Extra Time Winner Decides Carling Cup Fourth Round Tie!
Wigan had to turn up today, in full force with high motivation as Gary Neville looked to take his side one step further into the Carling Cup! Last season Martinez managed to reach the fourth round with Wigan! and the board expected the same this season! But was Gary Neville able to rally his troops just days before facing a strong Liverpool side?

Wigan 2 - 1 Stoke
N'Zogbia (2) Donovan (97) - Higginbothom (Pen.21)
Wigan needed extra time but were able to squeeze the result out of Stoke to put themselves through to the fourth round draw! Wigan got off to yet another flyer as N'Zogbia scored in back to back games, this time scoring after just 2minutes of the game! The DW Stadium lifted the roof as they started chanting and enjoying themselves! This was short lived though as 19minutes later Fuller was brought down inside the box and Danny Higginbothom scored the resulting penalty! Both sides went on to have chances to put the game to bed but the keepers were brilliant! As we entered extra time Landon Donovan got brought down on the edge of the box, 20 yards out, he placed the ball and to the dislike of the Stoke fans took a quick free kick! The ball rattled off the post and nestled into the bottom corner! Wigan were in the lead! Wigan continued to press and held of Stoke for the remainder of the game! They had done it! They were through to the Fourth round Carling Cup Draw!

Good update bud, nice to win in extra time, Donovan's looking to be a good signing as well :)

Carling Cup Draw Pleases Wigan Fans And Manager!
Today we witnessed the fourth round Carling cup draw which was held at Manchester! Wigan were hoping for a lower division team to help them progress further into this cup! And with the likes of Leicester, Millwall, Burnley Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth still in the competition! The chances were high for Wigan! Although they will want to avoid Liverpool, Chelsea Manchester united and Arsenal!

Fulham Vs Liverpool
Wigan Vs Burnley
Arsenal Vs Chelsea
Wolves Vs Leicester
Aston Villa Vs Millwall
Manchester United Vs Crystal Palace
Bolton Vs Nottingham Forest
Blackpool Vs Bournemouth

The draw had done us favours! Luckily we had been drawn for another home game, this time we would host Burnley in the fourth round of the Carling cup, this was brilliant news as we began to think we could have the luck to go all the way! Elsewhere Fulham are set to host Liverpool, Holders Manchester United will welcome Championship side Crystal Palace to Old Trafford and the Giant Killer draw will be held at the Emirates as Arsenal play Chelsea! Elsewhere league one side Bournemouth are the lowest footballing team left in! and they will visit 15th place Premier league side Blackpool at Bloomfield Road!

Valiant Wigan In Good Display Against Reds!
Wigan were set for their tough run this month to continue as they welcomed in form Liverpool to the DW Stadium this afternoon! Wigan who were in 9th faced a Liverpool side who were only 3 places above them! The bookies had this game down as Wigan to get slaughtered but were the odds to be correct...?

Liverpool 1 - 0 Wigan
Gerrard (4)
Liverpool only managed to beat Wigan keeper Al Habsi once as they played a hard fighting Wigan side! Wigan knew they'd be up against it and the hill got steeper to climb when Gerrard scored from 12yards just 4 minutes into the game! Gary Neville switched to a more defensive set up as he moved his attacking wingers to basic wingers! This gave Wigan an easier set up to play with! On the stroke of half time Landon Donovan came close to levelling the scores when his free kick rattled off the post! However Rodallega had the best chance of the game midway through the second half when he was one on one with Reina and passed the ball wide of the post! Neville was pleased with losing just 1-0!

(Gerrard scores only goal of the game in their 1-0 victory at the DW Stadium)

Wigan End September in 11th Place...!

Wigan_athletic_new_badge.png

After narrowing losing out to Liverpool it spelled the end of the run of games for September 2010, as Neville now had to look onto October! In September Wigan dropped six points in the League but they were too Chelsea and Liverpool! They had a victory in the League Cup Third round against Stoke in extra time and beat Fulham in the League. And now as Wigan and Gary Neville look on towards October he will realise that his side are set to face another hard run as he plays the other 3 of the big 5! Playing Everton away, Man City at Home, Man United at Old Trafford, Home to Burnley in the League Cup and host Arsenal in the League to end the month off!

Wigan Pick Up Vital Three Points Away From Home!
Wigan today played Everton and it was being touted the easiest league game they will play this month! But even that would be difficult! Gary Neville said that there were no easy or hard games in the league! Every games just as important!

Everton 0 - 1 Wigan
Di Santo (49)
Wigan switched things around a little bringing Di Santo in up front as Neymar played on the wing! Kirkland played his first game in goal of the season and kept a clean sheet! Which included saving 58th minute Mikel Arteta penalty! Wigan were 1 up at this stage after Di Santo scored from 3yards out following a corner! Wigan went on to win all three points as they saw out a vital 1-0 win! Which may be their only league victory of this month! Nevilles men stay motivated though!

Wigan Stand Strong To Deny Manchester City!
Wigan were set to face a strong Manchester City side, if City won they'd move up to second in the table! Wigan would settle for a point! Three points would put them in dreamland, but they are being booked up for a very heavy defeat at home to moneybags Manchester City!

Wigan 1 - 1 Manchester City
K.Toure (Og.40) - Tevez (1)
Wigan were off to a bad start as they allowed Carlos Tevez to tear them apart within the first minute to find the back of the net! He beat three people and rounded the goalkeeper before calmly passing the ball into the net! Neville began to think his side would struggle! All even stevens from then on, up to the 40th minute when Kolo Toure blocked Rodallega's shot and deflected it past his own keeper! Both teams went on to make chances in the second half but the defences stayed strong as Wigan earnt a solid point!

Gary Neville Returns To Old Trafford!
Neville_3.jpg

Today's match between Manchester United and Wigan saw Wigan's manager Gary Neville set foot back in Old Trafford since he retired 3months ago! After retiring he spent a couple weeks off and then went into managing! Almost immediately Wigan came knocking and now they have the ex Manchester United right back! How will he get on at Old Trafford, could he stir his own shock up?

Manchester United 4 - 0 Wigan
Chicharito (15, 25) Nani (54) Berbatov (79)
Any wish Neville may of had to get one over on former manager Sir Alex Ferguson took a beating in the first 15minutes as youngster Chicharito went through to put United 1 up! He quickly doubled his tally within the next ten minutes to put Wigan in deep trouble! 2-0 at half time and Neville told his team to just relax and enjoy the second half, and they relaxed too much as Nani scored 10minutes into the second half, and Berbatov wrapped up the game with 11 minutes to go with a fabulous striker to the far corner! Neville's men were down and out!

10 Man Wigan Brave The Storm!
Wigan had made it this far, it was the Carling Cup Fourth Round, with a tie against Championship leaders Burnley, who got relegated last season, Wigan began to think that they had a good chance of progressing to the quarter finals! And this would beat the board expectations as well as how far Martinez got!

Wigan 3 - 2 Burnley
Rodallega (15) S.Caldwell (41, 90) - Alexander (35) Thompson (49)
Burnley showed good spirit as this was never going to be an easy game, for either team! But Wigan began worst as after just 13minutes Neymar had been sent off after a horror challenge! Neymar had jumped in off the floor studs showing, lucking he only caught his opposite number on the shinpad! That could of been nasty! But Wigan revived themselves as Rodallega broke his 11hours without a goal to cap one off after quarter of an hour! Burnleys Garhem Alexander then pulled one back which was his first of the season, a fantastic header from the set piece! Steven Caldwell impressed at centre back and when he came up for a corner he made it count and put Wigan 2-1 up just before the interval! Second half and Thompson struck back within 4minutes as they were back at 2-2! But with extra time looming over them, Steven Caldwell went forward for another corner when he latched his head onto the ball and netted past the standing keeper! Wigan had progressed to the quarter final with 10men!

(Once again Rodallega realises where the goal is as he puts Wigan one goal to the good!)
