Before
Palermo were expected to qualify for the next round against a hit and miss Sampdoria team.

After
If this was a boxing match, it would have been stopped in the 1st 10 seconds. Palermo knocked ten tons of donkey much out of Sampdoria today. Llorente got the scoring started with a 25 yard blistering shot. The keeper did get his hand to it, but the shot was too powerful. Then Sampdoria broke and scored on their first attack, with Fornaroli levelling the scored on 12 minutes. Then Mannini made DeGea pay for dropping a floated ball, tapping in to an empty net on 18 minutes.

For all of Palermo's trying, it looked as if Sampdoria were going to knock them out, they held on for dear life but in stoppage time, the brilliant Llorente scored a placed, left footed shot to bring the game into extra time.
In extra time, Palermo should have wrapped it up, but they didn't take their chances and the match went to penalties.

Hernadez was up first, and he blasted the ball down the centre, just over the keeper. 1-0 Palermo
Sampdoria's Testardi was up next, and he placed the ball in the left hand corner, sending DeGea the wrong way. 1-1

Llorente stepped up and blasted the ball to the right, the keeper got his hand to it but it was too powerful and Palermo lead 2-1

Before
Udinese had failed to eclipse their brilliant run last season, probably due to lack of resources now they were playing in the Champions League..

After
This was Udinese's best performance in a long while, and when Abel Hernadez put the poor Palermo in front, their fans were shocked. But on 59 minutes, Isla equalised and set Udinese up for the win. Palermo didn't have a clue, with many of their players looked jaded and tired. Pastore had a bad game, constantly giving the ball away, but it was his cross to Llorente which gave Palermo their winner, after Llorente headed over the keeper, a perfect lob. Palermo win 2-1
