Wolfsburg: Season Review

Firstly i'd like to again apologize for the time i have missed over the past 10 days and the resulting lack of real updates.

Bundesliga

View attachment 43844

As you can see we dropped of last season's pace, falling out of Europe with a disappointing 9th place finish.
Wolfsburg chairmen Mr Dieter said that although this season wasn't as planned the club would keep all remaining personnel and remains committed to the current plan.

German Cup

Very mediocre performance in what has been a very mediocre season. We need better next season.

Europa League

View attachment 43842

The highlight of our season. Our return to Europe and our first European venture under this management sees us reach the quarter final losing only twice against two major European sides and only being knocked out to Manchester City on away goals. very proud of the team on this one.

Chairman's Note

"I am mixed on this season. it has seen us rise in Europe, competing and beating the best teams on our level showing we can be competitive but on the other hand we have been very poor domestically so again i have mixed emotions. Please check the transfer list below as i look to thin line the squad"

Hamburg SV
Relegation candidates Hamburg SV have announced that they are happy with what has been a quiet, yet effective transfer window for the club. With relatively little to spend this year, the club have gone and signed a mixture of players to improve the side.
1.Loris Karius – Experienced goalkeeper signed on a pre contract from Besiktas
2.Olivier Giroud – Another experienced player, this time a forward, signed on a pre contract from Everton.
3.Edinson Cavani – Forward arrives from RBL on extremely low wages and for a minimal transfer fee to further improve the forward line.

4.Aaron – Left back from Dortmund, brought in to add competition and fight for the left back spot.

5.A Ruiz – Another striker, but younger than the first 2, the most expensive signing of the window for Hamburg at £5m.
6.Didier Ndong – Central midfielder arrives on a free to fight with Rode to play alongside Dahoud.
The board have decided to allow the manager to decide who leaves the squad, but they will be hoping that the signings made allow the side to slowly progress to the upper part of the table.
Disclaimer – I really don’t ever expect to get out of Germany, but it will be fun for me haha

Neymar was sold before he got a game for Bordeaux!

Hoffenhiem sells up as Bayern replace lost players.

PSG's turn to rebuild. There going to be harder to knock off than Bayern with there spending power. Buying there superstars is pointless unless its there the absolute best!

All 3 goals came in 5 minutes as Bayern lay down the marker for the season.

Leverkusen vs Bordeaux. We have our first chairman vs chairman game in the Champions league. Dortmund might win there group!

Elsewhere Bayern are drawn with Man Utd, Hertha get a tough draw with Moneybags Juventus & Monaco as well as European specialists Sevilla

great draws for All 3 German teams with Marseille being the only real challenge for Schalke. Toulouse went out in the final qualifyer on penaltys!

th

HOFFENHEIM FUTURE IS IN DOUBT AS POLICE RAID THE CLUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In astonishing events at Hoffenheim the club were raided by police due to allegations of financial irregularities and have been accused of paying bungs to agents to get players from South America. In a summer where there were lots of comings and goings regarding players that has all been forgotten about as events off the field has taken centre stage.

It is reported that the club, after selling Penaranda and Reus, had a budget of over £60m and they then sold an initial £90m worth of players and only spent £50m of that so their balance should be about £100m?? Not so as their budget is only £40m!!!! Now the club is losing £7m a month (despite the fact that the owner actively reduced the wage bill and doesnt even pay a player £100k a week) and have lost sponsorship deals but the missing £40-50m is the main concern.

What is even more puzzling is that in July apparently the club received £37m in investments but did spend £25m in agent fees and loyalty bonuses so that should mean an extra £12m in the club coffers!!!!

And that's not the only thing...……..

The club started pre-season with only a 17y/o keeper who was up to the task (and who was loaned out in the end by the CPU) so manager Roger Machado had to bring in a goalkeeper or 2 and after missing out on Pedro of Real Madrid he went back to his homeland to bring in Matheus of Flamengo for £15.5m however the Brazilian was not registered by the German FA and so he isn't at the club and cannot now be registered until January. The German FA have apologised but it leaves Hoffenheim either with a goalkeeper playing in Brazil until January where he could get injured and not learn the language or he could arrive in Germany immediately but not play for months and his attributes will drop.

Also did the £15.5m transfer fee come out of the budget? If so that's a chunk of the missing money explained. As it stands Hoffenheim have to play half the season with a young keeper brought in from Leipzig who is only considered good enough to be backup and who had an absolute shocker on the opening day (rating of 5.8) and was suspect in the draw against Freiburg.

A resolution one way or the other is expected before January. Will the owners leave the club on their own accord or will they be arrested regarding the missing money or will they carry on and stay at the club?

Talks are ongoing between the club, police and the German FA.

Hey mate, think you messed up on one of the transfers? Rony Lopes who I got on a free for Nice is at Wolfsburg even though in the transfer update it's written that I'm the one who got him?
It is a mistake, i didn't go for him

So we’ve made our marquee signing at Dortmund and signed Ruben Neves from Bayern Munich. Despite being on £500,000 week he’s still being paid £400,000 less than Cristiano Ronaldo is…

View attachment 43675

If we don’t finish above Bayern this season then it’s curtains for me at Dortmund. We have the squad to do it, so it’s over to you Rafa.

Also I remember in the first season that all the players in the dream XI played for Bayern. We’re now down to 2!

After a hectic summer last year at Toulouse we’ve calmed down this time round but have still made some key additions.

Stefan De Vrij, Aleix Garcia and Eduardo Vargas offer some quality to the team whilst we’ve also made some more signings for the future. There’s a lot of potential at Toulouse!

Annoyingly we were knocked out by Copenhagen in the Europa League 4th Qualifying Round but that might be a blessing in disguise as our young squad aims to finish in the European places again.

View attachment 43671

We responded in the best way to the European heartache by beating Lille 4-1.

View attachment 43670

If we play like that every game this season then it's going to be a very intrguigng season at Toulouse!

Stone Cold Summer

My big deal of the summer was brining in Neymar to replace Griezmann. Stuttgart asked who i would be willing to let go and at the bottom was a long list of players was Griezmann that involved a deal with Bordeaux to take Neymar & Mbappe away from there. Next up was a double raid on Barcelona with RB Meunier and Pique joining for a combined £43m A DR was a must after City poached Odriozola and PIque was a upgrade even at 34! With Koln being ditched by the not so special one Timo Horn and his £11,25m buy out clause was there for the taking and for the first time in the save we have a quality keeper! Hercher is a U19 that arrived as part of the Griezmann deal, Costa was nicked from Bayern on loan for now since we were just short of paying the transfer fee. Rajkovic was signed to loan out but as we were scrambling for money he was sold to Schalke so Killeroo could have 2 Predrag Rakjovic's. I also picked up Cavani on a free but with our depth i was more than happy to move him off to another German team on mega low wages. If Pochatino wanted to play 2 at the back he should just say. Selling Odriozola was heartbreaking. He's basically irreplaceable but then to sell our only left back Luke Shaw and then star young center back Pavard disgusts me. We'll be light if Pique or Sarr goes down injured

Target
Just beat Bayern. A title challenge with this squad is the least i expect but beating Bayern is the only must do objective.

Bordeaux

View attachment 43622
It was a far busier window in France as i try and throw together a top notch team a fast as possible. Suarez on a free was a bank breaker but a must. Getting Werner and 2 prospects from Stuttgart as well as the money to take Mbappe over will hopefully be a game changer in a few seasons time. We did g big on good players like Partey & Herrera that should help us finish top 5 but now we have a quality spine to the squad all future windows will be about adding world class players if we get funded like we were this past summer.

Loosing Augustin & Barrella after one season was a shame, Barella especially who was set to be the focal point of the midfield for a long time.

Targets
Solid top 3 finish, close the gap to the top 2

As i've said a few times folks PM me if you see a mistake, posting in here is easy to miss. Mistakes will happen, catching them as far as possible will stop situations like this where the move cant be sorted till January
sorry mate, totally forgot about that hahaha, no worries if you've simmed through some of the season already and couldn't put Rony Lopes in the team!
