Newcastle Lose Out to Brummies!
Newcastle United 0-1 Birmingham City (Carling Cup 4th Round)
Newcastle will consider themselves highly unlucky not to have progressed to the Fifth Round of the Carling Cup. Newcastle are yet to win the competition and it seems to be a thorn in their side. The only goal of the game, was heavily against the run of play and the man to score it was Christian 'Chucho' Benitez on 73 minutes. French left winger Armand Traore, took the ball from the halfway line and whipped in a cross at the far post which Chucho scrambled in. Newcastle will frustrated not to have won and have crashed out of the Carling Cup yet again!

Benitez was a constant annoyance to the Newcastle defence and his goal was deserved.
Man City Maul The Magpies!
Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
In a game with a sending off for each side, Manchester City were clear winners against a tired Newcastle United side. It was an eventful game from start to finish and Steven Taylor saw red after just 35 seconds when he elbowed Stephen Ireland in the face. Man City finally took the lead on 41 minutes, Alexis Sanchez poking the ball home from an Emmanuel Adebayor cross. Danny Wilson scored the final goal of the game on the stroke of half time, turning in a header from a Sanchez corner. Stephen Ireland also saw red on 65 minutes but Newcastle were already dead and buried and City held on for a simple victory.
Steven Taylor regrets a moment of madness, costing Newcastle 3 points.
Newcastle Bounce Back to Bash Benfica!
Newcastle United 5-0 Benfica (Keirrison, Rossi, Gignac x2, Gaillard) (Champions League, Group F)
Newcastle United ended a 2 game losing streak to record a marvellous win over a dreadful Benfica outfit. Newcastle had an early lead through Keirrison, the striker pouncing on a Dzagoev through ball to slide home. It took 30 minutes for Newcastle to make it 2-0 but Rossi made no mistake, somehow poking the ball home from an impossibly tight angle. It was 3-0 on the stroke of half time, when Gignac, who has recently come into form, curled the ball past the helpless keeper from 25 yards. He has started to show his true potential. Michael Gaillard netted his first ever goal for Newcastle, turning in an easy header from a corner on 65 minutes. Gignac got his brace late on, slipping the ball into the bottom corner after collecting a long ball from Ustari. A great way to bounce back into form!
Gignac is the man on form with Keirrison out injured!
Newcastle Unimpressive Against the Latics
Wigan 0-1 Newcastle United (Keirrison (Pen))
Newcastle got the 3 points they needed in the end but not without a fight against a resilient Wigan side. In what was an uneventful game, Newcastle just about had the edge but it took a confident Keirrison to keep them top of of the league. It was on 28 minutes that former Newcastle defender Tamas Kadar went from villain to hero for the Magpies, pushing Dzagoev to concede the penalty. Keirrison was supremely confident as he stepped up, chipping the ball over the keeper and running off to celebrate with the fans. A game to forget for a neutral but Newcastle will be pleased all the same!
Keirrison celebrates after scoring a wonderful penalty against Wigan!
Newcastle Fail to Find Finish Against Spurs!
Newcastle United 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur (Keirrison)
Newcastle United were the victims of some atrocious finishing today, having 23 shots but scoring just one goal! Ramsey, Verratti, Gignac and Rossi should all be embarrassed but in form Keirrison was the man again, scoring his only shot on goal. It took until 59 minutes for Newcastle to finally score but it was complete luck. Keirrison scuffed his strike but the ball rolled through Gomes' legs before finding the net. Keane quickly equalised from a header. The game went on with Newcastle missing in some style and many fans left early. A poor game.
Keirrison was the scorer again but Newcastle need another goalscorer if they want to win the league.
Newcastle Secure Win at Wolves
Wolves 0-2 Newcastle United (Keirrison, Gignac)
Newcastle's poor finishing was left behind today as they took their chances in a relatively even game. Wolves are always a tough place to go so it was a surprise for Newcastle to take all 3 points. Keirrison scored the first goal on 62 minutes after a dire hour of football. He pounced on a Hennessey save after Rossi had a shot to slide the ball home. 5 minutes later, he was stretchered off injured and later out for a month. Gignac took vengeance over Wolves and scored a powerful edge of the area strike to bury Wolves. A very easy win for Newcastle who stay top by 5 points!
Keirrison can't stop scoring but is now out for a month. Gignac and Rossi must take centre stage!
Newcastle Take Stroll in the Park against QPR!
Newcastle United 3-1 QPR (Gignac, Rossi, Sandro)
Newcastle had it all their way against newly-promoted QPR and Sandro's sublime goal, meant that he scored his first in just under 18 months! Gignac gave Newcastle a very early lead. He found his way through the defenders from a Verratti through ball and squeezed the ball home. It's his 4th goal this month and his form has shot up! Rossi answered some of his critics too, scoring from a tight angle on 30 minutes. Sandro then scored the Goal of the Month. A 35 yard curler beat the keeper and flew into the top corner! An amazing goal to end the half. Balanta grabbed a consolation goal but Newcastle were never going to lose this one!
Player of the Month
Gignac could have won it but my award goes to the tremendous Keirrison for all the vital goals he has scored. His tally now comes to 10 this season, despite injuries. He has scored 9 goals in the league and is looking like the 20 goal striker we so desperately need! Without Keirrison we would not be the same side and his £7,000,000 price tag is looking like a bargain. He has scored an amazing 45 Premier League goals in just 66 starts! I could not ask for much more from the talented Brazilian!
Keirrison is everyone's favourite striker and the forward looks set to have a bright future!
Manager's Thoughts:
"Keirrison is on fire at the moment and he is showing every striker how to put the ball in the net. He wins us games on his own which is a sign of a brilliant player!"
"It was great to see Sandro score again and the manner in which he did was even better. He sits in front of the defence and does his job every game. He rarely get's notice but he deserves the plaudits."
"It's brilliant to be top of the league and have some breathing space. All credit to the lads who put in so much hard work at the training ground. They are a real unit now!"
