Wigan Lose One Young Star As They Gain Another!

James-McCarthy-Wigan-Premier-League_2559134.jpg

Ex Wigan player was quick to accept personal terms with Manchester United after their bid was accepted by chairman Dave Whelan after he took control of the bid! Gary Neville wasn't happy but spent big to ensure his team didn't face too many problems with the loss! Following McCarthys exit and Donovan's entrance to the DW, they have snapped up young Brazilian Starlet Neymar! The 18year old has signed for a fee just short of £20million and has stated his ambition and love for the English Premier League! He arrived at the DW stadium just two hours before kick off and has left Gary Neville wondering weather to start the youngster or not!

In Pre Season Gary Neville made a couple trips out to watch the young star play his football and watched him play! Neymar played four friendlies scoring seven goals and this is what gave Neville the urge to sign the young player! How will he cope in the premier league?

All Square At The Reebok
Gary Nevilles first competitive game in charge of Wigan was going to be an away trip to the Reebok stadium! With new star Neymar put straight into the squad as well as Donovan and Hugo Rodallega's early form, Maybe Wigan had something to play for!

Bolton 2 - 2 Wigan
Diame (Og.53) Cahill (65) - Rodallega (6) S.Caldwell (10)
Wigan made a bright start to the game pressuring Bolton all over the pitch! As Landon Donovan broke down the right side he squared the ball between two defenders and left the goalkeeper rooted to the spot as Rodallega pounced on the cross to put Wigan 1 up! Steven Caldwell made his competitive debut and scored when he had his chance from a corner just 10minutes into the game! Wigan were 2 up and cruising! Second half they fell asleep and allowed Bolton back in when Diame made a fluff at the back and put the ball in his own goal and then Cahill smashed in a free kick the game became level and finished that way! Wigan had thrown away a two goal lead and a vital three points!

Neville Picks Up First Three Points!

Next On the agenda for Wigan was hosting Birmingham! Birmingham had also draw 1-1 in their first league game so this seemed a fairly even game on paper! But when has paper ever won you a football game! Wigan went into the game to bounce back from their slip last weekend to try and gain three points

Wigan 2 - 1 Birmingham
Rodallega (41) Neymar (45+2) - Derbyshire (3)
This time it was Wigan who faced a rocky start as Birimgham meant business as they opened the score in just three minutes! Wigan took a while to get use to the shock but as soon as they started playing their football again Rodallega popped up with a fantastic solo effort to give him his second league goal in as many games! New signing Neymar put Birmingham in dire straights with the last touch of the game as he headed in a corner at the near post to make Nevilles team talk a lot less hard hitting! This win boosted Wigan into the top half of the Premier league!

Wigan Beat Charlton In Carling Cup Second Round!
Neville has represented and captained Manchester United to so many Carling Cup games and has won his fair few in his time! Now he was in the other boots and was going to watch his side begin their travels in the Carling Cup! Would he be able to mastermind his squad to reach the third round!

Wigan 3 - 0 Charlton
Neymar (7) Alcaraz (25) Cleverley (65)
Gary Neville decided to name a weakened Wigan side to face League One side Charlton! Although he did decide to leave Neymar and Donavan in the squad as they continued to adapt to the English football! And it was Neymar who scored, his second of the season and in as many games! Just 7 minutes into the home clash, Neymar popped up at the back stick to place the ball past the Charlton keeper. Alcaraz was next to score as he popped up for a corner and latched onto the end of the in swinger! Fantastic goal by the centre back! Tom Cleverley was introduced to the squad before the kick off as the rotation continued, he was the man to finish the game off after a succession of thirty two passes Cleverley leathered the ball to the far right corner from inside the box! Wigan were through to the third round draw!

Championship side Bristol City will face Liverpool At Ashton Gate!

Wigan Concede Late But Manage A Point At Villa Park!
Gary Neville had a tough game up next, he saw his side travel to Villa park, a place where many teams have gone to and came away with nothing! He would be happy with a single point! as they look to remain in the top ten, were Wigan going to be able to salvage anything from a strong looking Villa side?

Aston Villa 2 - 2 Wigan
Gibson (16) Agbonlahor (81) - Rodallega (20) Neymar (46)
Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson who is on loan at Aston Villa was the man to set Villa Park bouncing as he opened the scoreline in just the 16th minute with a well directed long shot! It only took Hugo Rodallega 4minutes to bounce back though as he found the net from close range! Neymar continued his scoring run as he put Wigan ahead one minute after the interval! Aston Villa left it late but it was a fantastic finish by Agbonlahor to ****** a point with nine minutes to go! Wigan stay 10th!

Gary Neville knows exactly what lies ahead of his Wigan side next month! His side face the well known top five in a month as they play chelsea then fulham, stoke in the carling cup, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City and then face Manchester United ending the month against Arsenal! This will not be an easy month for the Latics!

Wigan Lose Despite Fair Share Of Possession!

As Wigan were set to take on Chelsea, Neville knew it was going to be a harder game so did make a few changes to his current squad and formation! Once this month was out the way he knew he could relax and let the worries ease up! But he had to get through the month first!

wpid-Wigan-Athletic-vs-Chelsea-59.jpg

Wigan 0 - 2 Chelsea
Anelka (30) Lampard (84)
Wigan managed to keep Torres quiet the whole game whilst creating their fare share of chance and keeping possession! Wigan chucked too many chances away though as Chelsea took the lead on the half hour mark! Wigan carried on battling but they couldn't find the net! with 6 minutes to go Lampard finished Wigan off and sent them to their first defeat of the season! Wigan now have 5 points from 4 games!

Unlucky against Chelsea mate, the top teams are so clinical it's just easy for them to nick games.

Wigan Pick Up Vital Points Away From Home!

Next on the agenda for Wigan was a trip to Craven Cottage as they faced an inform Fulham side! Fulham who sat 7th before this game were looking to wipe up Wigan after their misery and defeat to Chelsea last week! Where as Wigan were looking to come back and pick up a point where they really need to with their run of fixtures.

Fulham 2 - 3 Wigan
Sidwell (23) Dembele (74) - Neymar (3) Donovan (16) N'Zogbia (32)
Wigan needed three points today and started with a vengeance! Young star Neymar got his side off to a blinder in the third minute with a sensational strike! Donovan quickly grabbed Wigan's second and his first goal for Wigan! Sidwell gave Fulham an insight to the game in the 23rd Minute, N'zogbia put the game beyond Fulham in the 32nd minute as they made the gap back to 2 goals yet again! Dembele tried to bring Fulham back to the game as he scored with 16 minutes to go but their time was up! In the 92nd minute Rodallega won and missed a penalty which denied them their fourth goal! Wigan had won the game though and moved up to Seventh In The League Table!
