good too, isn't he ?

niether Andriy Voronin is clearly better just watch this

For me Ronaldo doesn't even get into the second place for me. Too selfish, 50 : 50 he looses the ball when he gets to dribble, and when he succeeds, everybody thinks he's better cause he does tricks. Yes, scores a lot but those ball losses affect his team a lot ...

Messi is better in everything than him but not free kicks

Both of them are great players. I'm a bit biased towards Messi (yeah yeah, I don't support Barca, I know.....shaddup). I think it's a matter of personal opinion. Both can produce when called upon and both have great skills.

In all fairness, this guy makes them both look like nPower Championship players.
