We've finally done it! Finally we'll be playing our football in the best division in the world, finally, it feels great to say: Stockport County are a Premier League side. No matter what we do next season, I'll still be immensely proud of the lads. We've deserved this, all the hard work over the past 6/7 years has been for this and it's so worth it, I did want to be in this league earlier but beggers cant be chosers. Despite having minimal funds we've taken advantage of the loan market and the free market whenever we could. We've gained promotion unfortunatley without Lauri Dalla Valle who's contract ran out at his parent club Liverpool and opted for a switch to german side Hamburg SV but we wish him all the best. However, we still have Matt James, John Bostock and Liam Fontaine until January and they will all be vital in our survival.
Maybe not the best full back in the League but for a cheap £40K I thought why not, Charlie Mulgrew is outstanding and if he gets injured, I'm more than happy for Hills to cover. -- Maybe loaned out --
Emeric Bossard, £3.5m from FC Sochaux
Maybe not everyone has heard of this guy, he's got electric pace and knows where the goal is, if he fails to impress he will definatley be made a profit out of, hopefully the big money signing will prove to be vital to our survival plans.
Michael Carrick, Free Transfer
Carrick has proven Premier League abllity and at the age of 32, he probably wont be starting every game but can certainly claim a place in the heart of our midfield.
Gary Hooper, £3.5M from Hull
Thats already 7M we've spent on strikers and Gary Hooper definatley knows where the net is, all his career he's scored goals, like he did in this league for Hull City last year, and when your just coming into this league, you need to take risks and hopefully this will pay off.
Vicente Guaita, £1.2M from Villareal
This lad is an experienced keeper and is very reliable, he's capable of pulling out all the stops to keep us in games. Vicente will be vital this season.
Elliott Ward, 250K from Leicester
A very good centre half who was vital for Leicester last season. If we want to stay up this season, we need to have a solid defence, and with Elliott there, we can definatley do that and I fully believe he can be one of the bargains of the season.
Darcy Blake, Free Transfer
Last season our squad wasn't good enough for this league and needed to improve it and fill some gaps, I'm not saying Darcy will be here to make up the numbers, because he definatley has the abillity to push for a place in the heart of a midfield. - - Might Loan Out --
Roque Santa Cruz, Free Transfer
When your Stockport County manager and you see the goalscoring abillity of Santa Cruz, how can you not try and sign him? He may not pull out the goods but may be used as an impact sub.
Benjamin Gross, £2.6M loan fee from Juventus,
There was a lot of clubs sniffing around for this young lad, he's learnt his trade at one of the greatest side's in European football and hopefully he can put his education to good use and bang in the goals for us.
Matt Phillips - £275K from Portsmouth
The former Wycombe man had a great season with Portsmouth in League One last season, we was continuosly linked with Matt and he can definatley do a job down the right as that position is definatley up for grabs.
Daniel Kearns , £700K from Dundee Utd.
Danny can definatley provide the goods down the right as he can cross a ball and can keep possesion, he may not be the quickest, which I like in a winger, but he can definatley be very important and reliable in our squad this season.
Joseph Yobo, Free Transfer
Joe has a great career, he's played at international level with Nigeria and I am delighted that he looks likely to finish his career at this great club. He knows what this league is about and his experience will be vital.
Chris Hicks, £1.9M from Rangers
The 19 year old definatley has a great future ahead of him, he is definatley worth the £1.9M and can challenge Charlie Mulgrew for that place at left-back, it will be interesting to see who will be the first choice left-back this season.
More to come in August update
New Assistant:
Me and Jonathan Woodgate didn't really get on, he didn't help me out on how to keep the opponents quiet so I decided to sack him and have appointed this man:
OK, so we've started the season, lost every game, played without fear, scored just 2 goals, passed the ball well, created chances. Am I happy? Definatley, we've been playing really well and it's took brilliance to beat us, we've not battered in the games, we've put up a decent fight, and the fans realise that, we know this season's going to be tough, and so do the lads, they've got nothing to lose this season and nothing to prove, we need to show this league we're not going to sit back and get all men behind the ball. We look dangerous going forward, Jason Puncheon has been our best player this season, he looks very threatening and when Gary Hooper comes back, I think them goes will definatley come.
After spendind all of his illustrious career at Liverpool, Jamie Carragher has joined Stockport County as a coach. Jamie was a Youth Coach at Liverpool but has now taken the step us to be a full-time coach.
"It's a target of mine to be a manager, and I feel I will progress more as a coach here than I would as Youth Coach at Liverpool, I will always thank Liverpool for what they've done, my opinion's of them don't change but it was the right time, but who knows, maybe some day I could be manager of Liverpool!" Said Jamie Carragher.
I've told the lads that I'm looking for just 6 wins before January, this will give us around 18 points, plus some draws, so maybe be between 18 - 25 points, anything plus that is a bonus. The other half of the season is aiming for that 40 point total, if we go down and we get around 40 points, it won't matter, it at least shows we can compete in this league. Well, we've won 2 games, and we should of won another against Blackburn Rovers but it took some brilliance from Michael Potts to clinch the vital 3 points for Blackburn. After the game I informed Alan Shearer of my admiration of the 23 year old. And I am absoloutely delighted to confirm that Michael Potts will sign for us in January with Jason Puncheon and Beg Fehrati going the other way. It will be sad to see them go, because the past season's they've been brilliant. Jason Puncheon was our top scorer and our player of the season and we had to reject some high bids to keep hold of him, he's now 29 and is the right time for him to move on.
We currently lie 19th which, surprisingly I'm delighted with.
Stockport County still lie at the bottom of the Premier League despite putting up some very good and brave performances. The 1-1 draw against Chelsea, the highlight result. Stockport led for the majority of the game but a late goal from Landon Donovan broke Stockport hearts. Stockport confirmed the signing of Michael Potts from Blackburn and manager Sam Charnock said he is delighted with the signing. "While it was a shame to see Jason Puncheon and Beg Ferati to leave, Michael Potts is a brilliant aquisition to our squad, and has already shown that with great performances in our 3 man midfield."
Stockport fans fear that manager Sam Charnock is already building for life in the Championship. "I'm not building for Championship football, we're building for the future, we dont have the biggest funds in the league so we have to be careful with what we use it with."
Transfer Request? Fine!
After being asked if Stockport do get relegated, Stockport manager responded by saying there will be no major players leaving the club. Why would I let Premiership players leave, they can hand in a transfer request if they like, they'll still be playing in whatever division we're in."
