The Elections for the Presidency of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo has come and Eduardo Bandeira de Mello has won a second term as President of Flamengo.

With winning the election by a comfortable margin, Eduardo promised to improve the club performance after a disappointing 10th place finish and wants to continue to improve the club structure to a more international business.

After wining the election, the president wrote a public message to the manager of Flamengo saying:

The UEFA Champions League winner Futbol Club Barcelona has won the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup after easily defeating the Copa Libertadores champions Club Atlético River Plate 5-2. Neymar was a huge factor in the game as he scored a hat trick.

Barcelona's road to their 3rd title was an easy one where they defeated the Asian Champions League winner Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club 3-1 before meeting River Plate.

The beginning of the season started promising where the club went to the finals of Campeonato Carioca before losing to their Fla-Flu rivals Fluminense 32 on aggregate.

Copa do Brasil was a disappointing campaign for the club where they were eliminated by the eventual champion and interstate rivals Atletico Mineiro in a 3-2 on aggregate duel.

Campeonato Brasileiro

Flamengo had a very disappointing campaign throughout the competition before Ronaldinho was hired to save the club. They were in the relegation zone through most of the season before the president of Flamengo sacked Oswaldo de Oliveira. With 10 remaining and the club in 18th place, the president hired Ronaldinho to try avoid going down. The new manager managed to avoid it and finish the final 10 games with a record of 7-2-1, jumping from 18th to 10th place.

The 2016 Campeonato Gaúcho is set and the competition will start early. For Flamengo, they will be forced to cancel their preseason friendlies against Club Deportivo Atlético Huila, Football Club Shakhtar Donetsk, Football Club Zenit, Football Club Red Bull Salzburg, and Club Atlético Boca Juniors.

Campeonato Carioca is the annual football championship of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was first held in 1906 and is these days organised by the Federação de Futebol do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, the state's football federation. It the third oldest league in Brazil, with only the Campeonato Paulista of São Paulo and the Campeonato Baiano of Bahia predating it.

Rivalries amongst four of the most prestigious Brazilian teams (Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense and Vasco da Gama) have marked the history of the competition. Fluminense is the team with the largest number of titles of the 20th century, with now 32, being known as the "champion of the century". Flamengo leads the new century with 8 titles and the overall counting with 33 titles.

In this year edition, Flamengo was placed in Group B in the First Stage and will 8 games. The top 4 team in Group A and B will qualify to the Second Stage, while the bottom 4 from both groups will go to the Relegation Stage.

Preseason Review

Flamengo played in 3 preseason games before the start of the Campeonato Carioca. They were supposed to play 8 games but due to the scheduling of the competition, they were forced to cancel 5 games including games against Zenit and Shakhtar.

Alex is a quality veteran central defender that can help the club back end. Many expert believe that Flamengo got a bargain deal as he only costed £190,000. He can mark opponent tightly and can take long range freekicks with power. With his light hearted personality, he can easily fit with the group and help them achieve great things. But he is not a perfect player as he is fairly injury prone and is kinda slow player but age may be a factor.

Juan Cazares is an Ecuadorian attacking midfielder. He joined Flamengo on Free Transfer after spending last 3 years with Banfield of Argentina His speed makes him one of the fastest in the club and also in the league. His fairly determined attitude will be a plus of the club as they will want him to be a key player during Campeonato Brasileiro.

The Benfica player joined Flamengo on a year long loan which will most likely help the club achieve it's goal. The attacking midfielder which can also player as a striker is a very skilled player. He can place the ball anywhere that he wants to go and loves to shoot the ball from long distance. His place in the squad a the moment will be the number 2 striker behind Paolo Guerrero but he can easily be one of the leading players in the competition this season.

The captain and long time Flamengo player will be leaving the club to join English side Watford for £4.7 million which can raise up to £6.5 million. The keeper that played his entire career with the club will now leave a big void in the net. Flamengo will now hope that Cesar or 19 year old Thiago will take reign and achieve the same success as Paulo Victor.​

First game of the season is done with and what a game it was. We were up 2-0 after 12 minutes but both teams decided to get into a UFC fight as 9 players got a yellow card.

Emerson Sheik scored the first goal after acoring a placed shot from close range. Paolo Guerrero scored the 2nd goal when he took advantage of Diogo error to score an effort from inside the penalty kick area which deflected past the goalkeeper.

Flamengo will go back home to host Portuguesa of Rio de Janeiro in a Campeonato Carioca match.​

This game was an easier game than the last one as we dominated Portuguesa. Juan Cazares scored a hat trick in his first game with the club and Kayke put in two of his own. I'm kind of disappointed that we let Portuguesa scored on us due to the limited opportunities that we gave them.

Kayke scored the first goal after a real poacher's effort from 10 metres. Juan Cazares scored a well timed finish from close range to make it 2-0. Kayke made it 3-0 after a header. Allan Barreto pulled one back for Portuguesa after a well timed finish from close range. Juan Cazares gave Flamengo the 3 goal lead again after a well timed finish from close range. Cazares got his hat trick after another well timed finish from close range. Marcio Araujo made it 6-1 after a close range finish which was timed impeccably.

Matheus Savio was forced to leave the match after 18 minutes when torn his hamstring after attempting to sprint. He will be out for 3 months and it will be a big lost for the club during the Campeonato Carioca.

Flamengo will head to Conseleiro Galvao Stadium where they will face Madureira FC.​

After selling Paulo Victor to Watford from England, Flamengo need to strengthen their goalkeeper and managed to get Giovanni, the backup keeper from their interstate rivals Atletico Mineiro, in a year long loan. The player was unhappy with his club after not playing many games due to Victor dominating the net. With this loan, Giovanni can hopefully battle against Cesar and win the starting position.

Primeira Liga Announced

The first ever edition of Primeira Liga will be played this year and the group stage was announced. The competition was founded in 2015 by clubs that are unhappy with the state championships and their low attendances and revenues. The first edition will be played in 2016. The club competition contested between the clubs from Rio de Janeiro (2), Rio Grande do Sul (2), Parana (2), Minas Gerais (3), and Santa Catarina (3). This competition is similar to the Copa do Nordeste.

The rule on team that qualify to this competition is unclear but many suggest that finalist from Campeonato Carioca, Campeonato, Campeonato Gaucho, and Campeonato Paranaense; the top 3 finish in Campeonato Mineiro and Campeonato Catarinense. Also its suggested that the club that are participating in Copa Libertadores will not be in this competition.

The competition consist of 3 groups. The winner of the group qualify to the Knockout Stage with the best 2nd placed club joining them. Each club will face each other in the group only once.

For the first ever edition, Flamengo was placed in Group B with Boa Esporte Clube, Coritiba Foot Ball Club, and Criciúma Esporte Clube.

I can't believe we dropped the ball in this game. Madureira is the type of team that we should be winning against but we didn't. But I should be happy that we left the game with a point.

Paulinho was injured during the match after being tackled. He was able to play fora bit longer but I didn't want to risk any further injury.

We finally came back to our winning ways after defeating Volta Redonda. They match was also physical due to Volta Redonda hitting our players and getting 7 cards including a sending off. With this win, we are in first place in Group B in the Campeonato Carioca, 3 points ahead of Macae.

Oscar Romero scored his first goal for the club after a well struck effort in the 71 minute. Four minutes later, Diego Morales made it 2-0 when he scored a deftly executed finish from close range. Renie from Volta Redonda got his 2nd yellow of the game and was ejected after a persistent foul. In the next play, Juan Cazares scored a free kick from the edge of the area.

Flamengo will go to Estadio de los Larios to face Tigres do Brasil in a Campeonato Carioca match.​

Another great win against Tigres do Brasil. We used a completely different squad that was used in the previous game. Kayke had a big game with 2 goals and an assist.

Kayke scored the first goal of the game with a deftly executed finish. Talisca made it 2-0 after a simple finish from close in. Kayke ended the rout after taking advantage of Alex Sassa and scored a well timed finish from close range.

Flamengo will return home to face Duque de Caxias in a Campeonato Carioca match.​

January was the first month of the 2016 campaign for Flamengo and was a fairly success one as the club went 4-1-1 in all competition. Even though that the clubs that they faced were considerable weaker than Flamengo, many of them prove to be very tough such as Boa, where they lost at home, and Madureira, where they drew.

In the month of January, Flamengo ended the month in 1st place in the competition with 13 points. They only dropped points against Madureira but overall, they are continuing to achieve their expectation. With a win in their next game against Duque de Caxias, they can qualify to the Second Stage of Campeonato Carioca.

In the first ever edition of Primeira Liga, Flamengo had a terrible start where they lost 1-0 at home to Boa. With only two games remaining and only the group winners and the best 2nd placed club goes to the Knockout Stage, Flamengo will need to win both games and need some luck.

As expected from us, we qualified to the Second Stage of Campeonato Carioca after the 1-0 win over Duque de Caxias. Even though we dominated in every aspect in the game, I wish the scoreline was a bit more comfortable. I'm happy with the win and we still want to win the group.

The only goal of the game was by Paolo Guerrero after an incisive finish from 10 metres.

Flamengo will head to Santa Catarina to face Criciuma in a Primeira Liga match.​
