The only thing stopping me from playing FM13 is the database is outdated by a year, I hate FM14 right now.. hoping the next patches fix the match engine.

The amount of goals I concede on the 48th min is stupid. There is a goal EVERY game between 45-50 mins (2nd half!)

I swear this is the worst FM I ever played and I'm playing this game since fm 07.

Got this far and then dismissed the rest. This game is not even in the same stratosphere as FM09. It just isn't.

Favourite bit was his hate for Classic mode. The FM player base grew by 20% last year. Half of that growth alone was from Classic mode alone. so he could not have been more wrong.

That's not counting the existing players who don't have time and thus play classic mode.

The rest were ranting questions that are easily answered.

Zonal marking is there by default. Because man marking is actually specific man marking. If people want "touch tigh marking ( which is what people actually incorrectly assume is man marking), you set them to mark tighter. Most "man marking" is actually touch tight zonal marking, unless you get players doing specific jobs on targets, such as Welbeck on Alonso, or Jones on Ronaldo/Bale.

If you pick two playmakers even though both are treated like playmakers, the deep one will naturally see the ball more as he is the hub of the game. If you are playing a targetman, players will naturally aim for head/feet. If you wanted a run on to ball targetman, then you'd use a poacher

If you want to time waste, then you lower the tempo of the game.

Anyone who is ******** about 'oversimplified tactics' makes me laugh. All that's been simplified is the implementation. The exact same tactics and options are there, it's just presented differently.

Also, given that the game's harder than last year and you need to think about your tactics and prep for each match (and this is me saying this, a person who's gone through the last three games with a single tactic and swapping individual players to adjust minimally), I don't think that the game's easier on the whole.

Made an account so I could moan. Where to start. Okay so the strikers sucks or their finishing. Played with arsenal giroud podolski don't wonk. (podolski works from wing). Got manduzkic still wont score many. So I taught need better sriker. New season brought suarez and augero. Now they receive the ball but always always shoot wide. And the annoying thing is I can have 34/17 shots/target but 0 goals and the opponent come in the 71 min 1/1 shot/target goal. Wasn't a counter.

Then there are the full backs they win most of their tackles but sometime the winger will turn them inside out and then score. And they will just back off not make a tackle.

The other thing why always shot from out side the box? I have given instruction to get ball inside the box, If the chance is not good pass it to sides or back but why shoot? To those saying the roles matter it doesn't I have ganabry on defensive winger he scored 24 goals last season in 20 matches 9 subs (3 hat-ricks against lower teams in league cup). And this season he is my top goal scorer 7 in 5 matches. I am annoyed. Playing since Fm 11 good. 12 loved it. 13 little annoying. 14 way too much annoying.

Something wrong with your tactic.
Try and set Mandzukic and Giroud to TM/s or DLF/s. I've only had an issue scoring where someone like Giroud wasn;t playing(Beneteke > Poldi in FM14).
Balance + Finishing + Strength = God like striker IMO

Totally agree. The new tactics system and new player roles make it possible to get a lot closer to emulating the tactics of real life teams. I have found the new DM roles are particularly useful. I could never get my DM or Libero to play like Pirlo or Busquets for example, but now with the Half-Back and Regista roles they behave a lot more like the real thing.

The actual match engine behaviour didnt exist for those roles last year. That's what some people haven't realised. Removing the sliders has actually allowed for behaviour that simply couldn't have existed before, and not just in the new roles.

When people such as your self are looking beyond the surface stuff, they are really seeing the leaps forward, and if we can get rid of some of the remaining issues, that would be incredible.

For all those complaining about having loads of shots and not winning. I set up to counter Man City away from home on my Liverpool save and drew 2-2. They had 40+ shots, 20 on target and 20 long shots. 70% possession and it was a 30 yarder from Kolarov in the 94th minute that saved the game for them. I had under 10 shots, and a couple of CCC which Suarez converted. Unfortunately Spain likes power cuts so I lost my progress and ended up back before that match on my save and lost it 3-0 this time using different tactics (messed up).

I used the same idea against Sunderland @Home and won 1-0 with them controlling the game and having more shots etc. Refuse to play that way with Liverpool though as it's not exactly how I like to play. Might have to try it with a midtable team.

It's not just the player that has to deal with the match engine at the moment.

The whole more shots on target thing happens in real life too. For eg. Newcastle vs Spurs yesterday. Spurs had ~15 shots on target, couldn't manage a goal.

After reading through this thread I really not sure if I should play FM14 yet, but I decidet to take the chance, so I started today... I'm just after pre-season with Inter Milan... played 7 games, won 1, drawn 1, lost 5 :/ including 1-6 beating from Bilbao and 1-4 from Anderlecht :| lost even to my reserves and some Korean team :/ highly dissapointing so far. But I'll give it some more time, maybe it's the tactic, morale or whatever... we'll see

I've just been promoted to the Skrill Premier after my first year with Guiseley. This should have enhanced my reputation with clubs e.t.c and helped me to attract a higher quality player but infact it seems to have a negative effect. Now when I look at the transfer market if I tick the box to filter out "unrealistic transfers" it leaves no one available. Any ideas?

No longer frustrated, I was handed a ?4mil transfer budget for Swansea and I'm pretty sure I didn't need to make a single signing but I made two (1.2 million for a cheap backup spanish player and he's so **** I forgot). Wage budget was arguably the biggest wall to securing what team I wanted, tried to get anderson on loan but the board just told me to "**** off".

I know I know it's VERY early in the season but I'm doing better than how well I did against Arsenal (easy fixtures so far, but I've been winning comfortably, and haven't put much effort into squad selection yet)

Anyway particularly impressed by my string of performances because I can beat most of the sides here and I'm hoping for a finish at 7th or 8th in the table!

i cant find the button we used to have to talk about a player as the dangerman next match or mind game the opposition manager before match day anymore?? the only way i have been able to is by responding to media questions..which leaves all the power in ai managers talking freely about who they want seems unfair..

its fustrating when you tell your whole team to mark closedown etc every way a player yet they still play amazing and main threat even though you warned them and double marked them..

Worth raising as a bug. I personally think the filter is far too strict, even at the elite level.

I'm not sure the problem lies specifically with the filter itself because even if you bid for a player, that the filter excludes, on a permanent deal/loan the player won't be interested even if they already play in the same league e.t.c. For instance, I just tried loaning a Leeds youngster in the U21s and he went to Salisbury in the same league as me but rejected me because he wanted to play at a higher standard. I haven't got many options available to sign at all. Infact, there's less than last season when I was in a lower league.

Edit: Just to clear up any confusion, when he rejected me, Salisbury weren't in for him - it was just me.

My left back Giliano Wijnaldum just got a 2.9 rating - TWO POINT NINE. How is that even possible?! I lost 4-0 to FC Utrecht and I think at least 3 of the goals were due to him being an absolute ****. Doesn't come to much surprise that I was on a 12 match unbeaten run (11 wins 1 draw) prior to that game. Urgh.
