Swans Fly High(Swansea FM Story)

Contract talks, first sacking and the dreaded Christmas period

A tough away fixture to Liverpool, with N'Zonzi suspended for 1 game after 5 yellow cards. The lads did very well to take a point here, fortunately when you consider the amount of chances Liverpool created, Ince scored and Hernadez again scoring a late goal against one of the big boys.

View attachment 458793View attachment 458792
With the club only offering me a 1 year contract at the start of the season, the board decided to try and offer me a new contract after a great start to life at Swansea. I only made a few changes, asking for improved training facilities and a yearly wage rise, the board accepted both terms. I didn't get much of a wage increase but overall I'm very happy to sign a 3 year deal and continue to progress with this club.

A massive game as we play our first Welsh derby at home to Cardiff, when I seen their starting 11, I was confident of the win ahead of this one. Very frustrating to draw this one, only 2 out of 21 shots on target, that's shocking. We dominated the game, it just wasn't our day, we were unlucky.

View attachment 458789View attachment 458788
Probably the toughest game we'll face in this group, away to Bordeaux, they needed a win to qualify, which is worrying because we've already qualified but hopefully the lads don't get complacent. Michu scores in an evenly match game, 1-1 in the end, as they qualify despite drawing the game.

View attachment 458787View attachment 458786
After scraping through in the last few rounds, I was expecting another difficult game, away to West Brom. Fantastic performance from the lads, in a close encounter, Dyer equalised and then Strandberg opened his account for the club, with a late goal.

View attachment 458785View attachment 458784
We continue to defend our cup, but now there's only the big boys left in the competition, Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal. It would take something very special to advance against Chelsea over 2 games, it's playing away at Stamford Bridge that worrys me, although we did pick up a point there, early on in the season. Hopefully they'll rotate and leave their better players out.

View attachment 458783
Down to the business in the Europa League as the last 32 and last 16 draws are announced. The draw was very hard on us, handing us a difficult tie against Schalke in the last 32 and a tougher opponent in Tottenham in the last 16, If they can progress against FC Red Bull Salzburg. My excitement for our progress this season was hit with these disappointing draws, still, I think we still have a fighting chance, the pressure should be off us and on Schalke in the last 32, hopefully that will help.

View attachment 458769
Sunderland sack Poyet, as Pulis takes charge. Here comes the busy Christmas period, 3 very winnable games as well, it's important that we pick up plenty of points here, as we've began to slip down the table into the bottom half, after that lose to Arsenal and 2 draws against Liverpool and Cardiff. An excellent performance from the lads, as we dominate Palace away, Ince and Shelvey the scorers.

View attachment 458781
View attachment 458780View attachment 458779
I was hoping that Bony finally pulls his finger out after giving him a big introduction before the season started. He finally ended his goal drought on his return and scored, Ince the other scorer. Davies got sent off for the second time this season, very frustrating, fortunately it didn't cost us the game.

View attachment 458778View attachment 458777
After playing Stoke just 2 days before, there were some very tired legs in the team, so we were almost forced to rotate. A bore 0-0 draw, as the low fitness levels and frustrating fixture list costs us an easy win against the leagues bottom team.

View attachment 458776View attachment 458775
No real standout consistent performers this month, Tom Ince played well but Strandberg gets player of the month, with 1 goal and 1 assist and around an average rating of 7.2.

View attachment 458771
View attachment 458774
A decent month for the team, we started off a little disappointingly with 3 draws, 2 of which we should of been looking to win, we then go on well to win 3 games in a row and end the month on a frustrating draw against Sunderland. Next time we have an even busier month, with 8 fixtures, we'll see how the team handle it.

9 games in a busy month, Transfer shocker, Season so far and Wembley awaits?

View attachment 458165
A very difficult away game to Man Utd, who are top of the league, it would take something very special to come away from Old Trafford with anything. Michu opened the scoring as we go on to lose with Utd scoring twice from RVP, Strandberg continues his great form, with another excellent game.

View attachment 458164
View attachment 458163
Big rotation in the side, as we rest a lot of key players and Kuciak makes his debut in goal. Fantastic effort by the players, to not get complacent and give such a commanding performance is very pleasing, Burton got an absolute spanking! Stevenage, away, in the fourth round.

View attachment 458162View attachment 458161
We kick off our Semi final against Chelsea, in the Capital One Cup, at the Liberty, their best team wasn't out but their rotation players are still very good. An absolutely brilliant performance from the team, to stop Chelsea scoring is a brilliant achievement, not only that, we outplayed them and to take a lead to the second leg is great, Michu scoring the only goal.

View attachment 458160View attachment 458158
James Wallace comes in for 300k, from Tranmere. Not the best player we'll ever sign but a consistent player with a few years of development left in him, for that price you can't really complain, ultimately a rotation option.

View attachment 458159
We really do have some tough fixtures this month and here's another one away to Spurs. Another fantastic performance and the result to match from the lads, not the greatest of games but if we can continue to stop the big boys scoring against us, we're in for a great month, Wallace came on, late in the game to make his debut.

View attachment 458157View attachment 458156
Southampton are the surprise package this season, sitting in 6th place, Wallace makes his first start. I think we did well to leave with a point here, slightly fortunate I'll admit, Michu equalising late on. Ince picked up an injury early in the game, Lindpere is on his way out so I was looking for a loan before this injury. I looked at a number of players, the board didn't give me much freedom with wages, so I've gone for Bob Schepers

View attachment 458146
View attachment 458155View attachment 458153
We should be looking to win this one, as we haven't won a league game in our last 4. A solid win for the lads, Dyer scored, we probably should have scored more. I've had enough of Bony, I was planning on giving him until the end of the season to sort his performances out but I've tried role changes, I've lost count of how many chats I've had with him, my patience with him is gone. This is a 30 goal per season man, I've done it many times in FM, his stats are even better this year but sometimes the stats lie, If I can't get decent money for him, hopefully he will pull his finger out after he realises I want rid of him.

View attachment 458152View attachment 458151
You'll find out shortly what happened with Bony but on to the biggest game of the season thus far, with the final at Wembley awaiting for the winner, this game was massive! We hold out until Chelsea score late on in the game, despite the Chelsea domination. Vazquez came on in extra time to try and save the day but despite 2 fantastic performances we go out of the cup to another late strike, this time by Eto'o. Despite losing 2-0, I'm proud of the team after that performance, to hold Chelsea into ET over 2 legs is a fantastic achievement.

View attachment 458150View attachment 458149
As we go out of one cup, my attention to get in to Europe next season now goes to trying to win the FA Cup. 3-0, Vazquez scored twice and Dyer scored once, good win for the lads as we progress to face Norwich or Millwall at home in the fifth round.

View attachment 458148View attachment 458147
I wanted some revenge after Chelsea knocked us out of the Capital One Cup, Schepers make his debut, as the fitness levels in the team hit an all time low. We lose 3-1 in a difficult game, ultimately the low fitness levels in the squad costing us, as we had to rotate.

View attachment 458145View attachment 458144
So what happened with Bony, well to my shock, Juventus put a 21.5M bid in for him, no monthly installments, the fee was straight up. With an average rating of 6.67, 15 starts, 8 substition appereances and only 3 goals and 1 assist, I jumped at the chance to sell him for such a price. I'd already arranged 4 deals on free transfers with their contracts up at the end of the season, who I'll leave anonymous until then, although I will say the reason we bought Schepers in on loan, instead of buying an AML is because we have one, ready and waiting for next season.

View attachment 458138
I now had 15M to spend and a squad who were having a great season, so to keep the chemistry and spirit high, after we signed Wallace, I just went for the 1 transfer, opting to remain patient and save my money until the summer. Katsouranis went out on loan so we bought in Albin Ekdal, I hope he'll come straight in and slot into my central midfield alongside Shelvey and Strandberg very consistent stats, can't wait to see how he does!

View attachment 458142
This months player of the month goes to Neil Taylor, after Ben Davies got a 2 game suspension last month, Taylor come in and has been keeping him out of the side ever since. With an average rating of around 7.5 in 6 starts, he's been solid defensively and pretty good going forward as well, this year it really feels like your more experienced players are more consistent and the younger ones have a tendency to be inconsistent despite their wonder kid attributes.

View attachment 458141View attachment 458112

So we're one place down in the league since the last season so far update I did, for me we're still in good solid position and we have a game or two in hand over the teams around us. We're still in Europe and our best chance of Europe, the FA Cup, unfortunately we got knocked out of the Capital One Cup to Chelsea. As for player stats well, the season isn't over yet so I don't want to comment too much but Shelvey, Michu, Reveillere and Dyer are my standout performers this season, with Canas and Chico disappointing in overall consistency.

View attachment 458113

View attachment 458143
At first glance, this month of results looks very mixed but under the circumstances there wasn't really a bad result or performance, we won all the games we were expected to win, with that fantastic win against Chelsea at The Liberty and some good away draws to Southampton and Spurs. Next month the busy fixture list continues and after almost upsetting the odds against Chelsea, we see if we can really upset the odds against Schalke in the Europa League.

Sorry guys, I forgot, I've done another 3 months so I was suppose to do a season so far update. Just updated the most recent post now.

View attachment 457499
Ekdal makes his debut and first start, after just signing, we play in a difficult away trip against Everton. I would of taken a draw here, but it looks like the rotation cost us as we get slaughtered out there, losing 2-0.

View attachment 457498View attachment 457497
We need to start picking up some points in the league, as we're starting to slip down the table, another tough away fixture. Michu scoring a fantastic late strike in a game we dominated, massive win for the lads!

View attachment 457496View attachment 457495
Two back to back games against Norwich now, both at home, we should be looking to win them both really. We win the first battle in the league, after playing poorly and being 1-0 down at half time, the lads put in one **** of a second half performance to win us the game, Schepers scores his first goal, Shelvey and Vazquez with the others.

View attachment 457494View attachment 457493
The second battle is more important, with a place in the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup at stake. Schepers and Shelvey again scoring as we beat Norwich for the second time, another good performance from the lads, we advance to play Aston Villa away.

View attachment 457492View attachment 457491
On to the Europa League now and the an away game against Schalke awaited. Very evenly matched game as they sneak a 1-0 in to the second leg at our home ground, The Liberty. Slightly frustrated not to come away with an away goal but the tie is still ours for taking, if we can do the business at home.

View attachment 457488View attachment 457487
With the game against Schalke in mind, I rotated the squad in this game. When you consider the players who started and the statistics, that's a great result for us, Wallace got sent off frustratingly, he could of cost us the game.

View attachment 457486View attachment 457485
Tom Ince is back and I was tempted to start him, but his fitness isn't quite back at the moment, massive game this one! A great game with incredible late drama, yet again we're agonisingly close to upsetting the odds. We dominated this game and are very unlucky to go out, Shelvey, Hernadez and Ekdal the scorers as we narrowly miss out because of away goals. Look at them stats! That is the definition of unlucky!

View attachment 457484View attachment 457483
For the second month running, I'm going for Neil Taylor as my player of the month, with an average rating of around 7.5, there's not really a lot to see about this man, he doesn't get many assists or goals, he's just consistent and does he job at DL very well.

View attachment 457480
View attachment 457482
A very mixed month for the lads, we do well in the league winning three games and losing one, advance to the quarter finals of the FA Cup and very unfortunately get knocked out of Europe. Next time we see if the team is heading for a mid table finish or a sneaky push for the European places and speaking of Europe, our best chance of it, next season, is winning the FA Cup.

When posting an update, click go advanced, once you've inserted your image in, double click it while editing, that will give you options to change the size and the alignment of the image.

So we kick of the month with a 5 month training injury to Chico, great! Tough away fixture against Newcastle now, who have picked up some good form lately. It won't win any awards for being a great game but to take a point away to Newcastle, I feel is a solid result.

View attachment 456634View attachment 456633
We swiftly move on to a massive game away to Aston Villa in the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup. A very evenly matched game, as Tom Ince grabbed a late goal to send us in to the semi finals to face Brighton and then either City, Spurs or Utd in the Final. I was very happy with that draw, we should really be beating Brighton easily in the semi and we'll face a tough game in the Final.

View attachment 456632View attachment 456612
The injuries continue as Reviellere picks up a nasty injury, 3 months will keep him until the end of the season. I wanted to give him a little mention, as the man is 34, his stats are decreasing, his contract is up at the end of the season and I'd decided before this injury I wouldn't be renewing it. As you can see his performances have been extremely consistent this season and he's done a great job for the Swans in his short spell with the club.

View attachment 456628View attachment 456629
We signed Oscar Lewicki on a free transfer, after his agent approached me. After we've worked in training on his composure, hopefully a loan or two will improve his overall stats, definetely one for the future.

View attachment 456627
Fulham up next, a home game we should be winning but we had to rotate the odd player. A solid 2-0 win for the team, Ince and Shelvey scored the goals as we give Fulham a battering, that's embarassing for a league game. Unfortunately Shelvey picked up an injury and is out for two weeks.

View attachment 456606View attachment 456605
The youth intake was hardly worth mentioning, as there's nobody who really stands out. With City on a poor run of form of late, I went for this one, there was no fear of relegation so we may aswell push on and try to win a difficult European place. Michu missed a penalty in the first half as they hold out for a 0-0 draw, we had the better of the game and could of won it, I'm frustrated we didn't win, despite that being a very good point and result.

View attachment 456626View attachment 456625
Villa up next as the busy fixture list continues, Kuciak wanted first team football, so i've gave him a chance. We were fortunate to get away with a point in this game, Villa played really well and dominated the game, it seems like when we have to rotate the team, the back up players just aren't good enough.

View attachment 456624View attachment 456623
Liverpool sack Rodgers and sign Bielsa, I'm always interested to sign how Liverpool do, being a massive fan and I've been following them all my life but it seems the CPU managers always fail at Liverpool. On to the game anyway, a home game to Arsenal. An absolutely brilliant performance from the lads, Arsenal are a very good team and we abssolutely slaughter them.

View attachment 456622View attachment 456621
View attachment 456620View attachment 456619
Another away game against Fulham this time, Shelvey comes back from injury. Michu scoring twice in a deserving win. Ekdal is out for 3 weeks after picking up an injury, I'm frustrated, as that injury means he'll miss the FA Cup semi final next month.

View attachment 456618View attachment 456617
Not Neil Taylor grabbing player of the month again? This month he's poped up with a few assists and in 5 games has has an average rating of 8.56. This guy is playing absolutely brilliantly at the moment and If i'm honest the first half of the season, I dropped him far too much, expecting big things from Davies and ultimately being bias.

View attachment 456614
View attachment 456616
A great month for the lads, I mean the only disappointing stuff, was that we didn't beat City after having the better of the play and we got dominated away at Villa, but apart from that. It's been a fantastic month, the Arsenal result, is of course the highlight. Next time the team face Brighton at Wembley in the semi finals of the FA Cup, we see if the lads can continue their good league form and beat Chelsea to that 5th place Europa League spot.

This is a quality story, amazed that you aren't talking about Tom Ince, he must be your top goal scorer? And he'd have buried that penalty that Michu missed!

Thanks man, I certainly hope he would of scored that penalty! Here's a a screenshot of Tom's performances over the season, he's definitely up there with our top goalscorers, I felt it was a mixed season for the lad, some good games followed by some inconsistency. I guess you expect that from a young player, he's only 22 and will definitely progress more over the coming seasons.

Very nice story but you seem to be unable to get any consistency.

I think thats due to your tactics being too gang ho. Imho you need at least one midfielder on defending duties ...

My tactics have changed quite a bit since my first post, I guess I'm still learning about the new features in the game, finding what works for me, the game's only been out a few weeks. Thanks for the feedback, I'll have two posts out today guys!

As you can see by the upcoming fixtures, there's only five games in April and two games in May, so I'm fitting them all it one update. On to the game, and a massive derby game to Cardiff, despite being away, I really wanted to win this one and give the fans the bragging rights, after we didn't take our chances last time. Fantastic result for the Swansea fans, I felt we just edged the game, Hernandez scoring the only goal.

View attachment 456177View attachment 456176
A rotated a few players in this one, although we're playing Championship side, Brighton in the FA Cup semi finals, I still wanted to make sure we had every chance of winning our first trophy. It doesn't matter though, because the lads still have the better of the play and pick up the 3 points, captain fantastic Williams scores!

View attachment 456175View attachment 456174
On to the Brighton game, the biggest game of the season and it could define our season. An own goal and two from Vazquez as we dominate Brighton and ease through to the Final, to play Man United.

View attachment 456173View attachment 456172
Next up we play Southampton at home, we would need to take maximum points from our last 4 league games, if we were to beat Chelsea to that 5th place Europa League spot. Wallace scored his first goal for the club and Vazquez and Hernandez continue their great form of late with another goal each, as we outplay The Saints and win 3-1.

View attachment 456171View attachment 456170
With our performances of late, you'd think Palace would be a walk over, but we still have to turn up. The team absolutely turned up, a solid win for the team, Michu scores in a game we dominated.

View attachment 456169View attachment 456168
Williams won player of the month for April with 4 appereances, 1 goal and an average rating of 7.80 and I won the manager of the month award for the first time. Next up is a difficult away game to Stoke, with Chelsea on a poor run of form, we only need one win from our last two games to confirm 5th place. Amat scored our only goal, in a fairly standard 1-1 draw, we had the better of the game, so we can consider ourselves a little unlucky.

View attachment 456167View attachment 456166
After some abysmal form from Chelsea, we will finish in 5th place this season, whatever the score is in this game, it's still important we keep our good form going in to the FA Cup final though. A very good win for the lads, to round off an excellent league season, Shelvey and Vazquez the scorers.

View attachment 456165View attachment 456164
Swansea finish their highest ever of 5th place in the Barclays Premier League, we make more history by appearing in our first ever FA Cup final. Amat picked up an injury but it was the last game of the season so we give him an injection, to get him through the game. Some shocking defending let in Kagawa to make it 1-0, but The Swans replied immediately, Williams scoring.

View attachment 456161

Cleverly scored in the second half to sink the hopes of a first trophy with Swansea. We can hold our heads high after that performance despite the result, we had the better of the play and we we were unfortunate not to win, ultimately it just wasn't to be.
View attachment 456160View attachment 456159
Hughton sacked after Norwich were relegated, Martin O'Neill takes over.

View attachment 456163View attachment 456162
Despite the disappointment of not winning our first trophy, these two months have been absolutely fantastic from the team. The lose in the FA cup isn't to bad, when you consider our fantastic twelve game unbeaten run in the league, drawing three and winning nine, that means we will be in Europe next season and I feel like I'm really getting used to the team now, finding some consistency.

View attachment 456156
As this update covers 2 months, they'll be no player of the month, instead. Next time we'll see how the final league table and stats look, take a look back at the season, with a season review, see who performed and who let the team down, with our player stats and plenty of player awards.

Excellent season there mate, especially to finish above Chelsea!

With some good signings in the summer a trophey will be round the corner I am sure.

View attachment 455970
As you can see it was a fantastic season in the league for the team, it looked like we were destined for a high mid table finish all season, then we hit March and the team hit a fantastic run of form to finish 5th ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool. In terms of awards, I came second to David Moyes in manager of the year, as he won United the league and Michu was named in the team of the year, as a substitute.

View attachment 455977
We move on to the overall player stats for the season. I think it's quite clear who's the stand out player, I was a little disappointed that Neil Taylor didn't win any awards or even finish in the team of the year, as he finished way above everyone in average ratings, but I guess he didn't play enough games over the season.

View attachment 455976
Now on to some awards, we start off with signing of the season, who's been our best signing this season? Strandberg and Reviellere are the contenders, both very consistent this season, making plenty of appereances. I'm going for Reviellere, he missed the end of the season, and his contract expires in the off season, but this man has been great all season, very consistent and I'll be reluctant to see him go.

View attachment 455971
The next award is most improved player, Jordi Amat, Ben Davies, Jonjo Shelvey and Stefan Strandberg, i feel have improved as footballers really well over the last season. This lad wins it by a mile though, just wait until you see these attributes from Jonjo Shelvey, the guy is shaping in to an all round, beast of a central midfielder.

View attachment 455975
We move on to young player of the season, and the players mentioned in the last award are also contenders for this one, along with Alvaro Vazquez. Jonjo absolutely deserves another award, and he gets it, very happy with him and his work this season.

View attachment 455972

Lastly on to the big one, the player of the season, Taylor and Williams come close, but I've gone for Michu, I feel he's won me more points than anyone this season and that's why I think he deserves it. Taylor of course had a much higher average rating but he didn't play as many games as Michu.

View attachment 455973
So who caught my eye this season and who could be heading for my boot, followed by the door? Apart from the obvious players I've just talked about for the awards, I felt Hernandez, Dyer, Rangel and Ince all had decent seasons, Ekdal and Kuciak were good despite their small amount of appereances. N'Zonzi was a very frustrating playing to work with as he picked up an incredible sixteen yellow cards and got banned for four games, over the season, Tremmel and Canas will definetely be shown the door. Wallace disappointed me with his performances but like Ince, he's still young and will get more consistent over time.

View attachment 455974
Finally, on to the season review. I've already discussed the league earlier on, so i'll leave that. In the cup competitions, we did fantastic in the FA Cup, narrowly missing out to United in the final, another great cup run, as we did very well to take Chelsea to extra time in the Capital One Cup. The Europa league was a little disappointing, if you asked me at the start of the season, my aim for that competition, I probably would of said last 16. The draw was hard on us, an incredibly unlucky game in our second leg against Schalke, put us out. Despite that it's been a brilliant season for Swansea, the highlight of the season being a fantastic fifth place finish in the league, next season I hope to push on for a top four finish!

One of the biggest problems i had last season, was the lack of quality in some of my rotation players, i'll be looking to sort this out, so we can break in to the top four and play Champions League football. Next time we take a look at pre season results, the season preview and who got the boot and who signs for the forever rising, flying swans!

Could you post a screenshot of Michu's attributes and stats for the season? :)

View attachment 455300
Our predicted finish in the league is up from last season from 9th to 7th, and rightly so as we finished an incredible 5th place. I'm very confident about finishing higher than 7th this season, I'm looking to break in to the top four to get that Champions League football, I'd be happy with another 5th place finish, then have another real strong push next season.

View attachment 455311
It was pointless me raising the boards expectations of finishing in the top half of the table, because the little extra for transfers, wasn't needed. They asked me in early July, and I'd already done almost all of my transfer business in June. For those curious, the board gave me a huge 35M to spend, I was shocked, we had 12M left over from January so I was expecting around 20M to spend.

View attachment 455312
The club announce a feeder club agreement with League 1 side, Millwall. After I'd requested that they look for a feeder club, with the main purpose, of being able to send players out on loan more easily.

View attachment 455310
To say there was lots of transfers this summer was an under statement, there was tons! Notable outs are Williams, Hernandez and Michu, who all had had great or good seasons, for some very strange reason, Williams wanted to leave for a similar sized club in Southampton, unwilling to sign a new contract and with only one year left on his contract, I didn't want to lose him on a free.

Milan came knocking for Michu and perhaps the biggest reason all of these players left is their age, I know right, none of them have even hit 30 yet, but it seems this year players are starting to decline as footballers at a ridiculous 27! If you ask me, players don't start declining as footballers until they hit 31 or 32, and that's only physically, they should still improve technically and mentally, but I guess, that's the game.

With plenty of players in, I could talk for ages, but I'll just mention a few names. Vazquez made his deal permanent, after a decent season, Marcellis and Dja Djedje bring energy after both of our ageing right backs leave. Chadli and Capoue, who both come in from Spurs, will both be key players over the coming season and a player I was very surprised to sign was Muslera, he's a top quality player and for a club like Swansea to bring him in is a brilliant achievement.

All of my other signings are either, prospects, rotation players or players who will have to earn their first team place, but we did bring Joe Allen back to the club from Liverpool. Speaking of prospects, Blackman, Cirigliano, Zabret, Bennett and Wallace all go out on loan to gain some experience, while the club got rid of plenty of dead wood over the summer.

A decent pre season, I'm very optimistic ahead of the new season, we made quite a lot of transfers, so it might take few weeks to gel, but I'm going to play as many of the survivors from last season as possible. As for top four, it's going to be difficult, but we certainly have a better squad than last year, so why not? Next time we find out how Swansea start the season and find out if they qualify for the Europa League, in an easy tie against HJK.
