Swans Fly High(Swansea FM Story)

Good read mate, Whats your aims for this season a Cup or focusing on the league, Transfers look good too i always end up changing very little as im too worried to make big changes to my side!

Thanks, I always try to go as far as possible in every competition, but I feel like it will be very difficult to win all three competitions this season, particularly the league title. We'll see how it goes.

There was a war of words between myself and Steve Clarke before the match, the pressure was very high, and our side handled it brilliantly, as West Brom just didn't turn up, Stoke await in the final.

View attachment 450774
I was a little disappointed not to win the away game against Besiktas, we outplayed them, and after taking the lead late on, it was even more disappointing to be pegged back. We play AZ Alkmaar in the semi finals of the Europa League.

Federico Viviano wins this months player of the month award, he's been pretty consistent all season, but this month he's been on another level, with six assists, and one goal in six starts.

View attachment 450764
We're still in with a shot of winning the league, despite our slip up to Stoke, if we win both games in hand we'll be two points ahead of United, but the fixture list is very busy next month, and we still have to play Man City away.

A decent month for the lads, we won plenty of games, but I was frustrated not to pick up wins at home to Stoke and away to Besiktas, the 5-1 win against AZ at home was very pleasing though, it would take a miracle for us to the lose the tie now. Next month, we have a very busy fixture list, as we play catch up in the league, we play our second final of the season, in the FA Cup against Stoke, and we'll surely beat AZ to make it three finals this season.

An absolute battering by our lads, as we completely annihilate AZ 8-3 on aggregate. Surprisingly we play Newcastle in the final, who beat Lyon 2-0 on aggregate to reach the final, I said surprisingly because they're fighting relegation in the league this season. Very confident that we can lift this trophy.

Up next is the FA Cup, after losing to United last year, I was extremely determined to be the one celebrating this time! Overall we had the edge in the game, creating more chances, having more possession, and outplaying Stoke, that was reflected in the score, Ince scoring a penalty early in the game, Umtiti scoring shortly after. I'm very happy to win a second trophy with the club, as we do the double, unfortunately Ben Davies picked up an injury and is out for the rest of the season.

As you can see we would need to pick up an incredibly difficult away win against Man City to have any chance of winning the title, due to United's inferior goal difference. This will be our last game in hand, before the last league game of the season, even a win against City, wouldn't win us the title, we'd still need to win our last game and hope United slip up. City just edged it, we stayed in the game for the whole match, but frustratingly we lost the game late on.

The penultimate league game of the season, it would take an absolute miracle to win the league title, United would need to lose very badly away to Spurs, and we would need to absolutely destroy Fulham away, to catch up to their plus fourteen goal difference. I know it's sounds impossible, and I'm either a dreamer or a fool, yup, we're going overload against Fulham, we have nothing to lose, LETS DO THIS!
View attachment 450352
Did I really think we had even the slightest chance of winning it, in this position? Of course not, but you have to try, we won our game but only marginly in the end, 2-1, Spurs did well and beat United 2-0, but it wasn't enough, as United win the title for the second consecutive season.

Now on to some Premier league awards, Muslera came second to De Gea in the Golden Glove award, and for the second season running, Moyes has beaten me to the Manager of the Year award, as well as the title! Being a Liverpool fan, my dislike for him is obvious, but this save is taking it to another level, next year, I will beat him!

After the disappointed of not winning the league title, we can end the season on a great note, by beating Newcastle to the Europa League, who themselves, will be looking to end the season on a high, after being relegated from the Premier League.

View attachment 450350
It looks like Newcastle were still dwelling on relegation, as our boys bounce back to outplay them in the final, Strandberg scored, and Ince bagged two goals. Brilliant performance from the lads, that's our third trophy this season, as we go unbeaten in all cup competitions.

Rescaldani is our player of the month, with six goals, and two assists in four starts, he made quite a few appereances coming off the bench, but that's a great month from the lad, and he ended the season as my top goalscorer.

View attachment 450345
It's been a up and down month for the lads, dropped points away to West Brom caused by the congested fixture list, we lifted our second trophy with a great result against Stoke in the FA Cup, moving on to narrowly miss out on the title against United, and topping it all off by dominating another final, this time in the Europa League against Newcastle.

View attachment 450346
Next time we take a look at the final showing in the league, with the table and player stats, we also take a look at the overall player stats across the season, give out our end of season awards, and review our fantastic season.

Thanks, I'm very happy with the treble. I better win the league, or I'm going to find David Moyes, and do some very bad things lol.

I didn't realise but the English league actually dropped down to second, in competition reputation, at the end of our first season, with the Spanish league moving up a place, they now get four teams in the Champions League, while our league only gets three. I guess that means there's less margin for error when trying to qualify for the CL, but I intend to win the league next season, not settle for a top three finish.

The league table looks brilliant for the Swans, despite coming a close second to United. We've exceeded expectations again this season, I believe we were predicted a seventh place finish, at the start of the season, and I was going for a Champions league football, we've achieved that. I said before, but I was surprised Newcastle got relegated, Everton also finished towards the low end of the table.
View attachment 450294
Despite finishing second in the league, the player stats don't look great for Swansea, Muslera was tied second in most games won, he also came second for most clean sheets. I had to find you guys something else, there wasn't much, but Taylor did come in 5th place in average tackles per game, with just over thirteen.

View attachment 450293
Moving on to our awards for the season. The Signing of the Season award, isn't an award that has many contenders. I picked out Chadli, Capoue and Muslera as three key transfers, at the start of the season and they've all performed fairly consistently without giving me fireworks, Vazquez comes close, perhaps the surprise package of the season, it's Viviani. Coming in as Shelveys backup play maker, he's been better than Shelvey, and one of our best and most consistent performers.

View attachment 450289
The Most Improved Player? Well Umtiti, Davies, Viviani, Amat, Ince and Cirigliano, have all progressed really well this past year, but there's two player who standout massively. Shelvey once again has made massive improvements this year, despite being extremely inconsistent, and not getting as many goals and assists as I would of liked. For his performances alone this award goes to Rescaldani, he's been one of our best players this season, his progression has been second to none, and he can only get better. He's only twenty two, just look at them attributes!

View attachment 450292
Young Player of the Season award, like the most improved player award, there's plenty of names you can talk about for this award, apart from those listed for the previous award, Dja Djedje is another young player who's performed well over the last season, but it has to be Rescaldani doesn't it? For the sake of variety, I've gone for Vazquez, our two strikers have been extremely consistent this past season, our strikers are looking great.
View attachment 450288
Some of you are probably surprised Rescaldani didn't get the last award, and wondered what I meant by, for the sake of variety. Well it seems a little bit stupid and selfish to pick the same player for both awards, so Rescaldani wins the Player of the Season award. Players like Taylor, Davies and Manga had much higher average ratings, which means Rescaldani has been inconsistent, sure he has, but his contribution of combined goals and assists is higher than anyone else, and you don't win games unless you create and score goals.
View attachment 450290
Overall player stats look brilliant this season, we really did get rid of the average, and brought plenty of quality to the club, last summer. I was very impressed with Manga and Viviani this season, they both come in as rotation/back up players to be honest, but they've been two of our best players this season.

On the whole every member of our group was at the least, consistently good, one player I will definitely be selling is Marcellis. He's really sound defensively, but going forward, my other full backs are much better, I just don't see him get forward much, quite simply he's a traditional full back, not a modern day full back, and that doesn't fit my system. It's difficult to single anyone else out, I guess with his ability, Shelvey should be having a much better season, but apart from that, I'm really happy with the squad.

View attachment 450291
As for the season review, well it's been a magnificent season for Swansea. We've done the treble, the Capital One Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League, staying unbeaten in every cup game. In a great title challenge from us, a brilliant title race from the contenders, giving plenty of entertainment for the viewers. We ran United close, eventually lose on goal difference, so overall that's the only slight disappointment, not to win the title, but apart from that it's been a huge season for Swansea, we achieved what I wanted, and then some!

Next time find out who got sold, and who comes in, I don't expect there will be much activity, but then again, a lot of our players are attracting a lot of interest. We also take a look at season expectations and preview the upcoming third season.

The board decided to upgrade the training facilities further, despite the progress of our current upgrade plans, great news for the club, very pleased with that.

View attachment 449941
The transfer budget made available was nowhere near last years, but we did go in to the red with our wages, around 120k over in wages. I decided to renew some contracts throughout the season, the wages also increased from around 600k to 1M over the past year, and we still had money left from the Bony deal. These are the only reasons I can think of, that would result in us not having as much to spend this summer.
View attachment 449940
Arsene Wenger retired, so Arsenal wanted me, but I'm very happy at Swansea, so I swiftly declined.

View attachment 449939
The board offered me a new deal just over a week before the new season, I didn't want to ask for any requests as the finances aren't great at the moment, there's bank loans and that big spending spree from last summer to pay off, hopefully Champions League football will fix this.

View attachment 449938
Marcellis left the club for reasons I'd already explained, Jaime, is a good player but he never performed in the big games, I was never convinced he was good enough for the big occasions, so he moved on. I was trying to find new clubs for Johnson and Kuciak all summer, as up and coming youngsters Cirigliano and Zabret, take their places. I had to settle for a loan for Kuciak, with no transfer interest, and I'll be looking to get Johnson off the wage bill before the end of the transfer window.

View attachment 449937
Stanciu comes in to replace Jaime, and has progressed very well in the last two years, I expect him to be a very key player this year, he certainly has the ability, and Montoya replaces Marcellis, definitely a much better player going forward. Ginter and Capezzi are players for the future, they won't be ready this season.

View attachment 449935
A solid pre season, this season I decided to take charge of all pre season games, I was giving Montoya and Stanciu as much game time as possible, as I want them to come straight in, and be first team players.

View attachment 449934
With one year left on his deal I'd been trying to get Neil Taylor to sign a new deal all summer, he won't open contract negotiations because he dislikes Swansea, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, as he's about to start his sixth season with the club. I tried to talk to him, but that just made things worse, he requested a transfer two days before the opening game of the season, a Community Shield game against United. Remember this man, is my captain, talk about letting the side down, he's still here, but probably not for much longer.

Next time see if Taylor stays or goes, and if he leaves, who's going to replace him? There's a tough away game to Liverpool in the league, we have a chance to win two trophies in the first month of the season, the Community Shield against United, and can we beat the giants Real Madrid in the European Super Cup?

I would say I wanted to get one over on Moyes more than I wanted to this trophy, although winning the Community Shield is always a good way to kick start the season. It was an incredibly evenly matched game, a goal from Ince, losing in a tight penalty shoot out in the end.

The Champions League group stages were drawn and we were handed a decent group, I'll expect to be battling it out for first place with Valencia, while we should get the better of Marseille, and BATE looked doomed.

View attachment 448585
View attachment 448582
I really wanted to win this game, this trophy was much more important than the Community Shield, after the disappointment of losing to United. We actually had the better of the play, and we can consider ourselves unlucky not to win a trophy this month, Ronaldo was the match winner in the end.

View attachment 448583
View attachment 448584
Neil Taylor did leave in the end, signing for Ajax in a 12M deal, I did have my eye on some slightly better targets, but didn't have the money to sign them, so Massadio Haidara comes in to replace Taylor, for 5.5M. Which means we made a profit but at what cost, no doubt Taylor is a better player, time will tell whether Haidara can fill his boots. In other transfer news, Johnson left on loan to Everton, with the option to buy, and Blackman went out again on loan to gain more experience.

View attachment 448581
Stefan Strandberg wins player of the month, this month, with one goal, one assist, in five starts, and a solid average rating of 7.46. It's fair to say him and Manga, have been right at the heart of my defense so far this season, this guy actually won the Fans Player of the Season award, and he's started the season great.

A mixed month for the lads, obviously disappointing to miss out on two trophies, when we could quite easily be sitting here with both of them, but on a positive note, we picked up nine points from three games in the league, which puts us top. Next time we kick off our Capital One Cup campaign, see if we can continue our league form, and I can smell our first Champions League meal, but what will it taste like?

A quick note on the Marseille game, we absolutely slaughtered them, but some extremely poor finishing, meant we couldn't make the breakthrough in the end, very disappointing.

Very inconsistent performances from the players this month, Strandberg again had a good month, but his form declined slightly from that great start to the season. Tom Ince had two astounding back to back games against BATE and Leicester, scoring twice in each, so he gets this months player of the month award, but he also performed very inconsistently, he's on and off a lot this lad.

Up till the Marseille game it was a perfect month for the team, but that game put a damper on the month, like i said some extremely poor finishing from the lads, we should of won that game easily. Next time we have some massive games to play, two home league games against Arsenal and United, and a very tough away game to Valencia, in Europe.

Thirty points, ten out of ten wins, what a start to our league season! There's a big gap between us and United, it's still early days but hopefully this will be our year, we'll finally beat David Moyes to a trophy.

We were unable to defend our Capital One Cup trophy, getting knocked out by West Brom but apart from that it's been an incredible month for the team. Massive wins at home to Arsenal and United keep our perfect league record intact and an astonishing away win over Valencia, as we showed perfect counter attacking football. Next time a tough league game against Everton awaits and after a good start to life in the Champions League, we can qualify for the last 16.
